Eric Bischoff Purchases World Championship Wrestling Name

Further details have emerged over the weekend of the purchase of the rights to the World Championship Wrestling name and video library by a group fronted by Eric Bischoff. Although the sale by Ted Turner did not include the TNT and TBS television timeslots, it is understood that MTV swiftly stepped in to offer the new WCW a primetime slot on Monday night on an eight week trial basis, with the option of an extension should the re-launch be a success.

With Monday Nitro scheduled to return to air on Monday, May 7th on MTV, Bischoff is tentatively scheduling a Pay-Per-View re-launch of the company the previous night, May 6th. The Big Bang is set to follow on from where the Thunder season finale left off on March 21st.

The new Bischoff-led consortium is currently in the process of negotiating the buy-out of the contracts of many WCW superstars who are still owned by Ted Turner. As things stand, confirmed signings to the new WCW roster include: Scott Steiner [WCW Heavyweight Champion], Booker T [United States Champion], Ric Flair, Sting, Shane Helms [Cruiserweight Champion], Rey Mysterio Jr, Jeff Jarrett, Billy Kidman, Diamond Dallas Page, Konnan, Buff Bagwell, Chris Kanyon, Disco Inferno, Lance Storm, Mike Awesome and Mike Sanders.

Further announcements are expected over the coming days.

Huge news...Eric Bischoff has announced that the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, currently in the possession of "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner, will be defended at The Big Bang on May 6th! However, we do not know the identity of the challenger just yet. Rumours are rife that one of the former WCW Champions that Bischoff invited to the pay-per-view has stepped up to the plate!

We can also exclusively reveal two title matches that have been signed for the show. "Sugar" Shane Helms will defend his Cruiserweight Title against the undefeated Jason Jett, while the Cruiserweight Tag Team Titles will be on the line as Kid Romeo and Elix Skipper take on challengers Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr.!

Keep checking the new WCW website for regular news and updates on The Big Bang pay-per-view.

WCW World Tag Team Champions Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo will defend their gold against Team Canada members Lance Storm and Mike Awesome. WCW World Heavyweight Champion "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner and the leader of the Magnificent Seven, "Nature Boy" Ric Flair, are irate that with just four days to go until The Big Bang pay-per-view, Steiner still has not been informed who he will be defending his title against. Steiner and Flair have been phoning Eric Bischoff's office constantly demanding answers, but they have yet to speak to the man in charge. Flair has stressed that Steiner needs time to prepare for his opponent, but it appears that he'll find out who he'll be wrestling the same time the rest of us do - live at The Big Bang on May 6th!

WCW THE BIG BANG
May 6th, 2001
MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, NV
Your commentators are Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Jerry "The King" Lawler.

Less than six weeks ago World Championship Wrestling was thrown into turmoil when AOL Time Warner broadcast the final editions of Monday Nitro and Thunder. A golden era in professional wrestling had come to an end.

The death of WCW left legions of wrestling fans in shock and with no alternative but to turn to Vince McMahon's WWF. However, one man was determined not to let WCW rest. He had a vision. As impossible as it seemed, Eric Bischoff wanted to resurrect World Championship Wrestling. With the backing of his consortium, Eric Bischoff purchased the WCW name and video library from AOL Time Warner. No sooner had the epitaph for WCW been written than Eric Bischoff was planning its re-birth. The creation of the new WCW was underway and tonight - LIVE on pay-per-view! - WCW is re-born. The wrestling world is about to be shaken to its very foundation once again as The Big Bang re-creates World Championship Wrestling!

The camera panned around a rabid audience in the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, who had all come to witness the re-birth of an American wrestling institution. We were then taken down to ringside where Tony Schiavone and Mike Tenay were positioned to welcome us to WCW's Big Bang. As Schiavone and Tenay ran down tonight's card, they were interrupted by the regal strains of "The Great Gate of Kiev". Jerry "The King" Lawler then made his way out from the back and joined Schiavone and Tenay at ringside! The fans were in disbelief as Lawler revealed that he was part of the new WCW and was here to help call the action tonight! A loud "Jerry!" chant started as the re-birth of WCW certainly starts with a bang!

Eric Bischoff made his way down to the ring to a standing ovation from the capacity crowd. Bischoff was greeted with a chorus of "Thank you Eric!" as he entered the ring. Bischoff took the mike and said that six weeks ago, they had us dead and buried. But now, WCW is back against all the odds and back on pay-per-view where we belong!! The crowd popped, but their joy turned to fury as the Magnificent Seven stable - Road Warrior Animal, Rick Steiner, Lex Luger, Buff Bagwell, Jeff Jarrett, the centrepiece of the stable and WCW Champion "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner and their leader Ric Flair - headed to the squared circle.

The seven men intimidated Eric Bischoff, before Ric Flair took the microphone to loud boos from the crowd. Flair immediately laid out the "fatboy" comments, before calling his stable the greatest collection of wrestlers in the history of the business. As the fans jeered, Flair said there was nothing they could do about it. The Nature Boy said the Magnificent Seven are role models and people the crowd should idolize. Scott Steiner then took the mike and got in Bischoff's face, demanding to know who he was facing tonight. Steiner talked about all the people he's put in the hospital - Sting, Kevin Nash, Booker T, Diamond Dallas Page, Sid Vicious and Goldberg - and claimed there is nobody left for him to face. Steiner said he would go down in history as the greatest WCW champion of all time.

Eric Bischoff reminded Scott Steiner that he had invited all former WCW Champions to the Big Bang tonight. Bischoff then directed Steiner to look to the entrance ramp, where Kevin Nash, Diamond Dallas Page, Booker T and Sting all appeared one by one! The fans were going crazy as Bischoff announced he had booked a fatal four way match for tonight featuring these four men, with the winner facing Steiner for the WCW Title in the main event of the pay-per-view! Steiner and the rest of his stablemates were beside themselves as Bischoff added that for the title match, the rest of the Magnificent Seven were barred from ringside! Bischoff rolled out of the ring and out of dodge as Nash, DDP, Booker and Sting looked on with anticipation.

Triangle Match:
Filthy Animals (Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr.) defeated
Jung Dragons (Kaz Hayashi and Yang) and
Kid Romeo and Elix Skipper when Kidman pinned Yang with the
Kid Krusher in 0:15:01.
Rating: *** 1/4
(Filthy Animals won the WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship.)
[Tygress and Leia Meow interfered against Elix Skipper.]
[Leia Meow interfered against Rey Mysterio Jr..]
[Leia Meow interfered against Billy Kidman.]

The Filthy Animals captured the Cruiserweight Tag Team Titles tonight from the team that defeated them in the finals of the tournament at Greed back in March, Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo. This was a solid opener to the show that showcased the tremendous talent of the WCW Cruiserweight division. Romeo and Skipper were furious after the bout that they had lost the titles without being pinned, as Kidman defeated Yang with the Kid Krusher to take the match and the gold.

"The Mecca of Manhood" Shawn Stasiak and Stacy Keibler came down to the ring, handing out signed photos of Stasiak to the crowd. Stasiak said that only a man like him can have a woman like Stacy, who kissed him on the cheek. Stasiak called the fans "fat, tattooed, bald, toothless losers". Stasiak extended an open challenge to anybody in the locker room, which was answered by Konnan.

Shawn Stasiak pinned Konnan with the Hangman's Neckbreaker in 0:09:46.
Rating: ** 1/4
[Stacy Keibler interfered against Konnan.]

Shawn Stasiak picked up the win here when he distracted the official and Stacy blinded Konnan with her hairspray. Stasiak then dropped Konnan with a neckbreaker for the pinfall.

After the match, Stacy danced in the middle of the ring while Stasiak put an autographed picture on Konnan.

Number-One-Contenders-Four Corners Match:
Diamond Dallas Page defeated Booker T, Kevin Nash and Sting when Page pinned
Nash with the Diamond Cutter in 0:12:09.
Rating: ** 1/2

This four way battle featured four men who all would love to get their hands on Scott Steiner, but in the end it was Diamond Dallas Page who secured a shot at the champion later tonight. The final seconds of the contest saw Booker drop Sting with the scissor kick, before Nash grabbed Booker and planted him with the Jackknife. However, as Nash went down for the pin, DDP drilled him with the Diamond Cutter for the win.

Sting and Booker congratulated DDP after the match and wished him luck for his match with Scott Steiner. Kevin Nash then reluctantly shook Page's hand, clearly miffed that his InSiders tag team partner had been the man that had pinned him.

Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo defeated
Team Canada (Lance Storm and Mike Awesome) when O'Haire pinned Awesome with the
Seanton Bomb in 0:14:20.
Rating: *** 1/4
(Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo retained the WCW World Tag Team Championship.)

Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo continue to impress as Tag Team Champions with a win over the formidable duo of Lance Storm and Mike Awesome here tonight at The Big Bang. Palumbo managed to duck Storm's superkick and then floored the leader of Team Canada with the Jungle Kick, setting up Storm for the match-winning Seanton Bomb.

Backstage in his office, Eric Bischoff got off the phone and revealed that he'd just closed the deal to sign the hottest free agent in professional wrestling! Bischoff said that the only way to find out who he's signed is to tune in to Monday Nitro live on MTV tomorrow night!!!

Shane Helms pinned Jason Jett with the Vertebreaker in 0:13:05.
Rating: ****
(Shane Helms retained the WCW Cruiserweight Championship.)

"Sugar" Shane Helms and Jason Jett earned match of the night honours as they waged war over the Cruiserweight Title. Helms handed Jett his first loss in WCW when he escaped the Crash Landing and spiked Jett with the Vertebreaker.

After the match, the two men shook hands. When Shane Helms went to leave, Jason Jett pulled him back in and warned Helms that the Cruiserweight Title was coming to him.

Mike Tenay received word that a tournament to determine the number one contender to the Cruiserweight Title would commence tomorrow night on Nitro!

The Magnificent Seven (Buff Bagwell, Jeff Jarrett, Lex Luger, Rick Steiner and
Road Warrior Animal) defeated KroniK (Brian Adams and Bryan Clark), Dustin Rhodes,
Ernest Miller and Hugh Morrus when Jarrett pinned D. Rhodes after a piledriver
in 0:16:33.
Rating: 1/2*

Referee Charles Robinson really struggled to keep control of this ten man tag team bout which was an ugly brawl from start to finish. Jeff Jarrett finally ended it when he blasted Dustin Rhodes with a piledriver.

The Magnificent Seven were not finished though. They ganged up on Dustin Rhodes and Jeff Jarrett instructed Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell to hold Rhodes in position while Jarrett took aim with his acoustic guitar. However, from through the crowd came the man known as the Road Dogg in the WWF!! Road Dogg hit the ring wielding a steel chair and made the save for Rhodes, clearing the ring! The fans were going crazy as Jarrett backed up the aisle, looking like he had just seen a ghost!

Scott Steiner defeated Diamond Dallas Page when Page passed out in the Steiner Recliner in
0:17:00.
Rating: ** 3/4
(Scott Steiner retained the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.)
[Chris Kanyon interfered against Diamond Dallas Page.]

With the Magnificent Seven barred from ringside, the WCW fans were expecting a title change in the main event of The Big Bang. However, they were to go home disappointed. Diamond Dallas Page took the fight to Scott Steiner from the opening bell. Steiner turned the tide with an overhead belly-to-belly suplex on the arena floor. Page bled when Big Poppa Pump shoved him into the ringpost to counter DDP's Diamond Cutter attempt on the floor. Referee Nick Patrick was bumped when Page avoided a Steinerline and Patrick took the blow. Steiner looked to put Page away with a double underhook suplex from the top rope, but Page blocked it and set up for a Diamond Cutter from the top turnbuckle!! Before he could complete the move though, Chris Kanyon ran out and shoved DDP off the top rope! Page fell to ringside and hit the railing hard, knocking himself out! As Kanyon revived the ref, Steiner dragged Page back into the ring and locked on the Steiner Recliner. Nick Patrick could clearly see that Page was unconscious and stopped the match, so Steiner retains!

As a smirking Chris Kanyon made his exit through the crowd, Scott Steiner celebrated retaining the championship as the crowd booed him out of the building. Steiner took the mike and said that he is the man in WCW and nobody is man enough to knock him off top. Suddenly, fireworks exploded at the entrance way and that familiar instrumental music began to boom through the arena! Bill Goldberg emerged from the pyro, sending the fans into raptures!! Goldberg started to walk down to the ring towards a startled Scott Steiner as the screen faded to black!!

World Championship Wrestling is back and back with a bang...a Big Bang in fact! From the WCW debuts of Jerry Lawler and Brian James, to new Cruiserweight Tag Team Champions being crowned, to a pulsating main event between Page and Scott Steiner over the WCW Championship and the momentous return of Bill Goldberg, this night may go down as the greatest night in the history of our sport.

Diamond Dallas Page was not seriously injured in tonight's main event. When we tried to grab a word with him after the show, he was only interested in one thing - getting revenge on Chris Kanyon. The feud between these two men has raged on for almost a year and shows no signs of letting up. On another note, Eric Bischoff was unhappy at how tonight's main event ended and has signed a rematch for tomorrow night on Nitro!

Also on Nitro, we will show you footage of what went down between Goldberg and Scott Steiner when the pay-per-view went off air. We expect to hear from Da Man on tomorrow night's show as he prepares to declare war on the Magnificent Seven faction. We'll also bring you an interview with Brian James where he'll discuss his reasons for coming to WCW, Eric Bischoff reveals the identity of the hottest free agent in professional wrestling that he has signed, plus the Cruiserweight Title number one contenders tournament will begin! WCW Monday Nitro
May 7th, 2001
MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, NV
Your commentators are Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Jerry "The King" Lawler.

The first ever edition of Monday Nitro on MTV began with footage from the closing moments of last night's Big Bang pay-per-view, when Bill Goldberg made his shocking return to WCW to confront the World Champion Scott Steiner. The pay-per-view feed cut off last night with Goldberg marching to the ring and what the viewers did not see the previous evening was shown here. Goldberg got into the ring and went nose-to-nose with Steiner, before the ring was flooded with officials and road agents trying to separate the two men and prevent them from killing each other!

Goldberg made his way out to the ring to open the show. He took the mike and said he came back to WCW for two reasons - number one, destroy the Magnificent Seven and number two, win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. The crowd popped and erupted into a "Goldberg!" chant.

Those comments brought out the Magnificent Seven stable, led by an irate Ric Flair. The Nature Boy had his jacket off and was ready to fight, but he was held back by his stablemates. WCW Champion Scott Steiner complained about the crowd booing him and ran down some local sports teams. He told everyone to stand up and kiss his ass. Big Poppa Pump addressed Goldberg, saying that he destroyed him and ran him out of wrestling before and he would do it again. As Goldberg dared Steiner to come down to the ring and face him, he was attacked from behind by Road Warrior Animal, who had sneaked in through the crowd! A referee hit the ring and we had an impromptu singles bout on our hands!

Bill Goldberg pinned Road Warrior Animal with the Jackhammer in 0:00:42.
Rating: 3/4*

Goldberg made a huge statement here, destroying Animal in less than a minute. After he almost speared Animal out of his boots, Goldberg drove him down to the mat with the Jackhammer and the pinfall was academic.

After the match, Goldberg obliterated Animal with a second Jackhammer and said that was one down, six to go. Scott Steiner, who had watched everything from the ramp, wanted to take Goldberg right there and then. However, Ric Flair and the rest of the Magnificent Seven held him back, reminding him that he had a title defence against Diamond Dallas Page in the main event of the show.

Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo defeated Air Raid (Air Paris and AJ Styles) when
Skipper pinned Paris with the Play of the Day in 0:09:00.
Rating: *** 1/2

Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo were victorious tonight but they were pushed all the way by the young and hungry duo of Air Raid. After the match, Skipper and Romeo signalled that they are coming after the Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship, the titles they claim that they never lost.

Kid Romeo and Elix Skipper quickly bailed when they saw The Wall storming down to the ring with bad intentions in mind! Air Raid, who were still nursing their wounds in the ring, were to be his victims as he floored AJ Styles with a big boot and planted Air Paris with a spinebuster! The Wall slid a table into the ring and set it up before draping Styles over it. Wall then picked up Air Paris by the throat and drove him through both the table and AJ Styles with a nasty choke slam!!

[Cruiserweight Title Number One Contenders Tournament - First Round]:
Jason Jett pinned Cash with the Crash Landing in 0:09:52.
Rating: *** 1/2

Jason Jett advances to the semi-finals of this eight man tournament with a win over his nemesis Cash. These two are no strangers to one another, having crossed paths countless times in ECW.

An excited Eric Bischoff made his way down to the ring for a huge announcement. He revealed that he had signed the hottest free agent in professional wrestling today and arguably the most uniquely gifted athlete ever to compete inside the squared circle. Bischoff said that this man can do things that no other wrestler can do, has done or ever will do. Bischoff told the fans that watching this man wrestle is well worth the price of their ticket and introduced none other than..."The Whole F'N Show" ROB VAN DAM!!!

Rob Van Dam made his way out to the ring to a thunderous ovation, stood on the ropes and pointed to himself while the fans chanted, "R-V-D!" Van Dam shook hands with Eric Bischoff and revealed how happy he was to be a part of WCW. RVD promised to show the WCW fans all around the world why he is known as "Mr. Monday Night". Before Van Dam could continue, he was interrupted by Shawn Stasiak and Stacy Keibler. Stasiak said that he'd heard all the stories about how impressive Rob Van Dam is, but not that he'd seen him in person, Stasiak said that he was distinctly unimpressed. The Mecca of Manhood proclaimed himself to be the shining light of WCW and doubted that Van Dam was even at a level to look him in the eye! Stasiak called himself a winner, a man whose very insides are gold plated. Van Dam began to laugh, which led to Stasiak punching him and then attacking RVD! Stasiak went for a kick, but Van Dam caught his foot and floored him with a windmill kick. RVD then drilled Stasiak with the Rolling Thunder, before setting him up for the Five Star Frog Splash! Before he could complete the move however, Stacy dragged Stasiak out of the ring, much to the chagrin of the fans in attendance. Stacy helped the dazed Stasiak back up the ramp as RVD continued to work the crowd.

Booker T pinned Lance Storm with the Book End in 0:14:11.
Rating: ***
(Booker T retained the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship.)

Lance Storm had Booker T trapped in the Canadian Maple Leaf on three separate occasions in this bout, but each time the US Champion was able to escape or make the ropes. Mike Awesome tried to get involved, but Booker shoved Storm into him and then scored with the Book End to retain his title.

Backstage, Gene Okerlund interviewed Diamond Dallas Page. Page said that his feud with Kanyon had dragged on long enough and it was time to put an end to it. DDP challenged Kanyon to a match at Slamboree on June 17th. Page vowed to take the WCW Title from Scott Steiner tonight and become a four time World Heavyweight Champion. Then, Page said, he would take care of Kanyon once and for all.

[Cruiserweight Title Number One Contenders Tournament - First Round]:
Jerry Lynn pinned Shannon Moore with the Cradle Piledriver in 0:09:12.
Rating: *** 1/2

Jerry Lynn redebuted in WCW tonight and his return was very successful as he advanced in the tournament at the expense of Shannon Moore. Lynn's Gotch-style piledriver was enough to finish off Moore.

Footage was shown of the artist formerly known as Road Dogg's shock appearance at The Big Bang the previous night, where he attacked Jeff Jarrett. Gene Okerlund then interviewed the former Road Dogg backstage. After proclaiming, "Oh You Didn't Know?", he introduced himself as Jesse James Armstrong. Armstrong said that six years ago a man called the Roadie walked out of the WWF with who he thought was his friend, Jeff Jarrett. However, Jarrett then turned his back on him and left him. Armstrong said that now it's payback time, and payback's a bitch. Armstrong told Okerlund to step back as he wasn't done..."It's me, it's me, it's D-O-...oh no, I'll get in trouble. Get it? Got it? Good!" Jesse James Armstrong is here!

Totally Buff (Buff Bagwell and Lex Luger) defeated
The Mamalukes (Big Vito and Johnny the Bull) when Bagwell pinned Johnny the Bull
after a dropkick in 0:08:14.
Rating: 1/2*

The team of Totally Buff secured a big win over The Mamalukes tonight on Nitro when Lex Luger snapped Johnny the Bull's neck off the top rope and Buff Bagwell followed up with a dropkick.

After the bout, Lex Luger took the mike and warned WCW World Tag Team Champions Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo that Totally Buff are coming for their titles, in order to bring more gold to the Magnificent Seven.

WCW World Heavyweight Champion Scott Steiner made his way out to the ring for the main event. Big Poppa Pump took some shots at his scheduled opponent, Diamond Dallas Page, saying that Page will always be white trash. Steiner vowed to send DDP back to the bush leagues where he belongs. Page made his way out from the back to a loud ovation from the crowd, but suddenly he was blindsided by Chris Kanyon who dropped him with a vicious Kanyon Kutter onto the steel entrance ramp!! For the second night in succession, Diamond Dallas Page was out cold, courtesy of Kanyon. Referees and road agents dragged the crazed Kanyon to the back, while EMTs tended to Page. Page was then stretchered to the back for medical attention.

A beaming Scott Steiner took the mike and gloated, claiming that this was the best thing that could have happened to DDP tonight, especially as the alternative was getting his ass kicked by the Big Bad Booty Daddy. As Steiner bragged that nobody was capable of taking the WCW World Heavyweight Title away from him, the lights in the arena began to flicker as Sting descended down from the rafters to a thunderous response!! Sting dropped down into the ring as Steiner and Midajah looked on, stunned. Sting took his baseball bat and pointed it at Big Poppa Pump first, then at the WCW Title belt resting on Steiner's shoulder. The crowd was going crazy! Steiner shook his head, then seized the lead pipe from Midajah and charged at Sting. Sting was ready for him though and doubled him over with a bat shot to the gut, before knocking Steiner to the canvas after cracking him across the back with the bat! Midajah went for Sting with the belt, but Sting easily disarmed her and drilled her with the Scorpion Death Drop to a deafening pop!! As Nitro drew to a close, Sting took the title belt and raised it aloft in triumph, delighting the fans in attendance!

Card rating: ** 1/2

Circuit information:
The first Nitro of the new WCW era was a return to form, with surprise appearances, shocking returns and unpredictable action!

We have just received word that Chris Kanyon has accepted Diamond Dallas Page's challenge to a match to finish the feud between these two former best friends at Slamboree. But this was not before Kanyon knocked Page unconscious with a Kanyon Kutter on the ramp, ruling DDP out of his World Title Match with Scott Steiner tonight. Kanyon is booked for next week's show and you can bet DDP will be in the house as well.

Scott Steiner did not have such an easy night though, as he was confronted by Sting and laid out with two stiff shots from Sting's omnipresent black baseball bat. Sting also dropped Midajah with a Scorpion Death Drop for good measure. Sting made his intentions to recapture the WCW Title very clear after the assault. Backstage after the show, Big Poppa Pump was in a fit of apoplexy, furious that somebody had the gall to put their hands on his freak.

Bill Goldberg's mission to take out the Magnificent Seven one-by-one began tonight, handing a crushing loss to Road Warrior Animal. Goldberg is determined to lay waste to the stable and culminate by taking the WCW Championship from Scott Steiner. Steiner certainly is a marked man in World Championship Wrestling.

Jesse James Armstrong explained tonight that he is in WCW looking to extract revenge from Jeff Jarrett. Armstrong is bitter about the fact that Jarrett deserted him several years ago and Armstrong has waited a long time to hand the Chosen One his comeuppance.

WCW officials are delighted about the signing of Rob Van Dam to the roster and will be excited to see him in action next week on Nitro. However, "The Mecca of Manhood" Shawn Stasiak was less than impressed with "Mr. Monday Night" - I doubt we have seen the last of this situation.

The quest to determine the number one contender to Shane Helms' Cruiserweight Title began in earnest tonight. Jason Jett defeated Cash in a tremendous high-flying contest to advance to the semi-finals. Jett was frustrated that he couldn't get the job done against Helms last night at The Big Bang and is determined to secure another opportunity to win the gold. In the other first round match tonight, Jerry Lynn, a name synonymous with quality wrestling, returned to WCW (not under a mask this time) and defeated Shannon Moore in another thrilling battle. The tournament continues next week with more world class cruiserweight action guaranteed!

In addition to that, on next week's show Jeff Jarrett will battle Shane Helms in a non-title match, plus much, much more!! Make sure you join us next week live on MTV!! WCW...100% Wrestling!

WCW Monday Nitro
May 14th, 2001
MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, NV
Your commentators are Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Jerry "The King" Lawler.

This week's edition of Monday Nitro began with a video package documenting the shocking finish to last week's show, where Scott Steiner was scheduled to defend the World Championship against Diamond Dallas Page in the main event. However, Chris Kanyon took out DDP before the bout began with a Kanyon Kutter on the ramp. Following that, Sting descended from the rafters and confronted Big Poppa Pump. Sting floored Steiner with two shots from his baseball bat and laid out Midajah with the Scorpion Death Drop!

Tony Schiavone revealed that Chris Kanyon will be in action tonight and we could also expect some sort of announcement regarding the Scott Steiner-Sting situation. Schiavone added that on tonight's show, Rob Van Dam will make his WCW in-ring re-debut, the tournament to crown the number one contender to the Cruiserweight Title continues and in the main event, "The Chosen One" Jeff Jarrett will face WCW Cruiserweight Champion "Sugar" Shane Helms in a non-title match.

[Cruiserweight Title Number One Contenders Tournament - First Round]:
Chavo Guerrero Jr. pinned Lash LeRoux with the Brain Buster in 0:07:19.
Rating: ** 1/2

Chavo Guerrero Jr. had little trouble putting away "The Ragin' Cajun" Lash LeRoux with the brain buster tonight in the cruiserweight tournament. This sets up a semi-final match-up with Jason Jett on next week's edition of Nitro.

Backstage, Ric Flair was talking with Mike Sanders. Sanders told Flair he really appreciated the Nature Boy taking him under his wing as of late. Sanders added he was keen to impress Flair. Flair told Sanders that nothing would impress him more than if Sanders took out Goldberg tonight! Flair said that it would make the Magnificent Seven extremely happy. Sanders did not seem exactly thrilled at the idea!

Footage was shown of last week's brutal attack on Air Raid which was perpetrated by The Wall. Tony Schiavone said that he'd received word that The Wall now wants to go by the name "Malice".

Malice pinned Jeremy Lopez with the Choke Slam in 0:01:58.

Malice took apart his young opponent with ease and finished him with a spine-shattering choke slam.

After the match, Malice hoisted the hapless Jeremy Lopez up by the throat and sent him crashing down to the ringside floor with a choke slam from the ring!! Lopez was stretchered out of the arena as Malice's path of destruction continues.

Backstage, Jeremy Borash interviewed WCW World Tag Team Champions Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo. Borash brought up the interest that Totally Buff have registered in the Tag Team Titles. O'Haire said that they welcomed challenges from any team and wouldn't duck anybody.

Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo defeated
The Boogie Knights (Alex Wright and Disco Inferno) when O'Haire pinned A. Wright
with the Seanton Bomb in 0:10:13.
Rating: *** 1/4

After Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo had rolled over the Boogie Knights in a non-title match, they were jumped from behind by Buff Bagwell and Lex Luger. Totally Buff laid out the champions with Luger's muscle flexer and then posed with the championship belts, much to the disapproval of the fans in attendance.

Rob Van Dam pinned Mark Jindrak with the Five Star Frog Splash in 0:06:15.
Rating: ** 3/4

Rob Van Dam wowed the WCW faithful tonight with an incredible show of athleticism en route to defeating Mark Jindrak. Jindrak had no answer to RVD's phenomenal arsenal of kicks and he succumbed to Rolling Thunder, a somersault slam and a split-legged moonsault. Van Dam scored the pin with his jaw-dropping Five Star Frog Splash.

The camera had periodically cut to Shawn Stasiak watching backstage on a monitor during the last bout. The Mecca of Manhood looked distinctly unimpressed with Rob Van Dam's performance.

