Help With Windows 7

wicked_rexPosted on 11/01/09 at 23:40:57

Hey guys,

I just had Windows 7 installed on my laptop (by the people at Best Buy), and just tried to download the newest version of TNM. It downloads all the way, but when I try to open it, I get an error message and it automatically closes itself before I can do anything to/with it.

Does anyone know what to do to help? THANKS!

What version is it? (32 bit or 64 bit) TNM won't work on a 64 bit machine unless you use VirtualBox and install XP 32 bit on it.
wicked_rexPosted on 11/02/09 at 03:51:21

It has both. Where can I tell which one was installed?

Edit: OK, I just checked. It says it's running a 32-bit system. But, when I downloaded it, it said v.5 was compatible with XP/Vista... it didn't say anything about Windows 7.

Windows Vista is Windows 6.0

Windows 7 is Windows 6.1

(Kinda like Win2000 being 5.0 and XP being 5.1)

So, it should work fine.

Now, the real question is: WHAT error are you getting?

Open a command prompt, cd\  over to your TNM directory, and run TNM. This way you should be able to read the error message.

Sorry, I'm really stupid when it comes to the technical aspect of computers. How do I run a command prompt?

update: I have the file loaded onto my C: drive, which it wasn't before. But, now there's no option for me to actually run the program from it. *sighs* this is a pain in the ass!

update #2: Found the .BAT file in the folder. However, it opens/closes so quickly I can't read the message. And, I have no idea how to run it through Command Prompt. :)

OK. After waiting a little while, I tried to get TNM started again (to no success).

This is the error code I could get from the program in the .5 seconds it was open: Error 75 at pgm-ctr: 215539

I don't know what that means, or what it does. :)

Command Prompt:

Start Button -> Type cmd at the bottom, and hit enter.

You'll get the old DOS-style command prompt.

then type cd\<wherever TNM is> (I'm guessing it's c:\tnm7 or c:\tnm7se)

Then type tnm

Yeah, I've tried to do all that over the past few days, but nothing seems to be working. I've tried re-downloading it and trying that all over again = nothing.I'm still waiting to get an email back from Oliver, who I asked about the issue.

I have to say, not being able to write since I got the new laptop has been incredibly horrible! I seriously envy ever single one of you!

I just got a new Dell Laptop Inspiron 17 with Windows 7 64 Bit on it. I see from a previous post you can't use 64 bit without virtual box and xp 32 bit... Could someone point me in the right direction of how to do that? Any info would be great. Thanks!

After a few months, I started trying to get this to work again.

I tried what you had suggested, and got "The system cannot find the path specified" in return.

I have no idea what's going on here. I've tried DosBox, too, and it's not working. It really sucks to know that there are people out there using it with Win7... and I'm not one of them! :)

You have to type cd\<where you installed TNM>

That all depends on, well, WHERE you installed TNM ;->

If you just unzipped it to a folder, then you need to cd\<wherever that folder is>

If you put it in C:\TNM, you need to type cd\TNM

If you put it in a folder called TNM on your desktop, you need to type cd\users\<your user name>\desktop\tnm

etc etc

Alright, I tried that, and wrote down the very long file address... and this is what it gave me.

Error 75 at pgm-ctr: 215539

I haven't used TNM in a while, but decided to get back in it. But now I can't because TNM doesn't work on Windows 7. I installed DOSBox and VirtualBox, but can't figure out how to use either one. Can someone help me? My mind wasn't into TNM, but now when I have my creative juices flowing, I can't. Please help me. Thanks.
