Your TNM History

I'm sure the topic has been started before but I thought it'd be interesting to see when/how people found out about TNM and even relive some of your own "history" with the program.  I remember one of my friends stumbled across it and was happy to share it with all of us at school.  This was around '98 or so I guess, not totally sure what version of TNM it was but regardless.  Myself and about four of my close friends were all big wrestling fans and had varying degrees of mark-smarkness.  Everyone had their favorite wrestlers and we could have all of our favorites face off against one another!

All of us downloaded the program and one of our friends actually bought it.  I was broke at the time, working a part time job and trying to pay car payment/insurance/gas/whatever so I would go over his house to play.  This was also when I first got into e-feds and we would create our own wrestlers, even ourselves and have fantasy feds, real feds, and even a mixture of the two.  Fun stuff overall, I wish I had history of all those feds that we had back then because there were a lot of fun matches/cards.

My friends played up until about 2001-2002 off and on while I would take long breaks and then play some more.  I never came to the forums at any of these times and finally came around 05 or so I guess.  It's funny how much TNM stands the test of time for me as I still find it to be a great simulator and a fun time all around.  Different phases of interest in wrestling have increased and decreased, feds and wrestlers I've enjoyed have come and gone and I've played TNM all along the way.

So, how about you?  When did you learn about/start playing TNM?

back in about 97,98 I was involved with a E-Fed and when the fed closed down I asked the guy what program he used tp run the fed, He said a program called TNM. I downloaded the trile version and the first time I tried it I had no idea what I was doing so i left it alone for about 2 years. When one day I was cleaning out an old computer before I gave it away and there was TNM, I went back to the web site and redownloaded the updated version and tried it again, Needless to say I had much more fun this time around and bought it about a month later

Found it on AOL in about 1995ish...the version was 6.13. Had no idea what I was doing so I just kept booking cards without any sort of continuity, booked a LOT of cards...and had a lot of fun.

When I started trying to make everything fit together...I had a lot less fun. I like running with what TNM gives me, unbooked circuits por vida!

I've always enjoyed unbooked as well, just to see what kind of crazy results TNM spits out.  I didn't book feds for a very long time and to an extent I still don't book everything like some do.

Nice avatar Rebelins.  :)  I'll have to post my history with at some point, as it is a very interesting one to say the least.

A friend told me about in 2002. He was TNM-crazy at the time, going into all sorts of details about matches he ran. At first I thought it was like a video game, where you actually watched matches instead of reading them. :P

Eventually, I downloaded it and tried it out. I don't recall doing too much with it at first, other than creating some guys for an e-fed I joined shortly afterwards. But in the past few years, I'll have nights where I just spend hours booking cards (mostly WWE-related) then I'll go around a month or so without touching it. :-

A friend introduced it to me I think it was the summer of '95. I loved it at first. I used my high school Agenda (it's like a calender to keep your assignments/due dates in order) for my 'book'. I remember a First Blood Match I had between Hercules and Earthquake - it NEVER ended.

That first time I played for months. Then I stopped. And so seems to be the pattern. I'll get TNM crazy at some point, then I'll have to back off for a little while and then something just starts pulling me back.

I first learned about TNM after joining an e-fed. This was around '97 because I was finally on-line, dial-up but so what. I some point while in that e-fed, I was allowed to run cards which meant I needed TNM so I downloaded it and sent in my money via snail mail. I had a lot of fun with it so a friend and I eventually ran our own e-fed with it. I still have my exports of my wrestlers from then but sadly don't have any of the cards. Once I was done with e-feds I still used it from time to time. It's still a good program and the plugins help a lot.

