Rules for Pro Wrestling USA

crazyarbyPosted on 02/01/10 at 08:58:52

This is a rough rule outline based on Greg Gagne's Guest Booker DVD.  I changed it a little from what he said but the soul of it is there.
I think this should be cool to play with because there is an ending, but if you don't want to end you can keep going with some intresting talent.

Pro-Wrestling USA acording to Greg Gagne

Gagne, Crockett, Watts, Jarrett, Von Erich get together to challenge WWF in 1984 nationally.  In September of 84 Greg Gagne is put in charge of the book on the way to the April Pay-Per-View SuperClash I.

Just to refresh mine and everyone else's memories: Pro Wrestling USA was an alliance between the NWA (future WCW), Verne Gagne's AWA, and the Von Erich's WCCW?
crazyarbyPosted on 02/02/10 at 03:14:16

It was plan by AWA promoter Verne Gagne to take on Vince who was buying up all the territories and killing the TV deals of the ones who wouldn't sell to him.  It included the AWA and all of their affliates and the big NWA promoters.  It lasted about a year and never took off because Wrestlemania was huge and the egos of all the promoters prevented quality shows.  Finally, they all tried to take on the WWF by themselves and Vince owns them all.
The guest booker DVD is a two hour interview with Greg Gagne on how he would have booked Pro-Wrestling USA.

Someone on the boards gave the Gabe Sapolsky ECW a shot.

Raven rebooking ECW to include Hall & Nash in '97 would make for a fun TNM circuit as well.

Went back and checked out the ECW relaunch.  WOW.  No need to try that again, it was a very nice circuit.  I loved Angle instead of Orton.
I thought Raven's would be good too but his DVD is hard to follow since he didn't seem at all prepared.  Plus I never cared for Nash or Hall but thats me.
Now the Cornette Invasion redo would be quite the project.

Got a link?

Has anyone ever booked an ECW where Kurt Angle managed to show up on a night where they didn't manage to offend his sensibilities by crucifying anyone and thus he signed with them? (Or is that what we're talking about in this ECW re-book?)

I was never a big fan either. But they were very recognizable when they jumped from WWF to WCW. Diesel had a WWF Title reign and Razor had one with IC Title, including the famous ladder matches with HBK.

Is there any summary of Cornette's vision for the Invasion anywhere besides the DVD?

Thanks, I've actually gone back and forth with different versions of this circuit. Reason being I like Angle and Orton both for the role.

It is very involved, he doesn't go through the entire WCW roster or WWF roster from that time, So it would be a challenge to nail down all the talent.
What he comes up with is brilliant.  filling in all the other parts would be the fun.  His vision goes almost a year and ends in a five or six hour Wrestlemania.  I would go with a two night show myself.
I thought the Gagne one would be great for all the old school guys on the board, but Cornette is when I thought of all the great TNM7 circuits.
If Corny had the time, what he would do with TNM7.

Hey, PS

Big question that recently popped into my head....
I better start a new thread....

I liked what Cornette did but I didn't like how he ended the WCW/WWF split and moved everyone into one promotion.

You forgot in 1984 Pro Wrestling USA, Bob Backlund wrestled for them after leaving the WWF.