A tentative Mike Sanders entered the ring and called out Bill Goldberg. Da Man was happy to oblige, while Jerry Lawler pondered whether or not Sanders had a death wish!

Bill Goldberg pinned Mike Sanders with the Jackhammer in 0:01:19.
Rating: 3/4*

Goldberg only took 79 seconds to smash through Mike Sanders tonight, overwhelming him with power moves and ultimately putting Sanders out of his misery with the Jackhammer.

Goldberg had no time to celebrate though as Rick Steiner came out from under the ring and attacked him! The Dogfaced Gremlin struck Goldberg repeatedly with a steel chair, before drilling him with two dangerous Steiner Drivers onto the chair! A beaming Ric Flair came down to the ring to congratulate Rick on a job well done, while the dishevelled Sanders needed assistance to get to the back!

[Cruiserweight Title Number One Contenders Tournament - First Round]:
Kaz Hayashi pinned Jamie Knoble with the Flying Senton in 0:10:03.
Rating: ** 3/4

In the battle of current and former Jung Dragons, Kaz Hayashi came out on top when he pinned Jamie Knoble with a senton off the top rope. Kaz will now face Jerry Lynn in the other semi-final in two weeks' time on Nitro.

The announcers got the official word from Eric Bischoff's office that Scott Steiner vs. Sting for the WCW World Heavyweight Title was now signed for Slamboree. Mike Tenay said he would conduct a sit-down interview with Sting on next week's show. Also next week, Big Poppa Pump will be in action against Dustin Rhodes.

Footage was shown of the two recent attacks carried out by Chris Kanyon on his former best friend Diamond Dallas Page.

Chris Kanyon and Chris Harris battled to a no-contest in 0:03:57.
Rating: DUD

Chris Kanyon arrogantly slapped around young Chris Harris for the duration of this contest. Kanyon dropped Harris with a Kanyon Kutter, but refused to go for the pin. After two more Kutters, the referee threw the match out as Harris could no longer defend himself.

Kanyon set up Chris Harris' lifeless body for yet another Kanyon Kutter when Diamond Dallas Page hit the ring! The crowd came unstuck at the sight of DDP as Kanyon quickly high-tailed it out of the ring. Page grabbed the mike and warned Kanyon that he wouldn't be able to run at Slamboree!

Hugh Morrus pinned Reno with the No Laughing Matter in 0:06:06.
Rating: * 3/4

After former US Champion Hugh Morrus came out on top over Reno with the moonsault in a hard-hitting encounter, Tony Schiavone announced that there would be a 20-man battle royal next week on Nitro, with the winner receiving a shot at Booker T's US Title at Slamboree! That's huge news!!

Video from The Big Bang when Jesse James Armstrong made a shock appearance was shown. Armstrong made it abundantly clear that he is coming after Jeff Jarrett due to Jarrett turning his back on him several years ago. Gene Okerlund then conducted an interview with Jarrett before the main event of tonight's show. Jarrett admitted that he did turn his back on Armstrong - because Armstrong was of no use to him anymore. Jarrett claimed that Armstrong was never his friend and was only good for carrying his bags and cleaning his boots! Jarrett vowed he'd take care of Shane Helms tonight and then take care of that dreadlocked slapass Jesse James Armstrong, before telling Armstrong that, "if he wasn't down with that, he could choke on it!"

Shane Helms defeated Jeff Jarrett by disqualification in 0:12:11.
Rating: ***

This surprisingly even battle came to an abrupt end when Jeff Jarrett kicked Shane Helms low after Helms called for the Vertebreaker. The referee had no option but to disqualify the Chosen One, who had been in serious danger of suffering defeat at the hands of the Cruiserweight Champion tonight.

After the match, Jeff Jarrett went for his acoustic guitar with the intention of using it on Shane Helms, but Jesse James Armstrong hit the ring for the save! Armstrong disarmed Jarrett and peppered him with a series of jabs, but when he went for a big elbow, Jarrett rolled out under the bottom rope! Jarrett and Armstrong yelled at each other as Nitro drew to a close.

Card rating: * 1/2

Circuit information:
Let's just take a breath and review what went down on tonight's incident filled edition of Monday Nitro!

WCW Cruiserweight Champion Shane Helms downed Jeff Jarrett by disqualification after The Chosen One used a low blow in the main event of the show. Jarrett wanted to do further damage with his guitar after the match, but his plans were foiled by Jesse James Armstrong, who ran Jarrett off. We can confirm that WCW match-makers have signed a bout between these two men on June 17th at Slamboree.

Two other former friends set to clash at Slamboree are Diamond Dallas Page and Chris Kanyon. Kanyon was in action tonight and took serious liberties with his young opponent Chris Harris, pummelling him with a succession of Kanyon Kutters. When it became apparent that Kanyon was only out to punish his foe and not beat the man, DDP ran in for the save. Rest assured that Kanyon will not have such an easy ride at Slamboree.

It is now official that Sting will challenge Scott Steiner for the WCW World Championship at Slamboree. Mike Tenay will bring you an exclusive interview with the Stinger on next week's show, where Sting will talk in-depth about Steiner and the rest of the Magnificent Seven. Big Poppa Pump will be in action next week also, going up against Dustin Rhodes in a non-title match.

Bill Goldberg was lucky not to suffer a serious neck injury at the hands of Rick Steiner tonight. The Dogfaced Gremlin attacked Goldberg after the latter had obliterated Mike Sanders, laying out Goldberg with two Steiner Drivers onto a steel chair. Goldberg will be looking for retribution at the earliest possible opportunity.

Totally Buff are coming after the World Tag Team Titles and they certainly left a painful impression on current champions Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo this evening.

In other WCW news, Crowbar and Daffney have re-signed with the company.

In addition to the Scott Steiner vs. Dustin Rhodes match and the Sting interview, next week's edition of Monday Nitro features a 20-man over the top rope battle royal. Whoever comes out victorious will secure a US Title Match against Booker T at Slamboree. Plus, the Cruiserweight tournament continues with the first semi-final match! Make sure you tune in at the same time next week!!

Your commentators are Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Jerry "The King" Lawler.

This week's edition of Monday Nitro began with comments from several competitors involved in tonight's 20-man battle royal, the winner of which will earn a US Title shot against Booker T at Slamboree. Superstars such as Ernest Miller, Shawn Stasiak, Lance Storm, Bam Bam Bigelow and the Boogie Knights all predicted victory for themselves in the bout.

Elix Skipper pinned Billy Kidman with the Play of the Day in 0:08:59.
Rating: ***
[Kid Romeo interfered against Billy Kidman.]

Billy Kidman appeared to have this match in the bag as he set Elix Skipper up for the Kid Krusher. However, at that moment Kid Romeo ran out and jumped onto the ring apron, distracting Kidman. Kidman decked Romeo with a punch, but turned around into a boot to the gut from Skipper followed by the Play of the Day.

Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo did a number on Kidman after the match, until Rey Mysterio Jr. hit the ring to even the odds. The announcers played it up big that one half of the Cruiserweight Tag Team Champions had been pinned tonight by a man who used to hold the gold.

Backstage, Scott Hudson interviewed the debuting Don Callis, who revealed himself to be the new manager of Malice! The charismatic, power-hungry fanatic vowed to lead Malice straight to the top of WCW. Callis said that Malice has a ravenous appetite for destruction and doubted there was anybody in the locker room who could stop him.

Malice pinned Shark Boy with the Choke Slam in 0:02:08.
Rating: * 1/2

Once again on Nitro, Malice laid waste to his opponent with ease tonight. After the match was over, Malice laid out Shark Boy with another choke slam. EMTs rushed out from the back to stretcher Shark Boy out of the ring, but under instruction from Don Callis, Malice tipped Shark Boy off the stretcher and planted him with yet another choke slam on the arena floor!

Backstage, Jeremy Borash interviewed WCW World Tag Team Champions Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo. Palumbo discussed the sneak attack they suffered at the hands of Totally Buff last week, saying that if they had wanted a shot at the titles, all they had to do was ask instead of acting like cowards.

In the arena, WCW US Champion Booker T made his entrance. Booker was on his way out to provide commentary on the upcoming battle royal and to find out first hand who he'll be defending his title against at Slamboree.

x LeRoux threw out Kwee Wee after a Frankensteiner in 0:22:21

[Stacy Keibler interfered against Brian Adams.]
[Major Gunns interfered against Hugh Morrus.]
[Daffney interfered against Jamie Knoble.]
[Daffney interfered against Kwee Wee.]
[Stacy Keibler interfered against Bam Bam Bigelow.]

This gruelling battle royal lasted over 25 minutes but in the end, Shawn Stasiak dumped his old foe Bam Bam Bigelow over the top rope to win it and secure a shot at the US Title. Booker T on commentary put over Stasiak as a worthy challenger and a formidable opponent. In the ring, The Mecca of Manhood looked at Booker and pointed to his waist, motioning that is where the US Title belt would soon be.

Footage was shown from last week's edition of Nitro of Rick Steiner's beatdown of Bill Goldberg, where he punished Da Man with two Steiner Drivers on a steel chair. As Scott Hudson interviewed the Dogfaced Gremlin, Rick laughed about his actions and said that if Goldberg was upset, he should show up next week and do something about it!

[Cruiserweight Title Number One Contenders Tournament - Semi Final]:
Jason Jett pinned Chavo Guerrero Jr. with the Crash Landing in 0:09:58.
Rating: *** 1/4

Jason Jett heads to the final of the tournament after he came out on top in a back-and-forth encounter with former Cruiserweight Champion Chavo Guerrero Jr. Chavo thought he had won the contest when he drilled Jett with the brain buster, but Jett managed to drape a foot over the bottom rope before the count of three. Jett then delivered his release suplex to keep Chavo down for three.

Sting sit-down interview.
In the WCW studios, Mike Tenay conducted a pre-taped in-depth interview with the number one contender to the WCW World Heavyweight Title, Sting. Footage rolled from the November 15th 2000 edition of Thunder and the finals of the Lethal Lottery tournament, where Sting battled Scott Steiner. Sting pinned Steiner with the Scorpion Death Drop that night, but the aftermath of the contest saw Steiner trap Sting in a straightjacket, lamp him with the lead pipe and lock the Steiner Recliner on the defenceless Stinger. Sting discussed candidly the injuries he suffered in the attack and the fears he had that his career might have been finished. Sting said he owed it to his fans not to go out like that. Sting expressed his determination to make Big Poppa Pump pay at Slamboree and vowed to hurt him in the worst possible way - by taking his WCW Championship!

Tony Schiavone announced that Sting would go one-on-one with Chris Kanyon next week on Nitro.

Scott Steiner pinned Dustin Rhodes after hitting him with a foreign object in
          0:16:51.
Rating: *** 1/2
[Midajah interfered against Dustin Rhodes.]

Scott Steiner and Dustin Rhodes beat the hell out of each other in a very hard-hitting main event tonight on Nitro. Rhodes suplexed Steiner on the ramp during the course of the bout, while Steiner crotched Rhodes on the guardrail and clotheslined him to the floor! Rhodes had Steiner set up in the corner for the Dustbuster, but Midajah ran in and blocked his path! Rhodes went to forcibly remove her, giving Steiner the opportunity to seize the lead pipe and blast Rhodes in the head with it behind the official's back! Big Poppa Pump then scored an easy three count.

Post-match, Scott Steiner hit Dustin Rhodes with the pipe again, busting Rhodes wide open. Steiner then hooked the barely-conscious Rhodes in the Steiner Recliner and refused to let go! As referees and road agents flooded the ring to break Big Poppa Pump's grip, Steiner looked up at the rafters and yelled for Sting as the show went off-air!

Card rating: ** 3/4

Circuit information:
Sting made his intentions clear tonight of coming after Scott Steiner and is determined to make Big Poppa Pump pay dearly for almost ending his career in November last year. Steiner is still raging after Sting attacked him two weeks ago and put his hands on Midajah. Steiner's path of rage cut through Dustin Rhodes tonight as he busted Rhodes open with a lead pipe and kept him trapped in the Steiner Recliner for over three minutes. When Sting and Scott Steiner clash at Slamboree with the WCW World Championship on the line, you can bet that sparks are going to fly!!

Another title match signed for Slamboree will see Booker T put his US Championship on the line against "The Mecca of Manhood" Shawn Stasiak. Stasiak earned his shot at the gold by outlasting nineteen other men in a battle royal tonight. Stasiak has the look and all the talent in the world, but can he put it all together and capture his first piece of singles gold in WCW on June 17th?

Rick Steiner gloated tonight about the attack he carried out on Goldberg last week on Nitro and challenged Da Man to show up next week. With Goldberg hellbent on destroying the Magnificent Seven faction, Rick may be made to regret antagonising him very soon.

Jason Jett secured a place in the final of the cruiserweight tournament with a victory over Chavo Guerrero Jr. tonight. Jett has bounced back very impressively since coming up short in his quest for the Cruiserweight Title against Shane Helms at The Big Bang. Jerry Lynn and Kaz Hayashi will battle it out for the other final spot next week on Nitro.

With Don Callis now at Malice's side, the anger and destruction of this behemoth can now be focussed wherever Callis pleases. This is not good news for World Championship Wrestling.

We're live once again from Vegas next week on Nitro, where Sting will face Chris Kanyon in one-on-one action! In addition, Rob Van Dam will compete and Jesse James Armstrong will make his Nitro wrestling debut! It will undoubtedly be a must-see show, so make sure you tune in next week!!

WCW Monday Nitro

MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, NV
Your commentators are Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Jerry "The King" Lawler.

This week's edition of WCW Monday Nitro opened with comments from Sting and Chris Kanyon regarding their bout in the main event of the show.

The remaining members of the Magnificent Seven arrived at the arena in a limo. Ric Flair promised that they would make several statements tonight, while Scott Steiner wielded his lead pipe menacingly in the background.

Air Raid (Air Paris and AJ Styles) defeated Jamie Knoble and Evan Karagias when
Paris pinned Karagias after the Crash and Burn in 0:06:31.
Rating: ** 3/4

Surprise win for the young team of Air Raid in the opening match of Nitro against Jamie Knoble and Evan Karagias. Big things are predicted for Air Paris and AJ Styles and many believe they are the future of this company.

Backstage, Scott Hudson interviewed Shawn Stasiak, along with Stacy Keibler. Stasiak put over how magnificent an achievement it was to win last week's battle royal. The Mecca of Manhood said that he worked hard, played hard and thus reaped the benefits of hot chicks like Stacy. Stasiak closed by declaring he would take the US Title from Booker T at Slamboree.

Jesse James Armstrong pinned Disco Inferno with the Pumphandle Slam in 0:06:40.
Rating: ** 1/2
[Alex Wright interfered against Jesse James Armstrong.]

Jesse James Armstrong picked up his first win on Nitro against Disco Inferno after some bungled interference by Inferno's tag team partner, Alex Wright. Wright tried to attack him after the match, but Armstrong dispatched of Wright easily and sent the Boogie Knights packing. As Wright and Inferno argued to the back, Armstrong cut a promo on Jeff Jarrett, saying that he had kept six years of anger and ill-feeling bottled up, but at Slamboree he would unleash it all on the Chosen One.

Rob Van Dam pinned Kwee Wee with his special move in 0:07:16.
Rating: *** 1/2

Rob Van Dam excited the fans once again on Nitro with an extraordinary performance against Kwee Wee. The referee was bumped after Kwee Wee side stepped a kick from RVD and Van Dam connected with the official. "Angry Alan" then reared his ugly head, striking Van Dam with a low blow and bringing a chair into the ring. However, RVD connected with the Van Daminator and revived the referee for the three count.

Rob Van Dam delighted the fans after the match by blasting Kwee Wee with the Five Star Frog Splash. The crowd said Van Dam's name along with him as RVD pointed to himself. Van Dam is certainly over with the WCW audience.

[Cruiserweight Title Number One Contenders Tournament - Semi Final]:
Jerry Lynn pinned Kaz Hayashi after a tiger driver in 0:08:02.
Rating: *** 3/4
[Leia Meow interfered against Jerry Lynn.]

Every single match in this cruiserweight tournament has been tremendous and that run continued tonight on Nitro. Jerry Lynn managed to get his knees up on Kaz Hayashi's flying senton attempt and then drilled Kaz with a double underhook power bomb for the three count. It will be Lynn vs. Jason Jett on next week's show to determine the number one contender to Shane Helms' Cruiserweight Title.

Rick Steiner pinned Scotty O with the Steiner Driver in 0:01:14.
Rating: *

Rick Steiner pasted Scotty O tonight with little effort and quickly finished him off with the Death Valley Driver. The Dogfaced Gremlin took the microphone after the match and invited Bill Goldberg down to the ring for a fight. Goldberg, keen to avenge the beating his suffered at the hands of Steiner two weeks ago, did not need a second invitation. The crowd were on their feet as Da Man made his entrance, but as he reached the end of the ramp he was attacked by Buff Bagwell and Lex Luger! The fans jeered as Goldberg endured a three-on-one mugging in the ring. WCW Tag Team Champions Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo hit the ring to even out the odds and Rick Steiner and Totally Buff quickly bailed out! Goldberg was furious afterwards.

Back from the break and Eric Bischoff was doing his best to calm Goldberg down. Goldberg said he wanted Rick Steiner and Bischoff said he'd give him to Goldberg at Slamboree. Da Man accepted the deal and warned the Dogfaced Gremlin that his days in WCW are now numbered.

Lance Storm, along with Team Canada members Mike Awesome and Major Gunns, made his way down to the ring and cut a promo. Storm said that Crowbar had embarrassed him and all of Canada last week when he eliminated Storm from the battle royal. Storm then challenged Crowbar to a match there and then. Crowbar and Daffney entered the arena to agree to the bout.

Crowbar defeated Lance Storm by disqualification in 0:07:18.
Rating: ** 1/2
[Mike Awesome interfered against Crowbar.]
[Daffney interfered against Lance Storm.]

This match-up was notable for a catfight between Major Gunns and Daffney which the crowd popped for. Crowbar connected with the Mind Bender and covered Lance Storm for what surely would have been a count of three, but Mike Awesome broke up the pin and Storm was disqualified.

Lance Storm and Mike Awesome did a number on Crowbar after the bout. Daffney tried to intervene, but ate a superkick from Storm for her troubles. Awesome then left Crowbar laying with the Awesome Bomb.

Shane Helms pinned Yang with the Vertebreaker in 0:07:25.
Rating: ***
[Leia Meow interfered against Shane Helms.]

After WCW Cruiserweight Champion Shane Helms had fought off the challenge of Yang in a non-title match, Mike Tenay interviewed Helms at ringside. Tenay inquired about who Helms would rather defend his title against - Jason Jett or Jerry Lynn. Helms said he knew all about Jett and had all the respect in the world for Lynn. He said that either man would be a worthy challenger for his belt and did not mind who wins the tournament final, as he will not be giving up his title lightly.

Sting defeated Chris Kanyon by disqualification in 0:11:43.
Rating: ** 1/4
[Scott Steiner interfered against Sting.]

In this week's main event of Nitro, Chris Kanyon and Sting really took it to each other in a hard-fought battle. Sting avoided the Flatliner by holding on to the top rope. Sting had Kanyon in enough trouble to go for the Scorpion Deathlock, but as he was starting to apply the hold Scott Steiner hit the ring and struck Sting in the back with the lead pipe, causing the disqualification.

Scott Steiner and Chris Kanyon doubled up on Sting, putting the boots to him. Big Poppa Pump then took the lead pipe and went to twist Sting's leg around it, attempting to break the Stinger's limb! Thankfully, Diamond Dallas Page came out swinging a chair to make the save. Page helped Sting back up to his feet and Sting expressed his gratitude for DDP showing up when he did. Officials held back Steiner and Kanyon in the aisle as Nitro went off-air!

Card rating: ** 1/2

Circuit information:
The callous and remorseless WCW Champion, "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner, almost ended Sting's career tonight and probably would have done so if Diamond Dallas Page hadn't hit the ring when he did. After tonight's shocking conclusion to the show, Eric Bischoff quickly signed a bout for next week's edition of Nitro, which will see Scott Steiner team up with Chris Kanyon to battle the team of Sting and Diamond Dallas Page! With Sting challenging Steiner for the title at Slamboree and Page and Kanyon also facing each other on the pay-per-view, all four superstars will be holding nothing back next Monday night!

Also on next week's show, Jerry Lynn with face Jason Jett in the final of the cruiserweight tournament, the winner of which will go on to challenge Cruiserweight Champion "Sugar" Shane Helms at a later date. This tournament has produced some gripping encounters and the final will certainly be no exception.

Two more matches were signed for Slamboree after tonight's show and they are as follows. Bill Goldberg will square off with Rick Steiner in a grudge match, while Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo will defend the WCW World Tag Team Titles against Totally Buff, Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell. With Slamboree just under three weeks away, this is how the card stands so far:

WCW World Heavyweight Championship:
Scott Steiner vs. Sting

WCW United States Championship:
Booker T vs. Shawn Stasiak

WCW World Tag Team Championship:
Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo vs. Totally Buff

Bill Goldberg vs. Rick Steiner

Diamond Dallas Page vs. Chris Kanyon

Jeff Jarrett vs. Jesse James Armstrong

Join us same time next week for another edition of the only wrestling show worth watching on Monday nights!!

WCW Monday Nitro
June 4th, 2001
MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, NV
Your commentators are Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Jerry "The King" Lawler.

Tonight's edition of Monday Nitro began with a video package documenting the finish of last week's show, where Scott Steiner tried to break Sting's leg after the Stinger's match with Chris Kanyon. Diamond Dallas Page arrived on the scene to make the save in the nick of time and ran Kanyon and Steiner off. This all sets up our tag team main event tonight, where Sting and DDP will team up to battle WCW World Champion Scott Steiner and Kanyon.

Kid Romeo pinned Rey Mysterio Jr. with the Last Kiss in 0:08:23.
Rating: *** 3/4
[Elix Skipper interfered against Rey Mysterio Jr..]

Rey Mysterio Jr. was keen to avenge his tag team partner Billy Kidman's loss to Elix Skipper two weeks ago with a win over Skipper's partner, Kid Romeo, here tonight on Nitro. Mysterio seemed to have things going his way until Elix Skipper came down to ringside and began stalking Tygress. This distraction was to prove costly for Rey, as he turned into the Last Kiss from Kid Romeo for the pinfall.

With this win, Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo made it two for two in singles competition over the WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Champions. This was a statistic that Skipper and Romeo were keen to gloat about after the match!

Ernest Miller pinned Mark Jindrak with the Feliner in 0:06:07.
Rating: * 1/4
[Ms. Jones interfered against Mark Jindrak.]

In the parking lot, Crowbar attacked Lance Storm and Mike Awesome in the Team Canada bus. Team Canada had done a number on Crowbar last week after his match with Storm and now Crowbar was out for some retribution. Referees eventually stepped in and stopped the brawl. Eric Bischoff then appeared and booked a match between Crowbar and Mike Awesome for later on the show. Major Gunns and Daffney then got into it and as officials struggled to break up the catfight, Bischoff added a stipulation that managers were barred from ringside for the bout!

Backstage, Scott Hudson revealed that a huge six man tag team match had been booked for next week's edition of Nitro, pitting Bill Goldberg and WCW World Tag Team Champions Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo against Rick Steiner and Totally Buff from the Magnificent Seven. Hudson then interviewed Rick Steiner, Buff Bagwell and Lex Luger, who provided comments regarding next week's match. The trio said they would leave just enough of their opponents so they could show up for Slamboree, where they said Totally Buff would win the Tag Titles and Rick Steiner would end Goldberg's career.

[Cruiserweight Title Number One Contenders Tournament - Final]:
Jason Jett defeated Jerry Lynn after an inside cradle in 0:12:44.
Rating: ***

WCW Cruiserweight Champion "Sugar" Shane Helms was shown watching the final of the tournament on a backstage monitor. This bout was evenly fought, with both men's attempt to hit their finishers continually frustrated by the other. Jason Jett hit an incredible flying cross body press to the outside on Jerry Lynn, while Lynn almost knocked Jett out cold with a sunset flip power bomb off the apron to the floor! Lynn tried to finish Jett with the TKO, but Jett wriggled free and rolled Lynn up, grabbing a handful of tights to keep Lynn's shoulders down for three!

Jerry Lynn was miffed with Jason Jett's skulduggery after the match, feeling - quite justly - that he'd been robbed. Jett celebrated his win with vigour, while the announcers concurred that such a gripping tournament should not have ended so controversially.

Jeff Jarrett came down to the ring and cut a promo on Jesse James Armstrong, saying it was time to tell a few home truths. Jarrett revealed that he ditched Armstrong all those years ago because Armstrong is a drug addict. Jarrett said it was only a matter of time before Armstrong's demons rear their ugly head again and he falls off the wagon. The Chosen One advised Armstrong to grab all the pain pills he can to make the beating he's fixed to get all the more bearable! Jarrett vowed to send Armstrong back to rehab at Slamboree! The crowd exploded as Armstrong hit the ring, furious at Jarrett's personal comments. Armstrong took Jarrett down and hammered him with a succession of hard punches!! The fight spilled out of the ring, with both men kicking and punching each other! A group of road agents and officials arrived on the scene were finally able to restore order. Jarrett suffered a bloodied nose in the melee, while Armstrong screamed that he was going to kill Jarrett for this!!

Booker T pinned Reno with the Book End in 0:10:43.
Rating: ** 1/2

Booker T endured a tough challenge from a determined Reno in this non-title bout here tonight on Nitro. The finish came when Booker managed to reverse Reno's Roll of the Dice attempt into the Book End.

Booker T barely had time to celebrate as Shawn Stasiak hit the ring. Stasiak swiped the US Title belt out of the referee's hands and decked Booker with it! The Mecca of Manhood placed one foot on Booker's chest and raised the championship aloft in triumph, before Rob Van Dam hit the ring and ran Stasiak off. Van Dam helped Booker back to his feet and the two men shook hands.

Malice pinned Lash LeRoux with the Choke Slam in 0:02:12.
Rating: *

At the behest of Don Callis, Lash LeRoux's punishment continued at the hands of Malice after the match. Malice destroyed LeRoux with three consecutive power bombs and then threw him over the top rope. LeRoux was in a world of hurt and had to be stretchered out of the arena. Callis grabbed the mike afterwards and demanded better competition for Malice.

Backstage, Eric Bischoff announced that the team of Kid Romeo and Elix Skipper are the number one contenders to the Cruiserweight Tag Team Titles. Bischoff also booked a six man tag team match for Slamboree which will see WCW Cruiserweight Champion Shane Helms team up with Cruiserweight Tag Team Champions Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr. to battle the trio of Jason Jett, Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo. Before that though, Bischoff said that Helms and Jett will team up to face Skipper and Romeo next week on Nitro!

Match with Managers Banned From Ringside:
Crowbar pinned Mike Awesome after a rana in 0:07:09.
Rating: *** 1/2

This contest was a brawl from bell to bell. Mike Awesome looked to put away Crowbar with the Awesome Bomb, but in a flash Crowbar reversed it into a rana and kept Awesome's shoulders down for the three count!

The crowd cheered the result like crazy, but suddenly Lance Storm hit the ring and Team Canada wasted no time in going to work on Crowbar. Storm set up a table in the ring and dragged Crowbar onto it, while Mike Awesome climbed to the top rope in preparation to deliver an Awesome Splash on Crowbar through the table! However, Crowbar kicked Storm off him and into the ropes, causing Awesome to lose his balance and crotch himself! Crowbar clotheslined Storm out of the ring, before grabbing Awesome and slamming him off the top rope through the table!!

Jeremy Borash caught up with an irate Shawn Stasiak backstage. Stasiak warned Rob Van Dam to stay out of his business. Stasiak said he would win the US Title from Booker T at Slamboree and then take care of RVD.