I don't remember exactly how I found it, but it was one of the early TNM 6.xx editions. I remember that I thought the database wrestler rankings system was really interesting, and I like running tournaments. But very quickly, I decided I wanted to adapt a tabletop RPG of my own design to TNM. I figured it couldn't be too hard since they are both based on "real" wrestling, and I was off. The coolest thing was that I was in contact with Oliver a lot back then. I remember asking him for features, and <poof> there was a feature. The bulk-delete comes to mind. Since I was using all original wrestlers from my game, I didn't need to many "real" ones so I deleted them all. I became an "unofficial" bug finder for the later 6.xx editions, then became an official beta tester for 7. After 7 came out, I continued to use it to sim an e-fed of sorts, then, like so many others, just fell away from it for a year or more. Then one day I either wandered to the webpage for old-times sake, or maybe got a release announcement, and there was Second Edition, out of the blue, and it totally reignited the fire in me, and I've been running with it ever since. I re-converted my e-fed back to TNM as the primary method of resolving matches (I had gone to a simple raw statistics model) and have been loving so many of the new plugins! Now if Oliver would only get us our windows-based Moves Database Wizard, I'd die a happy TNMer!

About 1998 I guess it would have been, some guy in a chat room told me about it and recommended it. Downloaded it, enjoyed it and eventually (shortly after the free trial expired), I made the purchase of the relatively new TNM7 build. My initial circuit was very crude, just doing one monthly card, rarely any angles and never booked. Consequently any angles I did run would often last several years. And without anyone noticing, I've been posting on the boards the entire time.

Again there'll be times when I reel off tons of cards in a short space of times and times like right now where I'm barely using it at all. Still, the DWF circuit that I've stuck with for so long is 6 years old now. Even if I haven't updated it in ages, that's got to be close to a current record.

I saw it in an efed when I was in High School and tried it out and loved it.  Was on the TNM Mailing lists and apart of some of the TNM-MP but Hutton and the TNMWA.

I got away from it for awhile, but now back full force.
LillaThrillaPosted on 07/28/07 at 19:56:26

I used TNM 6.2 a bit back when I ran an e-fed some time in the late 90s.

I got into TNM again a little later right before TNM7 originally came out.  I sort of stuck around on and off since then.  There's been times I've been away from all things TNM for months and months.  It's weird because I haven't watched wrestling regularly since probably before 2000.  I like wrestling, I've just been busy on the nights its on and/or didn't have cable and/or it was going through a low point.  I've caught random shows, like when Flair returned to WWF and part of the Last Nitro and the Benoit Tribute RAW.

I got banned off the TNM list for something stupid years ago that angered the mod at the time, beta tested TNM7SE, and have the longest actively running TNM fan site in TNM 3:16 (since 2000).
JeepGuyPosted on 01/29/08 at 18:40:29

I guess it was late 1999 when I first ran into TNM. I for the most part finished with e-feds and was looking for something to do. I found several wrestling simulators but this one seemed to be best suited for what I wanted to do as well as better supported.

I'll play around with whatever new version is out for awhile before putting it away. I'm usually good for a couple of circuits before packing it up.

This time might be a little different as I joined the boards and my (boring) job gives me time to post stuff as well as work on my circuit material.

1995... While looking up info on SFPWXP (SNES), a websearch came across TNM. This was TNM 6.13. I ended up buying 6.2+ and got 7 later.

Been here ever since (Though I was AWOL from 2000-2002, more or less, both in terms of TNM as well as Wrestling in general... Yes, I missed the Invasion :-P)

I even had a couple of articles on the Simplenet site... Spent time on the old web-chat. Was invited to a WWE PPV by Oliver once (couldn't make it... Wanna say it was Wrestlemania in Philly 1999 V_V)

For what it's worth, there was only one other sim (that was share ware and didn't come with wrestlers) but was really good at the time that was anywhere even close to TNM... I believe it was Pro Wrestling Promoter I've re-downloaded since but it doesn't play nice with modern computers, unlike TNM.  Simply put, simple programming continues to work while bells and whistles break with every windows upgrade.  :)  Well Done Oliver.

Haven't had an update from Oliver in awhile.

As far as other sims, I actually quite liked the *CONCEPT* of WLS... The implementation left something to be desired...

I remember a pretty simple wrestling sim I used to play on my Mac back in '97-'98. Couldn't remember what it was called for the life of me.
Rick GarrardPosted on 01/31/08 at 02:34:45

wasn't "Suplex" for the Mac was it?

I think it was the Simple Wrestling Simulator
