Weidest Pairing of Tag Team Champs

Murphy42782Posted on 11/28/04 at 22:44:08

I was just curious what the strangest tag team champions you've ever had were. In one of my circuits I had Scott Steiner and Road Warrior Hawk as tag champs, and in one I am currently running "Dr. Death" Steve Williams and Moondog Cujo have a stranglehold on the titles.

I think my strangest champs were probably Bison Smith and David Flair.  Weren't champs long, but it was a quality little angle.

I seem to remember once having Kurt Angle and L.A. Park (then still La Parka) as tag team champs.  I had justified their team though.  La Parka was fairly hot in my circuit and Kurt felt that his popularity with the fans was slipping so he sought out La Parka to give him tips at being cool.  It was funny because La Parka didn't speak english and Kurt didn't speak spanish so you never really were sure if La Parka knew what was going on or Angle just thought he did.  If you don't think that is weird enough imagine Kurt Angle dressed in a cheap halloween skeleton costume (sans mask) doing the La Parka strut. ;)

Hawk and Steiner... isn't so improbable based on their past in Japan.  But Cujo and Dr. Death?   That is a strange team.

Bison and Flair would have been a likely pairing in IWA-PR as both were there at roughly the same time.

Angle and Parka?!!  Now that freakin' rules.  :)

Sounds about like La Parka and Jimmy Snuka for me with BCW.

I'd have to say right now my "strange" team of the moment is The Great Kabuki and Steve Armstrong, both being managed by Gary Hart in my CW circuit.  Either that or Ron Garvin and Rick Steamboat... based on their on-going feud that they won't explain to the fans, yet they were forced to form a team and are doing well.

In one circuit I have Raven & Kurt Angle were forced to team in "lottery " tag team tournament & ended up winning the titles. They had a good hold on them too. Plus the angle I had them in was they couldn't get along at all. I even had a match that Angle would never tag into & Raven fought it all alone.

Currently I have Randy Orton & Charlie Haas as tag champs in GPW. Not really a "strange" team but a highly unlikely one as they really don't have anything in common.

These guys were never my champs, but the weirdest pairing I ever had was probably Diamond Dallas Page and Goldust. They were called Diamond & Gold. Real original, huh?   ;)

A few of mine were Disco Inferno and Arn Anderson/Ric Flair/Curt Hennig

Disco became a member of the Horsemen when he we put into a "Fourth Horsemen" match by GM Dusty Rhodes just to screw with Flair.  It was Anderson/Flair/Hennig and they were looking for a fourth.  The candidates where Benoit, Triple H, Jeff Jarrett and then Disco.  Disco won when Flair hit Benoit by accident.  Dusty then said that Disco was a Horsemen for 30 days or all the Horsemen were fired.  Ended up Flair and Hennig no showed so Arn had to team with Disco and won the titles.  They then started their own little "Freebird" type title defenses.

I also had Kurt Angle and Goldust (mistake, wanted Goldberg and worked too quick).  They won the titles and then defended for some 20 shows or something.

Right know i have Shawn Micheals and Mark Henry as tag champs. They won in a random pairing Tag Battle Royal.

another werid pairing was one of my longest lasting Title Reigns ever. Period! Crowbar/D'lo Brown, they won when David Flair no showed against the Road Warriors. It was one of the best matches ever. A small jealousy feud started between Flair and Brown esclating in another 5 star match. But in the end they held the title some 65 cards.

.....My weirdest pairing has been Raven & The Honky Tonk Man. The story behind this being that I had a very strong tag team division, with some physically dominating teams; Demolition and The Road Warriors as well as some other "random pairing" teams like Bubba Ray Dudley and Samu (dedicated to hardcore wrestling) and Super J & Stone Mountain who where a jobber team that fought their way up the card by stealing The Road Warriors finisher, (despite sveeral attempts, Hawk & Animal never did get a win on them), anyways - all the top teir teams a fueding with eachother, and somehow - the Tag Titles fall through the cracks and end up in the hands of midcard/jobber team of Bull Buchannon & Kendall Windham. When me Survivor Series rolled around, I had the card mostly booked when I realised that I didn't have the tag champs anywhere - some I scrounged up enough guys that weren't booked to have a 5 on 5 elimination match. During the course of the match - Raven and Honky each managed to pin of the Tag Champs. This led to HTM's manager, Jimmy Hart demanding a tag title shot for Raven & HTM, despite the fact that Raven didn't want it. The match between the two teams went to a 20 minute draw, Jimmy Hart demanded another shot, (against Raven's wishes) Raven & HTM didn't lose - this next match ends in a double countout - Jimmy Hart demands another shot - Which Raven still doesn't want - this one ends stupdily as well, but I can't quite remember as it was about 2 years ago, I think it was a double pin, but I'm not sure; anywho, on their 4th attempt - Raven & Honky  are victorious, despite Ravens objections - and then my computer crashed before I could play the rest of the angle out.....and all of it was unbooked

None really - Curt Hennig and Crush I guess, but I cut that short when their matches were MAJORLY sucking. No prizes for guessing the scapegoat there. Funnily enough, now I wouldn't care one way or another.
