WWF CIRCUIT

JANUARY 1st 1990

In a huge shock to the whole of the wrestling industry, billionaire Ian Clark bought the rights to the WWF empire from Vince McMahon.  Immediately installing himself as WWF Chairman and Head Booker, Clark also announced that all titles would be vacated with immediate effect, signalling the beginning of a new era for the WWF, in which only the best would rise to the top and title shots would need to be earned the hard way, in the ring.

There would be 5 pay per views each year, with the King of the Ring tournament becoming an official pay per view event each June, to add to the existing 4 pay per view events currently held each year in the WWF.  Perhaps the biggest shock however was Clark's announcement that Saturday Nights Main Event would become a weekly TV show, and it would be the only TV show on the WWF, thus ending the era of the "jobber"!

At the next pay per view, Royal Rumble 1990, the WWF World Heavyweight Title would be decided in a 25 man Royal Rumble match.  The InterContinental Title would be decided by a 16 man tournament (starting at the first SNME) and last but not least the WWF World Tag Team Titles would be contested in an 8 team tournament, beginning at the Royal Rumble.  Finally, Clark announced the introduction in a couple of months of the new WWF Television Title.

The starting roster for the "new" WWF looks like this:

Hulk Hogan
The Ultimate Warrior
Dusty Rhodes
Roddy Piper
Jake Roberts
Brutus Beefcake
Tito Santana
Hercules
Ronnie Garvin
Jimmy Snuka
Red Rooster

News:

Just a matter of days are being stripped of the WWF World Heavyweight Title, when the new WWF era was created, Hulk Hogan has managed to reach the summit again, this time by outlasting 24 other wrestlers to endure after an enthralling Royal Rumble match. In related news, WWF Chairman Ian Clark announced that the main event for the first weekly Saturday Nights Main Event on January 27th will feature a 4 corners No.1 contenders match between the 4 men (Hogan aside) that put on the best show in the Rumble match. Those four men are "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, Jake "Snake" Roberts, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan and "Macho Man" Randy Savage! The winner of the match will face Hulk Hogan in the main event of Wrestlemania VI in March!!

In other news, there were no real surprises in the WWF World Tag Team Titles Tournament with Demolition, The Powers of Pain, The Colossal Connection and The Hart Foundation progressing to the semi finals. The first semi final match will take place on the first SNME.

Finally, Chairman Clark announced that the first two matches in the InterContinental Title Tournament will also take place at the first SNME.

I like this idea and results look cool so far!

Are you booking things or letting TNM decide?

My friend and I are working on a nostalgic fed also but not strictly 1990 era wrestlers..

ianclarkPosted on 03/24/11 at 20:17:04

Thanks, much appreciated.

At the moment (although early days), I am not booking and will see how that goes with storylines etc.

I have added more detail this time as before I have always started and then began to rush things or lost track of where I was going.  I am hoping that by adding more detail it will be easier for me to keep going properly!

If nothing was booked, then cool start to your battle royal then with the Twin Towers being 1 and 2 and Dusty being 3rd... Some real history there!
ianclarkPosted on 03/24/11 at 20:40:34

Yeah, I got very lucky with the order of the Rumble, the Twin Towers to start and most of the top guys in at the end, which was good with the title on the line!

News:

Macho Man Randy Savage managed to outlast 3 tough opponents (with some help from Sensational Sherri) to land himself a title shot at Wrestlemania VI against Hulk Hogan, in a rematch from last year's Wrestlemania!!  Especially unhappy was Jake "Snake" Roberts who actually gained the first two pinfalls, but due to the stipulations of this No.1 Contenders match, he lost when Savage managed to get the 1-2-3 following his patented Flying Elbow!

The Powers of Pain are not happy with their manager Mr Fuji!  Rumours of dissention carried on long into the night after the Devious One cost The Barbarian and Warlord a shot at the Tag Team titles by interfering in their tournament semi final match with Demolition.  Needless to say Ax and Smash were very relieved it was as short match and they will now wait to see who wins next week between The Hart Foundation and The Colossal Connection, to know who they face for the titles!

Meanwhile, in the InterContinental Title Tournament Rick Martel managed to see off "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka and The Ultimate Warrior defeated Dino Bravo via DQ, but he paid a price for his victory as he suffered two Earthquake splashes in the middle of the ring and had to be helped to the back, much to the delight of Bravo, Earthquake and their manager Jimmy Hart.

