**** IMPORTANT WARNING ****

Oliver CoppPosted on 07/08/03 at 00:35:41

A fellow board member has been having considerable trouble with the wrestler database in one of his circuits.

These troubles could be traced back to a serious bug in Troy Perry's RM2 / RM2extra standalone programs that are available from TNM UK.

Please let me remind you that to ensure data integrity and safety, do not use any standalone programs that have not been certified as TNM Plugins.

In particular with TNM 7 Second Edition, these standalone programs that in some cases are many years old should not EVER be used.

Thank you.

Exactly as Oliver says ...

My programs have had absolutely no testing with SE (I'm yet to be in a position where I can order it). Sincere apologies to the board member involved, and I have asked Peter to add a warning to my addons page asap.

Troy.

Troy, would you please get in touch via e-mail? We've apparently been unable to reach you under the blueyonder one.

By the way, this has nothing in particular to do with SE. The same will happen with FE if somebody puts a comma in any of the fields such as the wrestler name...

Can be remedied easily - use LINE INPUT instead of INPUT whenever reading a string.

Thanks.

I did indeed receive your email Oliver, but when I tried to reply it returned as 'undeliverable' ...

I shall withdraw my programs from the scene until I have time to rectify the problems (that ought to include my MultiFed add-on in your downloads section btw)
Oliver CoppPosted on 07/08/03 at 19:02:15

If you send me the source code, I'll make the necessary changes (which should be easy enough) and return them to you ASAP.

Just an idea...
SockoPosted on 07/08/03 at 19:24:45

No, that's okay .. I may just keep them for private use now as I had no idea that they could cause such issues. I've had plenty of people contact me in the past for minor glitches, and managed to rectify the situation more often than not, but nothing of that kind of magnitude where it totally screws up a circuit. I dare say that withdrawing them would save both of us future (and unwanted) extra work.

Thanks for the offer though.

As you wish, Troy. I have removed the program from our Downloads section for the time being.

If you change your mind, please let me know because your software has been very helpful to many people.

For what it's worth, repairing the circuit was as simple as deleting circdb.dat and rehiring my roster from a file I had just generated.  Took 20 minutes.  TNM is an unusually resiliant program, after all.  As the person who got hit, I'd reccomend just making the necessary changes and posting something about how to correct the problem if it's encountered again on your website and TMMUK for those who have old versions.

Or simply try to avoid commas in your wrestlers' names and nicknames... not a solution but a workaround :)
