(off topic)  RIP The Crocodile Hunter (crikey)

Rick GarrardPosted on 09/04/06 at 09:21:16

Apparently Steve Irwin was killed by a stingray while diving today according to several reports out of Australia.

Sucks that he's dead, but I can't say I'm at all surprised.  You mess around with those animals for too long, you're bound to eat it some time.

RIP, never the less.

That's the thing - when someone at work told me he'd died, I wasn't extremely surprised considering his line of work but when they told me it was a stingray that killed him... that did take me aback somewhat. They say shark attacks on people are rare, fatal stingray attacks on people occur about as often as people dying due to being hit by meteors.

By the way, Munshun, it wasn't the venom that killed him apparently but the actual stab wound itself.

And RIP to him. Tis' a shame.

I loved that FedEx ad... now, I'm sure, they will never air that thing again because it would be "in poor taste"- I can only say, I think if he was gonna' go out, that would be the way he'd have wanted it...

I have to agree with Ryan.  Sad, but unsurprising and indeed he seemed like one of those people that if he had to go he'd rather go doing something he loved.

By the way, Munshun, it wasn't the venom that killed him apparently but the actual stab wound itself.
Yes, I read the cause of death as being that the stringray's barb went through his chest.

i was just quoting the ad. I don't think sting rays even HAVE venom.

Oh, didn't know about the Ad. I'm guessing that's an American one. And yes, they do have a bit of venom.
