Duration request

rey619Posted on 02/18/06 at 21:45:39

I have a request.. and it is probably the thing that annoys me the most about TNM.

How many times haven't you had opening matches last for 20+ minutes, while the main event finished within 10? Or even less...

What I wish for.. is an option that let you tell the wrestlers for how long they are supposed to wrestle.

This also helps prevent the usual problem with low-profile tag-team matches or filler six-man tag matches that lasts for 20+ minutes.

Maybe when you book, and you select 'TNM decides', you can enter the time of the finish? That way it's still unbooked, but you do have a certain amount of control of its length. Also helps if you're running tv-shows and try to keep the length of the show within the framework of a timeslot.

I totally agree- this problem drives me nuts, too. I don' t really want to tip the results by specifying a move to happen at X duration or booking the outcome, but I do, at times, want it to better simulate TV wrestling- one-minute DQs and 20 minute filler matches make me crazy. I would love for it to have the "TNM Decides" option flagged by default, but you can un-flag it and then specify a minimum and maximum duration that you input. Obviously, it wouldn't have to be an exact amount, that's why I want the minimum and maximum range. Thanks!

I third the motion...  I really wanna be able to just tell TNM how long the match should be, WITHOUT booking how it will end.

Right now I can keep the winner to be determined by tnm, but I have to specifically tell it if I want a pinfall finish, submission, dq, countout, etc...  Just booking the match length without booking the finish would be a GREAT addition.... :)

Put me down for this one as well.
ThnikkamanPosted on 01/16/08 at 04:09:42

actually, I would love this as well. I can't tell you how many matches I've had end in less than 5 minutes. Not just squash matches mind you, but title matches I've spent weeks building to.

I love an unbooked circuit, but being able to say how long a match goes would be great.

Can't ya'll just hit the "R" button to restart the match until you get the time you want while still having a unbooked match?

???

what you talking about crazy man??
rey619Posted on 01/16/08 at 15:13:05

Unright is right (paradoxically). At the end of a match, you can press 'r' to start over again - which is the solution I'm using when a tag team opener goes 25 minutes and the main event singles match goes 5.

How many times a match/card do you find yourself doing this and is it always because of the timelimit rather than the outcome?

You can also press "c" to continue the match, that's what I usually do.
A True Brazilian PatriotPosted on 01/24/08 at 01:43:17

If you want a match to last at least 20 minutes (or whatever time) you can book a random move at that point.

But how many times do you have to redo a match to try to get it into your TV time limit or to a length you feel happy with?
ThnikkamanPosted on 01/24/08 at 02:25:05

I still think a checkbox or a field after you make the match would be helpful. It would make things a bit simpler for those who may just want to run the cards and not deal with booking.

I agree wholeheartedly. Give me a checkbox for a match duration.
triad4evrPosted on 01/24/08 at 06:21:24

That would make me really happy, too... on an unrelated note, what's an "Error 9" normally signify? I tried copying an existing copy of TNM over an older copy on my other computer and I get that on four out of my five circuits.
ThnikkamanPosted on 01/24/08 at 06:38:25

I think Error 9 is TNM's "Bluescreen of Death"
triad4evrPosted on 01/25/08 at 00:01:01

Now I've got the Error 9 on my original, too, so it must have been there to begin with, though I could swear I checked that... the bad thing, that's my 2007 circuit, whose data I was _just_ about to collect and update. Man if that circuit is toast, I will be an unhappy guy... gonna post something to the help section.
The TNM Members ChampPosted on 06/30/08 at 00:33:16

Couldn't you just book a move to happen at a certain point (i.e. book a move to happen at 10+ for a main event match) so the match lasts at least to that point?
rey619Posted on 06/30/08 at 11:04:40

Yup, that's certainly possible. But unless you book a specific finisher, tag-matches tend to drag out the matches, simply because there is four people to share the beating. Even if you DO book a finish, there is no guarantee that it happens when you want it, simply because wrestler X1 and Y1 needs to be in the ring at the same time, and TNM doesn't force a tag so that a finish can happen. In Trios Matches, this is even more of a problem.
triad4evrPosted on 07/01/08 at 00:15:07

Yeah, that's the downside of booking a random move at a certain point- it's great if, say, you wanna avoid a finish in under five minutes, but you could end up with the opposite problem, a match that goes on _way_ too long...

I said that two years ago in this very thread! :)

It works great, and if tag/six man matches start going on too long, you can set the duration length a notch lower.

I haven't had too much trouble with matches going too long and I've been using this method for years now.
