Abridged TNM Questionaire (7 ?'s)

ZephyroPosted on 09/21/07 at 22:11:19

I read the questionaire posted for september and I like a few of you seemed to think it was a bit too long.So I thought I would ask some questions of my own, and perhaps get some creative juices flowing around on this board.

1)How did you come up with circuit name? (obv if you use the standard WWF/E,ECW etc no need to answer)

2)What style is your promotion - Sports Entertainment, Hybrid,Japanese,Lucha,Independent, old school etc.

3)How Do you run your promotion -(Booked/Unbooked/ruleset)

4)How do you decide who to hire (initially or when bringing in new talent)?

5)Title matches - Booked or Unbooked

6)How far in advance do you plan?

7)Any advice/tips for other people out there for running a circuit?

1)How did you come up with circuit name? (obv if you use the standard WWF/E,ECW etc no need to answer)

Well, it (DWF) is really just a random acronym that doesn't stand for anything, but it does follow on from an old e-fed I was in. See, several years back after I'd gotten quite good at the e-fed malarky, me and a friend of mine decided to try and find a fed to roleplay in - only we were looking for the worst fed possible. After he joked about a stupid name like 'Deadly Wrestling Federation' we actually found this. It was booked using the Zeus simulator, the background to the main page was out of Doom and the standard of competition was poor to say the least. Anyway, we did some sort of South Park gimmick where we deliberately put out bad stuff and proceeded to break every rule in the book (attacking other people in our RP's, responding to other peoples RP's where we attack them and steal their title belts and make up like the president of the fed came out and awarded us the belts, attacking people in our RP's and breaking their legs and saying that they have to be counted as being injured for six months as part of the storyline - the usual stuff). Twas quite amusing.

2)What style is your promotion - Sports Entertainment, Hybrid,Japanese,Lucha,Independent, old school etc.

Yeah, sports enterainment frankly. Only designed to entertain me.

3)How Do you run your promotion -(Booked/Unbooked/ruleset)

Oh God - booked thankyou.

4)How do you decide who to hire (initially or when bringing in new talent)?

Before I stuck with the DWF for so long, there were a set few guys I always hired when starting off - Jericho, Benoit, Douglas, the Hardys, Shawn Michaels usually got in, since I felt comfortable booking stuff with them in. I think last time out if I remember right I made a list of a load of guys I'd consider and picked off a bunch at random.

As for hiring later on, that's based on whenever I come up with an idea for someone, even if it's really stupid and only going to be halfway decent for a months worth of shows.

5)Title matches - Booked or Unbooked

Booked again.

6)How far in advance do you plan?

My world title picture (if it ever gets moving again) was pretty much a year in advance. A certain incident involving this wrestler who did something that happened to make the news recently meant I decided to quietly drop him and now I have to find someone else to fill his slot. Other stuff is usually a month upwards.

7)Any advice/tips for other people out there for running a circuit?

Book primarily for yourself, not for what you think other people will want to read for the most part otherwise you'll lose interest. This goes for hiring guys too - none of this "hey fans, who do you want me to hire next" stuff. And more Sean Mooney.

1)How did you come up with circuit name? (obv if you use the standard WWF/E,ECW etc no need to answer)

It depends on the circuit but usually I'll think of if it's going to be more territory based, nationwide, or global and come up with a name that fits that.  Also I've gone with other names I thought would sound cool.

2)What style is your promotion - Sports Entertainment, Hybrid,Japanese,Lucha,Independent, old school etc.

Currently I'm not running any feds although I put together some every now and again, run several shows then stop doing it.  I've opened I'd say atleast 100-200 circuits in my TNM usage so I have gone all over the place with style.  Generally I'll go with a hybrid style although I really enjoyed a lucha fed I did once.

3)How Do you run your promotion -(Booked/Unbooked/ruleset)

Usually I'll go with a mixture.  A lot of times I'll think of a main event feud/angle, maybe a mid-card angle and then let a lot of the matches go unbooked.  Other times I've gone with fully booked circuits.  It really just depends on the fed.

4)How do you decide who to hire (initially or when bringing in new talent)?

Honestly I try to look at it realistically.  I know that's a little weird when the whole point of the game is to defy reality but if I'm booking an indy fed I will not hire any big time wrestlers.  I'll stretch for curtain-jerkers or mid-carders for WWE/TNA but usually it's indy guys.  If I do however go global I'll pick out wrestlers that I like.  I hardly ever mix older wrestlers with new wrestlers as I'll usually just do a period style fed if I want to use old wrestlers.

