RyanSolbergPosted on 02/10/05 at 13:06:38

Ok Im working on my new arena plug and want to know what everyone thinks. I'm doing the stats part. could you answer these questions for advertisement.

1.Out of 1-100, advertising  the next event  on you tv shows or at your shows sells tickets?

2.Out of 1-100, advertising  the next event with posters or flyers sells tickets?

3.Out of 1-100, advertising  the next event in the newspaper sells tickets?

4.Out of 1-100, advertising  the next event in wrestling magazine/on the internet sells tickets?

5.Out of 1-100, advertising  the next event with TV comercials and TV spots(talk shows, Etc..) sells tickets?

Once I get this worked out Ill be pretty much done.

1.Out of 1-100, advertising  the next event  on you tv shows or at your shows sells tickets?

Depends on how hot your product is.  In the height of the Attitude Era, this would have been a 100.  At the moment I'd call it about a 50 due to the lousy house show business.

2.Out of 1-100, advertising  the next event with posters or flyers sells tickets?

Depends on the size of the promotion.  Street teams at other wrestling events is a very effective tactic (75) for indies, but for something the size of WWE it'd probably be more like 5.

3.Out of 1-100, advertising  the next event in the newspaper sells tickets?

Let's say... 10.  To the best of my knowledge, newspaper advertising doesn't play a major role in any promotion's advertising efforts.  This might be higher for an indy fed, where a good write up in the sports section could bring a few new faces, but for a big promotion the effect is probably negligable.

4.Out of 1-100, advertising  the next event in wrestling magazine/on the internet sells tickets?

Again, depends on the size.  90% of ROH's publicity is via the internet, and it's consistently the highest drawing card on the indy circuit.  Indy fans are more likely to be receptive to internet hype than WWE fans.  So, let's say... 90 for indies, 25 for WWE.

5.Out of 1-100, advertising  the next event with TV comercials and TV spots(talk shows, Etc..) sells tickets?

This would be a HUGE publicity coup for an indy fed, and the effect would easily be 100.  However, the cost involved is so high that it would be difficult for them to manage.  With WWE, this usually only happens to hype major shows, so... call it a 65.

Another factor you might want to consider is the effect of legends and foreign stars on the card.  Booking Dusty Rhodes or Marty Janetty or the Midnight Express is a huge draw in the south.  And ROH bringing in Jushin Liger in November seemed to draw about 300-400 fans by himself (out of a crowd of 900-1000 at the Rexplex, average for shows there is about 600).  I don't know if you can do this, but the effect would probably be strongest in Japan and the South, and still present but weaker elsewhere.

How many "bingo hall" type places are going to be included in the arena portion of this, by the way?

Thats great input. added a couple things in mind for my plugin. I hope to get lots of small arenas but I need some lists. I have 2 more questions;

6. What do you think the average max capacity of an indy league arena?

7. What do you think the average min capacity of an major league arena?

thanks, Ryan

Well, from my knowledge of ROH, I gather that the Murphy Rec Center in Philly where ROH held most of its earliest shows was pretty full with a crowd of 500. Assorted National Guard Armories could probably hold 1000 to 1500 easily. The RexPlex could probably get up to 2000 or a bit over (The largest ROH show ever was there, with 1800 in attendence). A small arena such as those generally used by ECW for major shows could probably hold 2500 to 5000, maybe a bit more. Definately under 10,000, though.

A major arena which holds 10,000+ with less than 2000-3000 seats filled would be pretty empty, and I doubt the company performing there could make any money on the show.
