A curiosity...

djmasterscooterPosted on 05/30/06 at 08:43:31

I'm just wondering a few things...

1.  How many of you use paper & pen, word, or some method of note taking in conjunction with TNM?

2.  Have you created any sort of system or something of that nature for you to use with your circuits?  (I.e. something of your own creation to tally an actual television rating)

I'm just curious, sitting here at 2:30 in the morning.  I myself have a huge binder to keep track of everything with my new NWA Territory style circuit (which could be coming to boards soon...watch out Masked_Texan), and to go along with it, I've created my own little system for tallying show ratings and total attendance (I pick the arena from worldstadiums.com), and injuries (all these things could come to the boards if people show interest)

well...this should keep some of us occupied

I personally have an Excel file I keep a lot of my stuff organized in, like heat, push, show schedule, title history, etc. But I keep storyline stuff organized in a Word file. It's nothing huge, but it is at least a general outline of storyline's for the year and stuff.

Any time I have ever done something in TNM, it has always been with a pen and paper. Generally, all I write down is the proposed line-ups and sometimes certain fueds.

Troy Perry's (Socko's) Finance Spreadsheet is an excellent sheet that allows you to simulate financial and TV aspects of your promotion.

Oooo, now theres an idea.  Out of curiosity, MattEus, what exactly do you write up when you put down a year of storylines?  I mean, like, do you put up who you major draw will be, your champs, fueds, said fueds progressions, etc?  I think, if someone were to make a sheet like this (one that allowed someone to book a years worth of storylines in advance), it would greatly increase the amount of successful circuits people run.  I know, personally, I am awful at getting a circuit to last very long- simply because I have no idea where I am going with it.  But, if someone were to write out a sheet that someone else could fill out (which was a year or so worth of storyline), then people would be able to keep circuits up and running for a long time.

This could become a new sort of ruleset, except it would always be different things happening for different peoples circuits!  Damn, I think would work pretty well.

Honestly, I'm hoping that you have some sort of template that you use already, Matteus, and would be willing to share it with us  ;D.

Any thoughts?  Sound like a decent idea, or no?

Rick GarrardPosted on 05/31/06 at 00:53:03

Going back about 7 1/2 years now, I created a spreadsheet in the format of a booking sheet for tnm which is still available here...

http://members.aol.com/rgarrard/tnmbook.html

I have used this format in numerous binders for various circuits I have done. I have now since moved to just writing on paper since I can get two cards per ruled lined page.

As for TV ratings, I just tend to go with readership response. :)
Psymin1Posted on 05/31/06 at 01:33:00

I actually remember these from a long time ago.  These are a great start.  I will definitely start using some of these for my next circuit.  Thanks a lot Rick, it's appreciated.

Oh, as for the topic.  I find myself using the Circuits Notes notepad function for all my circuits.  I find it the easiest.  But, I have also used Excel for a Title Histories page, which worked quite well.

Cool deal djmasterscooter!    8)

I guess I better start putting some matches together and run some cards.   ;D

Can't wait to see your work.  Good luck!!!
The PhantomPosted on 05/31/06 at 04:10:23

When I used to run an e-fed, I would just have the webpage for reference. I pretty much know how I want things to play out nowadays but I do use pen and paper every now and then. I do my cards backwards though so that kinda helps (example is having my title matches first then everything else).
MatteusPosted on 05/31/06 at 16:12:50

Honestly, my thing isn't terribly complex BrandEn, the Word file if basically something where I have every wrestler's name and under it the months of the year. Next to the months I basically just briefly outline what I want to happen to that character for that month and try to make it progress to where I want it to be. It helps that I work backwards and my major show (Showdown) is in December, so I can work backwards from where I want to end the year, basically.

The Excel file is essentially stats: push, heat, schedule, title count and history, wrestler TNM stats... that's about it. The more detailed stuff I keep in the aforementioned basic Word document. I like Rick's spreadsheet though, I may take a closer look at those ;)
Psymin1Posted on 06/01/06 at 02:11:31

Yeah, I really liked those spreadsheets.  I edited them a bit to need my needs, and I printed out a bunch of copies to use for my new fed (which may nor not be posted in the near future).

MattEus: That's still a good idea.  I think I am going to have yank that from ya and use that for the aformentioned fed.  Hopefully it will be able to take off and last quite a while.  That would be nice...for a change.

If you would like a formula for TV Ratings & PPV Buyrates, this is what I do.

TV Ratings:
Add total number of *'s
Multiply by 2
Divide by number of matches on card

PPV Buyrates:
Add total number of *'s
Divide by 2
Divide by number of matches on card

For Example:
Jeff Hardy beat Matt Hardy
Rating: 1/2*

Shelton Benjamin beat Charlie Haas
Rating: **

Dudley Boys beat The Gangstas
Rating: 1/4*

America's Most Wanted beat Diamonds in the Rough
Rating: * 1/4

Austin Aries beat Matt Bentley
Rating: *** 3/4

Ric Flair beat Masahiro Chono
Rating: ***

If this was a TV Rating, following the formula the result would be a 3.58 rating, and if it were a PPV Buyrate, the result would be .90

This formula usually puts out realistic rating results unless your card is full of negative ratings.
MatteusPosted on 06/01/06 at 18:25:48

That's actually a nice formula, and it works in some instances. I did just try that for my last UW card, however, and apparently pulled a 6.58 TV rating ;)
ZedjaPosted on 06/08/06 at 10:08:48

I keep track of all my circuits through Excel and keep copies of all the cards (results/logs) in txt documents.
Snabbit888Posted on 06/10/06 at 20:29:40

I use a series of text or WordPad documents to keep track of my stuff.  I'll do it similarly to this:

1/1/01: Explosion - Allstate Arena - Chicago, IL
=================================
1) Interview
2) Interview

World Title - A (c) vs. B

I'll do this as far ahead as I have things planned, and when I get to that date, I figure out all the segments I want for the show and then order them.

I book way ahead when I can. My main event scene is for all intents and purposes booked throguh the end of 2006 (I am in September of '05 right now) and I have a tentative main event for Super Cade IV (I just did Super Cade II not that long ago).

I also have a file for my title histories, injuries, and the like.