Diamond Dallas Page and Sting and Chris Kanyon and Scott Steiner
battled to a no-contest in 0:14:10.
Rating: ** 1/4
[Midajah interfered against Diamond Dallas Page.]

This contest was every bit the out-of-control war fans expected it to be. The four men brawled around ringside and through the crowd for the first few minutes before the official was finally able to restore order. Sting focussed his attack on Scott Steiner's left leg, hoping to wear him out for the scorpion deathlock and make sure he is not at 100% for Slamboree. It didn't take long for the match to break down again though, with Steiner and Sting pounding each other in one corner and Diamond Dallas Page and Kanyon fighting at ringside. The four combatants were paying absolutely no attention to the official, who subsequently threw the match out.

While Sting and Big Poppa Pump continued to brawl in the ring, the fight between Diamond Dallas Page and Kanyon spilled over the guardrail and into the crowd! With the fans cheering them on, Page and Kanyon traded punches to the back of the arena and out into the parking lot! Outside, DDP threw Kanyon onto a car windshield, shattering it, and then smashed a trash can over his head. Back in the arena, security flooded the ring in an attempt to separate Sting and Scott Steiner! Both fights were still raging on as Nitro went off-air!

Card rating: ** 1/2

Circuit information:
When you consider the combustible elements present in tonight's main event, it was no surprise that things got out of control in a hurry. Order was eventually restored after the cameras stopped rolling, but absolutely nothing was settled between Sting and Scott Steiner or between Diamond Dallas Page and Kanyon. DDP and Kanyon caused a lot of damage outside the arena and it has forced Eric Bischoff adding a special stipulation to their match at Slamboree. Word is that the stip will be revealed next week on Nitro. Bischoff has also warned that with the rising hostility between Sting and Big Poppa Pump, these two men must not touch each other on next week's show, which is the last one before Slamboree. Bischoff does not want to endanger his pay-per-view main event and who knows what might happen if tempers flare again between Sting and Steiner.

Jason Jett won the cruiserweight tournament tonight and will face Shane Helms for the Cruiserweight Title on a date yet to be determined. However, the tactics Jett used to defeat Jerry Lynn were questionable to say the least. Is this simply a sign that Jett will do whatever it takes to secure championship gold in WCW? Staying with the cruiserweight scene, Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo were named the number one contenders to the Cruiserweight Tag Titles as a result of Skipper's singles victory over Billy Kidman coupled with Romeo's pinfall win over Rey Mysterio Jr this evening.

The feud between Crowbar and Team Canada escalated tonight. Crowbar foiled Lance Storm and Mike Awesome's attempt to put him through a table and in fact it was Awesome who got wood, courtesy of Crowbar! Crowbar and Mike Awesome will face off in a Tables Match next week on Nitro.

Shawn Stasiak got the upper hand on Booker T tonight ahead of their US Title Match at Slamboree, decking Booker with Book's own title belt. However, Rob Van Dam hit the ring to run Stasiak off. There has been ill-feeling between Stasiak and RVD ever since Van Dam made his debut in WCW - these guys just do not like each other.

Jeff Jarrett crossed the line with his comments tonight and made his bitter war with Jesse James Armstrong as personal as you can imagine. Jarrett unnecessarily brought up Armstrong's previous drug problems and addiction issues. Armstrong was furious to say the least and would have beaten Jarrett to a bloody pulp had security not stepped in when they did. Armstrong has requested some interview time on next week's show.

Slamboree, live on pay-per-view from The Centrum in Worcester, Massachusetts, is only two weeks away. Let's recap the card as it stands so far:

WCW World Heavyweight Championship:
Scott Steiner vs. Sting

WCW United States Championship:
Booker T vs. Shawn Stasiak

WCW World Tag Team Championship:
Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo vs. Totally Buff

Bill Goldberg vs. Rick Steiner

Diamond Dallas Page vs. Chris Kanyon

Jeff Jarrett vs. Jesse James Armstrong

Shane Helms, Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Jason Jett, Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo

Don't miss next week's edition of Monday Nitro, where Crowbar battles Mike Awesome in a Tables Match, Jason Jett and Shane Helms team up to face Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo, plus there is that huge six man tag team bout pitting the trio of Rick Steiner, Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell from the Magnificent Seven against WCW Tag Team Champions Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo and their partner, Bill Goldberg!! It's the hottest wrestling show anywhere on Monday nights - you'd be a fool to miss it!!

WCW Monday Nitro
June 11th, 2001
MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, NV
Your commentators are Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Jerry "The King" Lawler.

After the usual Nitro opening, Tony Schiavone announced and promoted the feature matches of the night. Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo face the WCW Cruiserweight Champion Shane Helms and the number one contender to his title, Jason Jett, Mike Awesome squares off against Crowbar in a Tables Match and in a six man tag team match, Bill Goldberg teams up with WCW Tag Team Champions Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo to battle Rick Steiner and Totally Buff.

Bill Goldberg was shown arriving at the arena, where he was suddenly jumped by Rick Steiner and Totally Buff. Goldberg was dragged out into the parking lot, where he was savagely beaten. Goldberg was rammed into a garage door repeatedly and kicked and punched while he was on the ground. Rick Steiner then hoisted Goldberg up and drilled him with a Steiner Driver onto a car hood! Security and road agents then showed up, but the damage had been done. One of the agents called frantically for a doctor.

Cash and Jamie Knoble defeated Jung Dragons (Kaz Hayashi and Yang) when Cash
pinned Kaz after a reverse cradle in 0:13:54.
Rating: ****
[Leia Meow interfered against Cash.]
[Leia Meow interfered against Jamie Knoble.]

Cash and Jamie Knoble paired up for the first time tonight and it was a successful debut for the team. This was a gripping encounter that whipped the crowd into a frenzy. Cash was able to reverse Kaz Hayashi's dragon suplex attempt into a cradle for the duke.

During the opening bout, Tony Schiavone reported that Bill Goldberg had been taken to a local medical facility and said you could forget about him teaming with Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo in tonight's six man tag team match against Rick Steiner, Buff Bagwell and Lex Luger.

Backstage, the Magnificent Seven were celebrating their dirty work. They were interrupted by Mike Sanders, who asked Ric Flair for another chance to prove himself to the group. Flair told Sanders that if he could take out Sting tonight, they might even consider giving Sanders a place in the group.

Backstage, Scott Hudson said that he had talked with the EMTs that were on the scene and it appeared that Bill Goldberg suffered a severe concussion from the attack and possibly some internal injuries.

Table Match:
Mike Awesome defeated Crowbar by putting him through a table in 0:07:05.
Rating: ** 1/2
[Daffney interfered against Mike Awesome.]

Mike Awesome was out for revenge tonight after Crowbar sent him crashing through a table last week. Awesome had Crowbar draped across a table and prepared to deliver the Awesome Splash, but Daffney draped her body over Crowbar's in an attempt to stop the Canadian Killer from completing the move. Undeterred, Awesome splashed both Crowbar and Daffney through the table to win the match!

As Crowbar and Daffney lay battered and beaten in the ring, Malice's music hit and Don Callis led his charge down to the ring! Malice grabbed Crowbar and went for a choke slam, but Callis stopped him and told him to go after Daffney! The crowd booed as Malice effortlessly dragged Daffney up by the hair. Thankfully, Bam Bam Bigelow made his way down to the ring to prevent any further carnage. Malice and Callis thought better of a confrontation and left the ring, but Callis warned that Bigelow had just made a huge mistake!

Backstage, Jeremy Borash interviewed both WCW Cruiserweight Champion Shane Helms and the number one contender, Jason Jett. Helms and Jett will team up to face Elix Skipper and Kim Romeo tonight. Helms said that he was surprised that Jett used a handful of tights to defeat Jerry Lynn and win the number one contendership to the Cruiserweight Title. Jett seemed offended by Helms' comments and said that he will always do whatever it takes to win. Jett added that the same will be true when he faces Helms for the gold and walked off.

Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo defeated Jason Jett and Shane Helms when Skipper
pinned Helms with the Play of the Day in 0:07:29.
Rating: *** 3/4

Shane Helms and Jason Jett actually showed a lot of promise as a team in this exciting match against Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo. However, all that potential went up in smoke when Helms accidentally superkicked Jett out of the ring. This didn't sit well with Jett, who believed that it was deliberate. Jett climbed back up onto the apron to argue with Helms, before snapping the Cruiserweight Champion's neck off the top rope! Jett walked to the back and Helms was then quickly pinned after Skipper executed the Play of the Day.

This was a big win for Kid Romeo and Elix Skipper, who will go into their eventual Cruiserweight Tag Team Title showdown with Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr with a great deal of momentum. After the match, Shane Helms ran to the back to demand answers from Jason Jett.

Eric Bischoff announced that after the uncontrollable violence between Diamond Dallas Page and Chris Kanyon on Nitro last week, he was giving them licence to do whatever they like at Slamboree as he was making their match a Last Man Standing Match!

Shannon Moore pinned Alex Wright with the Bottoms Up in 0:06:41.
Rating: ** 3/4

Tony Schiavone received word that Mike Sanders had challenged Sting to a one-on-one match tonight and the bout had now been made official for later in the show.

Jesse James Armstrong sit-down interview.
In this interview with Mike Tenay, Jesse James Armstrong addressed Jeff Jarrett's comments from last week about Armstrong's struggles with substance abuse problems. Armstrong said that he'd been battling his addiction since high school when he started doing drugs. He said he lived the rock and roll lifestyle. Armstrong revealed that he hit rock bottom when he went to jail with a DUI. He was looking at spending a year in jail when he discovered the rehab program. He said he was grateful he went in there and that it is a daily battle, but right now he has his demons at bay. Armstrong said that the program helped him start to turn his life around and that he was back together with his wife. Armstrong had comments for Jeff Jarrett, saying that he had no right to bring up his personal life and that Jarrett crossed the line last week. Armstrong said that his career in World Championship Wrestling is a fresh start for him, but that Slamboree will be anything but for Jarrett, as Armstrong threatened to end Jarrett's career on Sunday!

Bill Goldberg, Chuck Palumbo and Sean O'Haire defeated
The Magnificent Seven (Buff Bagwell, Lex Luger and Rick Steiner) when Goldberg
defeated R. Steiner by countout in 0:10:37.
Rating: 1/2*

Bill Goldberg did not appear at the start of this bout, so it became a handicap match with the odds in the favour of the Magnificent Seven. Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo showed brief flurries of offence but the numbers game was too much for them and they were quickly cut off each time. Rick Steiner looked to finish the match as he lifted Palumbo up onto his shoulders for the Steiner Driver, when suddenly Goldberg's music hit and Da Man stormed down the ramp!! The crowd were in raptures as Goldberg entered the ring, but the Dogfaced Gremlin quickly bailed out! Goldberg stalked Rick Steiner through the crowd and out of the arena! Rick was the legal man and was subsequently counted out!

Meanwhile, with it now two-on-two, WCW Tag Team Champions Chuck Palumbo and Sean O'Haire took it to their challengers at Slamboree, Totally Buff. Palumbo decked Luger with the Jungle Kick and O'Haire went up top for the Seanton Bomb, but Bagwell pulled Luger out of the ring before the move could be completed.

Sting made Mike Sanders submit to the scorpion deathlock in 0:05:20.
Rating: ** 3/4

Sting might well be in the best shape of his career and he put on a great performance here tonight against the Magnificent Seven flunky Mike Sanders. Sting crushed Sanders with two Stinger Splashes and then made him tap quickly to the Scorpion Deathlock.

The announcers pondered whether we could be looking at the next WCW Champion as Sting worked the crowd after the match. Scott Steiner's music then hit and Big Poppa Pump made his way out from the back. Tony Schiavone reminded viewers that Eric Bischoff stipulated that Sting and Steiner cannot touch each other before Slamboree! With Sting's attention diverted by the WCW Champion, Mike Sanders sneaked back into the ring with a steel chair! However, Sting spun around and disarmed Sanders with a boot to the gut, before drilling him with the Scorpion Death Drop! With Steiner remaining on the entrance ramp, he and Sting stared each other down as Nitro faded to black!

Card rating: * 3/4

Circuit information:
We are now less than a week from one of the biggest shows of the year for World Championship Wrestling and the stage is almost set for Slamboree! WCW is ready to tear it up inside The Centrum in Worcester, Massachusetts, this Sunday night live on pay-per-view!

Bill Goldberg endured a sickening beating at the hands of the Magnificent Seven in the parking lot tonight, suffering cuts and bruises and also a mild concussion. Goldberg discharged himself from hospital and returned to the arena for the closing moments of tonight's six man tag team match, where he chased Rick Steiner out of the arena. There will be nowhere for the Dogfaced Gremlin to run at Slamboree and Goldberg is ready for war!

WCW World Champion "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner will defend his title at Slamboree against Sting in what will undoubtedly be a hard hitting battle! Steiner almost ended Sting's career last November after brutalising him following the Lethal Lottery final. Sting has vowed to make Steiner pay at Slamboree by taking his title and becoming a seven time WCW World Heavyweight Champion.

The history between Chris Kanyon and Diamond Dallas Page has been greatly documented, with Kanyon doing everything in his power to make Page's life hell. In an attempt to end the conflict between these two enemies, Eric Bischoff has booked them in a Last Man Standing Match at Slamboree! This match is a true test of endurance as well as one's threshold for pain. There are no disqualifications or countouts. The only way to win is to incapacitate your opponent enough so that he cannot answer a ten-count. It seems a fitting way to draw a line under the brutal feud between DDP and Kanyon that has raged on for a year.

Ever since Jeff Jarrett made Jesse James Armstrong's struggles with drug addiction public, the rivalry between the two men has reached fever pitch. Jarrett claims that Armstrong is an abuser and doesn't belong in WCW, while Armstrong has promised to beat The Chosen One to within an inch of his life for making their feud personal. After viewing tonight's interview, Armstrong seems to be deadly serious and I fear that neither man will ever be the same after Slamboree this Sunday.

After an auspicious start, the team of Shane Helms and Jason Jett quickly fell apart when Jett turned on his partner after a mistimed move. Perhaps this turn of events was to be expected though as Jett has claimed he will do anything it takes to capture Helms' Cruiserweight Title. Jett and Helms will face off for the gold next week on Nitro, one night after Slamboree where they'll be on opposite teams in a six man tag match.

Here's the finalised card for Slamboree, live this Sunday night on pay-per-view from The Centrum in Worcester, Massachusetts:

WCW World Heavyweight Championship:
Scott Steiner vs. Sting

WCW United States Championship:
Booker T vs. Shawn Stasiak

WCW World Tag Team Championship:
Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo vs. Totally Buff

Last Man Standing Match:
Diamond Dallas Page vs. Chris Kanyon

Bill Goldberg vs. Rick Steiner

Jeff Jarrett vs. Jesse James Armstrong

Shane Helms, Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Jason Jett, Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo

Make sure you are a part of it this Sunday night!!

WCW SLAMBOREE
June 17th, 2001
The Centrum in Worcester, Massachusetts
Your commentators are Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Jerry "The King" Lawler.

The ninth annual Slamboree opened with a video package documenting the build-up to tonight's feature bouts. After the opening pyro show, the announcers hyped up the card and then the competitors in the opening six man tag match made their entrances.

Elix Skipper, Jason Jett and Kid Romeo defeated
Filthy Animals (Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr.) and Shane Helms when Jett
pinned Helms after a backslide in 0:15:15.
Rating: ***

This was a great cruiserweight opener in front of a hot crowd, the highlight of which was a series of dives from all six men! Not to be outdone, Tygress scaled the turnbuckles and landed on all the participants with a spectacular flying cross body! Jason Jett won the bout for his team when he tied up Shane Helms in a backslide whilst placing a foot on the ropes for extra leverage!

After the match, the rivalry between WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Champions Rey Mysterio Jr and Billy Kidman and the number one contenders Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo boiled over and the two teams brawled to the back. In the ring, Shane Helms was furious that Jason Jett had got one over on him by cheating, while Jett gloated at ringside. Tony Schiavone hyped up their Cruiserweight Title Match tomorrow night on Nitro, when KroniK made an unexpected appearance! Brian Adams and Bryan Clark entered the ring and attacked a bewildered Helms, laying him out with the High Times! KroniK hit Helms with a second High Times and then left the ring as the crowd looked on in disbelief! Smirking, Jason Jett then got back in the ring with the Cruiserweight Title belt and told Helms that the title was coming home with him tomorrow night! Jett left the ring to jeers from the crowd, while Helms had to be helped from the ring by officials, complaining of agonising pain in his back.

Jeff Jarrett defeated Jesse James Armstrong by disqualification in 0:06:07.
Rating: ***

This resembled more of a back alley brawl than a wrestling match. Jeff Jarrett and Jesse James Armstrong punched and kicked the bejesus out of each other, paying no attention to the protestations of the official. Eventually, Armstrong's frustrations got the better of him and he threw the referee down, getting himself disqualified in the process.

Jeff Jarrett and Jesse James Armstrong brawled to the ringside area, where Armstrong hurled the timekeeper to the ground and grabbed his chair. Armstrong swung at Jarrett with the chair, but Jarrett moved and Armstrong connected with the ringpost! Jarrett then took some electrical cable and wrapped it around Armstrong's neck, choking him out. Jarrett got more leverage by trapping Armstrong against the ringpost and placing his own foot against the post, applying more pressure on Armstrong's throat! Armstrong spluttered and struggled for breath and had almost turned blue by the time officials and road agents dragged Jarrett off! A barely-conscious Armstrong passed out on the ringside mats as Jarrett revelled in the jeers of the crowd.

Shawn Stasiak pinned Booker T with the Hangman's Neckbreaker in 0:11:26.
Rating: ** 3/4
(Shawn Stasiak won the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship.)
[Stacy Keibler interfered against Booker T.]

Booker T dominated the early exchanges of this US Title Match, but Shawn Stasiak took over when he crotched Booker on the top rope as Booker went for the Harlem Hangover and Stasiak took him down with a superplex. With the heart of a champion, Booker fought back and connected with the Book End. Booker seemed certain to retain his title as he went for the cover, but Stacy Keibler entered the ring to consult with the official! As the referee tried to remove Stacy from the squared circle, she stumbled and fell to the mat, appearing to injure her ankle. The official tended to Stacy, infuriating Booker T who went to remonstrate with him. Stasiak rolled out of the ring and swiped the US Title belt. Just like two weeks ago on Nitro, Stasiak decked Booker with the championship belt and blasted him with a neckbreaker on the title! Stacy then made a miraculous recovery and left the ring, allowing the referee to count the fall and award the US Title to the new champion, Shawn Stasiak! The fans hated the outcome of this match and were not shy in venting their anger!

Tony Schiavone excitedly announced that WCW Thunder would return on MTV on Wednesday, July 18th. Mike Tenay acknowledged the rumours that Thunder would now be an all-cruiserweights show.

Bill Goldberg pinned Rick Steiner with the Jackhammer in 0:05:40.
Rating: **
[Ric Flair interfered against Bill Goldberg.]

Bill Goldberg wasted no time in dismantling the Dogfaced Gremlin. He threw Rick Steiner over the announcers' table and whipped him hard into the guardrail. Goldberg then drove Rick through the safety barrier with an awesome spear! Ric Flair then jumped in and attacked Goldberg, forcing the official to send Flair to the back. Goldberg put Rick Steiner out of his misery with the Jackhammer to win the bout in a little under six minutes.

After the match, Goldberg unfolded two chairs in the ring and dropped Rick Steiner with a Jackhammer through the chairs!! The Dogfaced Gremlin was coughing up blood as the announcers pondered which member of the rapidly diminishing Magnificent Seven group Goldberg would target next.

Backstage, Gene Okerlund interviewed the team of Totally Buff, who were supremely confident of capturing the Tag Team Titles tonight. After the interview finished, the camera caught Jason Jett handing over several wads of cash to KroniK in the background! Jett caught sight of the camera and went ballistic!

Totally Buff (Buff Bagwell and Lex Luger) defeated
Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo when Bagwell pinned O'Haire with the
Buff Blockbuster in 0:10:45.
Rating: *
(Totally Buff won the WCW World Tag Team Championship.)

The tide of this Tag Team Title Match turned when Buff Bagwell threw Sean O'Haire to the floor and Lex Luger rammed him head-first into the ringpost! O'Haire hit the deck in a heap and appeared to be out cold, a fear that was confirmed by EMTs who were quickly on the scene. O'Haire was taken to the back for treatment, leaving Chuck Palumbo to defend the titles single-handedly. In the end, the odds were too much for Palumbo, who fell to the veterans when Bagwell scored with the Blockbuster to secure the titles for Totally Buff!

Backstage, Jeremy Borash was standing by with the newest additions to the WCW roster, Simon Diamond and Swinger - collectively known as Maximum Force - along with their gorgeous valet, Dawn Marie. Simon had a problem - he said that they had come to WCW for the best tag team competition in the world and after viewing the Tag Team Title Match here tonight, Simon confidently predicted that he and Swinger would become WCW Tag Team Champions in the very near future.

Backstage, Gene Okerlund interviewed Chris Kanyon ahead of Kanyon's Last Man Standing Match with Diamond Dallas Page. Kanyon menacingly revealed that he had a big surprise for Page tonight. Kanyon noted how Page is fond of saying "I'm still standing", but after their match tonight, Kanyon said that it would be he, not Page, that would be the man left standing.

Before Chris Kanyon and Diamond Dallas Page could lock up, Kanyon seized the microphone and said that he was going to reveal to the world - and in particular DDP - his brand new manager! He directed Page's attention to the entrance way, where Page's estranged wife Kimberly strutted out!! To jeers from the crowd, Kimberly took her place at ringside and blew a kiss at Page! An angry Page attacked Kanyon and the Last Man Standing match was on!

Last Man Standing Match:
Chris Kanyon and Diamond Dallas Page battled to a draw in 0:16:48.
Rating: ** 1/2
[Kimberly interfered against Diamond Dallas Page.]

The presence of Kimberly at ringside certainly handed the psychological advantage to Chris Kanyon, but Kimberly was not above getting involved in the match as well. Diamond Dallas Page wiped out Kanyon with a plancha as the two men took the fight to the floor. Kanyon went for the Kanyon Kutter, but Page threw him off back-first onto the ramp. Kanyon found a wrench under the ring and attacked Page's knee with it - a clever tactic in that if DDP couldn't stand, then how could he possibly win this match? Kanyon held DDP so Kimberly could slap him. Kanyon drilled Page with the Kanyon Kutter, but as Page looked to be getting up to his feet at the count of five, Kanyon distracted the official and Kimberly tripped her husband! However, Page struggled back up and beat the ten count. Kimberly handed Kanyon a roll of dimes, which Kanyon cracked Page in the mouth with! Again, Page made it back up before ten. DDP put Kanyon through a table with an elbowdrop. DDP and Kanyon brawled up the ramp and fought dangerously close to the side of the entrance stage. They both teased throwing each other off, before Page hit the Diamond Cutter out of nowhere off the stage and both men crashed through two tables below!! As the crowd chanted, "Holy Shit!!" in unison, Page was favouring his knee while Kanyon seemed to be out cold! The referee started his count as Kimberly implored Kanyon to get back to his feet. Page was almost back up at seven, but the pain in his knee was too great and he crumpled back down to the ground! The referee reached ten and with both men still grounded, he declared the bout a draw. The crowd made their disapproval known.

Following their war, both Diamond Dallas Page and Kanyon had to be helped to the back by EMTs, where they were administered with some much-needed medical attention.

Scott Steiner defeated Sting by disqualification in 0:17:29.
Rating: ** 3/4
(Scott Steiner retained the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.)
[Midajah interfered against Sting.]

This battle for the WCW Title began with both warriors exchanging stiff shots. Sting knocked Scott Steiner out of the ring with a dropkick and when Steiner tried to call time out, Sting came over the top with a splash! Steiner got his knees up on a flying bodypress and hit a Gorilla press slam. Steiner got a two count from referee Billy Silverman with a Steinerline. Big Poppa Pump took Sting up top, but Sting threw Steiner off the ropes. Sting hit two big clotheslines and a Stinger splash. Sting went for another, but Steiner moved and the official was sandwiched in the corner! Sting hit the Scorpion Death Drop, but there was no referee to count the fall! As Sting went to wake up Billy Silverman, Midajah slid the lead pipe to Steiner. Big Poppa Pump tried to use the pipe on Sting, but Sting booted him in the gut and disarmed him. Sting then took the pipe and nailed Steiner in full view of the now-recovered referee! Billy Silverman promptly disqualified Sting to the disgust of the crowd!

Sting pleaded with the referee, claiming that it was not him that had brought the lead pipe into the ring, but his grievances fell on deaf ears. Scott Steiner then attacked Sting from behind, but Sting quickly turned the tables on the champion and took him to the ground. Sting locked Big Poppa Pump in the Scorpion Deathlock to a huge ovation! Slamboree went off the air with the compelling image of WCW Champion Scott Steiner tapping to Sting's Scorpion Deathlock!

Card rating: ** 1/2

Circuit information:
What a night of incredible action here tonight at Slamboree, which ended in controversial circumstances with Scott Steiner retaining the WCW World Heavyweight Championship via disqualification. Sting clearly feels that he should be champion, having had Steiner pinned after the Scorpion Death Drop with the referee down. Sting also made Big Poppa Pump tap to the Scorpion Deathlock after the match, but when probed about this following the show, Steiner claimed it doesn't count because it wasn't in an official bout, so history will show that he actually never tapped. Expect Eric Bischoff to clear this situation up tomorrow night on Nitro.

The Last Man Standing Match ended up being one of the most brutal matches in WCW history and both Diamond Dallas Page and Chris Kanyon ultimately could not get to their feet and beat the ten count. Both combatants were severely banged up after the contest - Page's knee in particular was in pretty bad shape - and they will each be out of action for several weeks. DDP was not happy in the slightest at Kanyon bringing Page's estranged wife Kimberly back to the company in order to play mind games with DDP.

Totally Buff are the new WCW World Tag Team Champions, winning what effectively became a handicap match against Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo when O'Haire was injured outside the ring and couldn't continue. O'Haire was diagnosed with a mild concussion after the match and will miss a few weeks of action. With this victory, Buff Bagwell becomes a six-time tag champion, while this is Lex Luger's third reign. Speaking of the tag team division here in WCW, new signees Maximum Force - Simon Diamond and Johnny Swinger - make their in-ring debut tomorrow night on Nitro.

Bill Goldberg made short work of Rick Steiner tonight, squashing him quickly despite Ric Flair's interference. Goldberg has already ran Road Warrior Animal out of the company as his mission to eliminate the Magnificent Seven gathers pace. Who's next??

Shawn Stasiak captured his first singles title in WCW, defeating Booker T for the US Championship. However, he needed a distraction from Stacy Keibler and a weapon in the shape of the US Title belt to get the job done. Booker will not be taking this lying down.

The bitter personal feud between Jeff Jarrett and Jesse James Armstrong shows no sign of drawing to a close as both men went at it tooth and nail tonight. The referee lost all control of their bout and disqualified Armstrong when he shoved him down. The fight continued after the bell, where Jarrett wrapped an electrical cable around Armstrong's throat and choked him out! Armstrong suffered a damaged trachea in the attack and is having trouble speaking.

In the six man cruiserweight tag opener, Jason Jett scored the pin over Cruiserweight Champion Shane Helms with a backslide. Jett faces Helms for the title tomorrow night on Nitro, but there is no way that Helms can be at 100% as he ended up with a badly sprained back as a result of the beatdown by KroniK after the match. It has since emerged that Jett paid off KroniK to soften up Helms. KroniK are all about cashing checks and breaking necks, and they cashed a check at the expense of Shane Helms tonight. This shows that there are literally no depths Jason Jett will stoop to in order to capture cruiserweight gold.

You can't afford to miss Nitro tomorrow night and it is sure to be a newsworthy show as we bring you all the follow up to Slamboree! See you tomorrow night!!

WCW Monday Nitro
June 18th, 2001
Civic Center, Providence, RI
Your commentators are Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Jerry "The King" Lawler.

