Lung Blower??

phudjiePosted on 06/22/05 at 11:54:35

hey - what's a lung blower - anybody got a picture?

A leaping double knee backbreaker - if that helps.

It's sort of a neckbreaker/backbreaker variant. The wreslter executing the move gets behind the target, grabs a hold of the target's neck and falls backwards so that he lands on his back with his knees up. The wrestler's momentum whips the target down and onto the knees while also wrenching the neck somewhat.

ROH's John Walters used the move heavily, and recently WWE's Maven adopted it as a finisher.

It's still a stupid name for a move.

It's certainly no worse than "backbreaker" or "neckbreaker."

WHAT?!  How in the world are BackBreaker & NeckBreaker bad names for moves?  Cause in sense that's basically the purpose they could serve.  To break the part that the move applies too...  But a Lung Blower?  WTF!  Sounds like something sick!  Not sure why they wouldn't just call it Wind Knocker or something like that : :P
Critic of the DawnPosted on 06/23/05 at 15:30:39

I didn't say that backbreaker and neckbreaker WERE bad moves.  They're basically the same names as lungblower, however.  All three are over the top names describing which part of the body the move supposedly targets.  A move name evocative of one's lungs getting squashed and forcing all the air out is certainly NOT any more disgusting than one evoking an image of the bones in one's neck being shattered and most likely causing either paralysis or death.  It's no different than any move along those lines (brain buster is another which is just as gooey and nasty if you think too much about it).

Ridiculous or not, backbreaker and neckbreaker are much better names for moves. They imply an over-exagerated result that captures the imagination. This is typical of wrestling. "Lungblower" just sounds vaguely pornographic.

Take the following example:

"I'm going to break your spine with my deadly Backbreaker!"

- or -

"I'm going to make you exhale really hard my infamous Lung Blower!"

Now really... Which is better?
americamamushiPosted on 06/24/05 at 06:38:03

what about the Respitory Wrecker?
Critic of the DawnPosted on 06/24/05 at 07:14:32

Knocking the wind out of someone is certainly a much more realistic threat for a wrestling move than breaking something.  Even in kayfabe terms, neckbreakers and backbreakers look painful, but unlikely to actually do what they threaten.  Whereas a Lungblower looks like it'd do exactly what it says.

Even if you prefer the more dangerous sounding names, when I hear "lungblower" I first think of something more akin to a tire blowout than a simple punch in the stomach.

On Wikipedia it says Maven calls his version the M-Plosion.  The WWE bio still lists his finishers as "Top-rope missile dropkick" and "Top-rope bulldog" and the WWE fantasy game lists it as the "Chinlock Backbreaker"

For what all that is worth

The Lungblower is an awesome name for a move. But Chinlock Backbreaker sounds cool too.

It's also been called the Taliban Backpack.
