shoddy TNM booking

LillaThrillaPosted on 09/14/07 at 15:17:15

So I was going to book AOW #5. And I realized that I had managed to award the tag titles on #2 and have them change hands on #3 and #4.

And what makes this really bad is that AOW is my Rick's Old School Rules circuit.

I guess I should remember to book winners a little more frequently... :P

So what are some things you've done intentionally (i.e. you booked the finishes) or unintentionally (i.e. didn't book tthe winner of the match) that when you looked back you thought "WTF was I thinking by booking that way / not booking that at all?"

The problems I've had in the past are mostly due to booking based ENTIRELY on rankings... There's very little room for rivalries, except in the case of two guys tossing a title back and forth for a bit.

Generally that's happened in cases where I've gotten lazy and didn't feel like handling proper feuds :-<

shouldn't effect the way the rules work... (at least I don't think it will) as far as future cards go.

So is the AOW anywhere online?

It wasn't that it effects the rules. The problem was they are OLD SCHOOL rules and OLD SCHOOL includes not hotshotting titles like Russo on crystal meth.  :P

It's on TNM 3:16 but I haven't uploaded the 4th card - http://www.joshism.net/tnm/aow/aow.html

That's why I tend to always book when using Old School Rules. I also use jobbers in matches instead of always having the established wrestlers squaring off against each other.

I also do that too, and I even give a jobber the odd win, considering that prior to the Hogan era, even jobbers had the odd upset. It's one of the reasons guys like Iron Mike Sharpe and Barry Horowitz stayed over. I don't like using squash jobbers though. I just don't like squash matches.

Depends on the territory, really. In small territories with a lot of transient talent passing through, it wasn't too uncommon to see titles swap back and forth each week, at least during feuds.

Or maybe you'd hotshot the title to one of your midcarders for a week or two to help get him over.

And sometimes you think the new guy is the best thing since sliced bread, put a belt on him, book long-term plans around him, and he immediately uses his newfound status to go get a higher-paying job somewhere else.

When a title does change hands often, it makes long reigns that much more meaningful and memorable. Depending on the circuit, it can be good booking if the title swaps aren't too excessive.

Unless it's Memphis and your name is Jerry Lawler where you are the 6,271 (or thereabouts) time World Champion of Memphis.  ;)

I'm running a circuit based on the Matt Harms' TNA rules and I had Nigel McGuinness give notice. So I decided to job him out for his last 2 matches. The first was a singles match & the last was going to be a tag team match against a team that needed a little help being put over. The single match got a good rating & got his opponent to resign his contract. So, I figured he should be able to help out the tag team.
I booked the tag match with Nigel taking the fall at about the 13 minute mark, and earlier in the card he interfered against the guy that beat him the show prior. But, when it came time for the tag match, he no showed. So I picked another guy to take his place (he wasn't even available to force him into the match) & then TNM totally ignored my booking the finish since Nigel was no longer in the match. The team I wanted to go over actually lost at around the 19 minute mark.

I wouldn't call it shoddy on TNM's part, but, it was an interesting twist.

I have been running a WWE circuit, in which Kane won the World Heavyweight Title from Rey Mysterio at Summerslam 06, and has yet to lose the belt ... as a rule I don't usually book title matches, and I have pretty much stuck to that in this case ... in the same time that Kane as been World Champion, the WWE title has been passed around quite a bit
