Wrestler heat

91Posted on 08/08/03 at 04:22:58

Just looking at the wrestler heat section in tweakcirc reminded me of a little afterthought. You can edit the figures up to 10, but left to their own devices, nobody ever goes above 9. Is it possible to get anyone up to 10 through your own booking and a good set of stats or does everyone just peak at 9 unless you edit?

10 is reserved for the odd Steve Austins of this world. Sometimes a wrestler will become so super-over that his base number rises to 10 and will remain there despite having bad matches unless something really major happens (such as the Montreal screwjob, which is now a possibility in TNM 7 SE *g*).

Really?  I shall look forward to seeing that one day, although there's probably a 1 in 1 million chance of it happening.

There's like two dozen new finish types in the program and it will cetainly take some time for you to see them all :-)

Some involve heel referees, some involve face referees, some masked wrestlers and some even Battle Royals.

The real work regarding TNM 7 SE was done "under the hood" which you'll only appreciate over time because I guarantee you you'll be muttering "holy sh!t" to yourself quite a few times before you've seen them all *g*

I know this is going to make me seem like a lamer...but what exactly is the montreal screwjob?

Short story - Bret vs Shawn in Montreal, Bret about to jump ship to WCW, Bret and Shawn not exactly best buddies, Bret not wanting to job, Vince and Bret agreeing a DQ finish and Bret vacates belt the next night, match starts, Shawn slaps Sharpshooter on Bret, Vince and Earl Hebner call for bell, Shawn wins title, Bret rather pissed, everyone else bombing it to their respective escape cars.

Long story - someone else can cover that for you, it's too late in the evening and the entire story could be covered in a series of novels.

Screwjob, is the Montreal Screwjob a possibility in TNM now?  Or do you mean that a Heel Ref will automatically say a wrestlers gave up, even though he didn't?
CarlzillaPosted on 08/09/03 at 02:01:35

Ok I did know what it was...I had just never heard it called that...thanks 91.
Oliver CoppPosted on 08/09/03 at 02:06:06

It's a distinct possibility... Vince can't let it go, so why should we ;) ?

I had a question regarding heat that I haven't been able to track....

If you change a wrestler's heat to say 1 or 2 (I like to do that with younger wrestlers or new guys coming into the territory to let them "earn their stripes") is the number still able to change and go higher.

I ask because none of the guys I've changed to 1 have risen at all, even when put against super over 9 rated wrestlers.

I have to say the heat meter is one of my favorite parts of the sim.  It's fun to have to get someone over before their upcoming big title match.

Thanks!

Yes, it is possible. You should, however, remember that if you assign somebody a heat value of 1, we're talking the kind of heat that you can get on a Scotty Riggs or Reese. That's the absolute bottom of the barrell, and you know as well as I do that no matter what was tried with these guys, they never got out of the pit called "ice-cold heat".

As a suggestion, I'd maybe start off somebody new with a heat rating of 3. That'll give him upward mobility and won't clogg him to the bottom of the barrell.

Just as in real life, when you're really over, it takes a lot of shitty matches for you to become less over. Conversely, if you're not over at all (1 or 2), you will have to put in one stellar performance after the other for the crowd to warm up to you again. And even then, there are no guarantees...

Thanks for the kind words :-)

OK, cool...that sounds good.  Now starting someone off at 3 still gives them the opportunity to plunge to the depths of 1 and 2 correct?

It's fun to have that black hole of heat on the roster..at least it gives you an excuse to fire him :)
