Does anyone here used retired or deceased people?

Owen Hart RIPPosted on 06/15/04 at 20:25:25

Just wanted to know if anyone used them in their circuits?

I still use Owen Hart, Brian Pillman, and Bruiser Brody from time to time

Depends, sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.  I guess it depends on what I'm going for in my fed.  Like if I do a puro fed, I usually use Giant Baba & Jumbo Tsuruta for sure.

Yeah I still use them quite often. Owen Hart is probably the person that I use the most. I have used Andre, Davey Boy Smith, Bruiser Brodey, and the Von Erichs.

Yes and yes, Owen Hart, Curt Hennig, Brian Pillman and Terry Gordy all feature in my fed, as well as guys like Hayabusa and Dynamite Kid who, I'm guessing, probably won't wrestle again. It all depends what sort of circuit you run, but TNM essentially enables you to do all these fantasy matches, feuds and scenarios that won't happen in real life so I figure why not take advantage of this and use whomever I like.

I don't like using dead guys, but retired guys I will use, within reason.  By that, I mean I won't use guys that would be in their 70s or 80s by now, but I don't mind using guys like Steve Austin, Bret Hart, Dean Malenko, etc, who have only retired in the past few years.

The only reason I use Owen is because he was not used right when he was wrestling! Owen would have made a believable world champion, but instead they made him dress up in a rediculous Mask which was very Lucha-esque (not that I have anything against Lucha).

As for Bruiser Brody, well, I think he died way to young. He could also made a good champion.

Ditto for Rick Rude

Rude probably would have been WCW champion were it not for the injury. But I still miss Pillman above all other deceased wrestlers, I would have loved to see him as champion.

I still use Curt Hennig as Mr. Perfect too once and a while! I will forever mark out for that gimmick! I recently had a four way "Giants" elimination match between Andre, Big Show, Ernie Ladd, and John Studd. Andre won in the final elimination by pinning his old arch-rival Studd!

One of my Most used and favorite Heel tag Teams is Perfectly Rude With Curt Hennig and Rick Rude.  also use Owen Hart from time to time.

I use them in mine quite often.  I often use the Hart Foundation so that includes Owen, Davey and Pillman and one of my favorites of all time was Curt Hennig so he is used often as well.  And I agree that Hennig and Rude are an awesome team.

I rarely use dead wrestlers, as it feels somehow disrespectful to me, plus since I'm a fairly recent fan I don't know all that much about a lot of them anyway.  In my most recent install, I chose not to include dead people.  For example, I have Animal but not Hawk, and Pitbull 1 but not 2.

As for retired wrestlers...  I sometimes use them, but generally only if they're big names and/or they've retired fairly recently and could concievably make a return for a short while if they really wanted to.  For example, I use Jimmy Snuka in NDW, but I'd be reluctant to use a lot of the guys that Rick uses in (B)CW, and I wouldn't use Bret Hart at all because his injuries were just too severe.

I really surprised no one has started their own "Heaven and Hell" circuit ... one featuring only deceased wrestlers.  There sure are enough of them, one could make a decent circuit from them.

I'm sure somebody was planning something like that several months ago. They did a post and asked for a list of deceased wrestlers, I can't remember them posting the results on here though, though that might be my memory failing on me or something.

Yes, you are right to a certain degree, it is disrespectful. But if you want to use a WWF circuit that is like circa-1986 or whatever, it's only fitting that you may use Andre the Giant since the circuit is dated prior to that wrestlers death
cerberosPosted on 07/10/04 at 17:20:08

I disagree that it is disrespectful.  I look at it more of remember people who were heroes to a lot of people.  But that is just my opinion
Critic of the DawnPosted on 07/10/04 at 18:32:46

I'm not saying that it is disrespectful, just that it feels disrespectful to me to essentially claim that someone didn't die just so I could use them.  Note that this is in the case of doing a modern circuit.  If I was doing a classic circuit, or if I was doing something where the all time greats faced off against each other, obviously my opinion would be a bit different.  However, since I only rarely do that, I would generally feel disrespectful in using dead wrestlers.

Your mileage may vary, of course.

Yeah, I don't see it as disrespectful either - I can understand that it might not feel right for some, I always have misgivings using wrestlers right after they've died, and it's often a few weeks before I'll carry on using them again. Besides, a lot of these guys loved wrestling, it's not like you're insulting them by using them.

And yeah, it would be fitting to use guys like Andre - actually, if you did have a WWF circa 86 circuit, you'd be severely limited if you just used guys who are still alive. No Andre, no Studd, no Davey Boy, no JYD, Hercules, Adonis, Elmer, Moondog Spot, Dino Bravo or even guys like Gorilla Monsoon, Miss Elizabeth, Jack Tunney, Freddie Blassie or Joey Marella.
