Need ideas/suggestions for new roster

HugeRockStar760Posted on 08/19/04 at 17:34:38

I'd like to start an old school rules circuit but using the current (or dating back to 2003) WWE Roster.  A nice combo from either brand.  So far I've firmly decided on bringing in the Evolution members Triple H, Batista, Ric Flair, and Randy Orton (former member).  Beyond that, I'm having trouble putting together a solid roster of only 20 people that I will not get bored with, but at the same time, not having just stars.  Perhaps, I can include some TNA guys but I don't want to go overboard.

Suggestions for a 20 man roster would be nice.  I know some of you are just waiting to let your creative juices flow.

Chris Benoit, Rene Dupree, Tajiri, Rhyno, & all 3 Dudley Boys.  I think those would make good additions to both sides of the roster.

Hayabusa would be a good one to have, granted he was never in the WWE, but was in ECW, which is now owned by the WWE, close enough.

even though i love hayabusa for inadequately explored/explained reasons, i'd choose jinsei shinzaki as sort of a romaing face. face gets in trouble, jinsei comes in for the assist. plus, he is (or was, rather) not too bad in the ring.

hayabusa, on the other hand, needs a ruthless heel to battle with. this kind of muddles up the top spots. with jinsei, you got a mid-carder who can be hot-shotted between angles with little explanation.

getting away from fmw, you could always go for ohtani or kawada or mutoh. hell, if you don't mind going back a little bit, the great muta is always a good heel to throw into the mix. and he has a history with wcw.

getting away from japan in general, i can't really help you there. i don't follow the indies. nothing there has really gained my interest. taking into account the wwe's current top 'stars', i'm not much into that either, which leaves absolutely nothing.

if i were to choose a roster, and noone's saying i am, limited to twenty guys, i'd pick great muta, toshiaki kawada, jinsei shinzaki, magnum ta, the hollywood blondes, the rock'n'roll express, bret hart, chris benoit, eddie geurrero, dynamite kid, and right there i run out of guys that could work on such a small roster.

of course, this goes completely against what the guy originally wanted, but i'm just brainstorming here. besides, i'm not the guy to give any sort of advice. the thought of a stable consisting of triple h, batista and randy orton doesn't exactly get me all excited.

I like Shinzaki...Albeit, all I've ever seen of him was his stint in the WWF as Hakushi.

And I respect your opinion about Triple H and American wrestling in general.  But it's all I've been exposed to for the most part, except the obvious exceptions.  Besides, I want to try and have fun.  My fun always ends at the roster selection it seems.

Call me crazy, but I'm a mark for Evolution.  Triple H gets way too much grief from the IWC that is unwarranted.  The beatdown on Orton was old school, comparable to the Horsemen kicking out Sting.
Shadow_MaxxPosted on 08/20/04 at 05:18:58

oh, triple h is fine. he's a damn good heel, i guess. i've just never been a big fan since the pose-out he had with scott steiner.

hey, do what you want, as long as it's fun for you. like i said, i'm probably not the one to help you out here. i was a big wcw mark until sting's big return loss against hogan. then i just kinda lost interest in general.

Well your roster seem a bit heavy, how about some juniors to fly around.

Rey Misterio Jr. is always a good choice.

Eddy Guerrero would be good too. He has some good high spots, and can fit well with juniors and heavys.

Chris Jericho is somebody I like to use in my circuts. Hes great in the "smarmy quick thinking-fast talking" kind of role. And he works well as a face and a heel.

Hope that can help.

Here's a tentative roster I've written out.

Faces:
Chris Benoit
Eddie Guerrero
Rhyno
Tajiri
Edge
Bradshaw
Ron Simmons
Rey Mysterio
The Rock
Test

Heels:
Triple H
Ric Flair
Batista
Randy Orton
Sean O'Haire
Chuck Palumbo
Rene Dupree
Sylvian Grenier
Scott Steiner
Booker T

How does it look?  Is there balance between the two sides?  Does it look like a fantasy football team (all stars?)

Not even sure what to name the fed.  NWA?  WWF?  WWE?  NWE?  NWF?  I always get bogged down in the small stuff.

Here is my roster - Its similar but it should help

Heels:
Triple H (Evolution)
Batista (Evolution)
Flair (Evolution)
Undertaker (Mega Heel - Tag Team w/ Kane)
Kane (Same Deal)
Faarooq (They are heels but will be teasing and fueding w/ UT and Kane) - Acolytes
Bradshaw - Acolytes
Edge
Christian
Booker T

Faces:
The Rock
Chris Benoit
Randy Orton
Eddie Guerrero
Matt Hardy
Jeff Hardy
Maven
Rey Mysterio
Billy Gunn (NAO)
B.G. James (NAO - Mystery made him come in as NAO)
Ken Shamrock

I have a huge problem - my heels are stacked and my faces are on the jobber side...But I have a ton of potential story lines - I may bring in 4 jobbers to do nothing but put people over
Possibly - Cade, Tomko, London, Orlando Jordan

Tell me he did not just think about making Paul London a jobber.

If you want a jobber, hire the Big Show. :P

Seriously, there are plenty of bonified jobbers out there.  Hell, if you don't care about having fictional wrestlers (at least as jobbers), I can give you some of mine.  I have plenty.  You can have Santos Gomez, Sniper, Silent Assassin, and Viper.
