Greatest TNM7 fed you've ever seen

HawkPosted on 10/11/04 at 18:17:51

In your opinion, list what circuit you followed over the years that struck you as the best. It could just be one that lasted a few months or like my pick, could have lasted years.

For me, the best circuit I ever saw was the SMWA. It is the pinnicle of fantasy wrestler circuits in my eyes and the TNM7 community took a hit when it passed on. It really is the inspiration for all my circuits as I've tried to become as good of a writer as Kirk was.

The runner up for me was Brian's WWF Circuit. To me, it had realistic storylines and was something you could belive in. Not like alot of feds where AJ Styles is WWE champion(no shot to anyone here...just an example.) Not to mention watching him evolve the fed over the years was quite fun.

What are some of the others you guys liked?
JohnManardPosted on 10/11/04 at 18:24:14

Two circuits stood out to me as the best ive ever read or still read.

For real wrestlers the best was Lee Kelsalls WWF, still found at http://lkelsall.tripod.com/ . . . no longer running but he inspired me.

For created wrestlers no one imp can beat Jesse Day's VCW at http://www.courageourknights.com/vcw/VCW.html

The best fantasy circuit ever in my opinion. Its just that damn good.

I always found SMWA to be painfully overrated.  Maybe it was just me, but when the Haggar/Scorpion feud ended with Hagger making Scorpion a vegetable, I thought I was reading a script from a bad soap opera.  It had its moments, but it just was too hokey for me, even for wrestling.

I'd say my favorites included Brian's WWF Circuit, Lee's WWF Circuit, Kod's SCW, Josh Cooper's WWA... current circuits I enjoy are 91's DWF, CotD's NDW, and G-Force Wrestling has a lot of potential.
HawkPosted on 10/12/04 at 19:41:16

Ugh. Yes I agree about the Scorpion/Haggar feud.

Everything leading UP to the "Death" aspects was very good though IMO. I've never really found a circuit that got me that interested in the characters beyond SMWA.

I'm sure my friend Steve will be VERY happy to hear you think his G-Shock fed has alot of potential. He's worked hard on it.

...pssst...Check out JGP.

I didn't hear anything!

There was one on the old TNM boards I thought was really good. I forget whose that was or what it was called, but it was very good, I remember that much.

The ones on the board right now, CotD's, Snabbys and cerberos' are the stand out ones for me. And the other boards I frequent, my mate Ads did/does (if he ever updated again) one I've enjoyed for a long time, and my other mate Guy circumvented logic and booking supremacy to put out something so damned funny, I had to vow never to eat or drink whilst reading it again. Apparently even Adam Ryland E-Mailed him to say he liked it.

And I suppose I can't go without mentioning Olivers circuit. It could do with more wackiness (  ;) ) but I always found it perversely entertaining/entertainingly perverse, as I like to say. How about an update bucky?

I could safe to say my favorite TNM7 fed that was the greatest was indeed, SMWA. Not only that they had wrestling cards but they also had profiles of their wrestlers, tag teams & stables. They also had title histories, results & if you needed their wrestlers for your circuit, they had export files on their site & they updated them monthly. Hats off to you SMWA, you've earned my respect.
Rick GarrardPosted on 10/13/04 at 01:04:44

Not to nitpick or anything but wasn't Kirk's SMWA ran using TNM 6.2 plus and not TNM7?

Seeing how this is a best of TNM7 fed thread, my nod goes to CotD for his work with NDW and also to Matt Harms with his MCW. And honorable mention goes out to the multiple variations over the years to Ryan's multiple starts and re-starts of GCW. And who could forget to give good ol' Rob Bihari's Lucha feds a mention along with him starting the first ever TNMWA?  And to any others I give feedback to, keep up the good work as well.

In my opinion, everyone's work here is equally done well.  What some of us enjoy to read, may not be what others enjoy.  And same goes for the writers of each of the circuits.  One's style may not be the same as others, but all are of equal importance to the community.  You'd be surprised at some of the circuits I've borrowed ideas from over time.  Usually not the "bigger" name ones either.  :)

Keep up the good work EVERYONE.  :)
Snabbit888Posted on 10/13/04 at 01:24:01

Regardless, SMWA is overrated. :)

And I forgot Rob's lucha feds.  Yay Rob's lucha feds.
Snabbit888Posted on 10/13/04 at 01:33:41

I agree with Rick on that too.  There's a lot of circuits I personally don't enjoy a whole lot, but I don't downplay the work that goes into them.  I've had several talks with Rick about how I don't like his ruleset (or rulesets in general), but I respect the hard work he has put into it, and many new circuits have spawned from his ruleset, and that's always good for the community as a whole.
LillaThrillaPosted on 10/13/04 at 05:45:25

Look who dropped in to give their 2 cents. ;)

Yeah, everyone knows I'm an SMWA mark too.  I really enjoy Jesse "PLC" Day's VCW.  I also enjoyed Kod's SCW back in the day.

As far as real wrestler feds, Tommy's WCW-SF was one I always though was great and Colin's AAA-MP as well.  Rob's lucha feds were nice but they seemed to start/stop so much I could never really get into them as much as some other feds.

