7/6/88: HIGH VOLTAGE - BILOXI, MS

1)      President Harley Race kicked off High Voltage with his announcing of the number-one-contender for the World Title.  Race said he had a tough time making his decision as all four men are highly qualified to be the next challenger for Ric Flair.  Race put over Randy Savage, Bam Bam Bigelow, & Ted DiBiase before announcing that HULK HOGAN will wrestle Flair for the World Title at Summer Sizzler on August 28 from the Rosemont Horizon in Chicago, Illinois.  This set off the Macho Man who stormed to the ring with Elizabeth trying to stop him.  Savage grabbed the mic and aggressively got in Race's face, telling him this was a joke and that he deserved the title shot.  Race mentioned Savage losing to Kerry Von Erich last week, which set Savage off all over again.  When Savage finally calmed down, Race told savage he would have a match at Summer Sizzler... against Bam Bam Bigelow!  The Macho Man had to be physically restrained from going after Harley Race.

2)      Non-Title Match - Ric Flair defeated Pez Whatley with the Figure-Four Leglock in 8:23. Now that Ric Flair knows who he has to wrestle at Summer Sizzler, he wrestled in what essentially was a glorified sparring session with Pez Whatley.  Whatley got some token offense in, but this match was always clearly in the Nature Boy's control, who took the win with the Figure-Four Leglock. ***

3)      Koko B. Ware & Terry Funk beat Ted DiBiase & Virgil when Koko pinned Virgil with the Ghostbuster in 5:35. Terry Funk saved Koko B. Ware from a beatdown from Ted DiBiase & Virgil last week, leading to this tag contest.  Virgil is great as a bodyguard, and he has proven himself useful in aiding DiBiase in singles matches, but he has yet to get it done in the ring.  That trend continued as Virgil ate the pin when Koko nailed him with the Ghostbuster.  Virgil fought well, but DiBiase left him out to dry to wrestle most of the match himself.  Koko & Funk shook hands after the match, celebrating a job well done. *** ½

4)      Intercontinental champion Rick Rude and his manager Bobby Heenan came out and got on the microphone.  Rude said that he heard what The Ultimate Warrior had to say and he wasn't at all intimidated, citing again how he's the greatest wrestler in the world today.  Rude said Warrior mentioned wanting a shot at him, but he would show Warrior how bad of an idea that was by offering up an open challenge to anyone in the back who wanted a shot at the Intercontinental Title.  KERRY VON ERICH would come out to answer the challenge.  Heenan would try to back Rude out of it, but the Texas Tornado blasted Rude with a right hand.  Joey Marella ran down to the ring and called for the bell, and we had a title match!

5)      Intercontinental Title Match - Rick Rude (w/ Bobby Heenan) pinned Kerry Von Erich after the Rude Awakening in 11:02 to retain the title. Rude had wanted a match to send a message to The Ultimate Warrior, but it almost bit him in the backside when Kerry Von Erich answered the challenge.  Rude got in his licks early and thought he was going to cruise to another successful title defense, but Von Erich worked and worked and got into Rude's head.  The crowd was on its feet for the majority of this match as Von Erich got nearfall after nearfall.  The Texas Tornado was sure that he had won the title when he nailed the Tornado Punch and got the 3 count, but Joey Marella quickly noticed that Rude had gotten his foot on the rope just in time.  The crowd was livid and so was Von Erich who failed to go back to work.  Von Erich wasted too much time and Rude caught him with a quick knee to the gut and then hit the Rude Awakening for the 1-2-3.  Rude and Heenan quickly escaped with the title in tow.  The Texas Tornado received a standing ovation for his efforts. *** ¾

6)      Strike Force defeated Barry Horowitz & Brooklyn Brawler when Santana pinned Brawler with the El Paseo del Muerte in 3:13. Rick Martel & Tito Santana made it 3-0 with their victory tonight over Barry Horowitz & Brooklyn Brawler, Santana pinning the Brawler after the 3 minute mark.  The celebration was cut short when THE BRAINBUSTERS got in the ring and demanded that they be the next team to get a tag team title shot against the British Bulldogs.  Strike Force took exception to the fact that Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard were making this challenge during their time and they thought they should get the next title shot instead.  The members of the Horsemen said if Strike Force had a problem with it, they should do something about it.  Martel & Santana were ready to fight, but thought better of it and started to leave the ring when the Brainbusters jumped them, hitting both men with the Spike Piledriver before leaving the ring. ** ¾

7)      Referee Danny Davis came into Harley Race's office and told him that he wanted Terry Funk to be suspended for his "brutal and unprovoked" assault on him.  Race said that there would be a suspension, but it would be Davis suspended and not Funk!  Davis wanted to know why, and Race told him it was for his blatant biased officiating over the past few months, especially in matches involving Terry Funk.  Davis said that Race would be hearing from his lawyer.

