Puroresu Export Gripes

DragonShirasayaPosted on 08/10/03 at 17:42:11

You know, I don't want to sound like a prick here, but I've noticed something. Now, I am very happy with TNM now and have been eager to get back into it. However, has anyone noticed that some of the new exports are not uh....accurate.

Now, I am mainly talking about the puroresu guys in general. Let me give credit where credit is due in saying most of the WWE wrestlers and the others are great. I commend the export makers for their work there. However, I keep looking at these Japanese wrestlers and get the strange feeling that they could be more accurate. I mean, I am to assume that if they are in one of the packs, they are updated, right? Well why does Satoshi Kojima have a Rydeen Bomb as a finisher? The Rydeen Bomb?!? I don't think he has used it once at all since jumping to All Japan.

I realize it is hard work to make an export. Some of the puro exports are great (CIMA comes to mind as an excellent one), but a lot of them leave a lot to be desired. I don't want to call the people who made them lazy, but I feel a little more research should have been done.

A lot of you will say "Well, just edit them yourself". I honestly have no problem with that as no matter how well they were done, I would probably choose to edit something. However, a lot of other people would have a problem. I think that if a wrestler export is going to be touted as accurate, it should at the VERY least get the basics down (finishers, general stat range, favorite moves). When I don't even see an Axe Bomber in Takao Omori's moveset, however, I just shake my head.

Maybe I am the only one bothered by this. I know a lot of you probably don't see what the big deal is. I just think if Oliver wants to stress the importance of accuracy in the exports he releases, then he should take steps to ensure that they are accurate. Perhaps adding more specialists to the team would do the trick.

I know finding people to make puroresu exports is not an easy thing. However, I know there is one guy around here about to undertake a project that will provide very good ones...but I'm not mentioning any names  ;D...

In fact, perhaps you should go look on another section of the board right about now...

If there's anything in particular that struck your eye aside from Kojima, please let me know.

AJ material isn't easy to come by because whatever you can see on TV - to put it bluntly - sucks. I try to get as many house show tapes as I can, though, and I distinctly remember watching two January house shows armed with a pen and paper, writing down every move that was done by all the wrestlers on the shows. If you'd like, I'll go back and give you the exact matches, dates and cities where Kojima has been doing the Rydeen Bomb :-)

In any case, help with the puro guys is well appreciated because two guys getting tapes and comparing their notes and findings is simply guaranteed to be more accurate than one person doing it, hands down.

Tom Imp raised a similar complaint on one of the other mailing lists regarding US wrestlers. The best policy in that regard IMO is to simply listen to what people think needs to be changed. After all, it's the users who have to be happy, not just the export file creators.

Oh trust me, I completely understand why things are the way they are. I'm just saying you might want to look into making the whole system a bit more efficient.

And going back to my Kojima comments, I did watch some stuff, and yes, he has done the Rydeen Bomb. However, to my credit, it certainly isn't his finisher as listed in the export.

I realize 100% accuracy is in the eye of the beholder. But to me, if you can make the system more efficient, why not make it so? In the meantime, I will start putting out my own puroresu exports for anyone to test out to see if its more to their liking.

I'm always for more efficiency. Thing is, good puro people don't grow on trees *g*

Judging from your nick, you might be part of the solution ;-)

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention in my last reply: in neither of the matches (both clocking in around 25 minutes) did Kojima even tease or go for the Koji Cutter.
