Running on OS X

VertigoPosted on 01/30/07 at 01:45:51

I'm looking for a way to run TNM on my Mac.

I've found a program that runs DOS, starts up TNM, and lets me get to my circuit. But when I try to run a card, it shuts itself down.

Has anyone found a way to run TNM on a Mac? Or am I the only one looking?

When I was playing around with Ubuntu it got TNM to work in DOSbox and WINE.

Give them a try, since I belive OS X and Ubuntu are built around the same kernel.

Ubuntu is based on Debian Linux; OS X is based on FreeBSD. That said, I have heard of people running DOSBox on both OS X and Linux, so it's probably doable. Please keep us informed of your progress, problems, observations, etc. - maybe your experience can help us write a FAQ for how to run TNM on Mac.  :)

So I gave DOSbox a second go with TNM had no problems running it. They have released a new version since I last tried so maybe they fixed the bug with the update. All I had to do was change the cycles so it would run fast.

It's good news :)

Did you get TNM7 or TNM6.2 to run on dosbox. When installing TNM7se, are you suppose to close the dosbox window when you get to "Finish Installation" or is it still installing on that last option? Also, what file do you run after installtion to get TNM7SE running?

I've been trying to help him through PM, but anything that comes up there that I think should be worth mentioning I'll add.

TNM is an .exe file. With that said, there is no way of running an .exe file on a Mac unless you can run Windows on a Mac. There are ways to do it, none of which I did. I ran the .exe on my PC, copied the folder containing everything to my Mac, and ran THAT from DOSbox.

So, simply, if you don't have an emulator or other product that allows you to run Windows on your Mac, all I can suggest is first running the TNM.exe file on a PC and copying the files to your Mac.

How well did that run? Slow? Crashes?

It works great. I just fire up TNM with DOSbox, speed up the Frameskip, and off I go.

What kind of Mac are you using?