5)Title matches - Booked or Unbooked

Booked, although when I ran PINNACLE in AoWE I let most of the stuff go unbooked so Deuce Shade was my champion.  Not good times.

6)How far in advance do you plan?

I'm not very anal about planning really.  It can definitely hurt a product if you're posting it on the boards but offline I'll just do whatever.  Sometimes I will plan in advance and other times I won't.  I'm very loose with the style.

7)Any advice/tips for other people out there for running a circuit?

Have fun and do whatever you'd like to do.  Anything that makes it enjoyable for you is what it's all about.

For the last real public circuit I had which technically is still just on hiatus until GCW gets rolling again.

1)How did you come up with circuit name? (obv if you use the standard WWF/E,ECW etc no need to answer)

GLWF.  "Great Lakes Wrestling Federation."  I picked it because it's a farm fed for GCW/Indy fed.  Regional naming is quite common practice and I decided to base it out of Kalamazoo and they operate within the Great Lakes region.  Works on all fronts.

2)What style is your promotion - Sports Entertainment, Hybrid,Japanese,Lucha,Independent, old school etc.

Indy style I guess.  Very wrestling centric.

3)How Do you run your promotion -(Booked/Unbooked/ruleset)

Booked.  Painstakingly booked

4)How do you decide who to hire (initially or when bringing in new talent)?

I get an idea of someone I'd like to bring in and consult with Ryan about it or Ryan will tell me to bring in someone after he hires them to a developmental deal

5)Title matches - Booked or Unbooked

Booked, booked, booked, booked.

6)How far in advance do you plan?

Usually I try to outline the upcoming month or two.  I try not to cement anything too much too far in advance incase someone gets called up to GCW.

7)Any advice/tips for other people out there for running a circuit?

Just do it for yourself.  Comments are nice (believe me), but if you aren't having fun anyway, whats the point.

1)How did you come up with circuit name? (obv if you use the standard WWF/E,ECW etc no need to answer)

1. Well I run 5 circuits (2 real wrestler and 3 fantasy wrestler) 1. BXW-Beyond X-Treme Wrestling (in my fifth incarnation of this circuit-two incarnations have been real wrestlers, while the other three <including this one> have been fantasy) 2. PWE (Pro Wrestling Elite) - an ROH inspired circuit 3. UWE (Universal Wrestling Entertainment) - my version of WWE minus the brand extension 4. RMWF (Rocky Mountain Wrestling Federation) - fantasy wrestler indy fed, and 5. World Wrestling XTreme (fantasy circuit which is BXW's main rival)

2)What style is your promotion - Sports Entertainment, Hybrid,Japanese,Lucha,Independent, old school etc.

Depends on which circuit but for my real ones, UWE is more like WWE with better storylines and yes as much as I strongly dislike John Cena, I do use him. PWE is more like a hybrid sort of like ROH, but more globally known so is a direct competitor of PWE. Most if not all my fantasy circuits tend to be hybrid. BXW did start off as a garbage wrestling fed, but has moved more closer to an ECW(original)/ROH blend

3)How Do you run your promotion -(Booked/Unbooked/ruleset)

Booked, except for when I'm lazy, then I just push "c" for continue until I get the results I want. Plugin matches cannot be booked, so I only use them when I'm not sure who I want to win.

4)How do you decide who to hire (initially or when bringing in new talent)?

It Depends on the size and style of my circuit. I usually go into e-mail mode and do my hiring there, so nobody can turn me down (but only for the global based feds), then I go back into regular mode.

5)Title matches - Booked or Unbooked

Booked

6)How far in advance do you plan?

Depends on the circuit, some I plan up to a year in advance, while others I just book on the fly.

7)Any advice/tips for other people out there for running a circuit?

Just have fun with them, that's all that matters.

1)How did you come up with circuit name? (obv if you use the standard WWF/E,ECW etc no need to answer)
Granted my most recent incarnation is "NWA:Squared Circle Wrestling".  It originally started out as "SCW" when I was in development on it, then I was going to go with Southern Championship Wrestling, but ended up going with Squared Circle Wrestling because of the old school feel to the name.  Other names I've used, are pretty much brainstorming sessions or whatever pops into mind when creating a new circuit.... Except for the RUFF circuit... which really could have meant a number of things, but never really was revealed to mean anything.

