... for information on the TNM 7 Second Edition Visualizer Extension.
SauronPosted on 08/12/03 at 02:19:47

I am MORE THAN EXCITED for the visualization add-on! GREAT GREAT idea, especially for some of the guys (about 50% of all wrestlers) that I've never heard of.

Question - are you providing pictures?
91Posted on 08/12/03 at 02:55:25

Yeah, that's what I'm wondering. Plus, would the pictures have to be a specific size in order to work properly (either in practice or in appearance)?

200x250 is the last I heard from the beta board.
91Posted on 08/12/03 at 04:10:06

Now I don't know how you change the size of something. Methinks I'd have to leech off other people.

If you have Microsoft Paint, you can edit pictures' size.

Open up the Image menu and choose Attributes. Change Width to 200 and Height to 250. That'll resize it to the plug-ins specifications.
Oliver CoppPosted on 08/12/03 at 06:39:35

You don't have to change sizes... it's just that they should be a bit taller than they are wide for optimum results. Otherwise the program will scale them.

In accordance with international copyright laws, I will not be able to provide any images. However, they aren't really hard to find on the Net, and I think some fan sites will pop up in that regard.

Gotta tell you... it feels *so much* more authentic with the Visualizer, I wouldn't have believed it.
SauronPosted on 08/12/03 at 19:01:36

Having a central fan site for pictures would be out of this world, guys. Anyone wanna start that? :)
Oliver CoppPosted on 08/12/03 at 21:26:21

It's not like there aren't a million pictures floating around the Net anyway *g*
DemonDanPosted on 08/12/03 at 23:19:57

I can probably do something with regard to the pictures.
RKLPosted on 08/13/03 at 06:46:29

I don't know if I should put this here on start it's on thread...oh well. I was wondering if it would be possible to have a card intro splash screen, maybe have a background picture with a the logo of the title... and text that would say the important matches. Maybe use headshots with a vs. between them... I dunno... something like that. I hope you know what I'm talking about. Maybe you could have it play the card theme music. I was going to suggest it before, and this new visualizer looked similar in the screenshots.

A card intro splash screen listing all the matches would be straightforward.

However, there are a few things which would need to be addressed:

1) How should it determine what matches are "important"? Not all important matches are for titles and vice versa.

2) Headshots works fine for singles and tags but once you go past four wrestlers, the spacing issues will kill you because the heads would have to be made SO small that it wouldn't look nice anymore.

3) Card theme music - why not? Sounds like a good idea.

I think this entire feature complex can take TNM 7 SE a lot further on the "awesomeness scale" even though it's primarily eye candy and doesn't add to the functionality. Then again, maybe the functionality is good enough already to start working on things that catch one's eye ;)
DominusPosted on 08/13/03 at 11:43:22

Umm maybe just add pictures for the Main Eventers (Last matches)

Look at the back of an old WWF PPV Video Box.  Maybe have it look something like that.
The Main matches at the top in Bolder and Bigger text.
Then the others in lesser text as you go down the list from Last match to first match.

See, that's what I meant as well with space problems: the amount of data you can fit on a typical (1024x768) screen is roughly 5 percent of what fits onto a video box.

Yeah, I have to agree with you there, Oliver. I think that if TNM isn't ready to move towards more development in non-essential areas yet, in will be in the near future. And when it is, I'm definitely going to be looking forward to it. :)
RKLPosted on 08/13/03 at 21:32:51

Maybe you could make it so that the intro would be something you created/booked last as opposed to first. You could perhaps select a match to be displayed by using the same kind of functions you use when you want to use a wrestler that won a previous match. That way the user has full control over which match they believe is most important. If headshots aren't feasible, I'm sure a custom background picture that would frame the text would be easier to do.

