Favorite Themes

leftsaidfredPosted on 08/03/03 at 21:29:28

I was playing around with TNM last night, especially the themes end of it, and I was wondering what your all time favorite themes are?

I myself enjoy the last Four Horsemen theme, which had a great guitar solo. A few other themes I enjoy are Steve Austin's "Glass Shatters" song, Goldberg's WCW theme, and Ric Flair's WCW theme.

Also, does anyone else use non-theme songs for themes? I tend to use a lot of my favorite songs as themes, and so I was wondering if there'd be any interest in assembling a list of these songs as a sort of reference for anyone looking for a good song to use as a theme.

I've been playing around with some ideas.
I was happy with the way using Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" worked as a theme for the tag team of Chucky and Billy.
Wall of Voodoo's "Mexican Radio" has a nice opening hook to it, as does the Talking Head's "Psycho Killer". I can see plenty of applications for both themes.
I can see using Tenacious D's "Wonderboy" for The Hurricane.
The themes really do enhance gameplay; I hadn't realised just how much until trying them out.

There are quite a few that come to mind.

I really liked Bam Bam's old ECW theme "The Zoo", although not in the original Scorpions version. I still think that would have been the perfect theme for Lesnar but I may be alone on that ;)

Other than that, I still find myself cranking up the volume on some other favorites such as the Midnight Express theme, the Hollywood Blondes theme, Demolition and even Steve McMichaels' WCW stock theme song *g*

Oh... and not to forget my favorite theme of all time --- Kurt Angle / The Patriot :)

All time favourite theme? Probably the old DX theme, followed by Badstreet USA (I'm sorry). And you can never ever say no to the Quebecers music, that was just quality. And the Rougeau's for that matter. The French stuff is doubly clever for that one since it's slagging off America, then they switch back to English and start singing the praises of America again.

And there's also some good ECW ones too - Shane Douglas, Terry Gordy, Mikey Whipwreck and Tommy Dreamer all had good themes.

As far as my using non-theme songs go, sure do. Quite a few actually, as my tastes dictates. On my current roster, there's quite a few by Nirvana in there. A couple by Motorhead to. I stuck Children of the Revolution on Jerry Lynn. I paired up Tom Zenk and Jim Brunzell as the "1980's Representation" and after weeks of searching and asking people, I finally came up with Eye of the Tiger by Survivor as a suitable 80's theme. I gave Raven Evenflow by Pearl Jam on the basis that I thought it suited him and forgot it was also the name of his finisher until later on. And I slapped Twin Peaks by Angelo Badalamenti onto "unnecessarily evil" John Cena.

As much as I like Tenacious D...if we're talking about the Hurricane here, I can't imagine giving him anything but that ridiculous "Hero" song from the Spider-Man movie, by Chad Kroeger featuring Josey Scott...

"And they say that a HE-RO can save us, I'm not gonna stand here and waaaaiiiit..."

Personally, I use the Foo Fighters' "My Hero" for Helms.

And Oliver, I totally forgot about Demolition's theme. It was pretty solid as well. On a related tangent, does it make me a bad person that I would enjoy Akeem's song? :P
Oliver CoppPosted on 08/04/03 at 21:51:17

Not at all, that was very cool :-)

I'm almost ashamed I forgot Badstreet USA.... in particular since I have one of the first 1,000 printed singles, signed by all three Freebirds *g*
RGrahamPosted on 08/04/03 at 22:51:37

Wow!!  'Badstreet USA' is my favorite theme of all time.  I can still remember the video for it (with then Freebird-associate Jimmy Garvin playing a paramedic in it).

Does anyone know where I could get an mp3 of it?

RocketerPosted on 08/05/03 at 15:48:24

Actually, does anybody have any good sites for themes?  I figure I might as well re-download some since the idea of putting them into the game is appealing to me.

I always liked RVDs last ECW theme, and all of Sabus.

Still LOVE the Hitman's.

Ultimate Warrior's was cool for pure adrenaline rush-inducement.
TecmoNickPosted on 08/06/03 at 01:20:26

I'm starting to really like Evolution's theme and entrance video.