2)What style is your promotion - Sports Entertainment, Hybrid,Japanese,Lucha,Independent, old school etc.
Mostly old school, however, and I know this will shock some of you, I have done the Sports Entertainment style.... you know how hard it is to get TNM to do consistent 5 minute or less matches and get good ratings?  Thought so.

3)How Do you run your promotion -(Booked/Unbooked/ruleset)
NWA:SCW is booked, except for certain tryout matches.  Other circuits are a hybrid of booked/unbooked.  Most of my circuits start out as the foundation for rules sets.  Can't wait to figure out how to do one for the NWA:SCW circuit.

4)How do you decide who to hire (initially or when bringing in new talent)?
Brad Armstrong...  j/k (he seems to almost always pop up in my circuits though).  Usually I try to find guys that fit best into the roles that I have planned for the circuit.  You should always have at least 1 main event heel and 1 main event face, at least 2 good tag teams, and at least 1 or 2 guys that are jobbers that have potential to win in the future.

5)Title matches - Booked or Unbooked
NWA:SCW is booked... for some of my past circuits there has been great debate as to whether I booked or ran unbooked... and much like the Great Tootsie Pop debate with the owl ... the world may never know.

6)How far in advance do you plan?
With NWA:SCW I am almost 4 weeks ahead (this is with running 8 cards per week), which is the most advanced prebooking I've ever done.  With some circuits, I have booked as liitle as no cards in advance up to 4 to 6 cards ahead.  I usually like to book a PPV lineup, then backfill with how to get there, in much the old WWF style of booking.

7)Any advice/tips for other people out there for running a circuit?
Book what you would want to see.  Chances are if you like it, and believe in what you book, then you will enjoy the end result, even if there are some long, drawn out angles.  Good short survey.

I've used up so many names in the countless circuits I've started up and abandoned... "HCW" generally gets used a lot when I'm uninventive (Hyde (my last name) Championship Wrestling).  Right now I'm running DGW: Damn Good Wrestling.

2)What style is your promotion - Sports Entertainment, Hybrid,Japanese,Lucha,Independent, old school etc.
Never got the hang of Lucha or Puro. I like Independent or Old School the best.

3)How Do you run your promotion -(Booked/Unbooked/ruleset)
95% unbooked

4)How do you decide who to hire (initially or when bringing in new talent)?
Lately I'll set the circuit to All wrestlers available, then run a card with a 25 man battle royal with all 25 being Mystery wrestler selections. Then I delete the first card and go from there (hopefully who I want renews their contract). Then wrestlers are usually brought it by the Mystery wrestler option.

5)Title matches - Booked or Unbooked
95% unbooked

6)How far in advance do you plan?
With unbooked you usually can't book too far... Most of the time I just book to the next PPV (4 cards out, tops).

7)Any advice/tips for other people out there for running a circuit?
Look at what I do, then do the opposite.

1)How did you come up with circuit name? (obv if you use the standard WWF/E,ECW etc no need to answer)

I have currently a World Wrestling Alliance (old efed i used to be in).  North-East Championship Wrestling (I got the name back in like the boom TNM7 list days when I was in a MP league and was an Indy).  I also have a Raw, Smackdown and WWE ECW leagues.

2)What style is your promotion - Sports Entertainment, Hybrid,Japanese,Lucha,Independent, old school etc.

Sports Entertainment for my main leagues (WWE leagues) and independt for NECW.

I have done a lucha but never a Japaense one.  I have done Old School

3)How Do you run your promotion -(Booked/Unbooked/ruleset)

75% Booked in WWE, NECW
(Only matches not booked are non title matches on House Shows).  WWE is completely 100% booked.

4)How do you decide who to hire (initially or when bringing in new talent)?

Well WWE I used current rosters.
WWA just guys i liked / wanted to use
NECW - I went with more Oldschool guys like Orndorrf, Hogan and added some new guys like Deuce and Domino as well as some ROH guys.

5)Title matches - Booked or Unbooked

Booked mainly

6)How far in advance do you plan?

World Title, pretty far, 6-8 months I would say.  Same with main lyrics.
In my AWA short lived fed I had the World Title picture mapped for a year.

7)Any advice/tips for other people out there for running a circuit?

Have fun and try new things.
