Mouse Scroll Wheel in TNM

FStanislawczykPosted on 04/23/04 at 06:07:19

Oliver, would it be possible to program in the use of the scroll wheel that comes on most modern mice? Just a convenience issue but worth asking.

DOS applications don't have access to the mouse wheel, sorry.

I guess I'll just have to wait for that Windows version of TNM to come out  ;)

Aw crap.  I was going to say that this sounded like one of the simplest but best ideas I've heard suggested for TNM in a long time, but if DOS doesn't like wheel mice, then there isn't much that can be done.

Oh well.

DOS isn't at fault. It never knew what to do with mice in the first place :)

Microsoft (and other companies) wrote a driver called MOUSE.COM which taught DOS usage of the mouse.

However, these drivers would have to be updated to also be able to work with mouse wheels. That is unlikely ever to happen...

Well, why don't you update the driveres for DOS. I'm sure it wouldn't take long.

you would have to reprogram a completly new mouse.com. It would be a huge pain in the ass, and probably take quite a while...it's not like you can just go on the internet and update dos drivers anymore, not to mention that I doubt a new version of mouse.com has been released in the past 5 years or so.

Yeah, I was being sarcastic.

sorry sarcasm doesn't translate well on message boards.
