Brass Knuckles Matches...

Anyone know the rules for this type of match?

I remember watching one back in the World Class days, with Abdullah, and either Brody or Tony Atlas, but it didn't seem like they used actual brass knux, just taped fists?

Some of my circuits (Like World Class, Amarillo) have these "titles", but I don't really know if it's something useful to have in a circuit.

Any suggestions?

Yeah, I remember those days in World Class. I believe they were always only taped fists but you could throw punches as often as you wanted without risk of disqualification whereas a normal match, you weren't supposed to punch as often without a warning from the ref.

the Brass Knuckles Title was mainly a way of putting a title on guy that was a brawler, who by normal rules would never earn a title because of his blatent distaste for the rules. That's why guys like Abby, Brody, and Lewin usually ended up with Brass Knux titles.

It was the 80s version of the Hardcore title, before it was called "Hardcore" style of wrestling.

And to answer your question Texan, I believe it was pretty much a "no DQ" title.

Thanks, guys.

That makes a lot of sense.

I'll probably just discard the title, and throw those guys in a cage, or barbed wire match instead.    ;D

If you're doing older promotions, especially those in the South, most seemed to have the Brass Knuckles matches and quite a few of them had a title for it. As Rick said above, these were before the days of the hardcore matches.

Now, I do remember a few old matches where there was some barbed wire involved where the wrestlers had access to a rolled strand of the stuff but nothing like later hardcore matches.

okay, I think you've persuaded me to keep those titles in the loop.   ;D

at the very first NWA Clash of the Champions on WTBS, they had a 6man tag with barbed wire wrapped around the ropes.

It was actually a "Chicago Street Fight"/"Texas Barbed Wire" tag match.

Buddy Roberts used to do them for awhile when he was wearing his boxing head gear. He was hilarious to watch throwing punches because he looked so stupid.

just one of the many effects of the infamous "Freebird Hair Cream".  :)