The show opened with stills from the matches at last night's Slamboree pay-per-view. After the opening pyro, Tony Schiavone hyped up tonight's main event in which Shane Helms will defend the WCW Cruiserweight Title against Jason Jett.

Ric Flair marched out to the ring to loud "Woooo!"s from the crowd. Flair was visibly furious and took his jacket off, throwing it to the mat, before grabbing the microphone. Flair addressed Bill Goldberg, claiming that he was refusing to stand back and watch Goldberg tear apart the faction he built. Flair wasn't waiting for Goldberg to reveal the identity of his next victim and called Da Man out right now!! As the announcers pondered whether or not Flair had completely lost his mind, Kevin Nash's music hit and Big Sexy made his way down to the ring to a nice ovation.

Kevin Nash said that Ric Flair should forget about Goldberg and worry about him instead! Nash said he hadn't forgotten about last February at SuperBrawl, when Flair kept interfering freely and changing the rules in his match so that he lost to Scott Steiner and was forced to leave the company. Nash angrily blamed Flair for losing his job and taking food off his young son's table. Nash said that when Eric Bischoff called him up and asked him to return to the company, he eagerly accepted because it gave him the chance to rid WCW of Ric Flair, once and for all! Big Sexy lunged at the Nature Boy, grabbing him by the throat and lifting him up for a choke slam! However, Flair raked Nash's eyes and rolled out of the ring, escaping to the back!

Triangle Match:
Jung Dragons (Kaz Hayashi and Yang) defeated Air Raid (Air Paris and AJ Styles)
and Cash and Jamie Knoble when Yang pinned Styles with the Yang Time in
          0:13:34.
Rating: *** 1/2
[Leia Meow interfered against Cash.]
[Leia Meow interfered against AJ Styles.]

The opener featured three of the premier cruiserweight tag teams in the company in a compelling battle. Leia Meow's Jung Dragons emerged victorious when Yang hit AJ Styles with his corkscrew moonsault.

Jeremy Borash conducted an interview with the number one contenders to the Cruiserweight Tag Team Titles, Kid Romeo and Elix Skipper. They'll challenge Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr on next week's show. Skipper reminded everybody that they lost the belts in a triple threat match and they weren't even the team that was pinned in that bout. Skipper lauded the two singles victories that he and Romeo have over the champions and predicted they would take the belts in seven days.

Bam Bam Bigelow came out and cut a promo on Malice, claiming he was sick of Malice beating up the cruiserweights. Bigelow invited Malice to come down to the ring and pick on someone his own size! Don Callis led Malice out to accept the challenge!

Bam Bam Bigelow defeated Malice by disqualification in 0:05:55.
Rating: -1/2*

This bout was a sluggish brawl between two powerhouses. Don Callis slid a table into the ring so Malice could choke slam Bam Bam Bigelow through it. However, when the official stepped in to prevent Malice from completing the move, Malice smashed the referee through the table instead!

Malice and Bam Bam Bigelow brawled all the way to the back following their bout.

Backstage, Scott Hudson interviewed Chris Kanyon, along with Kimberly. Kanyon was in bad shape, selling his injuries from last night's Last Man Standing Match with Diamond Dallas Page. Kimberly was mad at Okerlund referring to her as "Kimberly Page", wanting to be called only "Kimberly" from now on. Kimberly said she wanted to see her ex-husband suffer and that Kanyon was just the man to do it.

New WCW United States Champion "The Mecca of Manhood" Shawn Stasiak, along with the beautiful Stacy Keibler, made his way down to the ring to gloat about his victory at Slamboree as pictures of himself rained down from the ceiling into the crowd. Stasiak put over his US Title win, claiming that it was about time that he was appreciated by the people in this company. Stasiak said that he had been brooding in the shadows for too long, but like a magnificent swan he was now stretching his wings and being all he can be. Stasiak turned on the fans, saying that while he's up doing squat thrusts it seems like the majority the crowd spend their time sat at home hugging their mothers and stuffing their cakeholes! Stasiak said that while he reaches for the brass ring, all of the fans reach for the onion ring!

Booker T had heard enough and made his way out. Booker said that Shawn Stasiak stole the US Title at Slamboree and now he was coming to get it back! The crowd cheered as Booker hit the ring, but Stasiak cowered behind Stacy Keibler, using her as a human shield! Stasiak then quickly dropped and rolled out of the ring, doing a runner to the back! Booker T was left frustrated in the middle of the ring.

Maximum Force (Simon Diamond and Johnny Swinger) defeated
The Mamalukes (Big Vito and Johnny the Bull) when Swinger pinned Johnny the Bull
after the Problem Solver in 0:10:22.
Rating: ** 1/4

The team of Maximum Force, along with the lovely Dawn Marie, looked very impressive in their WCW debut tonight on Nitro and will certainly be a force to be reckoned with in the tag team division. Simon Diamond and Johnny Swinger put away Johnny the Bull with their flapjack DDT combination finisher, known as the Problem Solver.

Gene Okerlund interviewed Jesse James Armstrong in the back. Armstrong showed off the red marks on his neck, a result of the attack by Jeff Jarrett after their match last night. Armstrong spoke with a raspy voice due to his damaged windpipe suffered after Jarrett choked him out with a length of cable. Armstrong coldly warned The Chosen One that the war between them had only just begun.

Mike Tenay revealed that Jeff Jarrett would be in action on next week's show.

Crowbar and Daffney defeated Lance Storm and Major Gunns when Daffney pinned
Gunns with the Frankenscreamer in 0:06:46.
Rating: ** 1/2

While Lance Storm and Crowbar brawled on the outside of the ring, Daffney kicked Major Gunns in the face as Gunns charged into the corner. Daffney then pinned Gunns with the Frankenscreamer.

Back from commercial and Mike Awesome had joined Lance Storm and Major Gunns in the ring. Storm had the microphone and said it was time to get serious. He blamed Major Gunns for their loss tonight and fired her. Storm said that now they had gotten rid of the trash, Team Canada can now move forward and grow bigger and stronger. His comments did not sit well with Gunns, who slapped Storm across the face! Storm grabbed Gunns by the hair and he and Awesome threatened her, which brought out the chivalrous Dustin Rhodes to make the save!

Jeremy Borash interviewed "Sugar" Shane Helms ahead of his Cruiserweight Title defence against Jason Jett. Helms panned Jett for paying off KroniK to take him out and said that the doctors had advised him not to compete tonight due to his injured back. Helms said he would never give Jett the satisfaction of forfeiting a match or a title to him and said that his bad back wouldn't stop him dropping Jett in the Vertebreaker tonight!

Jason Jett defeated Shane Helms by countout in 0:13:26.
Rating: *** 1/2
(Shane Helms retained the WCW Cruiserweight Championship.)

Jason Jett did a real number on Shane Helms' back as he exploited the weakness in his opponent. Jett worked the back with an upside down rocking horse submission hold. Helms showed good fire, scoring near falls off the X-Plex and the Nightmare on Helms Street. After Helms missed a tope, Jett did a great DDT off the apron. The finish came with both men fighting on the ring apron. Helms tried to suplex Jett back into the ring, but Jett reversed it into the Crash Landing off the apron to the floor! Helms thrashed about on the mats at ringside, clutching his injured back in agony. Helms couldn't beat the official's count and was counted out.

It dawned on Jason Jett soon after that although he had won the match, the title remained with Shane Helms. Jett lost it, attacking Helms at ringside and he had to be dragged to the back.

Back from commercial and the crowd came alive as Sting made his entrance. Sting took the mike and addressed Scott Steiner and the events that went down at Slamboree. The Stinger said that the whole world saw that he had Steiner beat with the Scorpion Death Drop. He added that everybody had witnessed Big Poppa Pump tap to the Scorpion Deathlock after the match was over. Sting said that nothing was settled last night and demanded another shot at the WCW World Heavyweight Title. Sting said that the young boys in the back need a champion they can look up to and respect. He concluded by saying that if Steiner had an ounce of integrity, he would accept the challenge.

WCW World Heavyweight Champion "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner emerged from the back to loud boos and jeers. Steiner said he didn't need to accept anything and didn't care about the opinion of the punks in the back. Steiner said that Sting had his shot at the title and he blew it. Steiner claimed that Sting wouldn't get another shot at the title, but added that he would be happy to give Sting a beating to within an inch of his life! Big Poppa Pump produced his lead pipe and walked down the ramp to the ring! As Steiner entered the squared circle, Sting unveiled a hidden baseball bat! Just as the two men were about to go at it, Eric Bischoff quickly ran out and called a halt to the confrontation!!

Eric Bischoff announced that Scott Steiner was wrong and Sting would get another shot at the title. Bischoff revealed that he had booked a no holds barred rematch for the WCW Title at the Great American Bash on Sunday, July 15th! Bischoff claimed that he had a lot of money invested in another match between Sting and Scott Steiner, so he was reinstituting the "No touch" rule, meaning that neither man can lay a finger on the other until the pay-per-view. Bischoff stipulated that if either man violates these terms, they'll face an indefinite suspension. The crowd desperately wanted to see them go at it. Bischoff said that he would see both men on next week's edition of Nitro, where they would sign the contract for their match at the Great American Bash! Sting and Steiner both seemed aggrieved by Bischoff's announcement as the show drew to a close.

Card rating: **

Circuit information:
The Bisch dropped a huge bombshell at the end of tonight's show, granting Sting another shot at the WCW World Heavyweight Title. The rematch is set for the Great American Bash and this time it will be contested under a no holds barred stipulation. Eric Bischoff has also prohibited Sting and Scott Steiner from laying a finger on each other until the pay-per-view on July 15th. With relations already strained between these two competitors, will Sting and Steiner possibly be able to abide by Bischoff's stipulation when they sign the contract for their title match on next week's show??

Jason Jett was unsuccessful in capturing the Cruiserweight Title from Shane Helms in tonight's main event of Monday Nitro. Although Jett won the bout, it was via count out so Jett does not get the title. Jett was hoping that all the underhand tactics he has used in recent weeks to soften Helms up would pay off, but he came up a little short tonight. Perhaps Jett is a little insecure at his own ability and he is certainly struggling to get over his pinfall loss to Helms at the Big Bang. Jason Jett wasted no time after the show in calling Eric Bischoff's office to demand another crack at the title.

Kevin Nash made his intentions known tonight of running Ric Flair out of WCW. Nash accused Flair of ending his WCW career prematurely at February's SuperBrawl pay-per-view, when Nash challenged Scott Steiner for the WCW Title. Nash fell victim to Flair continually changing the rules of the bout to suit the champion and ultimately lost the bout, forcing him to leave the company. Now Big Sexy is back, which is bad news for Flair and his crumbling Magnificent Seven group.

Lance Storm dumped Major Gunns from Team Canada tonight after the duo dropped a mixed tag match to Crowbar and Daffney. Storm has vowed to get more serious and make Team Canada stronger than ever. Gunns did not take this turn of events well and attacked Storm, but before Team Canada could do their worst to the blonde bombshell, Dustin Rhodes made the save.

There are two huge title matches on next week's edition of Monday Nitro. Rey Mysterio Jr and Billy Kidman will defend their Cruiserweight Tag Team Titles against the inaugural champions Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo. Skipper and Romeo have had the number of the champions in recent weeks, so I would suggest that the chances of a title change are high. Also, Booker T has invoked his rematch clause and will face Shawn Stasiak for the US Title. Booker is irate at the manner of how Stasiak captured the title last night at Slamboree and will be keen to regain the gold as quickly as possible. In addition to these bouts, sparks are sure to fly as Scott Steiner and Sting sign the contract for their no holds barred WCW Title match at the Great American Bash! Don't you dare miss it!!

WCW Monday Nitro
June 25th, 2001
MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, NV
Your commentators are Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Jerry "The King" Lawler.

Monday Nitro opened with Tony Schiavone hyping up the two title matches on the show tonight. "The Mecca of Manhood" Shawn Stasiak will defend his US Championship against Booker T in a rematch from Slamboree, while in the opening contest Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr put their Cruiserweight Tag Team Titles against Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo.

Filthy Animals (Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr.) defeated
Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo when Kidman pinned Skipper with the Kid Krusher in
          0:14:37.
Rating: *** 3/4
(Filthy Animals retained the WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship.)

The first match of Nitro tonight was a thrilling battle which could have gone either way. The Filthy Animals managed to hold on to their titles when Billy Kidman executed the Kid Krusher on Elix Skipper after Rey Mysterio Jr had wiped out Kid Romeo with a jaw-dropping springboard somersault plancha.

Backstage, an anxious Ric Flair caught up with Mike Sanders. Flair said that he needed another favour but Sanders seemed reluctant, considering that the previous "favours" Flair had asked of him were to take out Bill Goldberg and Sting. Flair asked Sanders to face Kevin Nash tonight and told Sanders to trust him as he had a plan. Eager to impress, Sanders hesitantly agreed to help the Nature Boy.

Lance Storm made Ernest Miller submit to the Canadian Maple Leaf in 0:06:29.
Rating: **
[Ms. Jones interfered against Lance Storm.]

The new ultra-serious Lance Storm breezed past The Cat tonight with an impressive performance. Storm made Ernest Miller tap to the Canadian Maple Leaf and kept the hold locked on for a few extra seconds after the bell in order to punish Miller further.

Jeremy Borash conducted an interview with Dustin Rhodes and Major Gunns, who is now going by her real name, Tylene. Rhodes said he couldn't stand back and watch Team Canada treat Tylene like dirt last week. Rhodes added that real men don't treat women the way Lance Storm and Mike Awesome did and challenged one of them to be man enough to face him next week on Nitro.

Tony Schiavone announced that on next week's edition of Monday Nitro, Shane Helms and Jason Jett will battle for the Cruiserweight Title in what will be their third match in just under two months. Apparently both champion and challenger are eager to settle the score once and for all.

As Mike Sanders, full of trepidation, came out for his match with Kevin Nash it was revealed that Nash will face Ric Flair in a singles bout at the Great American Bash.

Kevin Nash pinned Mike Sanders after a choke slam in 0:03:00.
Rating: 1/2*

Kevin Nash made short work of Mike Sanders, putting him away with a choke slam. After the match, Nash addressed Ric Flair, saying "This one's for you!" and set up Sanders for the Jackknife. However, Ric Flair emerged from under the ring and attacked Nash, taking him down with a chop block to the knee! Flair revived Sanders and the two men set about destroying Nash's knee. With the crowd chanting for Scott Hall, Sanders and Flair dragged Nash over to the corner of the ring, where they placed Nash's knee against the ringpost. Flair went back under the ring and produced a giant cinderblock! Sanders then held Nash's leg in place as Flair smashed the cinderblock against Nash's knee, crushing it against the post as the fans fell silent! Nash was in a considerable amount of distress, clutching at his knee in unbearable pain! Meanwhile, Flair and Sanders mocked Nash by hobbling around ringside as EMTs rushed down to tend to Big Sexy.

Kevin Nash was shown being helped to the back by the EMTs for further treatment during the commercial break.

Shawn Stasiak pinned Booker T with the Hangman's Neckbreaker in 0:12:42.
Rating: ***
(Shawn Stasiak retained the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship.)
[Stacy Keibler interfered against Booker T.]

Shawn Stasiak and Stacy Keibler tried to pull another fast one on Booker T again tonight, using the same trick that had worked so well for them at Slamboree. Stacy entered the ring, only to fall again and "twist her ankle", but Booker was having none of it and dumped her out of the ring. Amidst the chaos, Stasiak once again grabbed the US Title belt, but this time Booker ducked the belt shot and floored the Mecca of Manhood with a jumping side kick! Booker took the title belt and went to use it on Stasiak, but referee Charles Robinson stopped him and snatched the belt away from Booker. As Booker protested with the official, Stasiak used a low blow and followed up with a neckbreaker to retain the title!

Backstage, Rob Van Dam, who had been watching the action unfold on a monitor, told Scott Hudson that he was embarrassed that Shawn Stasiak was the US Champion. RVD said that he wanted a shot at the title in order to bring much-needed prestige and honour back to the championship.

Rob Van Dam made his entrance for his singles match just as Shawn Stasiak and Stacy Keibler were leaving the ringside area after Stasiak's successful title defence. RVD and Stasiak began arguing in the aisle and it didn't take long for a scuffle to break out. Officials and road agents managed to separate the two men and Stasiak was escorted to the back.

Rob Van Dam pinned Alex Wright with his special move in 0:05:59.
Rating: ** 3/4
[Disco Inferno interfered against Rob Van Dam.]

This bout was notable for more miscommunication between The Boogie Knights. With Rob Van Dam in control of the bout, Disco Inferno threw in a chair for his partner Alex Wright to use. As the official admonished Inferno for his actions, Wright picked up the chair. However, RVD stunned Wright with the Van Daminator and the pin quickly followed!

Backstage, Scott Hudson interviewed Chris Kanyon and Kimberly. Kanyon challenged Diamond Dallas Page to an I Quit Match at the Great American Bash, since nothing was settled between them at Slamboree. Kanyon said he wanted to embarrass his rival, since saying "I Quit" is a sign of admitted inferiority and everybody knows that Page is inferior to Kanyon. Kimberly added that when Page utters those two little words, he'll never be able to show his face in WCW ever again.

A video package was shown building up the return to WCW of cruiserweight star Blitzkrieg. Highlights were shown of Blitzkrieg's stunning bouts with the likes of Juventud Guerrera, Psicosis and Rey Mysterio Jr. during his run with the company in 1999. Mike Tenay excitedly revealed that Blitzkrieg would return to the ring when the now all-cruiserweight Thunder show reappears on our screens on July 18th!

New WCW signing "Miracle" Mikey Henderson made his way out for his debut. Mike Tenay provided viewers with some background on the 20-year old, revealing that he starred in the film "The Suicide Kid - The Story of Mikey Henderson", which is about a professional wrestler who is also pursuing a career as an actor. Henderson has a great look, is a talented worker and could be a player in the WCW cruiserweight division. He'll have his work cut out tonight though as he faces Jeff Jarrett.

Mikey Henderson pinned Jeff Jarrett after an inside cradle in 0:05:05.
Rating: *** 1/4
[Jesse James Armstrong interfered against Jeff Jarrett.]

Mikey Henderson clicked really well with Jeff Jarrett, but I doubt anybody really expected him to come away with a victory in his debut! Henderson used an Asai moonsault bodyblock, a Frankensteiner and a DDT on the Chosen One, but Jarrett took control with a Hotshot and began to punish the youngster. Jarrett set Henderson up for the Stroke, when Jesse James Armstrong walked down the ramp holding a dog collar! Jarrett threw Henderson down and told Armstrong to get lost, when suddenly Henderson shocked the world and rolled Jarrett up for the three count!!

Mikey Henderson was in complete disbelief at this huge win, but quickly bailed into the crowd when Jeff Jarrett went after him! Henderson celebrated with the fans as Jarrett turned his attention to Jesse James Armstrong. Armstrong nailed Jarrett in the gut with the dog collar chain, then wrapped the chain around Jarrett's face and hurled him to the ground! Armstrong choked Jarrett with the chain until security stepped in and dragged Armstrong off.

A Bill Goldberg promo aired. Goldberg said that Road Warrior Animal and Rick Steiner were history, so now there are five left in the Magnificent Seven. Goldberg promised to reveal his next target on Nitro next week!

WCW World Tag Team Champions Totally Buff came down to the ring and cut a promo. Lex Luger took the mike and put over their championship win at Slamboree, making them the greatest tag team in professional wrestling. Buff Bagwell addressed Bill Goldberg's comments, saying they weren't worried if Goldberg comes after them. Buff said they had sent Goldberg packing from the company once and they would do it again!

Chuck Palumbo appeared at the entrance way and told the champions that it isn't Goldberg they should be worried about, but rather he and Sean O'Haire. Palumbo said that the only reason that Totally Buff have the gold right now is because O'Haire got hurt at the pay-per-view. Palumbo revealed that O'Haire would be back sooner than you think and then they would recapture the titles. Luger retorted that O'Haire and Palumbo would have to work their way back into contention as they were now back at the bottom of the ladder. Palumbo challenged one of the champions to face him right now, with the stipulation that if Palumbo wins, he and O'Haire will get their title rematch next week! Buoyed by the fact that Sean O'Haire is out with a concussion and not here at Nitro, Buff Bagwell accepted the challenge!

Chuck Palumbo pinned Buff Bagwell with the Jungle Kick in 0:08:15.
Rating: ** 3/4
[Lex Luger interfered against Chuck Palumbo.]
[Sean O'Haire interfered against Buff Bagwell.]

Lex Luger interfered freely behind the official's back during this bout and just like at Slamboree, it appeared that the odds would be too much for Chuck Palumbo. However, after Luger tripped Palumbo, Sean O'Haire made his way out from the back to a huge pop! Buff Bagwell had Palumbo in position for the Buff Blockbuster, but saw O'Haire walking down the ramp and frantically tried to warn Luger to turn around! The Total Package did so and walked straight into a hard right from O'Haire. Bagwell got his mind back on the match and went for a flying axhandle, but Palumbo countered with a superkick and scored the pinfall! The Tag Team Titles will be on the line next week!!

Contract signing - Eric Bischoff, Sting and Scott Steiner, with Midajah
There was a table set up in the ring with two chairs and the contracts for the no holds barred WCW Championship Match at the Great American Bash. Eric Bischoff introduced the two participants, challenger Sting and WCW World Champion "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner, who was accompanied by his number one freak Midajah. As both men stared each other down, Bischoff reminded them of the proviso in place that prevents them from laying so much as a finger on each other until the pay-per-view. Bischoff said that he knew they were unhappy about that and wanted to tear each other limb from limb, so in order to appease them he was going to allow both Sting and Steiner to pick an opponent for one another with the matches taking place on next week's show!

Sting took the mike and said he was looking forward to taking the title at the Great American Bash. Sting said that the Bash had been good to him over the years, as he had won the NWA World Heavyweight Title, the WCW United States Title and the WCW Tag Team Titles at previous Bash events. Sting said that he would be a champion that the young boys in the back could look up to and respect. Sting added that he takes his position as a veteran in the locker room very seriously and would set a better example than Steiner as champion. When pressed by Eric Bischoff about who he would choose as Big Poppa Pump's opponent next week, Sting revealed that it would be Booker T. Sting said he'd seen Booker in the back after his match with Shawn Stasiak tonight and he was pissed. Sting said that Booker would jump at the chance to kick Steiner's ass, as Booker hates Steiner almost as much as he does!!

Angered by Sting's choice, Scott Steiner grabbed the mike off Eric Bischoff and repeated his view that Sting shouldn't even be getting another shot at his title, because Steiner beat his ass at Slamboree. Steiner said he was sick of Sting going on about being a locker room leader and how Sting mentors the younger stars. Big Poppa Pump revealed that he was going to use the opportunity Bischoff had given him not to soften up Sting, but rather to corrupt Sting and rob him of his integrity! Steiner said he would make Sting face "one of those young punks like Shannon Moore" next week. Sting looked suspiciously at Steiner, who then revealed that best part of it would be that the match would be contested under First Blood rules!! Sting was furious as Big Poppa Pump warned that the boys in the back wouldn't respect him any more when he beats up and bloodies one of the young guys! Steiner added that he didn't want to see a trickle of blood or a broken nose next week, he wanted Sting to crack their skull open!

Sting protested to Eric Bischoff, but Bischoff said that there was nothing he could do. Sting got in Scott Steiner's face and the two men argued, before Steiner spat in Sting's face!! Steiner laughed and left the ring, while Sting went into a fit of rage, smashing up the table and chairs as Nitro went off-air!

Card rating: ***

Circuit information:
Scott Steiner succeeded in getting into the head of Sting tonight ahead of their no holds barred WCW Title showdown at the Great American Bash. Eric Bischoff allowed each man to choose an opponent for the other on next week's show and Steiner is forcing Sting to face Shannon Moore in a First Blood Match! This means that if Sting wants to win, he has to make one of the brightest young stars in the company bleed. Steiner is trying to undermine Sting's position as a mentor to the younger wrestlers by booking this match and it is obvious that Sting is struggling to come to terms with this. Meanwhile, Steiner has a tough match ahead of him next week as Sting chose Booker T as Steiner's opponent. Booker is frustrated after dropping another match to Shawn Stasiak tonight and he can release some of that pent up aggression on the WCW Champion next week!

Ric Flair and Mike Sanders perpetrated a sickening attack on Kevin Nash tonight, destroying his knee by smashing it with a cinder block! Luckily, it appears that the block connected more with the ringpost than Nash's knee, but damage was still done. Nash's knee problems are well documented. A knee injury sidelined his promising basketball career and he missed significant ring time in 1997 when he was out after orthoscopic knee surgery. Flair - the dirtiest player in the game - was obviously well aware of this and concocted a plan to take Nash out. Nash has vowed to be ready for the Great American Bash and his singles bout with Flair, but he was in serious pain after tonight's events and I have doubts that he'll be fit in time for the pay-per-view.

"Miracle" Mikey Henderson debuted in WCW tonight and we certainly all witnessed a miracle as he defeated former multiple time WCW World Champion Jeff Jarrett in his very first match! Of course, he has to thank Jesse James Armstrong for distracting Jarrett during the match with a dog collar, giving him the chance to roll Jarrett up. Armstrong got a measure of revenge on Jarrett tonight by throttling him with the dog collar chain after Jarrett had choked him out with a cable at Slamboree. The two men will clash again at the Great American Bash, this time in a Dog Collar Match!

Chuck Palumbo and Sean O'Haire earned a shot at the WCW Tag Team Titles on next week's show after Palumbo defeated Buff Bagwell in a singles match tonight. Palumbo and O'Haire outsmarted the champions, as when Palumbo made the challenge he knew that O'Haire was in the building. You have to wonder if O'Haire is stepping back into the ring too soon though, as it was just over a week ago that he suffered a concussion at Slamboree.

Here's how the card is shaping up for the Great American Bash, live on pay-per-view on Sunday night, July 15th:

WCW World Heavyweight Championship No Holds Barred Match:
Scott Steiner vs. Sting

Dog Collar Match:
Jesse James Armstrong vs. Jeff Jarrett

Kevin Nash vs. Ric Flair

We'll hopefully find out on next week's edition of Monday Nitro if Diamond Dallas Page accepts Kanyon's challenge for an I Quit Match at the Bash. Also, Shane Helms will defend the Cruiserweight Title against Jason Jett once again. All this, in addition to the Tag Team Title Match and the Sting vs. Shannon Moore and Scott Steiner vs. Booker T matches makes next week's show unmissable! See you next week!!

WCW Monday Nitro
July 2nd, 2001
MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, NV
Your commentators are Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Jerry "The King" Lawler.

Monday Nitro opened with a video package featuring last week's contract signing between Scott Steiner and Sting. Eric Bischoff allowed each man to select an opponent for the other on tonight's show, setting up this evening's bouts between Steiner and Booker T and also Sting against Shannon Moore in a First Blood Match! After the pyro show, Tony Schiavone plugged tonight's two other feature matches, which see Totally Buff defending the WCW Tag Team Titles against Chuck Palumbo and Sean O'Haire and Shane Helms puts his Cruiserweight Title on the line against Jason Jett.

Shane Helms and Jason Jett battled to a double pin in 0:11:32.
Rating: *** 1/2
(Shane Helms retained the WCW Cruiserweight Championship.)

This was another closely fought battle between Shane Helms and Jason Jett, in which Jett was receiving his third crack at the Cruiserweight gold. The bout ended controversially as Jett went for the Afterburner slingshot somersault clothesline, but Helms ducked out of the way and Jett knocked referee Mickey Jay out of the ring. Jett then fought out of the Vertebreaker and hit the Crash Landing, but there was no official to count! Senior official Nick Patrick eventually hit the ring, but Helms kicked out at two! Helms planted Jett with the X-Plex and Patrick counted to three...but both men thought they had won??

