More 50's 60's wrestlers

Blassie_fanPosted on 11/28/04 at 00:50:00

Hello All

Just downloaded TNM7 and it looks great!

Looking for more wrestlers from the Golden Age of Wrestling, the 50's and 60's.

There are far to many on my wishlist to mention them all here, but I would like to at least mention these for now:

Pat O'Connor
Wild Red Berry
Enrique Torres
Don Leo Jonathan
Wilbur Snyder and the like

you get the idea ...

Anyone know if these wrestlers are available somewhere or under consideration for future TNM releases

Any info would be greatly appreciated, and thanks

Bob Paulsen,

Hi Bob.

I am going to point you in the direction of the old TNM 6.2 downloads as they may be of some assistance, although they are most likely in need of some minor tweaking to work better within TNM7.

http://www.tnm7.com/exports

I have actually used a few of the old 6.2 exports for my Championship Wrestling circuit, and even had to create my own Paul Jones export.

Glad to have another Blassie fan in the crowd.  :)

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the reply and the lead to "older 6.2 exports"
I'll take a real close look at these. Who knows who I'll find.

You mentioned that they may need a little "tweaking" to work better with TNM7. Hope not to severe, I'm not to computer savy.

Yes sir, grew up watching Fred Blassie, seen many of his matches in person from the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles. Whoa Nelly!

Take care and thanks again Rick
Rick GarrardPosted on 11/28/04 at 03:07:28

The tweaking they need is usually pretty simple stuff like adding a body type to the export or a height or a weight or a hometown.  nothing too serious and really pretty simple stuff to add in the TNM ControlCenter.

Ah the great Olympic Auditorium... also home to the Fabulous LA T-Birds Roller Derby.

The WWE Blassie book was a great read.

And there may very well not be a lot of the older stars out there.  I know for one, I helped in making the Dick the Bruiser export that's out there, and I have recently made a #1 Paul Jones since none really ever existed from what I could tell.

Hi Rick,

Thank you for the great lead to more Export files. This will take some time for me to go through. A lot of files.

I should have no problem making the tweaks then, sounds easy enuf.

So far I have found Fritz Von Erich, Maddog Vachon, Moondog Lonnie Mayne and Les Thornton thanks to you.

Dick the Bruiser, what a heel. I'll be sure to put him in some matches, lets see how he does against Bret Hart or maybe Triple H. True story he did beat Blassie in LA and then Blassie beat him in his home town of Detroit to regain the Americas Title I believe.

I remember the name Paul Jones but don't remember anything else about him, he must have been on the east coast. I'll be sure to put him in the roster.

That's right too Rick, the LA T-Birds Roller Derby was also broadcast from the Olympic, with Dick Lane announcing. A lot of memories there. I am glad to have some of those memories stored away in my noggin.

Take care, and appreciate your help

I have a few older guys from the St. Louis Wrestling Club area that I created to run my NWA: St. Louis circuit.  I used information found on obsessedwithwrestling.com.  I'm sure there not super correct though
Rick GarrardPosted on 11/28/04 at 05:38:25

Wasn't it then that Bruiser decided to split his ties with the WWA-California and thusly became his OWN WWA World Champion for his own WWA based in Indianapolis?

:)  I grew up on Bruiser's WWA wrestling with David McLane (yes the same David McLane that owned and announced GLOW) from the Tyndall Armory in Indianapolis.  And just about every week the main event would end in the "midst of this great mat action", with no outcome EVER being decided on TV, mainly to get people to come to the local arenas for their spot shows.

Hello Americamamushi,

Thank you for replying. May I ask what wrestlers do you have?

I'll have to take a look at Obsessed With Wrestling's website, stumbled on it one time while on the web.

thanks and take care

Hi Rick,

Yes, I think you're right. The Dick the Bruiser left California in the early 60's and went back to Detroit area. My memory says around '62. He stayed back east for quite some time with the WWA there.

I think he wrestled out here again at the Cow Palace in San Fran. against Ray Stevens. don't remember tho if he won.

That's interesting trivia/history for you too that you grew up with wrestling in Indianapolis where David McLane later promoted the old GLOW shows. I haven't seen one of those shows in a long time.

OK, back to looking at the TNM 6.2 export files.

take care Rick

Hi Rick,

I found this information on Obsessed With Wrestling re: Dick the Bruiser, he was owner/operator of the NWA out of Indianapolis around 1976. I didn't see mention about his owning the WWA though.