8)      The Ultimate Warrior pinned Reno Riggins with the Big Splash in 1:38. The Ultimate Warrior is primed to take on Rick Rude and he kept up his winning ways by squashing Reno Riggins with the Big Splash.  Heenan and Rude may have bit off a little more than they can chew with the Warrior. * 1/4

9)      Sid Vicious came out for an impromptu interview before the main event, snatching the microphone away from ring announcer Howard Finkel.  Sid said he heard Dusty's whining and crying last week about his poor son and how he may not ever return.  Sid said that was unacceptable, and the only way that Dusty Rhodes would get to leave was on Sid's terms, and that would be via a stretcher.  Sid finished by saying that he was making t his personal mission to hurt anybody and everybody who gets in his way until the American Dream agreed to face him in a match.

10)      Two-out-of-Three Falls Match - The Hart Foundation (w/ Jimmy Hart) defeated The Road Warriors 2 falls to 1.  Hawk pinned Neidhart after the Flying Clothesline in 12:23.  Hart pinned Animal after a crossbody block reversal in 19:20.  Hart pinned Animal after the Hart Attack in 28:33. This was the final match to settle the dispute between these two teams, and Harley Race made it best two-out-of-three falls to ensure there was no fluke.  There was a contrast of styles in this match for sure, but both teams clicked and the crowd was big time into all of the action.  Hawk & Animal would take the important first fall when Jim Neidhart went for a superplex on Hawk, but Hawk pushed the Anvil off and followed with the Flying Clothesline, nearly taking Neidhart's head off and getting the 1-2-3.  The Hart Foundation had to wrestle extra careful being down one fall, and the Road Warriors knew that and turned up the heat.  They got a bit too aggressive around the 19 minute mark though when Bret Hart was on the apron to catch his breath, but Animal grabbed him and tried to suplex him back in the ring.  Neidhart would grab Animal's leg and trip him up while the Hitman turned into a crossbody block.  Neidhart held Animal's leg down for extra leverage and the score was tied up at 1.  Both teams hunkered down for the final fall and really brought the intensity for the final 10 minutes, getting several nearfalls each.  It looked as if the Road Warriors would be the team to get the duke though when they had Bret Hart up for the Doomsday Device when Jimmy Hart grabbed the attention of Earl Hebner.  During the distraction, DEMOLITION ran down and Smash shoved Hawk off the turnbuckle and to the floor!  Ax & Smash laid the boots to Hawk while Neidhart chop blocked Animal in the ring.  The Harts quickly capitalized with the Hart Attack and the Hart Foundation were declared the winners. *** ¾

7/13/88: HIGH VOLTAGE - LITTLE ROCK, AR

1)      Sid Vicious pinned Scott Casey with the Power Bomb in 1:35. Our show kicked off with Sid Vicious of the Horsemen in action taking on poor Scott Casey.  Last week Sid vowed to hurt anyone and everyone he could until Dusty Rhodes returned to fight him, and he proved this week that he meant exactly what he said.  Sid had little trouble finishing off Casey, as one would expect, planting him with the Power Bomb.  After the match, he hit a second Power Bomb which led to the medical staff putting Casey on a stretcher to help in the back.  Sid showed just how sick he was by scaring away the medical staff and running the stretcher into the ringpost - with Casey still on it!  Sid finally went to the back, yelling for Dusty Rhodes to show his face. * ¾

2)      DEMOLITION & Mr. Fuji did an interview with "Mean" Gene Okerlund who asked them about why they cost the Road Warriors their match against the Hart Foundation in our main event a week ago.  Ax said they didn't have to explain their actions to Okerlund or to anyone else.  Smash said they do whatever they feel like doing because they are the most dominant team in the UWF.  Ax continued by saying that they came within an eyelash of taking the World Tag Team Titles from the British Bulldogs and if they get one more shot, they guarantee they'll be the new champs.  THE ROAD WARRIORS ran in at this juncture and attacked Ax & Smash, leading to a pull-apart brawl.

