Unsuspected TNM stars

Snabbit888Posted on 08/31/05 at 08:27:00

In running circuits, who are some unexpected wrestlers who broke through and became major players in your circuits? (please note whether this was a booked or unbooked circuit).

For me, I'd say my biggest unsuspected star was Gran Hamada in the old GLW circuits.  I ran this circuit at a time, mind you, when I knew of a lot of wrestlers but didn't really know anything about them other than name, size, and face/heel orientation.  Hamada was my frist World champion and held the title for 10 months.  He started out as a strong babyface, ended up being a cocky heel.  I actually did the heel turn in the middle of his second World Title reign, which I thought was neat.

In current GCW, I'd say it's a tie between Steve Bradley and of course, Eric Angle.  In real life, both are little more in the wrestling world than former developmental guys.  I'm glad I've been able to give them some personality, some depth, and they will be breakout stars in GCW.

(Both of these circuits are/were booked.)

I think it was one of the first circuits that I really put a lot into maybe a year after I originally bought TNM I had Ax from Demolition do some singles wrestling after a falling out with Smash.  He ended up winning the world title (can't remember who from) and becoming a major player for a bit. (Unbooked)

In a booked circuit I ran a few years ago Ed Leslie of all people became a star.  I had originally just had him there because I had Hogan.  Leslie was supposed to just be low card, but I played up the real life relationship with Hogan.  Hogan got injured before I big match and it fit better than anything else to have Leslie step in and take his place.  He never won the world title, but he stayed a pretty predominant figure (with sort of an underdog gimmick) untill he got retired by a heel HBK a year and a half of TNM time later.  Given the circumstances and such I bought Leslie as a star in my mind and that's why I ran with him up there as long as I did.

When I did tests for my circuits the most unsuspected winner of a 32 men tournament I had was Droz :) And I did run it unbooked.

Minoru Fujita was definatly an unexpected star in Neo Wrestling Japan.

Katsuyori Shibata is also dominating my New Japan circuit (which I need to update as I have finished the G1 at this point...)

It's been awhile since i have posted, but I thought I would throw my 2 cents in.

Even though, I don't think you can really call him an unexpected star, but Austin Aries has been more dominant than I expect in my HIW fed.  He has only held the World Title for 4 months game time, but has been dominant in title matches, against all the top stars of my fed, including winning a feud over the title against James Gibson.

Jimmy Jacbos has had a good run in the HIW. He shocked Homicide to win the World Title, but lost it a short time later to Aries, but later won the Tag Straps with BJ Whitmer, and has been tough to defeat.

In the unbooked BCW, it would have to be the super team of La Parka and Jimmy Snuka.

In the unbooked, CW the surprise star would have to be Manny Fernandez.

And in WatA, it would have to be Universal Champion John Kronus.  He's got quite the claim on the title, even though Bret Hart possesses the actual title belt while not being champion at the moment.  The other WatA surprise star is Devon Storm.  I run the Dungeon Title unbooked, while running the Universal Title totally booked, while the tag team titles are somewhere between the two.

And for my biggest surprise star of them all... from RUFF... Jobber #1!!!!

For me it would have to be an insane some time rapping, sometime speaking spanish, Warrior. In my USWA/F feds I hired him to be nothing but a jobber but had so much fun making him insane that he became one of my main people.

This is a great topic.  It's very interesting to read all the responses so far.

For me, I havent really had a HUGE surprise with someone taking the top tier in my feds, but the closest I can come to  answering this question would have to be my Tag Team champs of Rhino and Al Snow (J.O.B. Squad).  They won a 4-corner tag team elmination match as the underdogs in the match to become the first Tag Team Champs in my circuit.  This match was unbooked, so I was really surprised they won.  And at first, I didnt like the outcome, but after some unbooked title defenses, I started loving them.  So, I would have to say that, as of right now, they are my only Unsuspected Stars of TNM.

My circuits are still young, but Scotty 2 Hotty has put together an impressive string of unbooked victories over John Heidenreich, Orlando Jordan (non-title), and Kurt Angle.

He's getting a US Title shot against Jordan next week.

Dunno if this counts but when Troy Perry first released the beta of TNM-UV (to demonstrate what it'll be like without having it connect to TNM yet) I simmed a few real life feds all in the same universe and just about 4 or 5 months into things Johnny Nitro wins the WWE title and holds it for somewhere around 7 or 8 months.  Didn't see that one coming. (Unbooked obviously since you can't book in the TNM-UV beta)

great topic. STEVE BRADLEY so funny he was mentioned. I had him in my USWA fed and he dominated. RVD like TV title run for a year and 1/2. I lost my TNM and started my fed a year ahead of time as a rebirth under new ownership, and Bradley was never the same.

Jun Akiyama by far the best unsuspected star. Wasn't meant to be in the Main Event, but ended up winning a few, got a title shot won the title, but the impressive part is 23 UNBOOKED TITLE DEFENSES! I've never seen anything like it. Now he FINALLY lost the belt to Raven in a STEEL CAGE, but his run was truley amazing.

With the Circuit History plugin I didn't even notice, but Jerry Lynn has been really sucessfull. Won an X Division tourney, X division champ 2 times (only person ever) and a 2 time tag team champ. He's had his chances for world title, but never got the job done.

2 Time PWM World Heavyweight Champion Gran Naniwa! Of course the fed was unbooked and I had six champions in the span of three months, but still...

I also have a "Hardcore Holly" story. In my case Goldberg was ducking The Rock, saying that he had already beaten Rocky, so Rock had to work his way up form the bottom. Goldberg took the Austin match to "prove" that he wasn't avoiding title defenses. Naturally Austin won completely screwing my story :-/

I believe that's one of signs you're a little too into your own storylines, when you book Austin vs Goldberg as a throwaway match because Goldberg is ducking the real challenger.

I ran an unbooked NWA:TNA circuit using Rick's Old School Rules and the break out star was Supreme. Going under his "Human Horror Film" gimmick he captured the NWA World Title by defeating Raven, he lost the title 2 weeks later to Scott Hall, but aligned himself with Scott D'Amore and Petey Williams and Bobby Roode in Team Canada. 2 weeks passed and Supreme reclaimed the title from Hall and went on an unprecedented 25 week reign by hook or by crook.

He defended the title 11 times. He defeated Hall, Raven, Andy Douglas, Chris Benoit, Raymond Rougeau, Jeff Jarrett, Matt Morgan, Chris Harris, AJ Styles, Rougeau a second time, and Chase Stevens before ultimately losing the title to a face Jeff Jarrett.

Ha, even in TNM the NWA title always ends up back on Jarrett ;)

I had Tajiri, as a 29th seed (out of 32), win a King of the Ring Tournament and then go on to win the title on the next card. He retained it until I retired the circuit.

I run a women's circuit in which once per year I hold a "Celebrity Bash-A-Thon" card in which "real" wrestlers take on celebrities designed to be pushovers as wrestlers. I always run this card before my most important card of the year.
Well, I had Nicole Bass, who had won the championship while on a hot streak, set up to defend in a huge match on the big card. However, at Celebrity Bash-A-Thon she managed to lose a deathmatch for the title to Britney Spears. Bass pinned Spears 17 times during the match to 3 pins for Spears but could not get a ten count for the win. Eventually outside interference cost Bass the title. It completely screwed up my angle for the big card. Bass never recovered from the defeat, going on a long losing streak and eventually quitting the circuit.

 ;D:o ;D
Well, I must say that that has to be the funniest story I have heard in this thread yet.  lol, I can't believe Spears held a TNM World Title...wow.