I've always found it TNM7 definately lacking in an introduction to a card. I've been watching some late 80s-early 90s WWF PPV's and the always have a significant introduction, with music and graphics... it never just begins with a match right away. Obviously, before you couldn't do much with just text, but this visualizer feature you've shown looked like it could be used to fill this void.
Oliver CoppPosted on 08/13/03 at 21:37:06

Actually, I have to take back what I said. The Visualizer has already become far more than eye candy because it now also visually lists eliminations in Battle Royals, Elimination Matches and Three/Four-Ways :)
SauronPosted on 08/14/03 at 01:37:36

Sweet nice feature Ollie!

You're quite right there, and trust me: I will do something with the Visualizer that'll come very close to, match or surpass what you mentioned.

I never said headshots weren't feasible. All I said was that they will not work properly (spacing-wise) for anything past a three vs three match or a three-way/four-way singles match. Users will have to realize this inherent limitation. Otherwise I'll have to scale the pics down to a size where you're hardly able to figure them out anymore.
SnDvls316Posted on 08/14/03 at 20:13:10

Oliver, quick question. Will the picture thing work with plugins as well such as brawl for all, WW3, FCA matches too? Not important to me, but just wondering. Thanks
Oliver CoppPosted on 08/14/03 at 20:20:06

Absolutely. Compatibility with all existing match plugins was one of my top priorities.
rptDX316Posted on 08/14/03 at 20:55:10

It won't spoil the order of entry for Royal Rumbles will it?  ???
Oliver CoppPosted on 08/14/03 at 21:11:54

No.
RKLPosted on 08/15/03 at 12:05:35

Oh, I forget about royal rumble entances... those are always my favourite...
Oliver CoppPosted on 08/15/03 at 12:47:46

Having a countdown wouldn't make much sense because time doesn't pass in linear fashion in TNM. It passes in blocks of x seconds, depending on the action that took place.
RKLPosted on 08/16/03 at 18:26:49

Could you add that siren sound when a wrestler's number comes up?
rptDX316Posted on 08/16/03 at 19:10:33

What would be cool would be if the Visualiser had a special Rumble function.  By that I mean, each time a new participant comes out, it zooms in on their picture, and then plays their theme for about thirty seconds.

Probably would take too long to code all that though.  But it would be rather funky.
DominusPosted on 08/16/03 at 21:16:21

I don't think TNM has enough time to do all that.  Like I've seen 2 or 4 minutes pass on one TNM screen.  It would be crazy to hear theme songs keep playing back to back or sirens all the time.
Oliver CoppPosted on 08/16/03 at 23:30:53

Dominus is quite right. Since TNM doesn't print the "X and Y are stalling in the ring" messages, some time can go by over one page of output. It would be awkward holding up the proceedings for getting the timing right with themes.
RGrahamPosted on 08/18/03 at 02:25:05

Oliver, I just thought of another useful way the visualizer could be used.... Ironman matches!

Here's my idea, since it's easy to lose track of falls during an ironman match, would it be possible for the visualizer to keep a count of falls?  It would be an easy way to know if the match is tied after an hour (so you could hit 'e' for extra time).

Would this idea be possible?
Oliver CoppPosted on 08/18/03 at 08:11:35

Brilliant, Rob... brilliant :-)
DominusPosted on 08/18/03 at 21:28:27

Doesn't the Iron Man Match already have a counter in the top corners, of how many falls a wrestler has?  And in Death Matches I think it's there too.
rptDX316Posted on 08/18/03 at 22:10:53

I think the Heat Meter starts to get bigger after a certain number of falls, but as far as I'm aware, there's no official counter.

Thanks Oliver!  ;D    (I've probably used up all my good ideas for the year now  :P )

The idea just struck me last night when I was running an ironman match.  So, how difficult would it be to implement?  Would it be similar to the X-outs in Elimination matches?
Oliver CoppPosted on 08/19/03 at 07:20:46

It won't be difficult to implement. The only real problem about this is where to cram the fall counters :-). Essentially, I made the decision to only implement these counters for matches where there's ample room on the screen for the counters ;-)