Jason Jett celebrated after the match, claiming that he got his shoulder up before the three count. Nick Patrick concurred and raised Jett's hand, but Mickey Jay, who had recovered in time to see the finish, disagreed with Patrick and said that he saw Helms get his shoulder up and not Jett, so Helms retains! Helms and Jett argued furiously with one another, each man insisting that they had won the bout. Eric Bischoff then made his way out to settle the disagreement. Bischoff said that he wasn't sure who won the match, but he was sure that there hadn't been a clear winner and that was not satisfactory. Bischoff announced that he was holding the title up and that Shane Helms and Jason Jett would face each other one final time to determine the undisputed champion at the Great American Bash - in a Ladder Match!! Eric Bischoff left the ring with the Cruiserweight Title belt, leaving Helms and Jett in disbelief!

Backstage, Jeremy Borash interviewed KroniK, who had requested some interview time. Brian Adams said that it was all very well breaking necks and cashing checks, but the real money was in championship gold. Bryan Clarke declared that they were challenging the winners of tonight's Tag Team Title Match.

Dustin Rhodes defeated Mike Awesome by disqualification in 0:06:50.
Rating: ** 3/4
[Lance Storm interfered against Dustin Rhodes.]

Dustin Rhodes, who was accompanied to the ring by Tylene, had challenged one of the members of Team Canada to face him this week and it was Mike Awesome who took up the gauntlet. Awesome missed his splash off the top and Rhodes then set up the Canadian Killer for the Dustbuster. Before he could complete the move, Lance Storm jumped him from behind, causing the disqualification.

Lance Storm and Mike Awesome put the boots to Dustin Rhodes while Tylene begged them to stop. Team Canada were doing quite a number on Rhodes until a chair swinging Rob Van Dam sprinted down to the ring to make the save. Storm and Awesome backed off, while a groggy Rhodes thanked Van Dam. Rhodes then took the mike and challenged Team Canada to face him and RVD next week. Storm accepted the bout.

WCW United States Champion Shawn Stasiak had been watching events unfold backstage and looked disgusted. Stasiak said that he saw Rob Van Dam's comments on last week's show and was amused that RVD was requesting a shot at his title. Stasiak said that Van Dam had only been with the company for five minutes and achieved nothing, so why did he deserve a title shot? Stasiak sneeringly remarked that Van Dam was a great acrobat and was really good at kicking chairs into people's faces, but RVD isn't in his league as a wrestler and if Van Dam thinks he has earned a crack at the gold, he's dreaming.

Tony Schiavone received word from Eric Bischoff's office that on next week's show, Shawn Stasiak will team with Jeff Jarrett to battle the team of Booker T and Jesse James Armstrong.

Jerry Lynn pinned Chavo Guerrero Jr. with the Cradle Piledriver in 0:10:24.
Rating: ****

Jerry Lynn defeated Chavo Guerrero in a breathtaking match which further strengthened the argument that World Championship Wrestling's cruiserweight division is the best in the world. Mike Tenay reminded viewers that you will soon be able to watch a whole hour of thrilling cruiserweight action each and every week when Thunder returns on Wednesday night, July 18th!

Backstage, Sting sat down with Shannon Moore and explained that their First Blood Match tonight was nothing personal. Sting said that Scott Steiner had manipulated him into the bout and he wanted no part of it, but Sting was being forced to compete. Sting promised to make Steiner pay at the Great American Bash. Sting added that he was not going out with the intention of hurting Moore tonight and hoped that the youngster understood. Moore answered that he did and said that he still respected the Stinger. Sting apologised to Moore, saying he regretted Moore getting caught up in the crossfire between him and Big Poppa Pump, before the two men shook hands.

Scott Hudson interviewed an excited Mikey Henderson, putting over his debut win against Jeff Jarrett last week. Henderson said he had been pinching himself ever since last week's show, saying that a win over a former World Champion in his very first match is the stuff dreams are made of! Suddenly out of nowhere, Jeff Jarrett smashed his guitar over Mikey Henderson's head, flooring the youngster! Jarrett snatched the mike off Hudson, looked into the camera and addressed Jesse James Armstrong. Jarrett said that Armstrong had embarrassed him last week. The Chosen One warned that next week they'll be on opposite sides in a tag team match and he will have his revenge!

Booker T defeated Scott Steiner by disqualification in 0:13:18.
Rating: ****
[Midajah interfered against Booker T.]

These two men collided in a tremendous contest which began with a brawl in the crowd. Scott Steiner used a clothesline, an elbowdrop and a top-rope Samoan Drop on the man he defeated for the title last year at Mayhem, but Booker T came back and scored a succession of near falls off a neckbreaker, a roll up and a missile dropkick. Booker connected with the ax kick, but Midajah handed Steiner the lead pipe and Big Poppa Pump hit Booker in the knee with it, getting himself disqualified.

Scott Steiner began beating on the ref and some other officials after the match. He went to do further damage on Booker T with the pipe, but Sting ran out and snatched the pipe out of his hands! Shocked, Steiner then fell victim to a Book End, before Booker went up to and delivered a Harlem Hangover to the WCW Champion. Sting looked pleased as the crowd roared.

Scott Steiner was shown going mental during the commercial break, smashing things up backstage while Midajah tried in vain to calm him down.

The announcers began hyping the upcoming WCW Tag Team Title Match, but they were interrupted by an unscheduled appearance from Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo. Skipper took the mike and claimed that a huge miscarriage of justice had gone down last week. Skipper instructed the truck to roll footage of the finish to last week's Cruiserweight Tag Team Title Match, where Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr retained the titles over Skipper and Romeo. Skipper informed everyone that the footage clearly showed Billy Kidman was not the legal man when he pinned Skipper to win the match. The announce team agreed that the evidence was there for everyone to see. Skipper said that he and Romeo were not going to leave the ring until Eric Bischoff rectified the situation. Bischoff emerged from the back and muttered that he hoped that there would be less controversy with the cruiserweights when they get their own show. Bischoff sympathised with Skipper and Romeo and said the match last week was so good that he was sure the fans wouldn't mind seeing the two teams hook up one more time. The crowd voiced their approval, so Bischoff booked a two out of three falls rematch for the Great American Bash!

Chuck Palumbo and Sean O'Haire defeated
Totally Buff (Buff Bagwell and Lex Luger) when O'Haire pinned Luger with the
Seanton Bomb in 0:10:47.
Rating: * 1/2
(Chuck Palumbo and Sean O'Haire won the WCW World Tag Team Championship.)
[Bill Goldberg interfered against Lex Luger.]

The commentary team questioned Sean O'Haire's decision to return to competition this quickly after he was concussed two weeks ago at Slamboree and their fears that O'Haire was risking permanent damage looked on the verge of being realised as Totally Buff assaulted his head and neck. The second ref bump of the night occurred when O'Haire avoided Lex Luger's running forearm and Luger decked the official. With the referee down, Buff Bagwell brought a chair into the ring and smacked Palumbo across the back with it. The champions attempted to give O'Haire another concussion as they set him up for a dangerous spike piledriver onto the steel chair. However, at that moment the crowd exploded into cheers as Bill Goldberg ran down to the ring!! Luger let go of Buff and ran into a crunching spear from Goldberg, before Da Man brought Bagwell off the turnbuckles with a devastating powerslam! Goldberg drilled Bagwell with the Jackhammer onto his own partner Luger's body, who was sprawled out on the canvas! The fans had been sent into raptures as O'Haire climbed to the top rope and hit the Seanton Bomb on Luger! Goldberg threw the referee back into the ring, who then counted the fall! Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo are WCW Tag Team Champions for the second time!!

As Chuck Palumbo and Sean O'Haire celebrated their title win, Goldberg backed up the ramp, clearly pleased with his night's work! Goldberg's next targets have been revealed! After Goldberg left, Maximum Force made their way out to the top of the ramp and insincerely applauded the new champions.

Backstage, Diamond Dallas Page told Scott Hudson that he was accepting Chris Kanyon's challenge to face him in an I Quit Match at the Great American Bash. Page welcomed the opportunity of ending this feud once and for all in the most humiliating manner possible. Page threatened to beat Kanyon into submission rather than using wrestling holds! Suddenly, Kanyon attacked Page from behind and placed a plastic bag over his head, attempting to suffocate DDP! Security were able to intervene and restrain Kanyon, leaving Page gasping for air and struggling to breathe!

Sting was quite clearly enthusiastic at the prospect of locking up with Shannon Moore in a First Blood Match as he made his entrance for the main event. Prior to the match, Sting shook hands with Moore and again apologised to him.

First Blood Match:
Sting defeated Shannon Moore in 0:05:13.
Rating: ** 1/2

Despite giving up many years of experience to Sting, Shannon Moore really took the fight to the number one contender to the WCW Championship. Moore floored Sting with a corkscrew senton and when Sting rolled out to the floor, Moore landed on him with a spectacular somersault plancha! Outside the ring, Sting sent Moore head-first into the ringpost with a slingshot, busting Moore open.

The crestfallen Stinger helped the bloodied Shannon Moore back into the ring and called on the paramedics to come and help. Sting expressed his remorse once again to Moore and walked to the back, ashamed at himself. Scott Steiner was shown watching backstage and laughing at this turn of events. As Moore was being patched up by the doctors, Don Callis led Malice down to the ring with bad intentions in mind! The doctors scurried out of the ring as Malice grabbed Moore around the throat! Callis called for a choke slam, but Sting hit the ring again armed with his baseball bat and warned Malice not to do it! Malice threw Moore down and stared a hole in the Stinger, showing no intimidation at all! Callis instructed Malice to leave, claiming that now wasn't the time. Sting then raised Shannon Moore's hand in triumph to close out the show.

Card rating: ** 3/4

Circuit information:
Scott Steiner got what he wanted as he watched Sting bust open one of the young stars on the WCW roster, Shannon Moore. Steiner wanted to make Sting undermine his values and principles as the mind games continue ahead of the Great American Bash. However, Steiner's plan may have had an unexpected effect on Sting. When Sting was interviewed after the show, he said he now had a taste for blood and was determined to have Big Poppa Pump's blood on his hands at the Bash!

In the match that Sting selected for Scott Steiner, the WCW Champion was taken to the limit by Booker T. Steiner ended up getting disqualified for using the lead pipe and Sting foiled Steiner's plans to inflict further damage on Booker with the pipe. In the end, Booker laid out Steiner with his somersault legdrop, sending Big Poppa Pump flying into a rage backstage.

It's official - Diamond Dallas Page and Chris Kanyon will clash in an I Quit Match at the Great American Bash. Who knows what kind of carnage we can expect in just under two weeks in Omaha. These matches are notoriously barbaric and Kanyon's attempt to smother Page with a plastic bag tonight invoked memories of Ric Flair and Terry Funk's brutal feud in 1989. Thankfully, Page suffered no serious injuries in the attack and is more determined than ever to make Kanyon quit at the Bash.

Bill Goldberg cost Totally Buff the Tag Team Titles tonight in their match with Chuck Palumbo and Sean O'Haire, marking Buff Bagwell and Lex Luger as the next targets in his quest to destroy the Magnificent Seven group. Congratulations to Palumbo and O'Haire; Palumbo is now a five time champion, while it is the fourth time that O'Haire has held tag team gold.

Lots of controversy in the cruiserweight division tonight. Shane Helms and Jason Jett fought to a double pin in their Cruiserweight Title Match, which led to Eric Bischoff holding the belt up and booking a ladder match return bout at the Great American Bash to crown the undisputed champion. Also, Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo will challenge WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Champions Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr again at the Bash - this time in a Two out of Three Falls Match - after Skipper proved that the legal man did not score the winning fall in their encounter on last week's show.

Eric Bischoff added one more bout to the Great American Bash after the show went off air tonight. Bischoff has been impressed with the undefeated Rob Van Dam's performances in his WCW career thus far and, despite Shawn Stasiak's misgivings, he is giving RVD the chance to challenge for the US Title. Bischoff has booked Van Dam in a four corners match at the Bash which also includes former US Champions Lance Storm (3 reigns), Hugh Morrus (2) and Dustin Rhodes (2), with the winner earning a shot at the US Title. How will US Champion Shawn Stasiak react to this announcement?

Here's how the card is shaping up for the Great American Bash, live on pay-per-view on Sunday night, July 15th:

WCW World Heavyweight Championship No Holds Barred Match:
Scott Steiner vs. Sting

I Quit Match:
Diamond Dallas Page vs. Chris Kanyon

Dog Collar Match:
Jesse James Armstrong vs. Jeff Jarrett

Dustin Rhodes vs. Lance Storm vs. Hugh Morrus vs. Rob Van Dam

WCW Cruiserweight Championship Ladder Match:
Shane Helms vs. Jason Jett

Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo

Your commentators are Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Jerry "The King" Lawler.

Following the Nitro opening, Tony Schiavone plugged tonight's two feature tag team bouts: Lance Storm and Mike Awesome of Team Canada vs. Dustin Rhodes and Rob Van Dam, and US Champion Shawn Stasiak and Jeff Jarrett vs. Booker T and Jesse James Armstrong!

Maximum Force (Simon Diamond and Johnny Swinger) defeated
Crowbar and Lash LeRoux when Swinger pinned Crowbar with the Swing Thing in
0:08:50.
Rating: ***
[Daffney interfered against Simon Diamond.]
[Daffney interfered against Johnny Swinger.]
[Dawn Marie interfered against Crowbar.]

Simon Diamond and Johnny Swinger proved that they have what it takes to succeed in the WCW tag team division with an impressive win over the team of Crowbar and Lash LeRoux. Swinger picked up the win for his team when he pinned Crowbar with a cobra clutch into a Russian legsweep.

After the match, Simon Diamond took the microphone. Simon had a problem with what he'd seen in WCW since arriving one month ago. Diamond said that he'd watched Totally Buff win the titles with a two on one advantage in their match at Slamboree, then last week he saw Goldberg help Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo regain the gold with help from Goldberg, essentially giving them a three on two advantage. Diamond branded the tag team division in WCW a joke, but said that all hope was not lost. Diamond promised to make the division respectable again when Maximum Force have the belts around their waists.

Cash pinned Kwee Wee with the Money Maker in 0:10:37.
Rating: *** 1/4

After a solid bout in which Cash defeated Kwee Wee with the Money Maker, Mike Tenay officially announced that World Championship Wrestling had come to terms on a working agreement with the revolutionary Toryumon promotion in Japan. The company features grapplers trained by former WCW Cruiserweight Champion Ultimo Dragon and Toryumon stars such as Dragon Kid, Ricky Marvin and Ryo Saito will be performing next week on Thunder!

Jeremy Borash interviewed Jason Jett backstage. Jett said that Shane Helms had been lucky to hold on to the Cruiserweight Title for so long, but Helms' luck would run out at the Great American Bash. Jett predicted he would climb the ladder of success on Sunday and become the new Cruiserweight Champion.

Hugh Morrus pinned Alex Wright with the No Laughing Matter in 0:06:25.
Rating: **

Important win for Hugh Morrus here heading into that four corners match at the Great American Bash. Morrus defeated Alex Wright in a solid encounter with the moonsault.

After the match, Jeff Jarrett stormed down to the ring and attacked the official in the previous bout, Scott James! Jarrett tore off James' referee shirt and choked him with it. Tony Schiavone revealed that Scott James is actually Jesse James Armstrong's brother! Jarrett threw James out of the ring and continued the unprovoked attack on the floor. The Chosen One whipped the hapless official into the guardrail repeatedly, before removing some of the protective padding at ringside and driving James down to the concrete with the Stroke!! Officials and road agents arrived on the scene to prevent Jarrett doing any further damage. Jesse James Armstrong then rushed out to tend to his brother. Paramedics stretchered Scott James to the back during the commercial break.

Team Canada (Lance Storm and Mike Awesome) defeated
Rob Van Dam and Dustin Rhodes when L. Storm pinned D. Rhodes after
a small package in 0:13:49.
Rating: *** 1/2

This bout was set up on last week's show when Rob Van Dam saved Dustin Rhodes from a beating at the hands of Team Canada. Three of the four men involved in this tag team match - Dustin Rhodes, Lance Storm and Rob Van Dam - will compete in the four corners match at the Great American Bash to determine the number one contender to the US Title. RVD took out Mike Awesome with an amazing springboard somersault plancha! Storm secured the win for his team when he countered Rhodes' twisting suplex attempt with a small package.

Following the contest, Lance Storm looked into the camera and said that this win would be followed by another on Sunday, and then gold would be coming back to Team Canada.

Backstage, Jesse James Armstrong looked on concerned as his brother Scott James was loaded into an ambulance. The paramedics were taking James to a local medical facility for further treatment. Eric Bischoff showed up and said Armstrong could go and be with his brother. Bischoff then changed the scheduled tag team main event to a singles encounter between Booker T and Jeff Jarrett.

Ric Flair cut a promo on Kevin Nash. Flair said that he'd forced Nash to leave the company once before, but at the Great American Bash he was going to injure Nash so badly that Nash would never be able to come back to WCW! Flair added that after the Bash, he'd have sex with every girl in Omaha!

No-Countout-No-DQ-Falls-Count-Anywhere Match:
Malice pinned Bam Bam Bigelow after a superplex in 0:10:59.
Rating: *** 1/4
[Don Callis interfered against Bam Bam Bigelow.]

Malice and Bam Bam Bigelow had a wild brawl three weeks ago on Nitro which ended when Malice choke slammed the referee through a table. This rematch was fought under hardcore rules, which meant they could use all sorts of plunder on each other. Bigelow tried to smash Malice through a table with a flying headbutt, but Malice recovered and nailed Bigelow with a road sign! Malice then superplexed Bigelow off the top rope through the table for the pin!

After the match, Don Callis took the microphone and warned that bad things will happen when Malice is around. Callis stated that Malice loves to destroy the hopes and dreams of others.

Backstage, Totally Buff were incensed after Bill Goldberg cost them the WCW Tag Team Titles on last week's edition of Nitro. Buff Bagwell said that it was only six months ago when they defeated Goldberg and got him fired from the company. Lex Luger said they were challenging Goldberg to a match at the Great American Bash and promised that Goldberg's quest to destroy the Magnificent Seven would come to a screeching halt on Sunday!

Tony Schiavone announced that at the Great American Bash this Sunday, a real American hero would be in attendance. Schiavone revealed that Eric Bischoff had invited Rulon Gardner, the gold medallist in amateur wrestling at the Olympic Games last year in Sydney, to attend the event! Gardner went to college in Nebraska and is sure to receive a great ovation from the Omaha faithful on Sunday.

Booker T defeated Jeff Jarrett by disqualification in 0:12:14.
Rating: ** 1/2
[Scott Steiner interfered against Booker T.]

This was a good match between two old foes that the fans were really into. Booker T posted Jeff Jarrett outside the ring and nailed him chops before Jarrett took over. Booker turned Jarrett's leapfrog into a power bomb and signalled for the ax kick, which brought out Scott Steiner and Midajah. Steiner went postal after Booker laid him out last week and Big Poppa Pump entered the ring, attacking Booker. The referee called for the bell.

Scott Steiner and Jeff Jarrett did a number on Booker T until Sting came out to even the odds. Sting drove his baseball bat into Jarrett's gut and threw the Chosen One out of the ring, before Steiner got in Sting's face and dared Sting to hit him. Big Poppa Pump knew very well that Sting couldn't hit him due to the ruling Bischoff made preventing either man from laying a finger on the other until the pay-per-view. Midajah then jumped on Sting's back and clawed at his eyes, but Sting threw her down to the mat by her hair. Sting looked at Steiner and smirked, before locking Midajah in the Scorpion Deathlock!! Steiner was powerless to do anything thanks to Bischoff's stipulation and yelled at Sting to let her go! Steiner looked as if he was going to blow a gasket with anger as Sting kept the hold on Steiner's number one freak as the show went off air!!

Card rating: ** 3/4

Circuit information:
On the evidence of tonight's show, Scott Steiner's mind games may have inadvertently awoken a new ruthless side in Sting. Sting's attack on Midajah was most un-Sting like - Sting knew that Steiner couldn't touch him and was helpless to break the Scorpion Deathlock. The effects of the painful submission hold have ruled Midajah out of the Great American Bash on Sunday, so we may have a fair fight for the WCW World Championship.

Thankfully, referee Scott James was not seriously injured after Jeff Jarrett drilled him with the Stroke on the concrete floor. Jesse James Armstrong's brother was released from hospital later in the night. In their Dog Collar Match this Sunday, Armstrong has vowed to leave Jarrett a bloody mess and give him the beating of his life for messing with his family.

Bill Goldberg has accepted the challenge from Totally Buff and their bout is official for the Great American Bash. We can now bring you the finalised card for the Bash, live this Sunday night on pay-per-view from Omaha Civic Auditorium in Omaha, Nebraska:

WCW World Heavyweight Championship No Holds Barred Match:
Scott Steiner vs. Sting

I Quit Match:
Diamond Dallas Page vs. Chris Kanyon

Dog Collar Match:
Jesse James Armstrong vs. Jeff Jarrett

Goldberg vs. Totally Buff

Winner named number one contender to the WCW United States Championship:
Dustin Rhodes vs. Lance Storm vs. Hugh Morrus vs. Rob Van Dam

WCW Cruiserweight Championship Ladder Match:
Shane Helms vs. Jason Jett

WCW GREAT AMERICAN BASH 2001
July 15th, 2001
Omaha Civic Auditorium, Omaha, Nebraska
Your commentary team is Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Jerry "The King" Lawler.

The Great American Bash pay-per-view started with a video package hyping up the feature bouts on the card, followed by a giant firework show. Tony Schiavone welcomed viewers to the event before handing over to Mike Tenay, who introduced the capacity crowd to Greco-Roman wrestler Rulon Gardner. Gardner was seated in the front row and received a standing ovation from the fans on hand. Tenay put over Gardner as a true American hero and a man best known for one of the most dramatic victories in Olympic history - beating the unbeatable Russian, Aleksander Karelin, for the gold medal at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.

Two-out-of-three-Falls Match:
Filthy Animals (Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr.) beat
Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo 2 falls to 0:
x Rey Jr. beat Romeo via the Super Huracanrana in 0:07:25
x Kidman beat Skipper via a springboard shooting star press in 0:15:18
Rating: *** 1/2
(Filthy Animals retained the WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship.)

The Cruiserweight Tag Team Title Match got off to a wild start as both teams brawled up towards the entrance way, where Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr scored with a pair of stereo dives onto the challengers! The champions drew first blood when Mysterio Jr pinned Kid Romeo with a huracanrana off the top rope. Kid Romeo and Elix Skipper tried in vain to even the bout. Skipper thought he had scored a pin when he executed a picture perfect Ocean Cyclone Suplex on Rey, but the referee wouldn't count the fall as Rey wasn't the legal man! The legal man argument had come back to haunt the champions!! With Rey still hooked up in the suplex, Kidman sprang off the top rope and connected with a shooting star press on Skipper to secure the second fall and retain the titles!

The violence levels at the Great American Bash were about to be cranked up a notch as Jeff Jarrett and Jesse James Armstrong prepared for their Dog Collar Match. Prior to the bout, Armstrong had dedicated this match to his injured brother Scott, who Jarrett had attacked last Monday night. The rules to this unique contest are simple - both wrestlers will be chained together by the neck with a twelve foot chain and the first wrestler to score a pinfall will be declared the winner.

The official attached the collar to Jesse James Armstrong's neck but before he could do the same to Jeff Jarrett, The Chosen One attacked Armstrong with the chain. Jarrett wrapped the chain around his fist and busted Armstrong open with a series of punches, before attaching his own collar and the referee got the match officially started!

Dog Collar Match:
Jeff Jarrett pinned Jesse James Armstrong with the Stroke in 0:10:19. Jesse James Armstrong suffered a back injury. He will be out for approximately 4 months.
Rating: ***

This Dog Collar match was every bit as brutal as we expected. Jeff Jarrett and Jesse James Armstrong used the chain to choke, whip and pummel each other. Outside the ring, Armstrong pulled Jarrett repeatedly into the ringpost using the chain for leverage. Jarrett brought a chair into the ring, but before he got a chance to use it Armstrong nailed him in the gut with the chain. Armstrong went for a pumphandle slam, but Jarrett countered by using the chain to strike Armstrong low! Armstrong tried to superplex Jarrett onto the chair, but Jarrett blocked it and then took Armstrong down with the Stroke off the turnbuckles!! Armstrong landed face-first on the open steel chair and Jarrett covered for the three count.

Number-One-Contenders-Four Corners Match:
Rob Van Dam defeated Dustin Rhodes, Hugh Morrus and Lance Storm when RVD pinned
H. Morrus with the Five Star Frog Splash in 0:12:33.
Rating: ***

This four corners match was fought at a high intensity, with each competitor anxious to secure a shot at the US Title. The bout featured a series of pinning combinations being broken up towards the end. Rob Van Dam took out Dustin Rhodes at ringside with an incredible springboard somersault plancha. Back in the ring, Lance Storm avoided a moonsault from Hugh Morrus and locked on the Canadian Maple Leaf. Just as Morrus looked like he was about to submit, RVD sprang off the top rope and connected with a spinning leg lariat to the back of Storm's head! With cat-like agility, Van Dam leapt to the top turnbuckle and nailed Morrus with the frog splash to win the match.

Clutching the back of his head, Lance Storm looked on in disbelief as Rob Van Dam celebrated his victory. US Champion Shawn Stasiak then appeared at the top of the ramp dressed in a suit, shaking his head in disgust at the outcome of the bout.

Ric Flair made Kevin Nash submit to the Figure-Four Leglock in 0:06:13.
Rating: ** 1/4
[Jeff Jarrett interfered against Kevin Nash.]

Kevin Nash wasn't showing any lasting effects of his knee injury in the early going of this bout as he dominated Ric Flair with elbowsmashes, a sidewalk slam and the Snake Eyes. However, when Nash went for the Jackknife, his knee appeared to go out on him. Flair exploited the injury as much as possible, softening Nash up for the Figure Four. Flair tried to apply the hold, but Nash kicked him off and Flair went shoulder-first into the post, taking out the referee on the way! While all this was occurring, Jeff Jarrett crept down to ringside and knelt down beside the apron of the ring. Nash went for a big boot in the corner, but Jarrett pulled Flair out of dodge and Nash caught his leg on the top rope, injuring his knee further. With Nash trapped, Jarrett smashed his guitar over Big Sexy's knee!! Nash yelled in agony and crumpled to the mat, allowing Flair to lock on the figure four! Jarrett revived the official, who then saw Nash submitting and stopped the bout!

The crowd jeered as Jeff Jarrett held onto Ric Flair's arms and helped apply further pressure in the figure four! Jarrett and Flair were intent on damaging Nash's knee beyond all repair, when suddenly the nWo Wolfpac music hit and Scott Hall made his return to WCW!! Flair and Jarrett fled before Hall could get any shots in, but Hall threw his toothpick at Jarrett as they backed up the aisle. Hall helped Nash back to his feet and the two men embraced! The Outsiders reunion prompted a rapturous response from the capacity crowd!

Ladder Match:
Shane Helms defeated Jason Jett in 0:13:55.
Rating: *** 1/4
(Shane Helms retained the WCW Cruiserweight Championship.)

The first big spot of this ladder match was Jason Jett countering a tope from Shane Helms by smashing the ladder into Helms' face! Jett used a backdrop to send Helms into the crowd and then following up with the Afterburner over the guardrail. Jett punished Helms with the ladder. He crushed Helms in the corner with it and used a beautiful handspring elbow that he calls the Shockwave. Jett placed the ladder on top of the champion and hit a standing moonsault. Helms knocked the ladder into Jett's face with a springboard dropkick. Helms went for the Vertebreaker on the ladder, but Jett blocked it and superkicked him. In order to steady the ladder, Jett set up another ladder between the first ladder and the ropes as a platform. Jett began climbing, but Helms cut him off and both men traded punches on top of the ladder. Jett went for the Crash Landing off the ladder, but Helms countered and hit the Nightmare on Helms Street, sending both men crashing through the ladder that was being used as the platform!! Helms then took the opportunity to drag himself up the rungs and unhook the Cruiserweight Title belt to retain the championship!

