Willpower check...

RussellPosted on 08/04/06 at 23:01:27

I'd would love in one way or another, for some kind of willpower rating to be implemented into TNM, somewhere.

I've been watching a lot of 90's Puroseu  wrestling... And you see these guys struggling to their feet... Some facet of that making a transaction into TNM would be amazing.

I don't know, after a top rop brainbuster or something insane, a "He struggles valiantly to his feet". Fans love that, the drama which is a huge part of wrestling amped up tenfold to make these guys look like bonafide modern day warriors.

Look at Austin refusing to give up in the sharpshooter when Bret clamped it on him, blood running down his face. That's one of the more mainstream examples of "willpower" in a match making it that much better.

My wording sucks immensely, as usual. But regardless, does anyone see any potential in this? I personally would leave to be able to visualize through one thing or another more how hard some people are working in TNM matches.

In regards to submissions you kinda get that effect from checking "rarely submits" or "doesn't submit."  As well as some of the wording while someone is trapped in a hold.

Ah, yeah. That is true.

I'd love for there to be a KO feature, where I think the willpower check could come into play.

Movies that have legitimately knocked people out are pretty common... Even straight clothslines have done it (Axe Bomber to Inoki! ;D)

I mean, some federations based their entire existance around knockouts. Look at the original UWF. I'd love for a Stan Hansen lariat to freakin' knock out, say, Triple H in a TNM match.  ;D

In injuries, there should be a shattered teeth entry. Edge had it happen to him. As as Mick Foley, and Riki Choshu when Akira Maeda kicked him in the face. It should be rare, but stiff kickers hitting someone in the face could result in a week long vacation for a certain wrestler. It'd be a small, but nice touch in my opinion.

Willpower is actually a pretty good idea. It would make the match more of a story, which should the goal behind a wrestling match in general.

There's already the "Hulks Up" check box. I guess a line of text could be added to indicate that it's having an effect.

I agree that a combination of Hulks Up, Rarely Submits, and booking* cover a Willpower factor.

*if you book a spot (ANY spot) at say 20 minutes, no matter what happens before then and no matter what the hit meter reads neither wrestler will submit to anything nor be able to get a successful pin.

One thing that might be interesting would be some connection between Hulks Up and Heat.  In other words, the more a wrestler is being cheered by the crowd the more likely they are to Hulk Up.

What if the wrestler's a heel, or if it's a heel vs. heel match?
LillaThrillaPosted on 09/13/07 at 21:32:20

I can't say that I'm familiar with any heel wrestlers that 'hulk up' but I'm also no Puro export.

You could amend my suggestion about Hulk Up and Heat to be high heat regardless of whether it's just cheers/boos.  Or maybe just have Heat-Hulk connection of you you have your circuit's "Heels are booed" set to Off?

I think you know "hulks up" had an effect when KICKOUT is in CAPS.

No Selling of finishers would be pretty cool too, particulary if it is a move that can be no-sold. Also finishers like lariat finishers where a ref could get hit or the opponent can be knocked into the ref as well, like with a non-finisher lariat, dropkick, etc.

Adding to that Wish of "Shattered teeth" being an injury, I think it would be neat if we could create our own injuries that could randomly pop up.

The ultimate being "Paul London has suffered a career ending injury and will be out for ALL cards."

As long as they don't implement "Death". I'd hate to relive the Owen Hart tragedy

The Ring defeated Owen Hart in 0:00:00.
Rating: DUD

The Wall defeated Dale Earnhardt in 2:00:00.
Rating: ** 1/2

The Wall had a devastating choke slam in WCW.

I saw a heel Ken Patera "hulk up" in Memphis against Jerry Lawler.
