[GCW] Monday Night Explosion - 8/21/06

Snabbit888Posted on 04/18/09 at 12:16:16

KURT ANGLE GOES ON THE OFFENSIVE TO START THE SHOW

Before we could even get to the opening credits for Monday Night Explosion, we are back in the parking lot where we see a car driven by ARMANDO ALEJANDRO ESTRADA pulling in.  We can also see UMAGA sitting in the back seat.  Estrada parks the car and gets out to let Umaga out, but before he can, KURT ANGLE runs out of nowhere and nails him with a forearm!  Angle continues to level Estrada with right hands and slams him face first on the hood of the car.  The Samoan Bulldozer is enraged in the car, but he can't figure out how to unlock the door to get out and aid his manager.  Angle finished the assault by hitting Estrada with the Angle Slam on the car, putting the Cuban through the windshield!  Just after, Umaga busted through one of the back windows and managed to get himself out of the car, but Angle was gone by then.  Angle was obviously wanting to take Estrada out of the picture before Summer Sizzler.

After all that was cleared up... welcome to Explosion, live from Jacksonville, Florida!  Tonight, we know that SHAWN MICHAELS is in the house!  Also, we will see two six-man tag team matches, the first pitting Christopher Daniels, CM Punk, & Joey Matthews taking on Edge, Christian, & Rhyno, and MNM & Kenny Dykstra going up against Tommy Dreamer, Lance Cade, & Stevie Richards!  We also know that Brock Lesnar is here and will speak about his title defense against Abyss at Sizzler!

Match #1
Frankie Kazarian vs. Shelton Benjamin

The wrestling for the night started with the red hot Shelton Benjamin in action against Frankie Kazarian.  Benjamin has been mowing through the competition since he put his former partner Charlie Haas on the shelf, but "The Future" had his working shoes on and was looking to slow down this hot streak.  Benjamin very rarely goes up against someone who is as athletic as he is, but Kazarian was with him move for move until Benjamin surprised him with the Paydirt out of nowhere to get a hard fought victory.

Shelton Benjamin pinned Frankie Kazarian with the Paydirt in 0:06:28.
Rating: ****

This was his hardest fought win to date, but win he did.  Benjamin has promised to make a big impact soon, and if he keeps winning matches like this, it will be sooner rather than later.

BROCK LESNAR IS CONFIDENT GOING INTO SUMMER SIZZLER

World Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar was standing by with the lovely Maria who asked him about his upcoming match with Abyss for the championship at Summer Sizzler.  Lesnar says he has held the title for 14 months now and had many big challenges, but maybe not one as big as Abyss.  Maria also mentioned Randy Orton being the special guest referee for the bout.  Lesnar said that the deck might be stacked against him, but he's not worried about Orton, warning him he better not screw him over because his injured knee will seem like nothing compared to what he'd do to him.  Lesnar was interrupted by PAUL BURCHILL, who Lesnar will wrestle later tonight in our main event.  Burchill told Lesnar he shouldn't be worried about Abyss, Orton, or anybody else, but that he should be worried about having to wrestle the Ripper.  Lesnar wasn't in the mood to hear it and let that be known by slapping Burchill hard across the face and walking away.

Match #2
Tommy Dreamer/Lance Cade/Stevie Richards vs. MNM/Kenny Dykstra (w/ Melina)

Kenny Dykstra came out last week and helped MNM against Joey Matthews by waffling him with a chair.  It would be interesting to see how he would coexist with Johnny Nitro & Shannon Moore. They got to do a bit of a trial run going up against Tommy Dreamer, Lance Cade, & Stevie Richards.  The face contingent actually looked really good in this match as well.  Since Richards has gone under the wing of Commissioner Mick Foley, his confidence is way up and thus his wrestling performances have drastically improved.  He and Dreamer go way back as well and they looked good teaming together.  But the youth and bravado of Melina's charges and Dykstra was enough to keep them strong going into England this Sunday.

