Favorites in other circuits

What are your favorite matches/angles/gimmicks/etc. that you've seen in someone else's circuit?
Rick GarrardPosted on 06/20/08 at 00:30:41

Rob Bihari's Vipers storyline in TNMA v1.0 along with the dry white turkey sandwich named Liz.  :)

Pretty much any circuit that goes "old school" (and I  don't mean the Undertaker stealing the masked Spoiler's gimmick of top rope walking).

MiddleGA aka Jon had a pretty good circuit way back in the day.

And then there is the Masked Texan's universe.  His stuff kicked many serious forms of ass in a variety of ways.

And for honorable mention.... although I've never read it, I know that it was once a legendary fantasy wrestler circuit... Kirk's SMWA.

Sorry Nubbs... no mention of you... although, I do applaud your standup routinely.

I still miss Rob :-<

He was always a blast on the old Web-Chat-Channel.

As far as gimmicks go, I'd be remiss in not mentioning 'Racist' Johnny Ace from several years ago... was that CotD who did that gimmick? In any case, that was highly entertaining. And one of the few times someone was basing their circuit largely on copying and pasting the play-by-play but it actually working.

My mate Ads years back also did a circuit whereby his top tag team consisted of Bret Hart & Steve Austin as 'The Bitter Legends'. Again, very funny stuff, particularly when they'd get so bitter that Austin would stun Bret, then instantly become remorseful and carry his "corpse" off ala the ending of What's Opera Doc. He had several very good gimmicks, and I always remember the match where Matt Hardy won the IC title from one of his fantasy wrestlers as being a particularly good mark-out moment.

As far as matches go, Solomatt Grundy's scaffold match between the French Revolution and the Backyard Dudes was a thing of beauty. Actually the entire circuit is so fantastically well written, it deserves kudos in its own rights. Very underrated on these boards. His OSW circuit was memorable in a different way, with Snitskreig being one of the top five gimmicks I've seen in TNM.

Back in about 2001 there was someone on the boards who did a very good contemporary WWF fed, but I completely forget who it was. The only thing I can remember was having a special celebrity appearance by Fred Durst in the Rumble one time, which stood out as a very well booked Rumble. Besides that I don't remember anything besides it being very good. Anyone remember who this was?

I think that's everyone.

Oh, and Snabby I guess... he had a very entertaining if slightly disturbing run with Goldust. I vaguely remember almost Heidenreiching an announcer one time. Refresh my memory... I'll give him props though for having my fave circuit right now if only because his is closest to mine in style.

Rob's old lucha circuits were always fun.

I liked the concept of Masked Texan's universe, but he never got far enough into it for it to really matter much (no fault to him - it was a huge project so I don't blame him for it not getting too far).

I always really enjoyed Lee's WWF circuit from back when.

When it comes to comedy, 91's DWF is far and above my favorite.  He does such unique and innovative gimmicks with wrestlers and makes them work, which is a testament to his creativity and insanity.

And I believe it was Tommy's old WCW circuit that had Sting revealed as Daffney's father... that as a sweet angle.

My favorite is for sure Racist Johnny Ace, F bomb dropping Shane Douglas, and incoherent Ahmed Johnson. A-train was pretty funny in that bit as well. :)

Hey guys,

I don't post here too often but I've been on various TNM mailing lists and forums for over 10 years so I though I might remind some of different circuits and angles:

Eric Leamon's ECW - Just as controversial, maybe even more so, than the real thing. I remember the Dreamer-Raven feud had taken disproportoinate measures!

SMWA's tryout camps. Kurt, who was running this cult fantasy circuit, decided to hold tryout camps to selct new SMWA wrestlers. TNM list members were encouraged to send in their export files to try out for the fed. As I remember it, some 25-30 wrestlers were submitted...

Colin MacKinnon's AAA was my favorite lucha fed. It actually got me to buy lucha tapes and start following Blue Demon Jr and Cibernetico. Abismo Negro's gimmick of giving the Martinete (piledriver) to everyone was a classic.

I remember SNSM's wrestling camp. I had a couple of guys in it and one guy (Rorschach) won the thing. Altough Kurt closed the website at that point.

Lee's WWF was awesome, as well as Jesse's VCW, and Jon (MiddleGA)'s multi-fed setup.

I've also enjoy the many Great Lakes feds that Ryan has done...

Man, a bunch more... I'll remember more later..

I loved Rick's TBS Squared Circle fed. It was if he pulled the feel and excitement of the 80's wrestling world into TNM.

I also like the King of Old School's WWF. If Vince would have booked anywhere close to that WWE would be to awesome for words.

I also loved Lazy Ducks' WWF 88. When he did the Andre the Giant swerve and kept the belt. I think the very first card he had Hogan lose the title to King Kong Bundy on SNME. I was like damn way to start a circuit.

Masked Texan's Wrestling world was as epic as any I read.

Lazy Duck also had a circuit kinda like that but with a monthly recap. It felt almost like reading an old PWI magazine.

There are many more but those are the ones that stick out to me.

I forgot how awesome Racist Johnny Ace was.  How could I forget that?

And Garth's WWA circuit was really good until he decided to care more about his "real life." That ass.

Anything Tommy did involving Raven / Sting / Daffney was classic.

Been a long time since I've been here, probably the first online community I was part of, but what brought me back  and why I'm posting here is I just started rereading the SMWA, which at the time I felt was one of the best reads ever, and not just in e-Feds, just a fantastic read all around. I made a few guys for his Camp, one which he praised highly for his backstory, but ultimately none won, and it's a shame it ended when it did. I recall Josh Liller's feds being similarly done and pretty good, and there has probably a great deal of good stuff written with TNM since that I've missed.

Thanks, Rick!

I'm still around.  I do have plans for something new, that is in the works. (I know I've said this before, but it's going to happen eventually.)

I've acquired years worth of results from all the territories, and I'm going to start in 1982, and do my best to put the wrestlers in the promotions they worked in each month, and try to make it as close to "real life" as possible.

I'll start with the current champs as of 1/1/82.  Of course, the champs after that may be different.  I plan on working up to 12/31/1992.  That's kinda when my interest waned.

I was wanting to start in 1978, and I have a lot of the territory cards from then,  but, many of the territories went out of business between 78-82, so, I thought it would be easier now to focus on a later date.

Maybe one day, I can start from 78.   ;D

I'm partial to anything Rick writes since he also favors old school wrestling. Really enjoyed the Squared Circle Wrestling concept, which I tried too, but it's a lot of work. Same thing for Masked_Texan and his NWA territory results. I have no idea how he manages to keep everything in order but he does.

But everyone that posts a circuit has something I like to read mostly. Unless it's UWF or megatron asking for someone to do all the work for him.
