Wrestler Ages/Birthdays

AnubisPosted on 07/04/04 at 22:13:42

This would be the most necessary plugin.  We need wrestler birthdays and ages, along with a way to configure the time scale for varying promotions.

Seriously, no offense to Oliver, but (as per his TNM circuit) I honestly don't see Hulk Hogan or Ric Flair still wrestling regularly (or as main eventers) in 2010 and beyond.  They would be in their 70s!  Yet in his circuit, Hulk Hogan just recently got retired by the Rock in like 2015.  Kinda silly, honestly.

There should be something in there to deal with career-ending injuries and ages, along with deaths (because Hogan won't be making even guest appearances come 2050 or later) . . .

That's really up to the booker though.  Oliver didn't HAVE to have Hogan wrestling in 2015... he chose to.  Some people run circuits ignoring ages and time frames as they want to see if The Rock could beat Lou Thesz.  So, the plugin already exists in your head.  You don't want to use a 70-year old man... simply don't. :)

I see what he means though, it would be nice just to have a randomized file that after a certain age a wrestler may retire.

Otherwise it will feel kind of like cheating to just fire someone :-P

Oh, I like the idea too.  I'm all for as much realism as possible.  It's just the problem is you can easily start a circuit in 1950 just as fast as you can 2004.  It just seems like it would be a lot of programming hassle for the game to recognize that someone wasn't of age to be wrestling yet, and how does it determine when a wrestler can debut?  You'd almost need another field for wrestling debut so that you don't have a wrestler at age 10 in WWF. :)

The other problem is that you'd have to have TNM recognising some kind of calendar (IE you can't just stick "31st September 1966" in the name of your card and expect TNM to just figure it out) and then it would have to know how many shows you ran a week/month. What if you wanted to run an extra show one week? Yeah, you'd have to somehow have it know what date you ran each show on.

Like Snabbit said, if you don't want to be using guys before or after a certain date, just don't. TNM is, after all, a fantasy simulation program and is designed so that we can have stuff like Randy Orton vs Ultimate Warrior vs Bruno Sammartino vs Abraham Lincoln without having to worry about "realism", if we choose to. If you want to abide by certain rules of realism, as many do, just book your cards and don't break any rules. Hell, I've got a list of wrestlers with debut and retirement dates, along with a rough workrate for each year... at some point I might even start the circuits I put that together for.

On the other hand, if Olly said "actually I could make a plugin to do all that" then I'd say go for it.

I suppose what could really work would be something that you could edit per circuit that allows you to "turn off" certain wrestlers so they can't be used.  As it stands, no matter whether I try to use someone or not, if I pick a Mystery Wrestler, I might get one of the people I'm not supposed to be using.

hehe, yeah I used to do a "Mystery Wrestler v Mystery Wrestler" match at every card with the winner "winning" a contract.

After I got Lou Thesz vs Viscera I gave up on that idea ;)

Lou Thesz v. Viscera?

:o

That's a scary thought.  I doubt Thesz would give that piece of crap the time of day.

at least Viscera knows a wristlock from a wristwatch.

Lou Thesz was a legend! He was an innovator who has been credited with originating several moves including the STF, Thesz press, and even the power bomb. Thesz forgot more holds in his life then a lot of today's guys will ever know (excluding guys like Benoit, Angle, Eddie Guerrero, AJ Styles, and a few other mat based wrestlers)

With that said, I don't think even a young Lou could cut it this day in age. Wrestling has changed and you have to know much more than STFs, Thesz presses, and power bombs, and the few others moves Lou originated. There is no way you can compare Lou Thesz to anyone else in his time period (Sandor Szabo comes close), because he was unique and one of a kind during his hayday (sp)

If Ric Flair is old school, then I guess you can call Thesz, Even Older School. My father, may God rest his soul, was probably a bigger wrestling fan than I am right now, and he had vivid memories when it come to wrestling in the past. He especially like to tell me the story about working on a construction sight in Toronto with a future wrestler who become a top draw in Central Canada (Johnny Baron) was his name! He was in training when he was working with my old man.

He even had great memories of many shows at Maple Leaf Gardens and the old Montreal Forum that he attended while he was working in those two cities at various jobs.

Viscera is one guy I can honestly say is a worse worker than Big Show and A-Train both.

Thesz is a legend.  He was a better worker than 80% of today's so-called talent.