Following the hard fought battle that had left both competitors battered and bruised, Jason Jett confronted Shane Helms. Jett was devastated that he hadn't captured the title, but out of respect he extended his hand. Helms shook it as the crowd applauded this mutual show of respect while the announcers put over the good sportsmanship.

Totally Buff waited patiently for Bill Goldberg as Da Man made his trademark entrance. However, as Goldberg reached the ringside area, there was a young fan giving him abuse in the front row! Tony Schiavone identified him as the geeky fan who maced Goldberg last January at Sin! The fan tried to mace Goldberg again, but Goldberg dodged the tear gas this time and grabbed a hold of the fan's shirt! Goldberg bealed him over the rail and launched him into the steps!! Totally Buff took this opportunity to make their attack and the handicap match was on!

Handicap-Match:
Bill Goldberg defeated Totally Buff (Buff Bagwell and Lex Luger) when Goldberg
pinned Luger with the Jackhammer in 0:04:04.
Rating: 3/4*

Totally Buff doubled up on Goldberg and dropped him throat-first across the rail. They attempted to whip Goldberg into the guardrail, but Da Man blocked it and sent both Buff Bagwell and Lex Luger crashing into the steel! Goldberg dropped Bagwell with a standing side kick and then sent him flying into the crowd with an overhead pumphandle suplex! Goldberg threw Luger into the ring and powerslammed him hard. One spear and a jackhammer later and Goldberg was victorious!

After the match, Bill Goldberg went over to Rulon Gardner and the two men touched fists. Buff Bagwell then gingerly hoisted himself over the railing, so Goldberg speared him in the aisle for good measure! The WCW fans cannot get enough of Bill Goldberg!!

As Chris Kanyon and Kimberly made their entrance for the upcoming I Quit Match against Diamond Dallas Page, Kanyon stopped at ringside and got into an argument with Rulon Gardner. The exchange between the two men grew more heated, allowing DDP to sneak through the crowd and leap onto Kanyon with a flying clothesline! Gardner patted Page on the back and told DDP to "go get him" as the I Quit Match got underway!

I-Quit Match:
Diamond Dallas Page made Chris Kanyon submit in 0:18:38.
Rating: *** 1/2
[Kimberly interfered against Diamond Dallas Page.]

Diamond Dallas Page and Chris Kanyon had a hot match which the crowd were into from bell to bell. Page juiced almost immediately when Kanyon used a Rocker Dropper off the apron onto the steel steps. Kanyon hit Page with two wicked chair shots. Page rang the ring bell right in Kanyon's ear and DDTed him on the announcers table, but the table didn't break! Kanyon was bleeding heavily. DDP found a wrench underneath the ring and dug it into Kanyon's cut. Page used the Trip to the Diamond Mine onto a steel chair. Page went for an elbowdrop through a table like he had done at Slamboree, but this time Kimberly pulled Kanyon off the table and Page went through it, injuring his arm. Kanyon exploited the weakness, going on a frenzied attack on the arm. Kanyon slammed Page's arm into the ringpost repeatedly and locked on several armbar variations, but Page wouldn't give up. Kanyon put Page's arm inside a chair and rammed it into the post. Kanyon suplexed DDP onto two chairs, before placing Page's arm back inside a chair and stomping it. Before Kanyon stomped down on the chair each time, he demanded that the official ask Page if he was going to quit, but on every occasion Page refused. Kanyon went for the Flatliner onto an open chair, but Page blocked it by holding on to the top rope. Page smashed Kanyon in the head with the chair and the chair ended up wrapped around Kanyon's neck! Page drove the chair into the top turnbuckle and Kanyon began spitting up blood! Page delivered the Diamond Cutter with the chair still around Kanyon's neck and then wrenched back on the chair as Kanyon lay on the mat!! Blood was pouring profusely out of Kanyon's mouth as he spluttered something into the microphone. The official took this as an "I Quit" and stopped the match!

As WCW World Heavyweight Champion Scott Steiner made his way out for the no holds barred match with Sting, he stopped at ringside and got into a confrontation with Rulon Gardner. Steiner began jawing with the Olympic Gold Medallist, before flipping Gardner off! Gardner lunged at Steiner and the two men engaged in a pull-apart which security struggled to keep under control!

No-Countout-No-DQ-Match:
Scott Steiner defeated Sting when Sting passed out in the Steiner Recliner in 0:17:14.
Rating: ****
(Scott Steiner retained the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.)
[Malice interfered against Sting.]

These two men had waited the best part of a month to get their hands on each other and wasted no time in tearing into one another! Sting backdropped Scott Steiner out of the ring and then hit him with a chair. Sting brought the chair into the ring and bulldogged Steiner onto it. Big Poppa Pump caught Sting as the challenger went for a Stinger Splash and planted him with an overhead belly-to-belly suplex. Steiner used a backbreaker and a belly-to-belly suplex on the chair for a near fall. Steiner tied up Sting in the Tree of Woe and choked him with the chair. Following a Steinerline and a Gorilla press slam, the Big Bad Booty Daddy set up a table in the corner and went for a T-Bone suplex, but Sting countered and hit the Scorpion Death Drop out of nowhere! The referee counted to two before Steiner draped a foot over the bottom rope, saving his title! Out of desperation, Steiner went for his trusty lead pipe, but Sting double legged him and hooked in the Scorpion Deathlock! Steiner was trapped in the centre of the ring with nowhere to go! Steiner had his arm in the air, ready to tap, when suddenly Malice and Don Callis hit the scene! Malice entered the ring and kicked Sting in the back of the head, breaking the hold! With the no holds barred stipulation, the referee was powerless to do anything as Malice pulled the table out of the corner and set it up. Malice then drove Sting through the table with a vicious choke slam! Ever the opportunist, Steiner quickly locked on the Steiner Recliner as Sting lay amongst the remnants of the table! Sting was out cold and unable to answer the official, so the match was stopped and Steiner retains the strap.

Card rating: ** 3/4

Circuit information:
Scott Steiner retained the WCW World Championship against Sting in a brutal and barbaric main event of the Great American Bash. It was the interference of Don Callis and Malice that cost Sting the bout. Sting and Malice had a confrontation two weeks ago on Nitro where Sting prevented Malice from beating up on a bloody Shannon Moore. On last week's Nitro, Callis said that Malice loved to destroy dreams. Tonight, Malice certainly destroyed Sting's dreams of lifting the WCW Championship for a seventh time.

This was without a doubt one of the most violent shows WCW has ever promoted. Diamond Dallas Page finally drew a line under his feud with Chris Kanyon with victory in an hellacious I Quit Match, while Jeff Jarrett defeated Jesse James Armstrong in a bloody Dog Collar Match. Page went straight to the hospital after the show to have his injured arm checked out and Armstrong is expected to be out of action for several months with a back injury picked up in his war with Jarrett. These two brutal bouts certainly took their toll on the participants involved.

Scott Hall made his first WCW appearance since Superbrawl 2000 tonight, returning to the company to save his best friend Kevin Nash from a beatdown at the hands of Ric Flair and Jeff Jarrett. It is great to see Hall back in WCW looking healthier than ever. He's said to be happy, sober and in fine form. Hall always has been somewhat of an enigma all to himself - as talented as anybody his size, yet has never won a world title. Perhaps he can change that this time around.

Bill Goldberg sent Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell packing with an emphatic victory in tonight's handicap match. Only three now remain of the Magnificent Seven group and Goldberg has warned that their days are numbered!

No title changes on tonight's show. Rey Mysterio Jr and Billy Kidman proved that they are top dogs in the Cruiserweight Tag Team Division with a dominant display against Kid Romeo and Elix Skipper, while Shane Helms triumphed over Jason Jett to retain his Cruiserweight Title in a terrific ladder match.

Speaking of the cruiserweight division, the all-cruiserweight WCW Thunder show debuts this Wednesday night on MTV! As a result of this change in the WCW television schedule, the commentary teams have been shunted around. Tony Schiavone and Jerry Lawler will present Nitro starting tomorrow night, while Mike Tenay and Scott Hudson will handle the announcing duties on Thunder.

Already announced for Nitro tomorrow night is a WCW Tag Team Title Match where KroniK will challenge the current champions Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo, plus Eric Bischoff has a huge announcement to make. Make sure you tune in for that and all the fallout from tonight's Great American Bash! See you tomorrow night!

WCW Monday Nitro
July 16th, 2001
Pershing Auditorium, Lincoln, NE
Your commentary team is Tony Schiavone and Jerry "The King" Lawler.

The show opened with a replay of a small portion of the previous evening's Great American Bash pay-per-view show, where Tony Schiavone introduced Rulon Gardner to the WCW faithful. His introduction and waving to the crowd was shown, along with his interaction with Bill Goldberg and his confrontation with Scott Steiner later on the show. After the video, Eric Bischoff appeared on camera. Bischoff held up a group of papers held together by staples and told the cameraman to zoom in on them. He pointed out Rulon Gardner's signature at the bottom and revealed that the Olympic gold medallist had signed a two-year contract to compete here in WCW! Bischoff excitedly announced that the best amateur wrestler in the entire world is turning pro, and he's doing it right here where the big boys play!!

The opening video package and pyro display was interrupted by the cameras cutting to the back, where Sting was tearing the place apart looking for Malice. Malice had cost Sting his match with Scott Steiner last night at the Great American Bash. Sting entered the arena to a loud reception and headed straight for the ring, where he called out Malice. Instead, Don Callis emerged from the back and was dismissive of Sting, saying that he'll only face Malice on their terms. The crowd jeered as Callis turned and left, while Sting took off after him.

Four Corners Match:
Kaz Hayashi defeated Disco Inferno, Evan Karagias and Lash LeRoux when Kaz
pinned Karagias after a German suplex in 0:12:41.
Rating: *** 1/2
[Leia Meow interfered against Evan Karagias.]

Tony Schiavone announced that at the next pay-per-view, the Bash at the Beach on August 12th, will see the return of Battlebowl: The Lethal Lottery. This one night tournament will comprise sixteen teams drawn completely at random. The eight winning combos will advance to a battle royal in the main event of the show, the winner of which will receive a shot at the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Schiavone added that the pairings will be drawn on Nitro over the next three weeks.

The Outsiders, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, made their way out to the ring to a thunderous ovation from the crowd. Hall was greeted with a "Welcome back!" chant. Hall took the mike and said that The Outsiders being back together was just too sweeeeeeet, before addressing Ric Flair and Jeff Jarrett. Hall said he couldn't stand idly by and watch them try and end his best friend Kevin Nash's career. Hall said that the sides were now even and challenged Flair and Jarrett to a tag team match tonight on Nitro! Flair and Jarrett emerged from the back to respond. Jarrett called the fans "Cornhusker slapnuts". Jarrett branded Hall a pathetic drunk and said he was no better than Jesse James Armstrong. Jarrett added that Hall must be under the influence right now if he's throwing out challenges like this. Hall interrupted, saying it had been a long time since he last did this, but it was survey time! Hall asked the crowd who came here tonight to see Flair and Jarrett. The question was met with boos. Hall then asked who came to see The Outsiders, which of course garnered loud cheers. Angered, Flair accepted The Outsiders' challenge and vowed that he and Jarrett would cripple Nash tonight.

Shawn Stasiak pinned Johnny the Bull with the Brush with Greatness in 0:07:02.
Rating: ** 3/4
[Stacy Keibler interfered against Johnny the Bull.]

After WCW United States Champion Shawn Stasiak had disposed of Johnny the Bull with his new finishing move, a sitout inverted DDT called the Brush with Greatness, Stasiak took the stick and addressed Rob Van Dam's victory in a four corners number one contendership match last night at the Great American Bash. Stasiak refused to acknowledge Van Dam's status as the top contender to the US Title, stating that there are hundreds more deserving challengers out there. Stasiak announced he would be defending his title against these more deserving challengers starting next week on Nitro!

Chuck Palumbo and Sean O'Haire defeated KroniK (Brian Adams and Bryan Clark)
when S. O'Haire pinned B. Adams with the Seanton Bomb in 0:08:36.
Rating: * 1/4
(Chuck Palumbo and Sean O'Haire retained the WCW World Tag Team Championship.)

Chuck Palumbo and Sean O'Haire turned back a strong challenge here tonight from KroniK, in which O'Haire was the stand-out performer and cemented his status as a main eventer of the future. O'Haire flipped out of a High Times attempt and decked Adams and Clark with a double clothesline. While Palumbo took care of Clark, O'Haire struck Adams with the Seanton Bomb to retain the gold. The announcers strongly put over O'Haire's performance.

Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo's celebrations were interrupted by a beaming Dawn Marie. The sultry Dawn appeared enamoured with the Tag Team Champions and began coming on to them. On commentary, Jerry Lawler made several disparaging comments about Dawn's morals. It was all a set-up though as Maximum Force came through the crowd and ambushed the champions! Simon Diamond and Johnny Swinger did a number on the champions until O'Haire and Palumbo managed to fight back! All four men were going at it until the debuting C.W. Anderson hit the ring and attacked the champs! Anderson drilled O'Haire with a stiff chair shot, before planting Palumbo with a vicious spinebuster! Anderson locked Palumbo in a painful scissored armbar, making him watch as Maximum Force drilled his partner O'Haire with the Problem Solver onto the open chair!! Simon, Swinger, C.W. and Dawn Marie struck their pose as the fans booed them out of the building.

Bill Goldberg pinned Mark Jindrak with the Jackhammer in 0:02:04.
Rating: ** 1/4

After quickly squashing Mark Jindrak, Bill Goldberg took the mike and vowed to win the Battlebowl at the Bash at the Beach and then go on to capture the WCW Title! The fans voiced their approval.

A video package plugging the return of Thunder this Wednesday night was shown. This is the only place to catch the best high-flying cruiserweight action in the world!

Lance Storm made Konnan submit to the Canadian Maple Leaf in 0:06:25.
Rating: ** 1/2

Lance Storm tapped out Konnan with his rolling half crab and then called for the microphone. Storm claimed that at last night's Great American Bash pay-per-view, he had Hugh Morrus beat with the Canadian Maple Leaf, but like the cowardly American that he is, Rob Van Dam attacked him from behind and stole his victory! Storm said that if RVD is any kind of a man, then he'll put his number one contendership on the line against Storm.

Diamond Dallas Page entered the arena to a great response. Page was selling the effects of his brutal I Quit Match with Chris Kanyon last night and had a cast on his right arm. Page revealed that he had fractured a bone in his arm during last night's war. DDP stated that even with a broken arm, he didn't quit. Page said he was going to rest up for a few weeks and then return better and stronger than ever for the Battlebowl! Page said he was going to win it all and become the next WCW Champion!

The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) defeated
The Magnificent Seven (Jeff Jarrett and Ric Flair) when Hall defeated R. Flair
by countout in 0:06:11.
Rating: * 1/2

It had been a long time since Kevin Nash and Scott Hall last teamed up but they looked like they had never been apart tonight on Nitro. Ric Flair and Jeff Jarrett were never able to get a foothold in this bout as the Outsiders dominated. Hall had Flair set up for the Outsiders Edge, but Jarrett pulled Flair out of the ring to safety. Flair and Jarrett then simply walked out for the countout as the fans voiced their disapproval.

Circuit information:
An unsatisfactory finish to tonight's show as Ric Flair and Jeff Jarrett cowardly bailed out of their match with the Outsiders. Kevin Nash and Scott Hall are out for revenge after Flair and Jarrett's vicious attack on Nash at the Great American Bash and are determined to get them back in the ring at the earliest possible opportunity.

Sting is desperate to get his hands on Malice after Malice cost him the WCW Championship at the Bash. Don Callis stated tonight that they'll meet on his and Malice's terms, an explanation that was not good enough for the Stinger. Malice is scheduled to be in action next week on Nitro. You can bet that where Malice is, Sting will be not too far behind!

The unique Battlebowl Lethal Lottery tag team tournament returns at the Bash at the Beach on August 12th. The reward for the winner will be a WCW World Heavyweight Title shot and each and every WCW superstar is eager to be a part of it - Bill Goldberg and Diamond Dallas Page have already thrown their names into the hat. The Lethal Lottery draw will begin on next week's edition of Nitro.

Rob Van Dam has agreed to put his number one contendership to the US Title on the line next week against Lance Storm in what could potentially be one of the best matches you will see for free this year. US Champion Shawn Stasiak will defend his title on next week's show. We have no idea who Stasiak's opponent will be, but the Mecca of Manhood has stated that it will be somebody more deserving of a title shot than Rob Van Dam.

Sean O'Haire suffered his second concussion of the year as a result of the attack by Maximum Force. O'Haire was knocked silly when he was driven head-first into a steel chair by Simon Diamond and Johnny Swinger. Simon and Swinger were aided in their assault on the Tag Team Champions by C.W. Anderson. The former ECW superstar appears to have aligned himself with Maximum Force and Dawn Marie.

Olympic Gold Medallist Rulon Gardner has signed a contract with WCW in what is a major coup for the company. Gardner will report to the Power Plant in the next few days to begin his training as a professional wrestler. We await his debut with baited breath.

WCW Thunder, now an all-cruiserweight show, returns on Wednesday night on MTV with a packed show. Blitzkrieg will make his WCW return and we'll determine the number one contender to the Cruiserweight Title with a Suicidal Six Way! Plus, in the main event of the show, we'll bring you a Toryumon showcase six man tag team match!! If you have never seen Toryumon action before, then you will be blown away by what you see this Wednesday night! Don't dare miss it!!

WCW Thunder
July 18th, 2001
MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, NV
Your commentators are Mike Tenay and Scott Hudson.

The show opened with excited announcers Mike Tenay and Scott Hudson promising an action-packed show featuring revolutionary, spectacular moves. Tenay said the decision to award the cruiserweights their own show was indicative of WCW giving young talent the chance to shine.

The opening contest was a Suicidal Six Way - a six-way elimination match - with the winner earning a WCW Cruiserweight Title shot. The first five participants - Chavo Guerrero Jr, Crowbar, Jamie Knoble, Jerry Lynn and Mikey Henderson - all made their way out, but the sixth participant was a shock to everybody! The fans and announcers looked on disbelief as Taka Michinoku made his way down to the ring to complete the line up!! Scott Hudson exclaimed, "He doesn't work here!!" as Taka prepared to lock up!

[Suicidal Six Way]:
6-Man Battle Royal:
Taka Michinoku won a 6-man Battle Royal:
x M. Henderson defeated Knoble after the Miracle Maker in 0:03:22
x Lynn defeated Chavo Jr. after a power bomb in 0:05:57
x Lynn defeated Crowbar after a crucifix in 0:07:53
x Michinoku defeated Henderson after the Just Facelock in 0:12:30
x Michinoku defeated Lynn after the Michinoku Driver in 0:16:29
Rating: **** 1/2
[Daffney interfered against Jamie Knoble.]
[Daffney interfered against Taka Michinoku.]

In his WCW debut, Taka Michinoku prevailed in this gripping Suicidal Six Way that was well received by the crowd on hand. Taka made Mikey Henderson submit to his painful Just Facelock submission hold, before putting away Jerry Lynn with the Michinoku Driver to earn a shot at the Cruiserweight Title.

After the match, WCW Cruiserweight Champion Shane Helms came down to the ring to welcome Taka Michinoku to the company and congratulate him on his victory. However, when Helms extended his hand for a handshake, Taka flipped him off and left the ring!

Blitzkrieg pinned Yun Yang with the Stardust Press in 0:08:19.
Rating: ****
[Leia Meow interfered against Blitzkrieg.]

Blitzkrieg wowed WCW fans in 1999 with his arsenal of high-flying manoeuvres in his duels with such superstars as Rey Mysterio Jr, Psicosis and Juventud Guererra. He picked up right where he left off here tonight against Yang, stunning the Jung Dragon with a somersault plancha, a springboard corkscrew moonsault to the outside and a picture-perfect springboard dropkick. The finish came when Yang missed the Yang Time and Blitzkrieg scored with his version of the corkscrew 450 splash for the three count. Both men received a well-deserved standing ovation afterwards.

Mike Tenay enthusiastically put over the Toryumon promotion ahead of the six man tag team main event. Tenay said that the athletes of Toryumon are always looking to push the limits of what is possible inside the squared circle and that the stars we were about to see lead the industry with their revolutionary approach.

Dragon Kid, Ricky Marvin and Ryo Saito defeated
M2K (Susumu Mochizuki, Yasushi Kanda and Darkness Dragon) when Dragon Kid pinned
Y. Kanda with the Dragon Rana in 0:18:18.
Rating: *** 3/4

These six Toryumon stars did not disappoint with a fast-paced bout wrestled in a style rarely seen outside of Japan. This was total non-stop action from bell to bell, with the announcers struggling to keep up with the action! The faces took out the heels at ringside with a jaw-dropping sequence of dives; Ryo Saito hit a tope, Ricky Marvin scored with a corkscrew suicide dive and Dragon Kid uncorked a beautiful moonsault from the second rope inside the ring to Yasushi Kanda on the arena floor! The fans chanted "Please don't stop!" as the bout reached a frenetic conclusion. Susumi Mochizuki planted Dragon Kid with a sunset flip power bomb from the top rope, before Ricky Marvin drilled Mochizuki with a frog splash! Darkness Dragon then hit Marvin with his Darkness Buster scoop brain buster, followed by Saito dropping Darkness with the Premium Bridge, a bridging wristlock dragon suplex! Kanda broke up the pin with a diving elbow, but then Dragon Kid surprised Kanda with the amazing Dragon Rana to win the match for his team!!

Mike Tenay and Scott Hudson, out of breath from calling the main event, put over the efforts of all six men as the combatants received a rapturous response from the crowd on hand! Tenay promised that you could expect this innovative style of professional wrestling each and every week on Thunder as the show went off air!

Circuit information:
The return of WCW Thunder featured high-end grappling action from start to finish. The main event was simply breathtaking and the Toryumon athletes are well aware that they stole the show tonight. In what could be taken to be a sign of arrogance, the winning team of Dragon Kid, Ricky Marvin and Ryo Saito claimed after the show that the best cruiserweights in the world are found in Toryumon. Rivalry between the two groups appears to be developing as the victorious team said they would be willing to face any of the WCW guys.

The fans really seemed to take to Dragon Kid tonight. His small stature reminds WCW fans of Rey Mysterio Jr. and his lightning fast execution and unique arsenal make him a very exciting competitor.

Taka Michinoku made his shock WCW debut tonight and he was victorious in the opening Suicidal Six Way, earning a Cruiserweight Title shot in the process. Michinoku was massively underutilised by his previous employers, but in WCW we recognise his ability and appreciate exactly how talented he is.

Blitzkrieg showed no signs of ring rust this evening as he defeated Yun Yang in a tremendous bout. Blitzkrieg's previous run in the company was much too short and we look forward to seeing him in action many more times on Thunder.

We can reveal that on next week's edition of Thunder, the Elimination Chase will begin in order to determine the next challengers to the Cruiserweight Tag Team Titles. The Elimination Chase is a series of multi-team, one fall matches, with the loser of the fall being eliminated from future bouts until one team remains. The winning team will be named the number one contender to the Cruiserweight Tag Team Titles, currently in the possession of Rey Mysterio Jr. and Billy Kidman.
JustinPossiblePosted on 09/11/09 at 16:27:04

Great comeback of Thunder with a good concept of all cruisers....

Too bad my least favorite announce team is at the helm :(

The Elimination Chase sounds interesting.. can't wait to check out the teams involved.

WCW Monday Nitro
July 23rd, 2001
MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, NV
Your commentators are Tony Schiavone and Jerry "The King" Lawler.

This week's edition of Monday Nitro kicked off with a bout between Lance Storm and Rob Van Dam. Last week, Storm challenged RVD to put his number one contendership to the US Title on the line against him tonight and the Whole F'N Show accepted.

Number-One-Contenders-Match:
Rob Van Dam pinned Lance Storm with the Five Star Frog Splash in 0:13:51.
Rating: **** 1/4

This was a stunning match-up, jam-packed with near falls. Lance Storm also had Rob Van Dam trapped in the Canadian Maple Leaf on three separate occasions, but RVD managed to either escape or make the ropes each time. Van Dam used a springboard side kick and the Rolling Thunder, before scoring the pin in just under fourteen minutes with the Five Star Frog Splash. RVD retains his number one contendership.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund and the returning Pamela Paulshock were positioned at the top of the entrance ramp beside a large bingo ball dispenser, ready to draw the first two tag combinations in the Lethal Lottery tournament at the Bash at the Beach. Paulshock drew out the teams, resulting in a tag team match pitting Lance Storm and Scott Hall against Booker T and Chavo Guerrero Jr.

Dustin Rhodes pinned Reno with the Lone Star State of Mind in 0:04:55.
Rating: * 1/4

Dustin Rhodes was victorious in this solid, slow-paced encounter, defeating Reno with an inverted DDT.

After the match, Gene Okerlund interviewed Dustin Rhodes at ringside. Rhodes said that with Tylene by his side, he feels he can take on any challenge. Rhodes remarked that behind every great man is a great woman and claimed that he had the greatest woman in the world behind him! The announcers commented that Rhodes appeared besotted with Tylene.

Back from the commercial break and Maximum Force, along with the gorgeous Dawn Marie, were in the ring. Simon Diamond introduced the fans to their "Problem Solver", C.W. Anderson. Simon said he had a problem...with Jerry "The King" Lawler! Maximum Force left the squared circle to confront Lawler at the commentary table. Simon said that he heard how Lawler trashed Dawn Marie last week and took exception to it, as Dawn is one classy lady! Right on cue, a loud "slut!" chant erupted throughout the arena! Simon said that he had seen Lawler's wife and remarked how he found it funny that The King disrespects Dawn while he hangs around with "that dog"!! That jibe brought The King to his feet as the fans chanted, "Jerry!". Simon goaded Lawler into defending the honour of his wife. Lawler gave Simon one opportunity to take back what he just said, while Simon responded that the ring is right there if Lawler wanted to take THAT opportunity! Tony Schiavone attempted to talk his broadcast colleague out of it as the crowd went crazy! Lawler removed his jacket as Maximum Force attacked him and threw him into the ring. Then, Chuck Palumbo hit the squared circle to even the odds and we had an impromptu tag team contest on our hands!

Jerry Lawler and Chuck Palumbo defeated
Maximum Force (Simon Diamond and Johnny Swinger) when Lawler pinned Swinger
after a small package in 0:05:09.
Rating: **

Chuck Palumbo came to Jerry Lawler's aid in order to avenge the attack that Maximum Force perpetrated on his tag team partner Sean O'Haire last week, resulting in O'Haire being ruled out for several weeks with his second concussion of the year. In the end, Palumbo nailed Johnny Swinger with the Jungle Kick, sending Swinger into a small package from Lawler for the three count.

After the match, C.W. Anderson hit the ring and jumped Chuck Palumbo. Simon Diamond and Johnny Swinger joined C.W. in conducting a three-on-one assault on Palumbo. Jerry Lawler then returned to the squared circle wielding a steel chair and ran the trio off!

Scott Steiner made Ernest Miller submit to the Steiner Recliner in 0:03:23.
Rating: * 1/4

WCW World Heavyweight Champion Scott Steiner made short work of The Cat here tonight, destroying him with a backbreaker, an overhead belly-to-belly suplex and then finishing him off with the Steiner Recliner.

Gene Okerlund and Pamela Paulshock conducted another random drawing, resulting in the team of Bam Bam Bigelow and Cash facing Billy Kidman and Mark Jindrak in the Lethal Lottery tournament at the Bash at the Beach. Scott Steiner then made his way up the ramp and interrupted proceedings, saying that it doesn't matter who wins BattleBowl - even if it's Diamond Dallas Page or Bill Goldberg - nobody is taking his title!

