A (Possibly) Useful Site

ThBeatnikPosted on 06/24/03 at 00:19:28

With the advent of TNM SE,  I'm keeping my fingers crossed in hopes that some of our export-making community will be moved to new heights. With that in mind, let me suggest, as a possible resource for inspiration,
http://www.angelfire.com/wrestling/cawthon777/

This site is trying to assemble match listings for the entire history of the WWWF/WWF/WWE. As you can see, they've gotten off to a great start- if you want to know who was wrestling at house shows in the weeks leading up to Wrestlemania 1, this is the place to go.

I would think that this might lead to a greater interest in historical exports, for those looking for a unique subject. Scanning the matches reminds me that, while the Hulk Hogans, Jimmy Snukas, and Paul Orndorffs were dominating the top of the cards, men like George Wells, Tony Garea, and the Moondogs were performing a vital role in midcard and lower spots. By no means legends, they were an important part of the wrestling world at the time.
So, if you're bored at the thought of creating the umpteenth iteration of The Rock and Team Angle, and are looking for something a tad more out of the way to simulate, hopefully the above site will be of use.

Regards,
The Beatnik

Hey, I've been asking for years for 70s and 80s exports and been met with pretty much silence. Not having the funds to go and buy loads of tapes (yet), I've done the best I can to build some of the folks from that era. I'd love to see a Tony Garea export, or Mr. Fuji, or Rene Goulet, or any number of WWF regulars from that era. I've got some versions of them I've cobbled together from tape reviews and such, but obviously they're not very accurate. The versions of some of these guys from the downloads section (S. D. Jones, Salvatore Bellomo, David Schultz et al.) were nearly useless as well, and have gone through some heavy updating.

Any interest in ever getting these guys into a semi-accurate, usable form?
ThBeatnikPosted on 06/24/03 at 18:47:01

Exactly!
I've tried the versions in the downloads sections, and they seem to have been made for earlier versions of TNM- most are missing things like weight, build, and charisma.
Since with TNMSE it will be possible, i seem to recall, to do a clean install, with no wrestlers in the starting database, it seems to me the time is perfect to build a 70s or 80s starting database, using just the performers available at the time.
But, like you, I have little access to tapes from that era, and my knowledge of moves and movesets is woefully inadequate to the task of properly representing any of these folks.

:o  Now that is what I call an informative website. I too have been/ am looking for many wrestlers from the 70's onward for a new circuit I am planning on running. It features only deceased wrestlers and most of the ones I have listed, I can't seem to find exports for. Some of the latest guys I have, but the older ones are dang near impossible !

Please......if anyone out there would like to do me a tremendous favor and try to create/find exports of the wrestlers I need.......send me and message or e-mail and I'll let you know who they are. Don't know what I can do in exchange, but I'll do what I can.   ;)

Thanks in advance !!!      :)

I could possibly make some from the tapes I have.  Only problem is usually the tapes involve guys involved in feuds and there isn't much scenitific wrestling, mostly brawling.  Guys that I can probably do a decent job with are Rip Oliver, Brett Sawyer, Bob Sweetan, Bobby Jaggers, Mr. Olympia, Bob Roop, The Grapplers, Batten Twins, maybe a couple of others.  What are you guys looking for, maybe I can try and do some.

John ProulxPosted on 06/25/03 at 05:43:13

Really, I'm looking for anybody from the late 70s-80s WWF who isn't in the database currently. Here's a partial list:

Sivi Afi
Salvatore Bellomo
Pete Doherty
Jose Estrada, Sr.
Mr. Fuji
Tony Garea
Rene Goulet
S. D. Jones
Tiger Chung Lee
The Moondogs
Jose Luis Rivera
Johnny Rodz
Buddy Rose
Pete Sanchez
Buzz Sawyer
David Schultz
Baron Mikel Scicluna
Jules Strongbow
Tonga Kid
Paul Vachon

Really, anyone from that era would be welcome :) .

That is a really cool site, but I see a problem. How would one go about making exports using that site? I mean, all that site is are results from past shows. There is no way to accurately come up with Work Rate, Push, Stamina, & Charisma. Also, what about the moves? Without actually watching tapes of every single wrestler, what moves would you give them?

Like I said, this site is really cool, but for making actual exports it's kinda worthless. Sorry.

Well, I hope that I didn't misrepresent the site as a resource for things like movesets, workrate, etc. Its value, I think, is as _inspiration_; the nostalgia of seeing long-forgotten cards might, hopefully, inspire a viewer to seek out old matches that could provide the information necessary to create an export from the era.

Texan-

I'd be interested in seeing what you can work up for Bob Roop, Bruiser Bob Sweetan, Brett Sawyer, Mr Olympia, and The Grapplers. Sounds like you have some good MidSouth/Central States tapes there?

Thanks!

Oh, that I totally agree with. Unfortunately I've never been one for making exports. I like mine to be as close to 100% accurate as possible and I know I would never be able to do that.
Masked_TexanPosted on 06/26/03 at 01:07:52

okay, I'll try to start on some of those guys this weekend.

John, if you're a registered user, you can go to the registered user section and then click the "download" link, you get can many of those WWF exports that aren't in the database.

John ProulxPosted on 06/26/03 at 02:00:00

Oh, I'm well aware that alleged exports for those folks exist. A good many of them look like they were done with that old random wrestler generator plugin ("Hmmm...I don't remember S. D. Jones doing all these top rope moves..." "Sivi Afi hits him with...a side step? WTF?") or, as Beatnik mentioned, were created in an earlier version and have a lot of missing attributes. That's why I called them useless a few posts up :P .
Masked_TexanPosted on 06/26/03 at 06:28:33

Ah, okay.  I didn't know those were so unrealistic.  I know for guys like David Von Erich, Buzz Sawyer, Spoiler, they were pretty good, though I spruced them up a little.  Wish I could help you with those WWF exports, but I don't have any of their tapes.
John ProulxPosted on 06/27/03 at 00:36:13

Thanks anyway, Texan. Good to know that at least the Buzz Sawyer export is in decent shape :) .
