I want to buy but I am worried

I may be silly, but I was wondering how does this game get to use all the wrestlers names and pictures without some sort of license? Sorry is this has been discussed. It is probably a small matter but I want everything to be on the up and up. Thanks for your time. Sounds like a great game.

It does not include any wrestlers with it. They are all provided seperately. Thus, no liscensing problems.

Makes sense. So, what do you get with the game, and where does the seperate file come from?

Thanks for helping a newbie.

The reason I ask is the info from the front page.

"TNM 7 comes with in excess of 1,000 real pro wrestlers from the Seventies, Eighties and Nineties, from the US, Canada, Mexico, Japan and Europe"

TNM 7 FIRST edition came with wrestlers.

TNM 7 SECOND edition (current version) comes with 0 wrestlers, but you go to the right side of the screen where it says "Wrestler Export Files" and you can download either individual wrestlers, or by fed.

OR!  You can go 100% fantasy and make up your entire roster(s).

Technically, it's not clear if you'd even need a license for textual representation of names as long as you don't include images, videos etc.

However, this is a grey area which - coupled with the fact that more wrestlers than at any time before are available for TNM 7 SE - is the reason why TNM 7 SE comes without preinstalled wrestlers.

Actually, I honestly don't think there would be a problem.  WWE is notorious for using copyright laws as weapons, but in this case, they would have nothing.  The wrestlers are all real people, even if the names belong to WWE.  If I know my copyright laws, it goes like this:

Wrestlers: Legal

Pictures: Questionable Legality (official pictures may or may not be copyrighted; I do believe that pictures must be explicitly stated as being copyrighted, though)

Themes: Illegal

Anubis - we still have a deal in place with WWE until mid-2004.

Still, this was the time to take the next step because a copy with all the currently available wrestlers installed completely blew up in my face ;)
