An idea...

Oliver CoppPosted on 05/28/03 at 10:43:30

I've been getting tons of e-mail lately regarding export files made by myself.

One user made a suggestion which I'd like to discuss with everyone here. He suggested that I set up some kind of "members-only" section on the website which requires a recurring monthly fee of maybe $2.

For that fee, I'd have to guarantee that the entire WWE roster would be kept up to date and downloadable with changes being made weekly if a new move was performed on any of the TV shows.

I think the idea is excellent because it would help cover costs on one end and guarantee that accurate exports for WWE guys (and maybe others as well) would be released here.

What do you guys think of the idea ? Obviously, it won't be done unless there's significant interest.

Thanks !

It's an interesting idea, but I think the King of Old School is doing a decent job as it is.

Thanks!

Yeah, I think that the King Of Old School is doing a decent job too. Of course, if you want to send me some money - feel free...

First, this initially sounds like a great idea.  However, as stated, King of Old School is doing a pretty good job of keeping up as is.  And I've found him to be quite approachable with suggestions for improving his exports.

There is one problem with both KOOS's and official exports, however.  If you're using entrance music in a modern circuit, having to re-enter 75% of your roster's songs once a week or even once a month is a bit of a hassle, especially when you've got such a bloated list of wrestlers (1486 and counting!) that you can't listen to them in the wrestler edit screen to ensure you've got the right songs (Ah, error 7...  how do I love thee?  Let me count the ways!).

Would it be possible to wrangle the code a bit so that exports automatically contain a value that would default to whatever song/path is already listed when it replaces a pre-existing wrestler?  Or is this unfeasible?

Ollie,

I think what he is talking about is that.  When you update a current wrestler with a new export, the new version of the wrestler will not have theme music referenced in that field, when the old one did.  So it's a hassle to go back through and re-add their theme music.  He wants an option to not blank out the old versions theme so that after the update the wrestler still has their theme music referenced.  Does that help???

Exactly.

For example, the "Theme Music" field for Raven might contain the following path:

C:\Whatever\Whatever\Whatever\WWE-Raven.mp3

But after downloading and installing a new export of Raven, the "Theme Music" field is once again blank and must be manually directed to the song you wish to use.  While this is a minor hassle when a single wrestler is effected, it really sucks when 20 wrestlers out of 30 in a given circuit require this attention due to a WWE rostor export being downloaded.

So I'm wondering if it'd be possible to keep this one field from being overwritten.  Sorry it wasn't more clear from my earlier post.  I have a tendency to ramble a bit.

Wrote it down, thanks !

No problem.  Thank you for being so willing to listen to our feedback and to continue improving TNM even after it's been out for years.

It's about time for a fresh layer of paint, so to speak. I'm currently working on a new version (not a build) of TNM 7 where I'll incorporate as many suggestions from the thread on top in the Discussion forum as possible. And your suggestion with the theme music will also be implemented - that's a guarantee.

you know how when you start up tnm it says looking for the latest info from the website.

does that do anything cause if it doesnt why not have something pop up on the thing where it asks you after checking the site if you want to do the upgrades like plugins or exports or whatever.

just an idea.

If you're using Build 6D or E, it won't be there anymore. The "looking for updates" thing didn't work too well on W2K and XP.
