Plugins That Need to Be Considered

BittersweetPosted on 10/26/04 at 22:50:22

The latest in plugins have been very helpful in extending TNM's usability, but this plugin has been sorely missed and just desperately needs to be implemented somehow:

Move Editor - something that shows you all the moves at once in a windows interface, with sortable damage stats (so you can easily edit moves that are abnormally too good or bad.)  It's odd when you import files that bring in new moves and the new move may be a special DDT that causes 50 damage but yet you've got a database that has moves like a hiptoss with higher damage than that, etc.  This editor would let you just click fields that have been left out accidentally by some export makers who create their own moves.  I've once had an import with a particular type of "crossface hold" with no submission field checked on it.  It's just something that you could sort and sift through without having to go one by one.

I mean you could technically have these sortable editors for all the database functions and I'd be happy (a wrestler editor that would allow you to name people's finishers or edit more than one wrestler's styles without leaving the screen.  Applying this to the gimmick matches, foreign objects, dives, managers, tag teams, and stables would be nice too - but the main one for me is Moves.  It just gets tedious to go move-by-move to adjust little things here & there.

Wow, that's a heck of an idea. I hope Oliver considers it! It would be really handy- sometimes its tough to track down an odd abnormally high damage suplex or something. Plus, I would love to be able to really compare certain move damages to see if they are consistent with each other and all the rest. Cool idea! Thumbs up from me!

I realize I'm bumping this from about a year ago, but strangely enough I just realized that this is one of the reasons why I believe I go through stages of playing TNM and then stop for a while.

The tediousness of editing.

I am a fictional wrestling guy, I enjoy creating my own wrestlers for the most part, creating movelists, establishing the angles, and developing these characters personalities.  But for me, it's beginning to border on painstaking to edit things that I want to edit.

I doubt Oliver will see or comment on this, but I'm doing what I can to get it noticed.  I honestly believe that the ability to use a Windows-based plugin like all the latest ones to edit most of the TNM Database features would make me play this game a lot more often and for longer stretches of time.  It would immensely cut down on the amount of time needed to generate a federation, especially for anal picky people like myself.

If these plugins could extract the database data into an easily editable and global manner, I would be in TNM heaven.  As I mentioned in my first post, a Move Editor would be #1 on my list.  I enjoy the Special Move Wizard helping me when I have special names for generic moves, but I hate having a hiptoss from some export hurt more than a DDT from another export, and have to stumble across it accidentally or go through every move to track it down.

Either the ability to sort numerical values, or the ability to use the tree-structure to open every move's information at once, where I could at least scroll through them (with all of them visually accessible in one plugin screen) would save an abundance of time.

I understand that TNM may never merge into complete Windows functionality, and that's fine, but it does seem as if this Windows compatibility with plugins has already done wonders for the program.  If I could just edit the wrestlers themselves, the moves, the dives, the managers, the tag teams, the gimmick matches, foreign objects, etc. with an easier, more stream-lined process, I think I would play this game all the time. :)

Relax, guys. I can confirm I'm working on a Windows-based version of the ControlCenter. It'll take a bit more as work just started a few days ago, but we'll get there :-)

Here's a preview image of what I've been able to do so far. It's not nearly ready but at the moment, you can edit moves just by pointing-and-clicking.

ohhh nice!  ;D
ZedjaPosted on 08/17/05 at 09:03:51

I concur. And still within 800x600 ;D. Great!
americamamushiPosted on 08/17/05 at 09:13:12

sa-lick :)

Maybe it's cause I'm almost asleep at the computer right now, but what would the difference be between tapping out and verbal submission in wrestling?  Like when the arms are tied up?
Oliver CoppPosted on 08/17/05 at 10:04:39

"Tapout" = hit the mat, "verbal submission" = scream for mommy ;-)

Pardon me while I clean the drool from my chin :D

Will this be just for moves, or everything in the control center?

Great looking by the way.
UnrightPosted on 08/17/05 at 14:45:47

Looks great!

Will the database be searchable in any way?
BittersweetPosted on 08/17/05 at 17:03:49

There's obviously nothing more I need to say other than "awesome."  This will definitely be my most anticipated plugin for the game ever.
John ProulxPosted on 08/18/05 at 05:51:28

I will say up front that I will probably use this plugin more than any other I currently use.

I will also say that I really, REALLY hope that "chair smash" is not going to be in the moves database  ??? .
Rick GarrardPosted on 08/18/05 at 05:56:35

actually I think a windows based card scheduler would be more eagerly anticipated... and if it should ever happen, I'd like to think that you could rearrange the card lineup as much as you want until you finalize it by clicking on a button to save it into the DOS TNM code base.
FormulaFirebird91Posted on 08/18/05 at 09:13:11

That does look awesome but I'm with Rick on the card scheduler. :)  I hate when I have to scrap a whole card cuz i messed up. But man Oliver. Nice work. :)  That is going to be cool. And I know what's cool.
Oliver CoppPosted on 08/18/05 at 15:44:43

fett - for everything... a complete replacement.

Unright - searchable how? For move names? For what attributes?

John - that screenshot is from my "dirty TNM" which has several export files in its database which were complete gargabe. It's like the worst of the worst I've ever seen... and that covers some ground *g*

Rick - in the works. I mentioned somewhere else that I scrapped the design I previously had in mind because it wouldn't have used Windows' strengths at all. I'd rather do the ControlCenter first because I plan on integrating the two in some way. How often is it that you try to book a card and then realize you need to adjust a wrestler in some way? It's happened to me a lot.

You'll be able to add, edit, delete any match on the card and reshuffle until you're blue in the face. The only restriction: when using the "winner" feature, you can't have a "winner" match before the matches the winners are supposed to come from.

Also, I'll create something for singles-elimination tournaments where you can influence the positioning of the matches on your card.

But the ControlCenter is first.

Search may be the wrong word. A filter is what I mean. Like, if I want to see a list of all the submission moves. Or all finishing moves. Or all double-team moves.
ZedjaPosted on 08/19/05 at 07:30:36

Searchable like they are now when you press "S" and then write down a part of the move you want to find... But now with the better scrollbar that will maybe be redundant..
Rick GarrardPosted on 08/19/05 at 07:32:19

That's exactly why I was posting about the new scheduler...I remembered you mentioning scrapping the first windows effort on it.  It's great to know that some features that we really haven't noticed as being missing, will finally get added.
hbkid718Posted on 08/19/05 at 07:55:03

I have another suggestion concerning the control center. Every time I have to edit a wrestler, I click on his name, do whatever I have to do, and save it. Then, the screen goes back to the list, but it starts off at the bottom again, and I have to scroll up over and over again to get where I was. I wish there was a way that when you went back to the list, it was exactly where you left it. Can this be changed in the new version of the control center? I hope so. Thanks.

I'd agree with that, Rick. That's why I specified "currently use" :D . Overall, I think there's been so much good stuff coming out and coming down the pipe that TNM has improved tenfold. Good on ya, Oliver!
BittersweetPosted on 10/22/05 at 19:51:42

Just got the newsletter today and saw the proposed Move List Plugin!  So naturally, I had to drop in & just wanted to say thanks to Oliver for all the things you've done over the years and provided for us wrestling sim geeks.  The other plugins sound awesome too, but of course the Move List to Excel sheet will work wonders for me.