The Bruiser beat F. Blassie on April  22, 1964 in LA. And again on May 27th. There's no mention of here, but being a die-hard Blassie fan I know that he did beat the Bruiser in Detroit to regain the title.

Just wanted to straighten these dates up.

Looking at the roster I had, I think i made the following...

Gene Kiniski
David Von Erich
Jerry Blackwell

I think those are the only ones I ended up having to make though.

If you have any interest in checking out the NWA: St. Louis Wrestling Club circuit I ran you can see it here: http://www.angelfire.com/mi4/americamamushi2/nwa.html

It'll probably never be updated again, but there are 38 cards total.  I just uploaded about 10 cards that I hadn't realized I never uploaded (so the roster/title page are probably incorrect now), but other than that, i'm sure it'll never be updated again.  (The last two cards don't even have match commentary at the end)
Blassie_fanPosted on 11/28/04 at 19:48:51

Hi Americamamushi

Thank you for that great lead to your "NWA St. Louis" web page. Seeing match results are very interesting to me. A lot of "what ifs". Good job!

I know already that I am going to enjoy TNM.

Jerry Blackwell is the only wrestler of the three that I haven't seen an export file for. I wouldn't mind having him myself.

I'll keep looking and asking around (Mr. Copp, the Forums) and maybe someone will come up with a few more wrestlers from the 50's-60's span. I hope so.
Take care,

Bob Paulsen

Well, if you awnt to download my export of him here it is...

(You'll have to save the target link)

Like I said before, I had to go on quite limited information so it may not be too terribly correct.
Blassie_fanPosted on 11/29/04 at 04:07:05

Thank you Americamamushi received Jerry Blackwell file and will enjoy using.

Hi Rick,

I want to thank you again for the download lead to the earlier version TNM Export files.

While I didn't see any wrestlers from the 50's/60's I did find a quite few that I would be happy to have and use.

You mentioned that you helped to make the Dick the Bruiser file did make #1 Paul Jones. This gets me to thinking.

It may be possible for me to do the same. (After I've played the game enuf to get a good feel for it). I have looked at the Edit/New Wrestler feature and it appears to be very user friendly.

The main thing for me would be to make any wrestler as accurately depicted to his real life performances as possible. Of course in wrestling anything can happen so that would leave a little room for my error.

Rick if I may ask, are there any secrets and/or good starting points that I should know before I try this? BTW I have put Dick the Bruiser in several matches thus far and his wrestling style and winning % are very accurate.

There are only a few wrestlers I have in mind now, and if I can depict the wrestlers accurately enuf I would like to make their Export files available for anyone in the TNM community who may like to have them as well.

Rick if have any suggestions or ideas on this it they would be greatly appreciated.

Most sincerly,
Bob Paulsen

That's cause Jose Fernandez, the guy that created it originally, tested it with a lot of the older guys he had at the time.  And then passed it on to me and I tested it in several (about 100 to be exact) matches to make sure it was ok.  Same goes with my Paul Jones export.  I tend to go for a more realisstic export than most export creators that will add a move to a moveset if a guy has used it only one time in his entire career, which is why I've made only a hand full of exports ever (about 20 and counting).

Always good to have more exports.  :)  Especially of the "legends".

Rick if have any suggestions or ideas on this it they would be greatly appreciated.
I would suggest just trying and experimenting with your exports.  That's how I ended up with what I feel to be a good Paul Jones.  The good thing with TNM is that there is NO wrong way of doing anything as far as building an export.  The trickiest part is getting the point values for the settings that require them just right.

What I suggest is that once you have your export created, make a "test circuit" where you can run just matches to test out new creations that you are doing.  And then running cards with the one wrestler taking on a variety of opponents on the them, as it is easier to check to see if he's doing certain things in the proper manner.

Hope you end up with some realy good exports.  :)

Hi Rick,

Appreciate your response and advice.

You bet I will be glad to take this project on, out of pure love and my keen interest in pro wrestling ... which began in my youth.

What a great place to grow up (Los Angeles in particular and then San Francisco) watching so many of the Wrestling heros from yesterday.

There's a lot of memories deep inside my noggin, now let's see if I can faithfully reproduce these memories into accurate Export files for the likes of Wilbur Snyder, Count Billy Varga, Enrique Torres to name a few.

Again thank you again Rick, I'll keep you and TNM members posted.