MNM (Shannon Moore and Johnny Nitro) and Kenny Dykstra defeated Tommy Dreamer, Lance Cade and Stevie Richards when S. Moore pinned Dreamer after a flying forearm in 0:04:23.
Rating: *

Match #3
JTG (w/ Shad Gaspard) vs. Elix Skipper (w/ Sharmell)

Cryme Tyme was out for a match next with JTG wrestling in singles action against "Prime Time" Elix Skipper of Blackout.  JTG will have his first opportunity to bring home some championship gold when he challenges Gregory Helms for the X Title this Sunday, and wanted to get a good win under his belt before then.  Skipper had the always present Sharmell in his corner as well, who provided several distractions during this match, but Shad Gaspard being at ringside (and tripping Skipper up when he hit the ropes) allowed JTG to hit the Running Front Flip Neckbreaker to win the match.

JTG pinned Elix Skipper with the Running Front Flip Neckbreaker in 0:04:48.
Rating: ****

After the match, Gregory Helms appeared at the top of the ramp and held the X Title high above his head.  JTG grabbed the mic and told Helms to enjoy holding the championship while he could, because JTG was looking to take it from him and maybe melt it down into a necklace.  Obviously he's not going to be destroying the X Title, but the statement served its purpose by getting under Helms' skin.

CHRIS BENOIT RUNS HIS MOUTH AND PAYS FOR IT

"The Crippler" Chris Benoit came out for a promo as he prepares for his match against "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels at Summer Sizzler.  Benoit seems very confident going into this match on Sunday, and quite frankly he should as HBK hasn't wrestled since Super Cade II last June when he defeated the late Eddie Guerrero in an unsanctioned streetfight.  Benoit said that HBK is the past and old news and that in London, England, he was going to make absolutely sure that Shawn Michaels would never be seen in GCW again, just like he did with Paul London.  This wasn't the right thing to say at all, as it prompted AJ STYLES to run out of the crowd in street clothes and jump Benoit from behind!  The crowd was going nuts as Styles was unloading on the Rabid Wolverine.  Benoit tried to put some distance between himself and Styles, but Styles was all over him.  Benoit had a contingency plan though as GREGORY HELMS, who we had just seen a bit before, was out and assaulted Styles.  He crowd was chanting "H-B-K" and they got their wish when SHAWN MICHAELS sprinted down to the ring to make the save!  He came in and peppered Helms with right hands, but Helms cut him off with a knee to the midsection.  The X champion whipped HBK into the ropes, but HBK bounced back and hit Helms with a flying forearm, sending him sprawling out of the ring.  Benoit nailed HBK from behind and looked to hit a German suplex, but Styles was back up and cut him off.  Styles sent Benoit into the ropes and he and HBK hit Benoit with a double superkick, knocking Benoit over the top to the floor!  The crowd was in an absolute frenzy as HBK grabbed the microphone and challenged Benoit & Helms to a tag match against he & Styles later tonight, which was accepted!  We are going to see Shawn Michaels wrestling return here on Explosion!

Match #4
Christopher Daniels/CM Punk/Joey Matthews vs. Must See TV (w/ Lita, Mickie James, & Gail Kim)

Daniels, Punk, & Matthews have a tall task ahead of them at Summer Sizzler, and with their recent communication problems, they took on six-man tag team match to try to develop into a cohesive unit.  Well, better luck next time.  Daniels & Punk work well together, but "The Outkast" Joey Matthews has his own agenda and wasn't looking to make friends.  The communication issues proved to be too much to overcome as Must See TV grabs the win here.  After the match, ROB VAN DAM'S music hit up, causing Edge to look around for him, but RVD never showed.  A little mind games from the Whole F'n Show going into this Sunday.

