Training Ground Circuit Concept

Glum76Posted on 07/15/06 at 20:04:18

I often go months without using TNM, but when I start back up again, I get addicted.  Usually, I pick it back up when I have a new concept for a circuit that adds a freshness to the sim.

The one that most recently sucked me back into TNM is a simple training ground circuit concept that I came up with after I got sick of running a puro-style circuit with created wrestlers.

The idea is to take two wrestlers (either created or real) who have a mentor / protege relationship, and make them your head trainers.  One should be a legend who's no longer in his prime but definitely still competent, and the other should be an up-and-coming star who may be on the verge of surpassing his mentor. Ideally, the two have never faced each other.

Each "trainer" should have a crew of up to 9 created wrestlers, and each side should have a name.  (For simplicity purposes, I called the legend's class "The White Army" and the cocky protege's class "The Black Army).  All matches in the training ground circuit should pit members of one class against the other.  At the end of each show, the trainers come out and award an MVP medallion to a member of their class.  Each medallion winner gets to cut a promo and issue a challenge.  The trainers try to come to an agreement on which matches to book for the next show.  Strict records should be kept on medallions awarded and class win-loss records.  In my current circuit, The White Army has a slight advantage (23-20) after the first forty three matches.

All matches are unbooked, and medallion winners get an attribute boost.  In my circuit, I give a 1 point attribute boost the first time a wrestler earns a medallion, two points for the second, three for the third, etc.

The obvious goal of this circuit is to build to a show pitting the trainers against one another, and their top students against each other.   A star will inevitably emerge on each side, and will join their trainer the following season as a "lieutenant" / tag partner to handle a mixed group of rookies and sophomores.  Eventually, the lieutenants will take over the classes.

The reason I love this circuit is because it got me back into systematic wrestler creation, where I tried to balance out strengths, weaknesses, and move selection for the members of each class, giving each a unique style and an equal chance of succeeding.  It also has a built-in storyline, and the cards are really easy to run / manage.   Every match has meaning because of the overall rivalry between the two squads, and mini-rivalries can develop pretty easily.   It's also fun to watch certain wrestlers turn into "stars" by winning matches and increasing attributes.

What do you guys think?   Does anyone want to try this out?  Have you done something similar?

That sounds like a perfect idea.  I've run something *similar* to this in my head before but never got around to actually doing it.

I hope someone who runs a fed here would consider giving this a shot.  I'm tired of reading shows consisting of real wrestlers.  I want REAL creativity, people!   >:(

I must say, that is VERY in depth, but also very cool. Sounds kind of like Ultimate Fighter on TNM

You're in the minority then.  Writing fantasy characters is hard because you have to work a lot harder to get people to care, and not everyone has the time available to give fantasy wrestlers the proper build they need to get over.

That's rather pretentious to say, don't you think?

I wrote up rules for a TNM Dojo for my old Puro fed a long time ago. I'm glad to see someone with similar ideas, and yours are even in depth where as mine where mostly just some notes and guidelines.

I hope this works out for you.
