JustinPosted on 11/20/06 at 03:29:26

Too many of your wrestlers aren't from the era (Sting, Road Warriors, etc). Wasn't that a complaint you had about someone else's NWA project?
megatron_85Posted on 11/20/06 at 03:35:53

i'm not trying recreate the NWA from that era
i'm just trying to simulate it!
HugeRockStar760Posted on 11/20/06 at 03:39:49

The Road Warriors were only a few years from their debut. I think they made their debut in Georgia Championship Wrestling in 1983.
Rick GarrardPosted on 11/20/06 at 03:46:25

you are missing Dick the Bruiser and Wilbur Snyder's Indiana/Northern Illinois/Western Ohio territory.
megatron_85Posted on 11/20/06 at 03:51:11

thanks i forgot
CarlzillaPosted on 11/20/06 at 11:00:36

Tenzan didn't start wrestling until 1991.

The Great Muta and Keiji Muto are the same person, and he didn't start wrestling until 1984...which is the same year that Masahiro Chono...they even fought each other in their first match.

Jushin Liger...1989...a freakin' decade later.

Koji Kanemoto...1990.

I don't even want to touch on Jay Briscoe...he's younger than I am and I wasn't even born until 1982. Pre-conception wrestling...awesome idea pal!

I don't see how you can "simulate" the NWA in 1979 if you ignore facts such as the debut year of wrestlers. I mean what's the point of even having a time frame if it really means nothing? Couldn't this just as easily be an universe loosely based on the NWA? It certainly can't be based in 1979 as some of these guys where way to young to be wrestling then...Tenzan would have been 8 years old, I don't think anyone wants to see an 8 year old wrestle.

I think you're going to have a hard time finding people who are interested in this...
megatron_85Posted on 11/20/06 at 12:46:03

allright, carlzilla, tell me which wrestlers are not from 1979?
91Posted on 11/20/06 at 19:04:56

1979? Chris Benoit? Scott Steiner? Ultimate Warrior? The HARRIS BROTHERS? Oh God, I feel my migraine coming back.

General Adnan and Billy White Wolf are the same person too. You've also got Michael Wallstreet and Mike Rotundo, Dan Spivey and Waylon Mercy, Jose Estrada was also one of the Conquistadors. My favourite is probably having Hercules and then a mere two lines down Hercules Hernandez.

On the flip side of things, Johnny Valentine was loooong retired by 1979 and Moondog Mayne was DEAD by then.

Seriously, Carlzilla may as well list the guys who WERE wrestling in 1979 and save himself some time. If you're just looking to simulate an NWA style setting without restricting yourself to whom you use and the start date is merely to measure time frames, why not just use everybody that TNM has at its disposal from Stanislaus Zbyszko to Zach Gowen?

It's not my job to do all your work for you. If you cared about this project you'd do your own legwork.
megatron_85Posted on 11/21/06 at 02:03:07

fine, i'll remove the time-frame.
HugeRockStar760Posted on 11/21/06 at 05:37:59

If you're going to attempt booking a NWA territory circuit, it would be wise to build your database with workers from that era. If you want to run one specific territory, just research the roster for the specific year and import those wrestlers. Then just go from there. Obsessedwithwrestling is a good source to see who actually is from that era. Most of the old school wrestlers are obvious to me, but like I said, the others I just researched on various wrestling websites.

Kayfabe Memories is another good source.

Also, if you really want to run the NWA, I'd suggest using wrestlers and promotions from the 80s. Otherwise, unless you're Masked_Texan, it can be too daunting and you won't portray some wrestlers correctly because you have no idea who they are to begin with.

Heh, ain't that the truth.  ;D   Obsessed with Wrestling, Kayfabe Memories,  SLAM! Wrestling, wrestling-titles, and Wrestling Classics have been good sources of material for wrestlers in the late 70's - early 80's.  Also, some of the territorial websites, like Mid-Atlantic Gateway, Georgia Wrestling, Florida, etc, have a ton of articles and info on guys.

Megatron, take a look at some of the guys you already have from that era.  Look at their movesets.   You can create many of the wrestlers just by using common moves that Flair, Race, Lawler, Brisco, McDaniel, etc, use, to come up with a template of moves to give new guys.

It may not be 100% accurate, but it's accurate enough for the time frame you're wanting to work in.

Of course, it's up to you on how you want to run it.   I still use guys who started later than 78, because I like to take the best of an era (say 78-92), and start them from the beginning, to match them up with the veterans they may not have had a chance to wrestle against.

Greg Wojokowski
He wrestled as The Great Wojo, was managed by and often tagged with Dr. Jerry Grarham Jr in Dick the Bruiser's territory and was the WWA World Heavyweight Champion.  Ator around the same time, off and on, Graham Jr and Bulldog Don Kent held the WWA World Tag Team Titles.  The best angle they ran with him was a fan challenge segment that ran for almost a year, until Man Mountain Taylor took him on his challenge for about 2 straight months at the TV tapings  that would immediately cause Graham Jr to get Wojo out of the ring, as Graham would cite various reasons why Wojo couldn't face the big man in overalls.  This angle was done shortly after the Hillbilly Jim helping Hogan out in the WWF angle.
