TNM Gold question - sort of

BigJimPosted on 01/21/04 at 00:39:32

Oliver,

Don't know how relevant this thread is, but I was always curious as to your thoughts on the EWR game series and how close the game is to your initial vision of the TNM7 Gold game that was discussed back in the day.

I am a huge fan of both games and always wondered what might have been with Gold. I get the feeling EWR would have been a ballpark idea of what you could have done, if you had the time. Am I right or totally off base. Thoughts? Things you would have done differently?

Check the following thread.  In it, Oliver talks a bit about TNM Gold, among other things.

Adding to what I originally said, I do think that the EWR series appeals to a broader demography of wrestling fans than TNM does. That's the nature of the beast because there will always be more people who want to be Vince McMahon than Brian Gerwitz ;)

I think Adam's going commercial with the (former) EWR series was a matter of natural progression. Everybody does things he likes out of love - and just for fun. But the more people use your product, the more time you spend on it. At some point, it just becomes too much for a labor of love.

I guess as far as wrestling sims go, you can never have it all. To this day, I've never seen a single sim having both a good promoter engine and a good match engine. It's either the one or the other. TNM 7 Gold was supposed to bridge the gap. Realistically speaking, though, the two animals are just too different to encompass both with a single program.

Could it be done? Yes, it could. Will it be done? I doubt it very much. It's far too big of a task for a single programmer and not viable enough financially to merit a team working on it.

Oliver,

Thanks for your prompt response. It answered a lot of my questions regarding both products. As I said, I've been a longtime user of both programs and appreciate them for what they are. I've always been curious to what you had in mind for TNM Gold and, as far as I can tell, EWR was the closest thing around to what your vision might have been.

I agree with you 100 percent that it is nearly impossible to create a game that would be just as good in simming the matches as it is booking them. I've just always have been curious as to how Gold would have turned out.

Also, thanks to Critic for the link, very interesting read.