WCW United States Champion Shawn Stasiak made his way out, along with Stacy Keibler. Stasiak claimed that after a long period of deliberation, he had finally selected a deserving challenger for him to defend his US Title against tonight. Stasiak put over his opponent as a superstar in Mexico, the United States and Europe, as well as a hardcore legend in this business. Stasiak said that his opponent tonight is one of the toughest men ever to step inside the squared circle, before introducing..."Screamin'" Norman Smiley! The crowd groaned as Stasiak began to warm up for his title defence.

Shawn Stasiak pinned Norman Smiley with the Brush with Greatness in 0:02:07.
Rating: ** 1/4
(Shawn Stasiak retained the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship.)

Norman Smiley actually dominated this bout at the beginning but when he did the Big Wiggle, Stasiak looked disgusted and then decked Smiley with a hard lariat. Stasiak then executed his sitout inverted DDT for the win in just over two minutes.

Stacy Keibler towelled Shawn Stasiak down after the bout as Stasiak pretended to be worn out. Stasiak took the mike and explained how relieved he was to retain his title after such a tough battle. Stasiak promised that he would defend the title against another worthy challenger next week on Nitro.

Scott Hall pinned Mike Sanders with the Outsider's Edge in 0:01:36.
Rating: *

Scott Hall rolled over Mike Sanders very quickly, pinning him with the Outsider's Edge. After the match, Kevin Nash entered the ring and threw Sanders over the top rope. Nash took the mike and addressed the events of last week, where the Outsiders defeated Ric Flair and Jeff Jarrett by count out when the Magnificent Seven members decided to take a walk. Nash said that they weren't letting Flair and Jarrett get off that easy and challenged them to a steel cage match on next week's edition of Nitro! Nash added that this time, Flair and Jarrett won't be able to run like cowards when the going gets tough.

Backstage, Gene Okerlund interviewed Maximum Force, C.W. Anderson and Dawn Marie, who were furious with what went down earlier. Simon Diamond said that they were embarrassed about losing to Jerry Lawler. Simon branded Chuck Palumbo a cheat and claimed that the sooner the Tag Team Titles were off him and Sean O'Haire, the better. Simon challenged Palumbo to face C.W. Anderson on next week's show and if the Problem Solver won, Maximum Force would get a title shot. However, if Palumbo wins, then Maximum Force will never challenge for the Tag Team Titles so long as O'Haire and Palumbo are champions.

As Malice made his entrance for his bout with Big Vito, Tony Schiavone revealed that Don Callis had gone to Eric Bischoff and gotten Sting barred from the building for Malice's match. Callis convinced Bischoff that it was for Sting's own good.

Malice pinned Big Vito with the Malicious Intent in 0:03:07.
Rating: ** 1/4

Malice used his reverse choke slam to defeat Big Vito after taking the majority of this scrap. Immediately following the bell, Sting appeared on the video wall. Sting was in the parking lot at the arena and said that if he couldn't come inside, then Malice should come out into the parking lot and face him! The crowd roared as Malice made his way up the ramp! Don Callis tried to prevent his man from leaving, but Malice shoved him down and headed for the parking lot!

It was then time for another Lethal Lottery drawing and it resulted in the most interesting match-up so far - Kevin Nash and Sting vs. Ric Flair and Malice!! This bout will see two of the hottest rivalries in WCW combine in one match-up! Don Callis couldn't believe the teams that had just been drawn and sprinted to the back!

FCA Cubed Match:
Malice and Sting battled to a no-contest in a Parking Lot Brawl in 0:04:16.
Rating: **

Sting attacked Malice as he left the arena, smashing him repeatedly with a trash can and whipping him into the side of a dumpster! Malice came back by slamming Sting into a car windshield, shattering it on impact! Malice tried to power bomb Sting on a car hood, but Sting backdropped Malice onto the hood! As Malice yelled out in agony, Don Callis arrived on the scene. Sting punched Callis out and then picked up a car bumper to use on Malice! Suddenly, a black limousine pulled up beside the car Malice was sprawled out on! Ric Flair and Jeff Jarrett got out and pulled Malice into the limo, before Callis scurried in behind them! The limo then took off, leaving an irate Sting to take his frustrations out on a car with the bumper!

Circuit information:
Ric Flair and Jeff Jarrett came to the aid of Malice tonight during Malice's fight in the parking lot with Sting. Sting was ready to beat the hell out of Malice with a car bumper when Flair and Jarrett pulled him to safety. Flair is obviously keen to protect his Lethal Lottery tag team partner ahead of the Bash at the Beach, which is why he and Jarrett made the save. Flair and Malice will square off with Kevin Nash and Sting at the pay-per-view, so Flair will want Malice at 100% when they take on these two superstars. Nash and Sting actually held the World Tag Team Titles together and have experience as a team, making the task that more difficult for the Nature Boy.

However, Ric Flair himself may not be at 100% after next week's show, when he and Jeff Jarrett will battle the Outsiders in a steel cage match. Flair and Jarrett surprisingly wasted no time in accepting the challenge from Nash and Hall, which suggests to me that they may have something up their sleeve for next week.

Speaking of challenges, Chuck Palumbo has agreed to face C.W. Anderson on Nitro next week. The stakes for this one are high - if C.W. is victorious in his WCW debut, Maximum Force will get a WCW Tag Team Title shot, but if Palumbo wins, Maximum Force will not get a title shot as long as Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo hold the titles.

Shawn Stasiak is treating the United States Title as a joke. He claimed that he would find a worthy challenger for tonight, but then brought out Norman Smiley for a quick squash. Who knows who Stasiak will wheel out next week? It is obvious that Stasiak is dodging Rob Van Dam, but as long as Stasiak is defending his title each week, there is not much that WCW officials can do.

Let's recap the first three Lethal Lottery tag team matches that were drawn tonight for the Bash at the Beach on Sunday, August 12th:

Lance Storm and Scott Hall vs. Booker T and Chavo Guerrero Jr.

Bam Bam Bigelow and Cash vs. Billy Kidman and Mark Jindrak

Kevin Nash and Sting vs. Ric Flair and Malice

There will be five more matches drawn over the next two weeks. Remember, the eight winning teams will go on to the sixteen man Battlebowl battle royal later in the night, with the winner earning a WCW World Heavyweight Title shot.

After a breathtaking debut last week on MTV, Thunder returns this Wednesday evening with a huge six man tag team main event. Following their triumphant debut on last week's show, the Toryumon trio of Dragon Kid, Ricky Marvin and Ryo Saito challenged the best cruiserweights that WCW has to offer. The gauntlet has been taken up by WCW Cruiserweight Champion Shane Helms and Cruiserweight Tag Team Champions Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr! This could be the match of the year in World Championship Wrestling; tune in on Wednesday night to see if it delivers!

WCW Thunder
July 25th, 2001
MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, NV
Your commentators are Mike Tenay and Scott Hudson.

Thunder began with a highlights package featuring the events of last week's high octane show.

Mike Tenay promised more of the same scintillating action tonight, before explaining the rules to the Elimination Chase tournament which will open the show. Tenay said that the team that loses the fall will be eliminated from the Chase, with the three other teams going on to a Triple Threat match next week. On next week's show, again the team that loses the fall will be eliminated and the following week a straight-up tag team bout between the two remaining teams will take place. The winning team of that bout will then receive a shot at the WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Titles.

[Elimination Chase]:
Four Corners Match:
Jung Dragons (Kaz Hayashi and Yun Yang) defeated
Air Raid (Air Paris and AJ Styles),
The Boogie Knights (Alex Wright and Disco Inferno) and Cash and Jamie Knoble
when Kaz pinned A. Wright after the Swinging DDT in 0:16:52.

These eight men rocked the arena in a fantastic four corners scrap. Ultimately it was the Boogie Knights that drop out of the Elimination Chase when Kaz Hayashi drilled Alex Wright with a wicked swinging DDT.

Mike Tenay reiterated that as a result of this outcome, the Jung Dragons, Air Raid and Jamie Knoble and Cash will clash next week in a Triple Threat Match.

Blitzkrieg pinned Evan Karagias with the Stardust Press in 0:07:09.
Rating: ** 1/2

Blitzkrieg kept his wave of momentum from last week going when he pinned Evan Karagias with the Stardust Press. Blitzkrieg continues to impress with his high-flying, high-risk style.

Backstage, Jeremy Borash interviewed the trio of Shane Helms, Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr. Helms put over the Toryumon six man tag team match on last week's show, saying that anybody who watched it couldn't help be impressed. Kidman added that while Dragon Kid, Ricky Marvin and Ryo Saito had gotten all the plaudits, people seemed to have forgotten just how talented the WCW cruiserweights are. Mysterio vowed to show the Toryumon contingent exactly why he, Kidman and Helms are the best cruiserweights in the world!

Dragon Kid, Ricky Marvin and Ryo Saito defeated
Filthy Animals (Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr.) and Shane Helms when
Dragon Kid pinned Rey Jr. with the Dragon Rana in 0:18:09.
Rating: **** 1/4

In what must be considered an upset, Toryumon defeated WCW in this six man tag team match. All six men put in a sterling effort in an incredible contest featuring all manner of inventive stunts. The bout broke down towards the end, leaving Rey Mysterio Jr and Dragon Kid together in somewhat of a dream showdown! The two men traded a succession of high-flying manoeuvres. Dragon Kid used his stunning Déjà Vu double rotation headscissors and then locked on a Cristo, but Mysterio escaped. Mysterio executed a top-rope huracanrana and went for a springboard rana, but Dragon Kid side stepped the move. Dragon Kid then silenced the crowd when he pinned Mysterio with his amazing front flip huracanrana!

The final bell triggered wild celebrations from the Toryumon trio as Rey Mysterio Jr looked on in disbelief. Shane Helms and Billy Kidman couldn't believe that they had come out on the losing end of this contest.

Circuit information:
We were treated to another superlative edition of Thunder tonight and it came to a shocking conclusion with Dragon Kid pinning Rey Mysterio Jr in the six man tag main event. This is unquestionably the biggest victory of the young Toryumon trio's careers and they now have more confidence than ever. The loss has not sat well with the WCW stars, who have challenged the Toryumon grapplers to a best of three series on next week's show to determine once and for all which promotion has the better cruiserweights.

WCW Monday Nitro
July 30th, 2001
MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, NV
Your commentators are Tony Schiavone and Jerry "The King" Lawler.

The remaining members of the Magnificent Seven - WCW World Champion Scott Steiner, Ric Flair and Jeff Jarrett - made their way down to the ring to open the show. Flair cut a promo, saying that their main priority at the Bash at the Beach was to make sure the World Title stays around the waist of Big Poppa Pump. Flair guaranteed that Bill Goldberg, Diamond Dallas Page, The Outsiders or Sting would not win the Battlebowl, because they would do everything in their power to make sure either he or Jarrett win it.

The Outsiders came out to interrupt proceedings. Scott Hall said that it sounded like a great plan and that they looked forward to ruining it. Kevin Nash directed Ric Flair's attention to the steel cage hanging above the ring and warned that when the Outsiders meet Flair and Jeff Jarrett later tonight, there'll be nothing left of them for Battlebowl! Suddenly, Malice attacked the Outsiders from behind on the entrance ramp! The Magnificent Seven left the ring to join in on the beatdown, but then Sting descended from the rafters wielding a baseball bat and ran the heels off!

Tony Schiavone hyped up tonight's steel cage main event between The Outsiders and the team of Ric Flair and Jeff Jarrett as the show went to commercial.

KroniK (Brian Adams and Bryan Clark) defeated Kory Williams and Ashley Hudson
when Clark pinned A. Hudson with the Meltdown in 0:00:56.
Rating: *

KroniK hit Kory Williams with the High Times after the match for good measure. Brian Adams then took the microphone and vowed that no matter who he and Bryan Clark drew as their partners in the Lethal Lottery, they would win their bouts and go on to dominate the battle royal, because they are the most dominate force in World Championship Wrestling.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund and Pamela Paulshock appeared on the stage to continue the Lethal Lottery tournament draw. The teams chosen at random this time were Jerry Lynn and Brian Adams to face Dustin Rhodes and Bryan Clark! KroniK, who were still in the ring, looked pissed about the prospect of wrestling each other and that only one of them would participate in the Battlebowl battle royal.

Mark Jindrak pinned Bam Bam Bigelow after a flying legdrop in 0:07:39.
Rating: ** 1/2

We got a small preview of the Lethal Lottery in this contest as Mark Jindrak and Bam Bam Bigelow will be opponents in the tournament, teaming with Billy Kidman and Cash respectively. Jindrak got one over on Bigelow when he caught Bigelow on the top rope as the Beast from the East prepared to deliver a flying headbutt and slammed him to the mat. Jindrak then pinned Bigelow with a flying legdrop to the back of the head.

Tony Schiavone recapped last week's events, where Maximum Force challenged Chuck Palumbo to face their Problem Solver, C.W. Anderson, in a one-on-one match. The stipulations are that if C.W. wins, Maximum Force get a WCW Tag Team Title shot, but if Palumbo wins, Maximum Force will never get a title shot as long as Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo hold the titles.

C.W. Anderson defeated Chuck Palumbo when Chuck Palumbo passed out in the
Kneeling Armbar in 0:08:18.
Rating: ** 3/4
[Simon Diamond interfered against Chuck Palumbo.]

C.W. Anderson bested Chuck Palumbo is his WCW in-ring debut, but the match was not without controversy. The technically-sound Anderson methodically attacked Palumbo's arm throughout this contest and at one point drove Palumbo's limb into the ringpost! The finish came when Palumbo was recuperating at ringside and had his injured arm resting on the ring steps. Simon Diamond suddenly arrived on the scene with a steel chair and smashed Palumbo's arm with it! Anderson wasted no time in locking on his painful kneeling armbar submission hold and the official called time on the bout when Palumbo stopped answering.

Simon Diamond, Johnny Swinger and Dawn Marie joined C.W. Anderson in the ring and signalled that the WCW World Tag Team Titles were coming to Maximum Force very soon!

Sting pinned Reno with the Scorpion Death Drop in 0:03:12.
Rating: ** 1/4

After Sting had quickly toppled Reno, Don Callis appeared on the video wall. Callis revealed that Ric Flair had offered him and Malice a superb deal to take Sting out of the Lethal Lottery. Callis warned Sting to watch his back and laughed evilly as Sting stormed to the back!

Gene Okerlund and Pamela Paulshock drew another match-up in the Lethal Lottery tournament. This one pits Crowbar and Hugh Morrus against the team of Mike Awesome and C.W. Anderson.

Booker T defeated Mike Awesome by disqualification in 0:13:05.
Rating: *** 1/2

Match of the night honours went to Booker T and Mike Awesome this evening on Nitro, who had a terrific battle. Unfortunately, the bout had a deeply unsatisfying ending. Booker appeared to be heading for victory, dropping Awesome with a missile dropkick which sent the Canadian Killer rolling out to the floor. Frustrated, Awesome returned to the squared circle armed with a steel chair, which he jammed in Booker's gut and then cracked him across the back! The official immediately called for the bell.

Mike Awesome was not finished though, as he planted Booker T with the Awesome Bomb onto the steel chair. When Awesome returned to the backstage area, he was congratulated by Lance Storm on a job well done! Lance Storm and Booker T are on opposite sides in the Lethal Lottery tag team tournament and Storm had obviously sent his henchman out to soften Booker up tonight.

WCW United States Champion Shawn Stasiak, along with Stacy Keibler, made his way out for another title defence. Schiavone on commentary panned Stasiak's ridiculous charade last week where he defended the title against Norman Smiley and hoped that the Mecca of Manhood had selected a credible opponent for tonight. Stasiak took the microphone and claimed that his opponent tonight is a true legend in this business and a worldwide superstar. Stasiak added that this man had been in the ring with such greats as Ted DiBiase, Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Jake Roberts and Andre the Giant and was also a part of the most dominant faction in professional wrestling, the New World Order. None other than Vincent then emerged from the back as the fans voiced their disapproval!

Shawn Stasiak pinned Vincent with the Brush with Greatness in 0:02:09.
Rating: -1/4*
(Shawn Stasiak retained the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship.)

Shawn Stasiak survived an early attempt at the cobra clutch from Vincent, driving him head-first into the turnbuckles. As the crowd chanted for Rob Van Dam, Stasiak decked Vincent with a hard lariat and then pinned him with the Brush with Greatness.

For the second week in a row, Shawn Stasiak pretended that he had just endured the fight of his life. The fans have grown tired of this nonsense and booed the US Champion out of the building.

It was then time for the final Lethal Lottery drawing of the evening. Pamela Paulshock drew out Diamond Dallas Page and Jeff Jarrett as a tag team pairing to face the team of Shawn Stasiak and... Stasiak interrupted the draw and said that he knows how all this works. Stasiak said you had to be a complete moron not to realise that the whole draw is rigged. Stasiak bet that this bimbo, in reference to Paulshock, would draw Rob Van Dam to be his tag team partner so everybody could have a great laugh at Stasiak's expense. Stasiak said that he was not going to let that happen and to ensure fair play he was going to draw his partner himself! Stasiak reached into the bingo ball dispenser, pulled out a ball and cracked it open. The name inside was none other than...Rob Van Dam!

Shawn Stasiak was incredulous and demanded that he was allowed to draw another name. Rob Van Dam then made his way out and the two men had a confrontation. Van Dam said that Stasiak was tarnishing the legacy of the US Title by defending it against has-beens every week. RVD said that Stasiak would have to defend the title against him sooner or later, and when he does a new champion will be crowned. Stasiak and RVD got in each other's face and had to be separated by officials as the show went to commercial!

The steel cage was lowered down around the ring as anticipation built for the main event. A video package rolled documenting the feud between Kevin Nash and the subsequent return to WCW of Scott Hall. Ric Flair and Jeff Jarrett made their entrance to the usual hostile reception, before The Outsiders came out to a loud ovation. As Kevin Nash and Scott Hall walked down the ramp, Scott Steiner ran down and clocked Hall in the back of the head with a lead pipe! Flair and Jarrett then left the cage and joined Steiner in attacking Nash! The crowd booed and jeered as Flair and Jarrett dragged Nash into the cage. Scott Steiner punched out the official and locked the door, leaving Nash alone in the cage with Flair and Jarrett!! Flair and Jarrett did a number on Nash's injured knee while Steiner looked on from ringside, delighted. Scott Hall was still laid out unconscious on the entrance ramp!

Suddenly, there was an enormous crowd pop as Bill Goldberg stormed through the crowd!! Goldberg hopped the guardrail and climbed up and over the steel cage! Goldberg made the save for Nash, laying out Ric Flair and Jeff Jarrett with two crushing spears!! Goldberg and Scott Steiner then had an intense staredown, with Goldberg in the ring and Steiner outside the cage! The atmosphere in the arena was electric as the two men yelled at each other through the mesh fence!!

Circuit information:
Tonight's steel cage main event never got started as the Magnificent Seven attacked The Outsiders as they made their entrance. Scott Steiner knocked out Scott Hall with his lead pipe, while Ric Flair and Jeff Jarrett locked Kevin Nash inside the cage and viciously went after his injured knee. Thankfully, Bill Goldberg was on hand to make the save and he and Steiner stared each other down to end the show. At the Bash at the Beach, Flair and Jarrett are going all out to keep the title around Scott Steiner's waist. However, both men have been drawn against formidable opponents, although they have each been assigned a very capable partner. Flair tags with Malice to face Kevin Nash and Sting, while Jarrett has been paired with Diamond Dallas Page to battle Shawn Stasiak and Rob Van Dam. More on this later.

The Magnificent Seven have also drafted in Malice to do their dirty work and prevent Sting from winning Battlebowl. There is no love lost between Malice and Sting and if the team of Malice and Ric Flair are victorious in the Lethal Lottery, then they'll have eliminated two serious threats to the WCW World Heavyweight Title in Kevin Nash and Sting.

As mentioned earlier, bitter rivals Shawn Stasiak and Rob Van Dam will be forced to pair up at the Lethal Lottery. US Champion Stasiak has been dodging the inevitable title defence against Rob Van Dam. How will these men fare as a team when a shot at the World Title is at stake?

C.W. Anderson earned a World Tag Team Title shot for Maximum Force with victory over Chuck Palumbo, but it took interference from a chair wielding Simon Diamond to get the job done. We understand that this title match will take place when Sean O'Haire has been given the all-clear to return to action.

Let's take a look at how the Lethal Lottery tag team tournament is shaping up for the Bash at the Beach on Sunday, August 12th:
Lance Storm and Scott Hall vs. Booker T and Chavo Guerrero Jr.

Bam Bam Bigelow and Cash vs. Billy Kidman and Mark Jindrak

Kevin Nash and Sting vs. Ric Flair and Malice

Jerry Lynn and Brian Adams vs. Dustin Rhodes and Bryan Clark

Mike Awesome and C.W. Anderson vs. Crowbar and Hugh Morrus

Jeff Jarrett and Diamond Dallas Page vs. Shawn Stasiak and Rob Van Dam

The remaining two tag team matches will be drawn on Nitro next week. We can also confirm that Shane Helms vs. Taka Michinoku for the Cruiserweight Title is official for the Bash at the Beach.

Breaking news from Eric Bischoff's office...a huge six man tag team main event has been signed for next week's edition of Monday Nitro!! In order to compensate for tonight's ruined main event, Bischoff has booked a bout pitting the team of Sting and The Outsiders against the nefarious trio of Scott Steiner, Jeff Jarrett and Ric Flair!! Make sure you tune in next week for this one!

The Jung Dragons dropped out of the Elimination Chase this week on Thunder in a terrific match. AJ Styles was able to pin Yang in a stunning sequence when he reversed Yang's Asai moonsault bodyblock into a powerslam for the three count! Air Raid will now square off with Cash and Jamie Knoble on next week's show to determine the next challengers to Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr's Cruiserweight Tag Team Titles.

Crowbar pinned Jason Jett after a swinging neckbreaker in 0:10:11.
Rating: *** 1/2
[Daffney interfered against Jason Jett.]

Crowbar dropped Jason Jett in another tremendous contest when he drilled Jett with a swinging neckbreaker through the ropes as Jett was returning to the ring.

Backstage, Jeremy Borash interviewed WCW Cruiserweight Champion Shane Helms. Borash asked Helms if he was sidetracked by the best of three series with Toryumon next week ahead of his title defence against Taka Michinoku at the Bash at the Beach. Helms said he was committed to helping WCW emerge victorious next week and then Michinoku would get his undivided attention.

As Mikey Henderson made his way out for his match with Chavo Guerrero Jr, Mike Tenay put over the fact that Henderson first worked out with professional wrestlers at the age of eleven and won his first title at the age of fifteen.

Mikey Henderson pinned Chavo Guerrero Jr. with the Miracle Maker in 0:11:33.
Rating: ****

Movie star "Miracle" Mikey Henderson busted out the high impact offence here tonight on Thunder, using a spinning backbreaker, an Asai moonsault and a Rack Bomb. Chavo Guererro Jr. went for a tornado DDT, but Henderson threw him off and hit the Miracle Maker for the three count.

Taka Michinoku pinned Shannon Moore after a German suplex in 0:09:42.
Rating: *** 3/4

Taka Michinoku warmed up for his Cruiserweight Title match at the Bash at the Beach with victory over Shannon Moore. Moore picked up a succession of near falls with a flying somersault neckbreaker, a flying cross body press and a sleeper slam. However, Michinoku came back with a springboard dropkick and a succession of wicked kicks to the head, before putting Moore away with a German suplex hold.

Shannon Moore tried to shake hands with Taka Michinoku after the contest, but Taka pulled him into a Michinoku Driver! As the fans voiced their disapproval, Michinoku then took the microphone and in broken English, vowed to defeat Shane Helms for the Cruiserweight Title! Helms then hit the ring and the two men had a pull-apart brawl as the show went off-air!

Circuit information:
The best of three series between World Championship Wrestling and Toryumon will take place next week right here on Thunder. The three singles matches will see WCW Cruiserweight Champion Shane Helms square off against Ryo Saito, Billy Kidman take on Ricky Marvin and in a dream match for all wrestling fans, Rey Mysterio Jr. battles Dragon Kid! Which company will reign supreme? Tune in next week to find out!!

WCW Monday Nitro
August 6th, 2001
MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, NV
Your commentators are Tony Schiavone and Jerry "The King" Lawler.

The final edition of Nitro before the Bash at the Beach pay-per-view began with WCW United States Champion Shawn Stasiak making his way down to the ring. Stasiak was accompanied as ever by the gorgeous Stacy Keibler. A serious Stasiak took the microphone and noted that he'd been drawn to pair up with Rob Van Dam in the Lethal Lottery. Stasiak sneered as the crowd chanted, "R-V-D!". Stasiak addressed the well-documented bad blood between the two men and said he wanted to settle the score between them right here tonight. The Mecca of Manhood said that he wanted no problems between them going into the pay-per-view, because they needed to be a cohesive unit in their tag team match to have a chance of going on to the Battlebowl. Stasiak revealed that after thinking long and hard about it, he was going to grant Rob Van Dam his US Title shot right here tonight on Nitro!!!

The crowd popped at the prospect of Rob Van Dam finally getting his shot at the United States Title, when Eric Bischoff emerged from the back. Bischoff sarcastically applauded Shawn Stasiak and congratulated him on his Oscar-winning acting performance! Bischoff said that Stasiak knows as well as he does that Rob Van Dam is not here tonight - he's wrestling on tour in Japan! The crowd jeered, seeing their US Title match disappear before their very eyes. Stasiak lied that he had no idea and then smirked. Bischoff told him to wipe that smile off his face and informed Stasiak that RVD would get his title shot next week on Nitro! Stasiak was raging and his mood was about to get no better as Bischoff told him he wasn't going to get off easy tonight. Bischoff told Stasiak he had a match right now...against Diamond Dallas Page!!

Shawn Stasiak defeated Diamond Dallas Page by countout in 0:14:40.
Rating: ** 1/4
[Stacy Keibler interfered against Diamond Dallas Page.]

Diamond Dallas Page was returning to action after fracturing a bone in his arm in that barbaric I Quit Match against Kanyon at the Great American Bash and was given a great ovation from the crowd. Stasiak predictably went after Page's injury, tearing off the small cast that was protecting the arm. Page recorded a near fall with the Trip to the Diamond Mine and took out Stasiak at ringside with a plancha. However, as Page attempted to return to the ring, Stacy Keibler held onto his leg and DDP couldn't make it back in before the count of ten!

Shawn Stasiak's post-match celebrations were cut short when Diamond Dallas Page laid him out with the Diamond Cutter to a rapturous response! Page and Stasiak will be on opposite teams in the Lethal Lottery this Sunday!!

"Mean" Gene Okerlund and Pamela Paulshock conducted another random drawing for the Lethal Lottery tag team tournament. Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo - already an established tag team - were drawn together to face the team of Ernest Miller...and Bill Goldberg!! The fans erupted in a booming "Gold-berg!" chant!

Simon Diamond pinned Lash LeRoux with the Simonizer in 0:06:05.
Rating: ** 3/4

After the match, Simon Diamond was joined in the ring by Johnny Swinger. Simon took the mike and disingenuously wished Sean O'Haire a speedy recovery. He added that the sooner O'Haire returns to action, the sooner Maximum Force can take the WCW World Tag Team Titles!

Backstage, Gene Okerlund interviewed Chuck Palumbo. Palumbo took exception to Okerlund enquiring about the health of Sean O'Haire. Palumbo lashed out, claiming that people are always asking about Sean O'Haire, but never about him. Palumbo complained that while O'Haire sits at home, he's the one that's been getting beaten down by Maximum Force night after night and even nearly had his arm shattered last week! Palumbo stormed off while a shocked Okerlund looked on!

Footage was shown from last week's match-up between Booker T and Mike Awesome, where Awesome was DQed for hitting Booker with a chair. Post-match, Awesome laid out Booker with an Awesome Bomb onto the steel chair. It soon emerged that the attack was the brainchild of Lance Storm, who wanted Booker T softened up ahead of their tag team match in the Lethal Lottery. Booker T has his chance for revenge tonight in a rematch with the Canadian Killer.

