Ordering question

Oliver CoppPosted on 06/20/03 at 23:56:26

I've been wondering for some time now if there are people here who couldn't or wouldn't be willing to purchase TNM 7 Second Edition via PayPal.

Reason for this is that if the processing is done through iBill, 16 percent sales tax will have to be added on top. Due to the fact that all PayPal payments go to a US checking account, that wouldn't be the case with PayPal.

As Monday is nearing with huge steps, I'm going back and forth on whether or not to even renew my deal with iBill or switch to PayPal entirely.

What does everybody think ? I don't want to have to ask more than really is necessary so any input here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !

I would rather pay via PayPal because I know I already have an account with them and have not had a problem with them EVER when using them. I'd also like to save the whoping $6 at most too (hey every little bit helps)

I'll do either, but my vote goes to PayPal.

Thanks for your feedback. I actually do prefer dealing with PayPal because they have been much easier to deal with. This is of course not to say anything bad about iBill - I have never been associated with a better credit card processor.

It's just that since they have an office in the European Union, local sales tax has to be collected on all orders placed through IBill.

With PayPal, it's different since all payments go into a US-based checking account for which European sales tax doesn't apply.

Thanks again !

I dont know anything about PayPal I just planned on using my credit card and whatever process I would have to use to do so is fine by me.
Oliver CoppPosted on 06/21/03 at 00:43:58

I guess it would be best to offer both options - via PayPal (they also accept credit cards) for the net price or via iBill for the net price plus tax. That'll leave it up to the user to decide.

PayPal to my knowledge requires that you set up an account with them before you can make a payment using the service but PayPal has become an industry standard for online banking anyway.

I wish I could order now.

You do have to set up an account with PayPal, but it's a one time thing. And they do not send you junk e-mail. Once you order you will get a confirmation from them in your e-mail. I've used them for e-bay, to buy a filp top to my PS2 and for the purchase of Fire Pro Z in just the last few weeks. Anyhow either way I'm buying. If I have to pay (at the most $6) tax I will. I mean I pay it on everything else I buy in life...and I'm sure my coffin and plot of land to lay me to rest will be taxed too. (not to be morbid or anything)

I know that it's still a long time until Monday but it'll be for the better. Bug reports have slowed down considerably with today's Beta 6 being released.

I'm positive that by Monday, it will have stabilized enough that it won't feel like beta code anymore.

The one thing that everybody needs to keep in mind is that until the program is actually released, you will still be working with a beta version. It is likely going to have a few bugs here and there but that has to be expected.

Anyway, to get back to the point: I think the three extra days of waiting will serve to increase reliability and make the initial experience more enjoyable :-)

Via PayPal (which I'm definitely offering), there won't be any taxes... so you'll be safe either way. Thanks for your confidence :-)

Oliver - I haven't registered for TNM7 Non-Special Edition yet, and I have 4 days left on my trial version. Should I just wait until Monday to order? The way I'm reading it, wouldn't it be the TNM7 registration cost ($30 for easier and lazier math) plus the upgrade bundle with the full version of TweakCirc SE ($15), compared to just the $35 cost of both SE's full versions?

Just wanted to make sure that my reasoning skills were stil intact. Thanks!
Oliver CoppPosted on 06/21/03 at 03:09:30

If I were you, I'd wait... it'll save you a good amount of money.
leftsaidfredPosted on 06/21/03 at 04:11:38

Thanks Oliver. I was going to get it as an early birthday present for myself, but I guess I'll just wait until it's actually the day itself before I get it. Thanks again.
Tom_ImpPosted on 06/21/03 at 08:45:20

Sorry, I can't really comment on either. I planned on paying with my credit card.
Oliver CoppPosted on 06/21/03 at 12:08:05

Tom, iBill is our credit card / 900 number / online check processor :-)

With PayPal you can also pay via credit card, it's just the extra step of creating a PayPal account for yourself first but that's a one-time thing... and it saves you the sales tax that has to go on top of orders placed through iBill...
Phatman_242Posted on 06/21/03 at 15:34:47

Oh, then PayPal it is. No way I'm paying the 16% tax on top of it. That's ridiculous.

UWFWhyteTygerPosted on 06/21/03 at 22:11:57

Actually, I was planning on using the 900 number as well,.....IF it is working again. That was how I ordered mine to begin with. Even if I DID have a credit card to use, or IF I WANTED to use either PayPal or I-Bill, I would still choose the 900 number. Easy to pay and a bill for receipt purposes.    ;)

I just extended my contract with iBill today. They claim there was no interruption of 900 number service but who knows for sure *g*. I did get five new 900 numbers today so everything will be up and running on Monday at the latest.

The front-end work is all done, now I'll only have to take care of the back end (i.e., the part after your purchase has gone through).

Thanks !

Absolutely. I'm sorry that it has to be that way but iBill Europe is in England which is part of the European Union... that unfortunately does mean that there is no way around the tax.

PayPal is the preferred option anyway... at least to me. Managable fees, great service and no hassle.

Being that I'm in Germany, I can't call the 900 line to check but I just had a rep from iBill on the phone who swore that the thing is up-and-running.

Thanks !

I just placed my order and I had to laugh (sort of). I did a quick check using an exchange rate converter and worked out that Paypal would cost me £7.36 and iBill would cost about £8.50 so I figured I may as well sign up with Paypal since I'd save just over a pound. Of course, what I didn't bank on was a membership charge of £1.95. :P

Still, on the plus side, by the time I'd filled in my details, the price had dropped to £7.34. I love having a strong currency. And for you political experts, this is proof positive as to why we in the UK shouldn't join the Euro.

The $1.95 signup fee that PayPal asks is only to verify that it's your credit card and that you are who you claim you are. Your next credit card statement will have a four-digit control number which you need to enter into a form at paypal.com to verify your membership. Once you've done that, the $1.95 will be credited back to your account.