Next week's SNME will see the other Tag Team Title tourney semi final, two more first round matches in the InterContinental Title tournament as well as the debut of a new tag team!!!

News:

A sensational night of action saw the amazing sight of Andre the Giant standing in the centre of the ring being cheered by the fans!!  After seeing his team of the Colossal Connection defeated by The Hart Foundation, manager Bobby "The Brain" Heenan decided it was the Giant's fault and proceeded to berate him in the ring after the match, eventually slapping Andre.  This was a huge mistake as the Giant  tossed Heenan from the ring before doing the same to Haku, who had tried to come to his manager's rescue.  As the other Heenan family member, "Ravishing" Rick Rude, rushed to ringside to assist his comrades, Andre stood in the ring enjoying the acclaim of the fans for the first time in nearly 3 years.

The InterContinental Title tournament continued with victories for the Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase, with some assistance from his bodyguard Virgil, followed by a DQ victory for the "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes over Greg "Hammer" Valentine, after Valentine's buddy Honky Tonk Man got involved in the match, by breaking up a certain 1-2-3  for Rhodes.

Finally, in the first match of the evening Mr Fuji led his new tag team to the ring.  The Orient Express looked very impressive in their victory over the hastily assembled team of the Red Rooster and Koko B.Ware, but with Fuji clearly focussing on his new team from the his homeland, questions will be asked as to where this leaves The Powers of Pain, who are already not very happy with their manager, for costing them a Tag Team Title shot!

Next week's SNME should be a cracker with the following matches scheduled:

News:

Demolition are the new WWF World Tag Team Champions!  After a tough tournament and a gruelling final against Bret Hart and Jim Niedhart, they are once again the titleholders.  The Hart Foundation are already talking about a rematch but they may have to wait their turn as in the next few weeks, there will be a Tag Team Battle Royal to determine the No.1 contenders.

The InterContinental title tournament continued, but not without controversy as both Brutus "Barber" Beefcake and Bad News Brown were eliminated from the tourney when they were more intent on fighting each other all over the arena, forcing the referee to count them both out of both the match and the tournament.  Later in the night the impressive Mr Perfect easily defeated "Rugged" Ronnie Garvin to progress.

In the first match of the night an increasing disgruntled Hercules was overwhelmed by the Earthquake, albeit with some help from his cohorts Dino Bravo and manager Jimmy Hart.  Hercules is clearly becoming disillusioned as his losing streak shows no sign of ending.

News:

In a special, rare handicap match new fan favourite Andre the Giant was cheered throughout his victory over both of The Bolsheviks!

The final two places in the 2nd round of the InterContinental Title tournament were decided, although one of those places will be a bye as for the 2nd week running, two competitors were more intent on damaging each other rather than winning the title as Roddy Piper and Rick Rude re-ignited their feud, costing them both a place in the tourney.  One man who did progress however was "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, who won by a DQ finish over the Honky Tonk Man after both Greg Valentine and Jimmy Hart couldn't resist getting involved.

Finally, Jake Roberts was not a happy man, as the Big Boss Man cracked him over the head with his nightstick, leaving him easy prey for Akeem, and the "African Dream" took full advantage to pick up the victory.  The "Snake" is not normally a man to cross and the Twin Towers will need to watch their back in future.

More matches have been announced for Wrestlemania VI as Andre the Giant will take on his former tag team partner, Haku!  Also Brutus Beefcake faces Bad News Brown and just announced Roddy Piper will battle "Ravishing" Rick Rude!!

News:

The semi final line up for the InterContinental title tournament as Ted DiBiase easily progressed against "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan and Dusty Rhodes managed to overcome "Model" Rick Martel in the only 2nd round matches required due to Ultimate Warrior and Mr Perfect receiving byes following the first round.

Mr Fuji's behaviour continues to astound and infuriate The Barbarian and The Warlord as his actions (together with his other team The Orient Express) caused The Powers of Pain to almost lose their match to The Rockers. In the end it was Fuji attacking The Barbarian that led to the DQ decision. What is the devious one thinking and why is he trying to unsettle his own tag team?

The final match of the night was a 20 man Battle Royal. The match got underway under strange circumstances as Ronnie Garvin was attacked before the match by Earthquake and Dino Bravo, meaning he was unable to take his place in the match. Conveniently, Earthquake made his way to the ring instead! It didn't help him however, as the Battle Royal was won by Andre the Giant!