Booker T pinned Mike Awesome after a small package in 0:13:18.
Rating: **** 1/4
[Lance Storm interfered against Booker T.]

Last week's bout between these two men was really good, but tonight's encounter blew that one away! Booker T scored near falls with a missile dropkick, a spinebuster and a jumping side kick, while Mike Awesome utilised a slingshot shoulderblock and an overhead belly-to-belly suplex. The Canadian Killer nailed Booker with a release German suplex and then went up top for the Awesome Splash, but Booker rolled out of the way. That botched move brought Lance Storm out to ringside. Booker hit the ax kick and covered, but Storm put Awesome's foot on the bottom rope! Booker and Storm got into an argument on the ring apron, but as Awesome charged, Booker sent him into his stablemate and then small packaged him for the pin!

Lance Storm and Mike Awesome attacked Booker T after the bell and put the boots to him. Suddenly, Chavo Guerrero Jr. of all people ran down to make the save! Chavo dropped both Storm and Awesome with a springboard dropkick and Team Canada left to fight another day! Chavo and Booker are set to team up in the Lethal Lottery tag team tournament this Sunday. Booker thanked Chavo for his help as a small "Chavo" chant broke out.

Ernest Miller pinned Disco Inferno with the Feliner in 0:04:46.
Rating: ** 3/4

Ernest Miller, who must be licking his lips at the prospect of tagging up with Goldberg in the Lethal Lottery tag team tourney, warmed up for the Bash at the Beach with a victory over Disco Inferno.

Gene Okerlund and Pamela Paulshock drew out the combination of teams for the final match in the Lethal Lottery. This bout will see Rey Mysterio Jr. team up with Jason Jett to battle Chris Kanyon and... The ball that Paulshock picked out only contained a piece of paper with a question mark on it! Chris Kanyon then came out from the back, demanding to know what was going on. However, Okerlund and Paulshock were clueless. Eric Bischoff appeared on the video wall and said that Kanyon's partner would remain a mystery until the pay-per-view! Kanyon was irate, asking how he is supposed to prepare for his match when he doesn't even know who his partner is!

The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) and Sting defeated
The Magnificent Seven (Jeff Jarrett, Ric Flair and Scott Steiner) when Hall
pinned Jarrett after an inside cradle in 0:22:13.
Rating: ** 1/4

This huge main event got off to a wild and crazy start with all six men brawling all over the building! The bout eventually settled down, with the heels getting the heat on Scott Hall. Hall made the hot tag to Sting, who exploded into action on the Magnificent Seven, Stinger Splashing everyone in sight! The official lost all control towards the end of the contest as all six men fought in the ring. In the end, Scott Hall rolled up Jeff Jarrett for the three count, grabbing a handful of tights for good measure!

The loss did not sit well with the Magnificent Seven, who attacked the celebrating winning trio. Sting and The Outsiders fought back, which brought out Malice to swing the odds back in the heels' favour. Scott Steiner, Jeff Jarrett, Ric Flair and Malice ruthlessly beat down Sting and The Outsiders and when officials tried to intervene, they were punched out or thrown to the floor. The Magnificent Seven were determined to prevent all of these three men from winning the Battlebowl.

All of a sudden, Bill Goldberg sprinted out from the back to a monster pop!! Goldberg hit the ring and decked Malice with a hard clothesline! Da Man knocked Jeff Jarrett out of the ring with a superkick and then pressed Ric Flair over the top rope on top of the Chosen One!! The crowd were going absolutely crazy as Goldberg prepared to square off with the World Champion, Scott Steiner!! Steiner dared Goldberg to hit him, but before he had the chance Malice jumped Goldberg from behind. As Steiner looked on, Malice drilled Goldberg with a tree slam. Malice dragged Goldberg to his knees and held Goldberg's arms behind his back as Big Poppa Pump grabbed his championship belt and shoved it in Goldberg's face! While Goldberg struggled against Malice's vice-like grip, Steiner yelled that Goldberg would never, ever take his title away from him! Goldberg looked as if he might explode with anger as Nitro drew to a close!!

Circuit information:
Next week on Monday Nitro, we will bring you two huge championship clashes. Rob Van Dam will finally get his shot at the US Title, currently in the possession of Shawn Stasiak, while Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo will defend their WCW World Tag Team Titles against Maximum Force, Simon Diamond and Johnny Swinger. We can exclusively reveal that doctors have cleared O'Haire to compete next week following that nasty concussion he suffered three weeks ago. Chuck Palumbo's reaction to the question from Gene Okerlund tonight concerning O'Haire's health certainly caught a lot of people off guard. Palumbo has had to go it alone recently while O'Haire has been convalescing and these events appear to have taken their toll on him.

But ahead of next week's huge edition of Nitro, there's the Bash at the Beach this Sunday night live on pay-per-view! This show features the Battlebowl battle royal, where the man who emerges victorious will earn a shot at Scott Steiner's WCW World Championship. The Magnificent Seven have made it their M.O. to preserve the title around the waist of Big Poppa Pump and the best way of doing that is ensuring that either Ric Flair or Jeff Jarrett wins the Battlebowl! Failing that, the Magnificent Seven are hellbent on making sure that none of the favourites for the Battlebowl - Bill Goldberg, Diamond Dallas Page, Sting or The Outsiders - win the contest, and they have drafted in the services of Malice to help them achieve this. Let's preview the card in full:

Lethal Lottery Tag Team Tournament
Lance Storm and Scott Hall vs. Booker T and Chavo Guerrero Jr.

Bam Bam Bigelow and Cash vs. Billy Kidman and Mark Jindrak

Kevin Nash and Sting vs. Ric Flair and Malice

Jerry Lynn and Brian Adams vs. Dustin Rhodes and Bryan Clark

Mike Awesome and C.W. Anderson vs. Crowbar and Hugh Morrus

Jeff Jarrett and Diamond Dallas Page vs. Shawn Stasiak and Rob Van Dam

Bill Goldberg and Ernest Miller vs. Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo

Rey Mysterio Jr. and Jason Jett vs. Chris Kanyon and ???

The eight winning teams will then advance to an every-man-for-themselves 16-man battle royal, with the winner earning a WCW World Heavyweight Title shot!

WCW Cruiserweight Championship:
Shane Helms vs. Taka Michinoku

It is certain to be an unpredictable and exhilarating night of action and the only way you can be a part of it is by tuning in live this Sunday on pay-per-view! See you then everybody!!

MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, NV
Your commentators are Mike Tenay and Scott Hudson.

Mike Tenay and Scott Hudson opened the show by plugging tonight's best of three singles series between WCW and Toryumon's best cruiserweights. The winning company will be able to boast that they are home to the best cruiserweights in the world!

[Elimination Chase]:
Cash and Jamie Knoble defeated Air Raid (Air Paris and AJ Styles) when Cash
pinned Paris with the Money Maker in 0:12:07.
Rating: *** 1/4

Cash and Jamie Knoble have only been tagging for about a month but they emerged victorious in the Elimination Chase with victory over the young team of Air Raid in tonight's opening contest. Knoble took out AJ Styles on the outside of the ring with a tiger driver. In the ring, Cash avoided a moonsault from Air Paris and connected with his butterfly piledriver for the pin. Cash and Jamie Knoble are now the number one contenders to the WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Titles.

Ricky Marvin pinned Billy Kidman after a power bomb in 0:09:44.
Rating: **** 1/4

The best of three series between WCW and Toryumon got off to a cracking start with this superb bout. In an incredible spot, Ricky Marvin used a rope running dropkick which sent Billy Kidman to the outside. Kidman came back with a spinebuster bomb and a guillotine legdrop. Kidman went for the shooting star press, but Marvin caught him on the top rope and countered with a stunning moonsault slam! Kidman scored with a flying dropkick and attempted a flying huracanrana, but Marvin planted him with a power bomb for the three count, bringing this terrific contest to an end! First blood to Toryumon!

Shane Helms pinned Ryo Saito with the Vertebreaker in 0:09:52.
Rating: ** 1/4

Questions had been raised before this bout regarding Shane Helms' mindset - was the Cruiserweight Champion focused on this series with Toryumon or did he have one eye on his title defence against Taka Michinoku this Sunday at the Bash at the Beach? Helms started well here against Ryo Saito, using a facebuster onto the knee, a neckbreaker and a fistdrop off the second rope. Helms went for a splash off the top rope, but Saito got his knees up and then hit a series of fisherman suplexes into a fisherman buster. Saito got a two count off a superplex. Helms came back with the Nightmare on Helms Street, but Saito got his foot on the bottom rope. Saito went for the Premium Bridge, but Helms blocked it and hit the Vertebreaker to tie the series at one match apiece.

Mike Tenay and Scott Hudson hyped up the main event between Rey Mysterio Jr and Dragon Kid, which is now essentially a winner-takes-all bout with the man who scores the victory winning the series for their company!

Rey Mysterio Jr. pinned Dragon Kid with the Super Huracanrana in 0:10:44.
Rating: *** 1/2

This match opened with both guys doing 100 mile per hour spectacular high spots. Dragon Kid hit a moonsault off the middle rope to the floor and a super huracanrana off the top. Rey Mysterio Jr returned fire with a springboard moonsault and a nice Frankensteiner off the apron to ringside. This bout was back and forth constantly and the fans were on the edge of their seats! Kid hit a twisting DDT. Mysterio went for a suplex but Kid turned it into a stunner. Kid went for the Dragon Rana, but Mysterio rolled with it and sunset flipped him for an incredible near fall!! Rey hit a DDT of his own and then pinned Dragon Kid with the Super Huracanrana, giving World Championship Wrestling the victory!

Both athletes received a well-deserved standing ovation after the bout. Rey Mysterio Jr and Dragon Kid shook hands in a mutual show of respect afterward, before Kid made his exit to let Mysterio soak in the adulation from the crowd. Suddenly, Cash and Jamie Knoble hit the ring and pounced upon Mysterio, ruining this splendid moment! Cash and Knoble absolutely destroyed Mysterio until Billy Kidman ran out to make the save. While Kidman tended to his tag team partner, Cash and Knoble looked very pleased with their dirty work. Cash and Knoble warned the Cruiserweight Tag Team Champions that they're coming for the gold as the show went off air!

We enjoyed a superlative night of action here tonight on Thunder, where WCW defeated Toryumon 2-1 in the best of three series. We want to take this opportunity to thank the stars of Toryumon for entertaining us over the last month with their own indomitable style and we hope to welcome them back as soon as possible.

After Rey Mysterio Jr had downed Dragon Kid to win the series in a blistering encounter, he was brutalised by Cash and Jamie Knoble. Cash and Knoble had earned a shot at the Cruiserweight Tag Team Titles earlier in the night with victory in the Elimination Chase and were keen to send a message to one half of the champions. Cash and Knoble didn't give Mysterio a chance to enjoy one of the greatest nights of his career and showed complete contempt for the company as well. At the Bash at the Beach this Sunday, Billy Kidman has the opportunity to gain a measure of revenge for his tag team partner as he and Cash are on opposite sides in a Lethal Lottery tag team match.

Also on Sunday's pay-per-view, the Cruiserweight Title is on the line as Shane Helms defends against Taka Michinoku. Michinoku has revolutionised the light heavyweight division in every organisation in which he has competed and this is certainly the biggest challenge Helms has had to face during his title reign.

WCW BASH AT THE BEACH
August 12th, 2001
Ocean Center, Daytona Beach, FL
Your commentators are Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Jerry "The King" Lawler.

Ahead of the opening Lethal Lottery tag team match pitting Chris Kanyon and a mystery partner against Rey Mysterio Jr and Jason Jett, Kanyon took the microphone and complained that he had no idea who he was supposed to be teaming with. As Kanyon moaned that he was at a serious disadvantage, he was interrupted by the return to WCW of the flamboyant Johnny B. Badd!! The fans gave Badd, who was accompanied by his stunning wife Rena, a nice reaction. Kanyon looked disgusted with his mystery tag team partner as Badd fired his Badd Blaster, covering the fans in confetti.

[Lethal Lottery Tag Team Tournament]:
Chris Kanyon and Johnny B. Badd defeated Jason Jett and Rey Mysterio Jr. when
Kanyon pinned Jett with the Flatliner in 0:06:32.
Rating: *** 1/4
[Kimberly interfered against Jason Jett.]

Despite Chris Kanyon's obvious disapproval of his tag partner Johnny B. Badd, the two men worked surprisingly well together against their cruiserweight opponents. Kimberly was agitated with how much attention Rena was getting from the fans at ringside. Badd hit his new finisher on Jason Jett, a fireman's carry spun into an Ace Crusher that he calls the Badd Day, but Rey Mysterio Jr broke up the pin. Badd used a slingshot to send Jett into the path of Kanyon and his Flatliner to end this solid outing. Badd and Kanyon advance to the Battlebowl.

Johnny B. Badd and Rena celebrated their victorious return to WCW after the match. The festivities were short-lived however as Kanyon laid out Badd with the Flatliner! Kimberly smirked at Rena before she accompanied Kanyon up the aisle to boos from the crowd.

[Lethal Lottery Tag Team Tournament]:
Lance Storm and Scott Hall defeated Booker T and Chavo Guerrero Jr. when
L. Storm made Chavo Jr. submit to the Canadian Maple Leaf in 0:08:09.
Rating: ***

In the second Lethal Lottery Tag Team Tournament match it was the team of Scott Hall and Lance Storm who were victorious over Booker T and Chavo Guerrero Jr. Booker has had his problems with Team Canada recently and he dominated Storm for most of this bout. Storm tapped out Chavo to the Maple Leaf though, leaving Booker frustrated at missing out on the Battlebowl and a potential shot at the World Championship.

[Lethal Lottery Tag Team Tournament]:
Bam Bam Bigelow and Cash defeated Billy Kidman and Mark Jindrak when Cash
pinned Kidman with the Money Maker in 0:05:11.
Rating: ** 3/4

The team of Cash and Jamie Knoble will challenge the Filthy Animals contingent of Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio Jr for the Cruiserweight Tag Team Titles very soon. Ahead of that match, Cash grabbed the psychological advantage for his team as he pinned Kidman with the Money Maker here tonight, sending he and Bam Bam Bigelow to the Battlebowl in the main event.

[Lethal Lottery Tag Team Tournament]:
Sting and Kevin Nash defeated Malice and Ric Flair when Sting defeated Malice
by disqualification in 0:08:11.
Rating: * 1/4

The hostility and resentment between Sting and Malice and also Ric Flair and Kevin Nash is well-documented and it all came to a head in this tag team bout. Flair's plan of winning this bout at all costs and keeping Nash and Sting out of the Battlebowl unravelled before his eyes when Malice lost all self-control and waffled Sting with a steel chair right in front of the official, getting himself and Flair disqualified!

After the bout, Malice tried to strike Kevin Nash with the chair, but Nash kicked the chair back into his face and Sting sent Malice packing! Sting and Nash are now in the Battlebowl and have to go down as two of the favourites to win it!

Backstage, there was dissention between the Magnificent Seven and Malice. Flair chewed Malice out, ranting that their plan had been to defeat Sting and Kevin Nash and now Malice had screwed it up! Don Callis attempted to calm Flair down and asserted that he could fix things.

[Lethal Lottery Tag Team Tournament]:
Brian Adams and Jerry Lynn defeated Bryan Clark and Dustin Rhodes when B. Adams
pinned D. Rhodes with the Full Nelson Slam in 0:05:09.
Rating: ** 3/4
[Tylene interfered against Brian Adams.]

The team of KroniK were on opposite sides in this encounter and had no problem in mixing it up with each other. Tylene tripped Brian Adams in an attempt to swing the advantage in the favour of her man Dustin Rhodes' team, but Bryan Clark took exception to this and had words with her. This didn't sit well with Rhodes, who warned Clark to back off. The distraction proved costly as Adams drilled Rhodes with a full nelson slam for the pin.

Dustin Rhodes and Tylene stormed off after the bout, leaving KroniK in the ring with Jerry Lynn. Brian Adams and Bryan Clark shook hands, symbolising that they are still a team despite battling each other tonight, before leaving Lynn laying with the High Times!

[Lethal Lottery Tag Team Tournament]:
C.W. Anderson and Mike Awesome defeated Crowbar and Hugh Morrus when Awesome
pinned Crowbar after a running Awesome Bomb in 0:06:00.
Rating: ** 3/4

C.W. Anderson and Mike Awesome advanced to the Battlebowl main event at the expense of Hugh Morrus and Crowbar after a pretty good scrap. Anderson looked good in his WCW pay-per-view debut, scoring a near fall off a spinebuster on Morrus and almost making Crowbar tap to the kneeling armbar. Awesome rocked Crowbar with a running power bomb for the three count.

A disgruntled Hugh Morrus snapped after the match, attacking Crowbar mercilessly out of nowhere! Morrus dropped Crowbar with a sickening DDT and pounded him with a barrage of stiff punches. Daffney tried to intervene, jumping on Morrus' back, but Morrus slammed her down to the mat by the hair! Morrus then destroyed Daffney with a wicked power bomb! The ring flooded with officials, preventing Morrus from doing any further damage. Hugh Morrus was booed out of the building as he exited the squared circle.

Backstage, Gene Okerlund interviewed the team of Rob Van Dam and Shawn Stasiak ahead of their Lethal Lottery tag team match against Jeff Jarrett and Diamond Dallas Page. The tension between the two men was evident due to the fact that they will meet on Nitro tomorrow night for Stasiak's US Title. Stasiak arrogantly told RVD to stay on the apron for the duration of the bout and he would handle things in the ring. Stasiak got a shot in about Van Dam kicking like a high school cheerleader! Van Dam scowled st Stasiak, but the Mecca of Manhood told him to calm down and get his head in the game. Stasiak appreciated that Van Dam hates his guts, but warned that RVD has to hold up his end of the bargain if they want any chance of earning a shot at the World Title. Stasiak suggested that they put their issues to one side tonight and extended his hand for Van Dam to shake. The Whole F'N Show looked at Stasiak with utter contempt and walked off.

[Lethal Lottery Tag Team Tournament]:
Diamond Dallas Page and Jeff Jarrett defeated Rob Van Dam and Shawn Stasiak
when Jarrett pinned RVD after a side suplex in 0:10:10.
Rating: ***

There was serious friction between Rob Van Dam and Shawn Stasiak throughout this contest, with the tags between the two becoming more and more aggressive. Van Dam had the match in control for his team, knocking Diamond Dallas Page off the apron with a springboard side kick and blasting Jeff Jarrett with a windmill kick. RVD sprang to the top rope and pointed to himself, preparing to deliver the Five Star Frog Splash. However, at that moment Stasiak turned on RVD, shoving him off the top rope into the ring!! The fans jeered Stasiak as he left the ringside area, while Jarrett hit a side slam on RVD for the pinfall.

Diamond Dallas Page dragged himself back into the ring after the contest was over, but just as he got back to his feet Jeff Jarrett smashed his guitar over Page's head! DDP crumpled to the mat in a heap as the Magnificent Seven soften up another man they view as a threat to Scott Steiner's World Title!

Backstage, Jeremy Borash tried to grab a word with Shawn Stasiak as he came back through the curtain. Borash questioned why Stasiak would cost himself a shot at the World Title just to get one over on Rob Van Dam. Stasiak stressed that the US Title is the most important thing in the world to him and he wasn't going to let anybody take it away from him! RVD then exploded onto the scene and attacked Stasiak! A brawl broke out backstage, but it was quickly quelled by road agents and officials! It's Van Dam vs. Stasiak tomorrow night on Nitro for the US Title!!

Gene Okerlund conducted an interview with Ernest Miller ahead of the final Lethal Lottery tag team match. Okerlund assumed that The Cat must have been delighted that he was drawn to team with Bill Goldberg, as it certainly increases his chances of making it to the Battlebowl. Suddenly, Miller was jumped by the Magnificent Seven!! Ric Flair and Jeff Jarrett put the boots to Miller and threw him through a set of double doors. Scott Steiner then lifted The Cat up over his shoulders and launched him through a plate-glass window! Okerlund called frantically for the paramedics as the Magnificent Seven left the scene.

As Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo made their way out, Tony Schiavone received word from the back that there was no way Ernest Miller would be able to compete as a result of that savage attack. This meant Bill Goldberg would have to go it alone against an established tag team! Could Skipper and Romeo defeat Goldberg and stop him from reaching the Battlebowl, leaving the Magnificent Seven overjoyed??

[Lethal Lottery Tag Team Tournament]:
Handicap-Match:
Bill Goldberg defeated Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo when Goldberg pinned Skipper
with the Jackhammer in 0:03:51.
Rating: ***

The Magnificent Seven's brutal beatdown of Ernest Miller, ruling him out of this contest, was all for nought as Bill Goldberg hammered his opponents. At one point, Goldberg hoisted up both Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo for a double suplex! Goldberg pinned Skipper with a jackhammer to book his place in the Battlebowl.

Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay and Jerry Lawler reviewed the list of participants in the Battlebowl:
Bam Bam Bigelow
Bill Goldberg
Brian Adams
C.W. Anderson
Cash
Chris Kanyon
Diamond Dallas Page
Jeff Jarrett
Jerry Lynn
Johnny B. Badd
Kevin Nash
Lance Storm
Mike Awesome
Scott Hall
Sting
The announcers surmised that the best outcome for Scott Steiner and The Magnificent Seven would be for Jeff Jarrett to win the match, as there is no way Jarrett would challenge his stablemate for the title. The nefarious group's plans of preventing Goldberg, DDP, Sting and The Outsiders from reaching the Battlebowl had been ineffectual - how could they prohibit one of these men from winning it?!

Taka Michinoku pinned Shane Helms with the Michinoku Driver in 0:12:30.
Rating: ****
(Taka Michinoku won the WCW Cruiserweight Championship.)

This battle for the Cruiserweight Title got off to a frantic start as Taka Michinoku blasted Shane Helms with a plancha as the champion made his entrance! Taka worked over Helms with chops, but Helms came back with spinning headscissors which sent Taka to the floor. Helms followed up with a beautiful running somersault plancha which the fans loved! Helms used a facebuster onto the knee and an X-Plex. Taka came back with an enzuigiri and a major brain buster, but missed a moonsault and ate mat! Helms hit a tornado DDT and went for the pin, but Taka kicked out. Helms looked for the Vertebreaker, but Michinoku retaliated with a hard knee to the head and a springboard missile DDT. Taka then hit the Michinoku Driver to snare the title!

[Ric Flair interfered against Scott Hall.]
[Malice interfered against Sting.]

The winner of tonight's Battlebowl earns a WCW Title shot in the near future and all 15 men went all out for victory. Johnny B. Badd gained a measure of revenge on Chris Kanyon for laying him out with the Flatliner by eliminating him early on. Mike Awesome, who was one of the most impressive performers in the match and ended up eliminating four men, tossed out Badd. Ric Flair made his way down to ringside after about seven minutes and grabbed a hold of Scott Hall's leg as the Bad Guy duelled with Jeff Jarrett. As Hall tried to swat Flair away, Jarrett dumped him over the top rope to a chorus of boos! Hall attacked Flair at ringside and as Jarrett looked on from the ring, Kevin Nash made his way over and hurled the Chosen One out of the ring! Incensed, Jarrett got back onto the ring apron and grabbed Nash, leaving Big Sexy easy pickings for Awesome to eliminate him! A wild brawl then erupted at ringside between The Outsiders and Flair and Jarrett, bringing out several officials and agents in an attempt to separate them!

As the fight raged on at ringside, Sting threw out C.W. Anderson. Lance Storm jumped Sting and placed him on the top rope for a superplex, just as Malice made his way through the crowd! Sting blocked Storm's move and knocked him off the turnbuckles with a headbutt. With Sting still perched on the top rope, Malice leapt onto the apron and shoved Sting off the turnbuckle! Sting fell to ringside hard! Malice then grabbed Sting and choke slammed him through the announcers' table!! The Sting-Malice feud shows no sign of abating!

Jerry Lynn was on the receiving end of the High Times from KroniK after helping his partner Brian Adams reach the Battlebowl. He returned the favour by helping eliminate Adams, using a flying huracanrana to send Adams into the path of a Mike Awesome clothesline. Bill Goldberg, who had been quiet so far, pressed Lynn out soon after. Goldberg was about to explode into life though as he clotheslined Bam Bam Bigelow out of the ring. The bout came down to four men - Goldberg, Diamond Dallas Page and Team Canada members Lance Storm and Mike Awesome. DDP went for a Diamond Cutter on Awesome, but the Canadian Killer blocked it by lifting Page up and dumping him out of the ring! The odds were against Goldberg as he was left in the ring with Team Canada, but the crowd were firmly behind him! Goldberg sent Storm flying with a hiptoss and then blasted Awesome with a crunching spear! With the fans going absolutely crazy, Goldberg eliminated Awesome to win the Battlebowl and earn a shot at Scott Steiner's WCW Championship!

The show ended with the fans rejoicing over the stunning victory of Bill Goldberg. The cameras then cut to the back, where Scott Steiner had been watching proceedings on a monitor. Steiner, furious about the outcome of the match, threw the monitor against a wall and started smashing up the backstage area in a fit of rage!

Circuit information:
The Magnificent Seven's plan to stop a top contender from winning the Battlebowl ended in failure tonight as Bill Goldberg emerged victorious, earning a WCW World Title shot in the process. Earlier in the evening, the Magnificent Seven had severely injured Goldberg's tag team partner in the Lethal Lottery tournament, Ernest Miller, with Scott Steiner throwing him through a plate glass window! The unstoppable Goldberg went on to defeat Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo by himself and then blasted through fourteen other men in the Battlebowl. Goldberg and Steiner are now on a collision course over the WCW Title and there's nothing that the Magnificent Seven can do about it!

The Magnificent Seven did however achieve a modicum of success, interfering in the Battlebowl to cause the eliminations of the Outsiders. The Outsiders have had their problems with Ric Flair and Jeff Jarrett for several weeks and the ensuing brawl took an army of WCW officials an age to restore order. In fact, the referees assigned to the Battlebowl were so caught up in the melee that they missed Malice shoving Sting out of the ring and choke slamming him through a table! Malice was keen to get back in the good books of the Magnificent Seven after messing up earlier in the night, costing himself and Ric Flair a place in the Battlebowl at the expense of Sting and Kevin Nash. This is the second straight pay-per-view that Malice has cost Sting a shot at the biggest prize in our sport and you can bet that Sting is eyeing revenge against Malice when the two men eventually clash one-on-one!

Congratulations to Taka Michinoku, who captured the Cruiserweight Title from Shane Helms tonight. Michinoku has really shook up the cruiserweight division since arriving in WCW several weeks ago and is well on his way to achieving the much-needed respect he deserves. WCW has the best roster of cruiserweights anywhere in the world and Michinoku will find no shortage of challengers for his newly won title.

Shawn Stasiak allowed his hatred of Rob Van Dam to boil over tonight, attacking his Lethal Lottery tag team partner during the course of their match. This meant that both men missed out on the opportunity to challenge for the World Title. Stasiak has been dragging his feet as long as he can before giving Van Dam a shot at his United States Championship, but tomorrow night on Nitro that long-awaited title match will take place!

It was great to see Johnny B. Badd returning to WCW tonight, but already trouble seems to be brewing between him and Kanyon. We don't think that Rena and Kimberly like each other, either!

Tygress and Ms Jones, who didn't do much anyway, have been future endeavoured.

Tune in tomorrow night for Monday Nitro, live from the MGM Studios in Orlando, Florida, for what is shaping up to be a packed show! In addition to that US Title Match between Shawn Stasiak and Rob Van Dam, Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo defend the WCW Tag Team Titles against Maximum Force and Eric Bischoff has some comments for the Magnificent Seven! Thanks for joining us for the Bash at the Beach! So long, everybody!!
