New circuit idea

Glum76Posted on 04/27/08 at 20:20:59

I'm having a blast with a new circuit concept, and I wanted to share it with all of you.

I was a big fan of the NWA on TBS from 86-88, and I loved the studio-based, squash intensive, promo-heavy format of the show.  Lately, I've been reading about  and watching Mid-Atlantic wrestling and Georgia championship wrestling (Kayfabe Memories and YouTube are excellent sources) from the early to mid 80s, and I decided to build a circuit around the format of those shows.

I know Rick did a circuit last year that followed this format with a roster comprised of people like Dusty and Flair and trhe Andersons, but I dislike running historical circuits.  So I basically took some WWE / TNA castoffs (like Mark Jindrak and Vampiro) and mixed in second and third-generation wrestlers who were somehow linked to the old NWA.  I also have guest stars appear regularly, mostly retired wrestlers who were part of the glory years.  All of that said, here's how I set up my circuit;

NWA Mid-Atlantic - The Next Generation

  • Studio-based TV format

Roster comprised of former TNA / WWE wrestlers, second and third generation wrestlers (Ray Gordy, Cody Rhodes, David Flair, etc.), and created wrestlers patterned after retired 80s NWA stars (example: created wrestler Troy Van Zant patterned himself after Michael Hayes).  NOTE:  When you put together the roster, you're basically "casting" real and created wrestlers in the roles formerly played by Dusty, Tommy Rich, Flair, the Andersons, etc.

Three or four squash matches per week on TV

An unbooked main event each week on TV

Wrestlers cut interviews at the interview podium either before or after their match.

The top 4 wrestlers in the promotion appear in a match or interview every week.

One house show every week, with only one unbooked match per house show.  (All the rest are booked).

The unbooked house show match is promoted / hyped on TV.

House show line-ups cannot be repeated in their entirety - at least four matches have to change from show to show.

One big house show per month, all unbooked, promoted heavily on TV.

Have one guest appearance per week from a retired NWA wrestler.

During this guest appearance, the retired wrestler cuts a promo putting over the territory, an upcoming event, or a current member of the roster.

Once a month, one of the guest stars gets involved in a mini-angle and appears as a referee, manager, judge, or wrestler on a house show.

Angle ideas are derived from angles that were run in Mid-Atlantic, Memphis, Georgia Championship Wrestling, or Mid-South during the early-to-mid 80s.

That's a great idea. Looking forward to seeing the results.

What don't you like about historical circuits by the way? Also, if you are going to use a Flair, use Reid Flair. He should be able to get over much better than David.

That's a great idea. Not only the second generation talent but maybe some wrestlers that are not known by the big 2 (WWE and TNA). What I mean is stars like current NWA World Champion, Adam Pearce, Brent Albright, Joey Ryan, The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson), Chris Escobar, etc. Other than that it's a great idea.

I agree on Adam Pearce, Brent Albright, and Joey Ryan. Haven't seen the others to give an opinion. But the other three would be a great addition to an old school type promotion.

You may have to watch video on NWA Showcase which is on the NWA Website under Multimedia. If not, their matches may be on YouTube.

That would be good if you bring in  Magnum TA, Tully Blanchard, Dusty Rhodes or Ronnie Garvin to give his opinions on their current promotion.

Does anyone else have anything to say about this topic?

Are you his spokesman now?

I think his circuit should have a brand extension. What do you, the fans, have to say about that?

Better yet.. break down into about 6-8 territories & then hold a draft to see who goes where.

But only if JimiC gets the first 30 picks and everyone else gets 5 bonus picks that he chooses.