And while I'm loath to bring up his name, Drin's Pro Wrestling EDGE was pretty enjoyable.

I, on the other hand, have learned to love rulesets.  They make things just a touch easier to set up, and by making a few of the choices for you they put you more in the position of a fan than that of a booker.  Some prefer the latter, but I really like the former, and thus it's a bit more fun because sometimes even I'm surprised.

As for my favorite circuits...  my favorite of all time has to be an NWA circuit linked to by Josh Liller's page.  It featured some incredibly storylines, including a very credible "Generation Next" type group a couple years before ROH started to make good use of the concept.  I don't recall who ran it, but it was incredibly well done, so I've got to give them the nod.

At present my favorite circuit on the boards is Snabbit's GCW.  When it first showed up here I would almost always skim over it at best, or more often skip it entirely because Ryan is just so detailed with everything that it's daunting to start reading.  Then he started replying to my NDW cards and asking for my thoughts on his, so to be polite I gave a few of his cards a more thorough look.  Lo and behold, within a few cards I was a big fan of what he was doing.  The amount of work he must put into his cards with the detailed match analysis and long promos he uses is staggering, and it really shows once you get past the initial "Oh crap, that's long!" reflex.

91's circuit has some really great comedy stuff a lot of the time which I wish I could match more often.  I get a few funny things here and there, but it's much less consistent with me.  And, of course, I really enjoy Rick's CW (and BCW before it), because they really pave the way for my own circuit (he did write the Oldschool rules, after all).  I find myself liking the old BCW stuff more than the CW stuff, however, since many of the wrestlers he's using in CW are before my time to the point that I know nothing about them.  That makes it harder for me to get into things just like it's hard for me to get into a lot of fantasy wrestler feds.  Cerberos's SmackDown is a lot of fun for me as well, because it's interesting to see how his vision compares with WWE's as they diverge.  Some of his choices (bringing HBK to SmackDown) I agree with, while some of the others I think WWE's got a better idea.  But it never fails to entertain me.

Anyway, there's so many entertaining feds out there these days that I really can't mention them all.  Chances are that I read them if they're posted in the circuits forum here, though, and most of what I read I enjoy.

Currently I think G-shock and Snabbit's circuts are my favorites...although admittedly I do sometimes only skim through GCW (sorry it's a lot of writting.)

In the past, although they may not be the best written circuts ever, I think that the numerous superleagues I have been in are my favorites. They are highly entertaining and I still wish there was one around for me to join.
Snabbit888Posted on 10/13/04 at 19:32:31

Yes, it is a lot of writing. :)

Ironically, a lot of people have said how much they loved SMWA, but Kirk always wrote a ton too. :)
91Posted on 10/13/04 at 20:11:55

I'd rather read a circuit with a ton of detail than none at all. Admitedly I skim past when people capture the entire play by play and go straight to the finish, but when there's a written description going on, I'm always up for reading.
Snabbit888Posted on 10/13/04 at 20:24:40

I'm the same way.  It's my thoughts that since TNM is text-based, if all a circuit gives you is "A pinned B with his Finisher in 0:04:38" well, who cares?  Since we can't actually see the two wrestlers have the match, you need a little something more to make it worth reading, IMO.
zackarcherPosted on 10/13/04 at 21:59:20

I've been racking my brain with feds I liked back from the mailing list.  I don't follow any now, so all I've got is those old ones.  I loved SMWA.  Kirk was great and he did more with my created characters than I ever could.

I always followed Ryan's feds, and got extremely upset when he always restarted them.  I think I remember Garrad having one I liked, simply because it was so old school.  It may not have been him though...I'm not sure.
Snabbit888Posted on 10/13/04 at 22:09:45

I had a long period of time where all of the post-match comments and everything was self-contained in TNM in the circuit, so if something ever happened to my TNM where soemthing in the circuit got messed up, I'd get frustrated and restart.  That's not an issue now as I kep most things contained in Wordpad documents outside of TNM, so now if something messes up, the whole thing isn't shot in my eyes.  I was just a dumb kid before.  I know what I'm doing now... sorta. :)
zackarcherPosted on 10/13/04 at 22:25:15

What amazes me is how you managed to crash it so often.  :)
Snabbit888Posted on 10/13/04 at 22:36:41

I always made the mistake of getting curious and playing around with stuff I shouldn't have, and bad things would happen.  I was somewhat of an idiot. :)
Kazuma_FujitaPosted on 10/14/04 at 00:47:10

I'd really like to see this G-Force Wrestling. It sounds incredible!

Honestly, I wish I had more time to check out all of the circuits. Although I have to admit, I'm not the biggest fan of real wrestler circuits, although if done right, they can be extremely fun.

I'm always into things that are new and unique. Like I love Japanese style promotions, as well as Lucha Libre groups.

I enjoy a lot of SMWA. The TV he did is what inspired me to start writing those lonnnnnnnnnnnnng TV's. However, Kirk did a lot of silly stuff (Like the afore mentioned braindead  Scorpion seg)

I actually need to take some time and read all of the circuits posted here.

And sarcasm aside, thanks to everyone who enjoys G-Shock Wrestling.  :)
