Biggest championship/royal rumble upsets

Owen Hart RIPPosted on 07/16/04 at 22:00:03

Here are my list of the biggest upsets I have ever had: (none of these were booked)

1. Funaki winning the 15 man smackdown pinfall only battle royal for the vacant WWE title (he actually made a decent champ too!)
2. Nunzio "shortly after being traded to RAW for Rob Conway" upsetting Chris Jericho with an inside cradle to take the World Heavyweight title, albeit briefly. (Nunzio got the title shot when he won a midcarder battle royal for a shot at the title
3. Ric Flair being pinned by Barry Horowitz for the IC title
4. Brooklyn Brawler taking William Regal to a time-limit draw

But my personal favorite had to be Dusty Wolfe upsetting HHH in a tag match where Wolfe teamed with Mike Sharpe and HHH teamed with Randy Orton! That shocked the hell out of me!

Mine might be JBL winning a 10-man Elimination Chamber for the World Title with The Undertaker, Kane, Shawn Michaels (champ), "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Mick Foley, Randy Orton, Edge, Triple H & Goldberg. Pretty good match (got *****), just JBL won by beating Kane & Foley within 20 seconds.

I know I have some that are much bigger upsets than this but just today I had Tommy Dreamer cleanly pin Brock Lesnar for the World Title.

Other than that, what I remember the most offhand is Rikishi constantly beating Goldberg.

In one of my joke feds a while back  I had Mae Young beat Booker T.

New Jack beating Keiji Muto to unify the NWCW Hardcore Title with the PWM World Title (I was running an invasion angle.)

a few years back, when D'Lo had only recently started wrestling (ok, a lot of years back) in the Nation, I had a torunament for the vacant world championship featuring a ton of random wrestlers, and of course some specially picked main eventers. I was a big Triple H fan at the time (keep in mind this was during his original DX days) and wanted him to win but I refrained from booking it as such. in a surprise turn, Trips was eliminated in the first round by D'Lo Brown who went on to win the title

I must say my recent feds first card WWE Royal Rumble - A New Beginning had one of the biggest on it. Bubba Ray Dudley walked away with the Royal Rumble match victory and the WWE World Heavyweight Title. Who knows how long he'll hold the belt but it is a shocker none the less. D-Von also had a good showing eliminating 10 guys including Shawn Michaels 40 seconds after HBK entered the match.