3)      The Colossal Connection (w/ Bobby Heenan) defeated The Conquistadors when Andre pinned #1 after the Elbowdrop in 2:46. Speaking of tag teams who want title shots, the Colossal Connection were in action tonight and picked up a quality victory over the Conquistadors.  These two are proving to be a devastating unit, using Andre's great size and Haku's savage nature to their advantage.  In the end, Haku nailed his deadly Savate Kick on #1 which was followed up by Andre's big Elbowdrop to make this one official. 1/4*

4)      Bam Bam Bigelow defeated Greg Valentine (w/ Jimmy Hart) after the Flying Headbutt in 6:05. We had a volatile situation on our hands with this match as RANDY SAVAGE came down to do commentary alongside Gorilla Monsoon & Jesse Ventura.  Savage's presence was an obvious distraction for Bigelow, but thankfully Savage stayed put at the announce position.  The Macho Man said he let Bigelow drag him down for months and what he did was "just business."  He blamed Bigelow for costing him his rightful spot as the top contender for the World Title.  Meanwhile in the ring, Bigelow had trouble focusing on the Hammer and took a beating because of it.  However his raw power and strength got him through and he would put Valentine away with the Flying Headbutt.  After the match, the Beast From the East invited Savage into the ring, who declined. * ¾

5)      The Brainbusters defeated Pez Whatley & The Italian Stallion when Blanchard made Whatley submit to a Boston crab in 3:11. As the ring introductions were taking place, we had an insert promo from Strike Force.  Rick Martel & Tito Santana said that the attack on them last week was completely unnecessary, and they were working on getting a match signed against Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard signed ASAP.  The Brainbusters can be downright malicious when they want to be, and this match was a perfect demonstration of that.  Something must be under Arn Anderson's & Tully Blanchard's skin, because they took it out on poor Whatley & Stallion.  They would hit Whatley with the Spike Piledriver, but Blanchard deemed that not enough punishment as he locked on a Boston crab for the submission victory. ** ¾

6)      At this point we cut to the locker room area where there was a commotion of some sort.  When the cameraman got into position, we saw that it was DANNY DAVIS in a neck brace trying desperately to get into the building but being held back by security.  Even Harley Race was there to keep Davis out of the building.  Finally after the ruckus, Davis was thrown out.  When Race turned to go back to his office, he bumped into THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR.  Warrior didn't say much, only yelling, "RICK RUDE... I WANT HIM... NOW!"  Race obliged and said the match has been signed for Summer Sizzler, and it will be for the Intercontinental Title.

7)      Kerry Von Erich pinned Barry Horowitz after the Tornado Punch in 5:50. Though he's yet to win a match, Barry Horowitz is always entertaining in the ring.  Watching him think he has a victory well in hand, pat himself on the back, and then blow it is a thing of beauty.  That happened again this week as The Texas Tornado continued with the roll he's been on by jacking Horowitz with the Tornado Punch and putting this one in the books. ** 1/4

8)      One Man Gang (w/ Jimmy Hart) and Lex Luger battled to a double countout in 8:51. Lex Luger got his one more shot at One Man Gang, and it still didn't work out the way he wanted it to.  As has been the norm in their previous matches, OMG dominated much of the action, with the plucky Luger fighting back as best he could.  Luger would catch a huge break when Gang charged him in the corner, but Luger moved and OMG smashed his skull on the ring post.  Luger summoned all of his strength and bodyslammed the huge Gang to a huge pop from the crowd.  Luger even went as far as getting OMG up in the Torture Rack, but Gang's momentum sent them both crashing to the outside, where they would be counted out.  The crowd booed the finish, and the boos became louder when THE HART FOUNDATION ran in and pounded on Luger.  OMG got back to his feet and we had a 3-on-1 assault until THE BRITISH BULLDOGS made the save.  The Bulldogs helped a rejuvenated Luger clear the ring and the faces all stood tall as we went to commercial. 1/4*

9)      When we returned from commercial, we had the big contract signing between Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan, who will wrestle for the World Title at Summer Sizzler.  There was a lot of tension in the air as Harley Race explained the rules to both men.  This is a match that the wrestling world has wanted to see for quite some time, and when both men signed on the dotted line, it was official!  Flair, being the opportunistic that he is, shoved the table into Hogan's stomach and attacked him, wanting to get in the first blows before Sizzler.  Hogan fought back though, hitting Flair with the big boot.  Before he could hit the Big Leg Drop, THE BRAINBUSTERS were out to help their stablemate and we had a 3-on-1 assault.  STRIKE FORCE came down to even the odds for Hogan, but the tides were turned once again when SID VICIOUS hit the ring, and he had a chair with him!  Sid walloped both members of Strike Force with the chair and they were dumped from the ring, leaving Hogan to fend off four top-tier wrestlers.  He did his best, but it wouldn't be enough as he succumbed to the beating.  It would end with Sid hoisting Hogan up and Power Bombing him right on top of the heavy wood table!  Officials rushed down and got the Horsemen out of the ring, but Hogan was in serious pain as we went off the air.  We hope to have an update on Hogan's condition next week.

