Wrestling Celebrities....

KagePosted on 01/06/06 at 02:34:10

Just curious,

Outside of Rodman, LT and Mr.T and Tyson what other wrestling celebrities have we had... or would be good to be a wrestling celebrity... just need to know for an upcoming event I'm planning in the circuit I'm posting

Pete Rose?
triad4evrPosted on 01/06/06 at 02:44:59

Oh, and let's not forget (or perhaps we should)- WCW Champion David Arquette!
Rick GarrardPosted on 01/06/06 at 02:54:12

William Perry and several other NFL superstars at the Chicago portion of the one WM that was held in NYC, LA and Chi-town.

NFL'ers Kevin Greene, former US Champion Steve Mongo McMichael, Chief Wahoo McDaniel (also a former NFL guy), NBA'er Dennis Rodman, Jay Leno, Country singer Toby Keith in TNA as well as NASCAR's Hermie Sadler in TNA.  And last but certainly not least... Tiny Lister Jr... aka Zeus aka Z-Gangster.

As for good to be a wrestler... Slater from Saved by the Bell and now ESPN Hollywood.
Rick GarrardPosted on 01/06/06 at 02:56:49

if Pete Rose is on the list so is William Shatner for his stuff with Lawler on RAW and Drew Carey for his Royal Rumble appearance.

Also I forgot in the previous post... the first mainstream guy to crossover .... Andy Kaufman!!!  Mega-huge with Lawler in Memphis to the point it got coverage on NBC's Late Night with David Letterman.

And let's not forget all the boxer vs wrestler matches... Muhammed Ali fought Antonio Inoki.  and there were others that did so as well.

Will Sasso from MadTV had a match with Bret Hart.

For real celebrities becoming wrestling stars? Most of the actions stars would qualify. People like Vin Diesel, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren (!)... Ice Cube might make a good wrestler.
Rick GarrardPosted on 01/06/06 at 03:47:01

So might the Rock.  ;)

Some would say he never learned to wrestle, only how to work the crowds, in the first place.  ;)

More to add to the list:

NBA player Karl Malone
NFL player Reggie White
Various members of the band The Misfits (Jerry Only being the most visible)
and how could we forget The Insane Clown Posse (even if I'd like to)?

...and as far as those who made an actual career of it, you have NFL player Monty Brown, as well as a number of football players, boxers, and other assorted athletes in earlier eras like Bronko Nagurski and Primo Carnera.
ZedjaPosted on 01/06/06 at 21:41:30

Akebono??

Also you have Arnie and Sal ;)
Snabbit888Posted on 01/06/06 at 23:04:54

Ernie Ladd as well.  Booya.
Perverted_IconPosted on 01/07/06 at 06:47:47

Bill Fralic and Russ Francis were two of the other football guys in WM II.
Didn't Mongo McMichael turn on defensive end Kevin Greene to join the Four Horsemen?

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Vinny Jones have both appeared and thrown a few punches in their time.

What about the No Limit Soldiers w/ Master P...what ever happened to those guys. The only 2 I remember were Swoll and 4x4.

Karl Malone was pretty good in his match...unfortunately this was completely overshadowed by a severely intoxicated Dennis Rodman falling all over himself during that tag match.
