Ratings Spreadsheet...

Rick GarrardPosted on 07/15/07 at 02:02:09

Okay... You'd never guess what I found today... the notes from my old Big Time Wrestling ratings spreadsheet. I have taken the last couple of hours to recreate the sheet on Google's spreadsheet.

(original link removed as you couldn't download the spread to use it)

And to the Excel version of the same spread:

While it's not loaded with the few easter eggs that I put in the original version, it is very functional.

So now that this has been up for a about 14 hours, anyone have any thoughts on what else needs to be added to it, or improvements they would like to see?

I don't really understand what the spreadsheet is for. Is it for TV ratings? Also, do you need Excel or could I use OpenOffice's version of Excel to use it?

should work in any spreadsheet program.

Basically, you enter the wrestler name on the left, then in the blue boxes starting with the most recent result in "match 10 column, you enter the outcome of the match using the letter key at the bottom of the sheet.

I came up with this as an alternate rankings system to that which is built into TNM and also as a better "hot/not" indicator than that within TNM.

So do you reset these after every 10 matches? The spreadsheet works really good, especially on OpenOffice Excel (which is free, so it's even better).

I used google's free spreadsheet to create it (first time using their spread and it was very simple to use).  I'll probably be posting "read only" versions of the spread for my NWA circuit going forward, so people can see how the spread is used.  As for clearing it, I just always copy (not cut as it tends to screw up formulas) and paste old results until they fall out of the "last 10 scheduled matches".  If someone works twice (or more on a card), then I move their old results left that number of times to take into consideration their extra work, so that each match they have hits this spread.

I may expand this further to take into consideration 32 matches worth of work (that's 1 show a day with twice on saturday for 4 week period; i.e. 8 shows a week).  If I were to do this, it would probably even better reflect the hot/not column as well as trending data for last number of matches, which can prove helpful in deciding who should get the push due to excessive jobbing.

Whatever you can do perfect the rating system as best you can would be helpful. Just in case Oliver ever decides to release a new build of TNM in Windows.

this thing is pretty cool! Just tried it out with one of my circuits. Gonna do it with all- hey, question, can I insert rows without screwing things up, or am I limited to the number of slots that are there? Thanks!
Rick GarrardPosted on 07/18/07 at 02:13:18

triad, if you do insert rows, just make sure to copy the formulas for columns "a" through "z" so that each row has the same row dependent formulas for it. Basically I made it so you could insert an unlimited number of rows as long as you copy all the formulas down.

Also an FYI, on my copy for my NWA, I made a second page in the same spread for tag teams so I can keep my tag teams seperate from my singles wrestlers in the rankings.

As it stands right now, this is working rather well for my NWA circuit, I've still got a couple of tweaks I want to add to it, but it's really working as well as the old version I had... and this one only took 2 hours to make... the old one took 2 days and a LOT of thought!

Also note that if you know how to properly use the sort functions of the spread program you are using (without screwing up formulas) then you can sort the results based on whichever column you want to use, which can be VERY helpful!

Anything else you would like to see added to this?