The Brood's theme was also a personal favorite.
pszPosted on 08/06/03 at 01:39:22

Motorhead rocks ;->

I actually like their version of Play The Game alot. It has some editing issues, but overall it's just so... Evil sounding.

Gotta Love Lemmy! (And me' mole!)
Oliver CoppPosted on 08/06/03 at 02:07:23

Two more favorites that just came to mind: "I'm the Mountie..." and "A Real Man's Man" :)

I also liked the later edit of Eddy's "Latino Heat" with the rap lyrics turned up.

IMO "Greed" performed by Godsmack could be used as a tough theme!

Hey come on, I like that song! Besides, if it was on the radio for so many months, then some people must agree with me. :)

RVD's old ECW them "Walk" by Pantera was kind of catchy, though I like his new revised version of "One of a Kind" by Breaking Point.

Bret Hart's theme always seemed cool to me (the later version, when more guitar was put into it). When you heard the screech, you knew Bret was about to come out and put on a show.

DX's theme is spoken for. Come on, you know you sang along to it at least once. :)

Finally, I would have to say Undertaker's revised Dark Side theme, where the old theme song had that guitar added into it. It just made it cooler for some reason.

....while doing crotch chops.
H8-SuperstarPosted on 08/07/03 at 01:00:20

I like Midnight Express theme and plenty of FMW themes like Masato Tanaka, Hayabusa, and Kodo Fuyuki. I did love Hulk Hogan - Real American and Ultimate Warrior's theme.

Pantera - Walk was perfect for RVD. Cypress Hill - Rock Superstar was also good for former XPW wrestler Kaos when he went to Rock Superstar gimmick.

Taz theme pretty much stood out in ECW.
pszPosted on 08/07/03 at 01:09:08

Taz == Warmachine by Kiss remade. Yes, twas quite awesome.

The Walk cover for RVD is STILL how I expect to see him come out (Along with Man In The Box for Tommy Dreamer).

Thinking about it, Al Snow's use of Breathe by Prodigy was damned nice (Especially with all the head going around ;->)

AllPowerfulGARTHPosted on 08/07/03 at 14:42:51

Jar, I liked "Hero" too, don't get me wrong.  But I think we can all agree it was pretty ridiculous.  Did you ever see the video for it?

Other assorted awesomeness in wrestling themes:  Hulk Hogan's "Real American," Disco Inferno's "Disco Fever," the nWo's post-apocalyptic porno music, both of Owen Hart's themes, 1-2-3 Kid's "1-2-3," and for some reason I really dig Jaime Noble's pre-remix WWE music.

Also anything from "Forceable Entry" contributed by a band that at some point in their career has had some sort of other hit (e.g. not Stereomud, Neurotica, or Boy Hits Car) and is not named Creed.
kvaderPosted on 08/08/03 at 03:34:44

I can't believe nobody has suggested the Sopranos theme for the FBI!  :(
LillaThrillaPosted on 08/10/03 at 22:44:46

I'm working on a themes list for the very soon to happen TNM 3:16 update.

Here's one I just thought of...
Nathan Jones - "Jailbreak" by AC/DC
RKLPosted on 08/11/03 at 01:29:50

I always thought Mr. Perfect's "Exodus" theme was perfect for him. Same with Honky Tonk Man; and Ted Dibiase's "Money" theme.

I'm definitely looking forward to it; if there's anything I could do to contribute to it, feel free to reply to this, or e-mail/AIM me.
Gaijin Dan MastrianiPosted on 08/11/03 at 06:18:08

I'm partial to Christian's rock opera theme, before they abbreviated it.

"Il mundo! Il mundo! IL MUNDO ES MIO!"
DemonDanPosted on 08/12/03 at 12:33:15

Hayabusa's theme

HHH's theme right before the motorhead one, and the motorhead theme.

ECW had lots of great theme songs, also.  Way too many to name.
doors11Posted on 08/13/03 at 03:06:28

I always thought that these would be better for these wrestlers

Ultimate Warrior   Warrior by Wishbone Ash
Golddust            Fairies Wear Boots  by Black Sabbath

see above  fro Chuck & Billy, Rico