Must See TV (Christian, Edge and Rhyno) defeated Christopher Daniels, CM Punk and Joey Matthews when Edge pinned Punk with the Spear in 0:10:07.
Rating: *** ¾

REY MYSTERIO IS THE ULTIMATE UNDERDOG

Intercontinental champion Rey Mysterio Jr. was backstage with Maria.  Mysterio said he has heard what everyone has said about him being the IC champion and knows the odds are always against him, but what he does is beat the odds and at Summer Sizzler, he will beat the odds once more.  At this point, MONTY BROWN entered the frame, and Mysterio was not pleased to see him.  Mysterio asked why he was there, and the Alpha Male said it was to apologize.  Brown said he was knocked loopy last week when he hit the ring post and didn't know what he was doing.  Mysterio was tentative but seemed to accept this apologize before wishing Brown good luck in his match coming up.

Match #5
Monty Brown vs. Abyss (w/ Paul Heyman)

After smoothing things over with Rey Mysterio, Monty Brown had to contend with the #1 contender and resident madman, Abyss.  Abyss is just scary these days, and with Paul Heyman pulling the strings, it's only going to get worse.  Brown is one of the strongest and most dominant men in GCW, but he was quite frankly dominated in this match.  Brown was favoring his head throughout the match and trying to shake off the cobwebs, signs that he perhaps suffered a concussion last week.  The fight spilled to the outside where Heyman distracted Brown, allowing the Monster to throw Brown into the ringpost and hit the Black Hole Slam on the floor to get a countout victory.

Abyss defeated Monty Brown by countout in 0:11:29.
Rating: * ¾

If Abyss can do this at Summer Sizzler, we could be looking at our next World champion.

Match #6
AJ Styles/Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Benoit/Gregory Helms (X champion)

This was a special night as we got to see the return of Shawn Michaels six days earlier than we expected as he teamed with AJ Styles to take on Chris Benoit & X champion Gregory Helms.  Goading HBK into this match was actually a great idea by Benoit as now he had a chance to scout Michaels before their match.  Unfortunately for the Crippler, however, HBK looked fantastic.  HBK took his lumps, but he and Styles meshed really well.  The finish came when HBK hit the Sweet Chin Music out of nowhere on Benoit when he snuck in the ring, allowing Styles to hit the Styles Clash for the 1-2-3.

AJ Styles and Shawn Michaels defeated Chris Benoit and Gregory Helms when Styles pinned Benoit with the Styles Clash in 0:08:05.
Rating: ** ¾

The fans gave the team of Shawn Michaels & AJ Styles a standing ovation and Styles left HBK in the ring to soak up the cheers.  A happy moment for him now, but when he meets Chris Benoit one-on-one this Sunday, he could be singing a different tune.

Match #7
MAIN EVENT
Non-Title Match
Brock Lesnar (World champion) vs. Paul Burchill

Our main event on the go-home show saw Paul Burchill taking on our World champion Brock Lesnar in a non-title match.  Burchill would love to pick up some momentum going into our first pay-per-view in his home country, but this was the World champion we were talking about.  Burchill kicked it up a notch as everyone does in matches against Lesnar, but it looked like this one was going to go as a win for the Monster From Minnesota.  That is, until PAUL HEYMAN came down and distracted Lesnar by jumping on the apron.  Lesnar got a hold of Heyman and clocked him with a hard right hand, but he turned into a small package and got the biggest win of his career!

Paul Burchill pinned Brock Lesnar after a small package in 0:11:52.
Rating: *** ½

Lesnar didn't have much time to be upset as he was attacked by ABYSS who dropped him with the Black Hole Slam.  Heyman grabbed the World Title and handed it over Abyss.  Abyss held the title high above his head as he stood over the fallen Lesnar.  Could this be the scene we see this Sunday?

is this heaven?
Snabbit888Posted on 04/19/09 at 07:58:32

If it is, boy, what a shitty heaven. :)

I finally got access to my old computer that had the old GCW on it.  So now I will do both, I guess.

Good to see the GCW back, man! This is the fed that inspires me to want to start my own fed!
