PURE rules match?

Shaun SindelmanPosted on 05/06/05 at 05:06:22

I just started following ROH and I notice they have a PURE title which is defended under PURE rules.

Those rules are:

1. Wrestlers are allowed three ropebreaks to escape pinfalls/submissions. After the breaks are used, reaching the ropes will not stop a pinfall/submission from being counted.

2. There will be a 20 count if a wrestler leaves the ring.

3. No closed fists. Using a punch results in a warning, and if done again, will lead to the loss of a ropebreak.

Wouldn't it be great if this type of match could be chosen and these rules abided by?

Well, the 20 count ringout can obviously be done pretty easily, but the others might make a nice additional (through TNM itself or a plug-in) especially since ROH is so big among indy fans.

does ROH have any PURE tag team matches?

by this I would mean the original tag team wrestling rules where you were only allowed one save by your partner per fall in a best of three match?

Not that I'm aware of, no. One additional note regarding the ropebreaks.. after you've spent your third ropebreak, your opponent can use the ropes ON you during submission attempts (e.g. the tarantula becomes legal etc..)

I don't know how difficult this is to implement, but it would certainly be nice.

It's a complete departure from the way things are currently being done, however it is something which is doable - except for number 3... unless this happens for a punch and a punch only (it could recognize anything with the string "punch" in it but the "Polish Hammer" would be lost on it).

Just make it recognise the strings "punch" "jab" and  "uppercut."  And maybe "Polish Hammer," although I'm not 100% sure that would qualify.  If it did, any Double Axehandle move would probably need to be on the list as well...

It should look for punch, jab, uppercut (except European Uppercut since that isnt a punch like move). As for double axehandles, i dont think they are illegal in PURE matches as i saw several during the Samoa Joe/Jay Lethal match in NYC on 5/7.

But if a wrestler gets penalized for each "punch" (As TNM would recognize) I've had matches that started off with a big series of punches traded back and forth, that'd be all or just about all of each wrestlers rope breaks right there (including warnings on each)  Perhaps if there was a way for TNM to randomly decide when to call foul on a closed fist.

Maybe an option could be added to TweakCirc's DQ Options.. use of 'punch'. Then you can add the parameters as you'd wish. The punch would then be an illegal move, and would be more unlikely to be performed by the wrestler?

This is all just conjecture of course, as I really doesn't know the game mechanics.. just a suggestion..