7/20/88: HIGH VOLTAGE - HOUSTON, TX

1)      President Harley Race was in the ring to kick off the show, and he wasted no time in calling World champion RIC FLAIR to the ring.  Flair did come out in an expensive suit, and he had Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard with him.  Flair was as arrogant as ever when Race talked about the assault on Hulk Hogan last week and the injury he suffered.  Race informed everyone that Hogan had a major back injury but was hoping to still compete at Summer Sizzler.  The Nature Boy said that if the Hulkster knew what was good for him, he'd just retire now before Flair finished what he started.  Race didn't appreciate Flair's attitude, and told him because of what he did last week, next week he'd be defending the World Title in San Antonio against KERRY VON ERICH.  Flair was livid, and Anderson grabbed the mic from Race and said this was bogus.  Race said Anderson should stop talking and go get ready, because the Brainbusters would meet Strike Force in our main event!

2)      Randy Savage (w/ Elizabeth) pinned SD Jones with the Flying Elbowdrop in 2:24.  There was a lot of commotion at the start of our first match as first of all, BAM BAM BIGELOW was on commentary with Gorilla Monsoon & Jesse Ventura, just as Savage was last week.  There was also some stirring in the audience and we saw that it was TED DIBIASE and VIRGIL.  DiBiase had a lot of cash out which he used to buy out an entire section of the first row to watch the matches (and flaunt how much cash he has).  As expected, the Macho Man didn't have much trouble with SD Jones, putting him away with the Flying Elbowdrop.  Bigelow said he wanted to jump in the ring and attack Savage, but patience was a virtue and he couldn't wait until Summer Sizzler when he could shut Savage up once and for all. *

3)      Demolition (w/ Mr. Fuji) defeated Koko B. Ware & Terry Funk when Ax pinned Koko after the Demolition Decapitation in 8:10. During the ring introductions, we had an insert promo from Koko B. Ware & Terry Funk.  They said they had so much fun teaming up a couple weeks ago that they decided to do it again.  They may have shot a little high though as they took on Demolition.  Despite not having the tag experience, Koko & Funk did pretty well for themselves.  It looked like they may have even had a chance to win the match, but yet another crowd commotion (it's a theme tonight)  and we saw it was suspended DANNY DAVIS trying to get into the ring through the crowd.  Security held him up, but this was distracting enough for Funk to jump off the apron and go after him.  Koko was distracted in the ring too, and took a knee to the back from Smash, which set up the Demolition Decapitation and the 3 count. ** ¾

4)      Another of the UWF's great tag teams, THE COLOSSAL CONNECTION, along with Bobby Heenan, were in the back with "Mean" Gene Okerlund.  The gist of the interview is that the Intercontinental Title was already in the Heenan Family, and they wanted some competition for Haku & Andre the Giant so they could add more gold.

5)      Sid Vicious defeated Sam Houston with the Power Bomb in 54 seconds. Sid's reign of terror continued this week with the poor victim being Sam Houston in his first UWF match (and possibly his last).  Houston got two punches in before Sid devastated him, finishing him off with the Power Bomb.  As he did last week, Sid wasn't satisfied with just winning, Power Bombing Houston a second time and then throwing him in a swinging position into the guardrail.  Houston had to be stretchered out as Sid yelled, "This is on your hands, Dusty!" *

6)      Kerry Von Erich pinned Greg Valentine (w/ Jimmy Hart) after the Tornado Punch in 4:37. The Texas Tornado's hard work has paid off as he will get a shot at the World Title a week from now, and he wanted to go in with momentum by beating Greg Valentine.  Valentine could position himself for a title shot if he could defeat Von Erich, but unfortunately for him, nobody was going to stop Von Erich, who took the pin after knocking the Hammer loopy with the Tornado Punch.  After the match, TED DIBIASE stood up and called over Von Erich and whispered something into the Tornado's ear.  Von Erich just looked at him and walked off with DiBiase being overheard saying, "Think about it." * ¾

7)      Intercontinental champion RICK RUDE had a bench press table set up near the entrance way and a microphone in hand.  He ranted about how he was being forced to defend his coveted title against a man who is completely unworthy, The Ultimate Warrior.  Rude said he wanted to prove to everyone how much better he is, not just as a wrestler but in anything.  He then called out the Warrior himself, who came out to a huge ovation.  Warrior looked primed to fight, but Rude said he wasn't there to fight, but wanted to challenge him to a bench press competition.  Whoever could do the most reps in 30 seconds would be declared the winner.  Warrior, at the urging of the crowd, agreed to the competition.  Rude went first, and in the 30 seconds, did an impressive 15 reps at 220 pounds apiece.  It was the Warrior's turn, and he was doing reps at a blistering pace, getting to the 15 rep mark with seconds to spare.  Before he could get that 16th rep, Rude nailed him in the stomach and choked him with the bar, which had 220 pounds on it!  The vicious assault was broken up by officials, and it was feared that Warrior suffered a larynx injury.  We later found out he was only shaken up and will be fine, but this was a dastardly attack.

8)      Dynamite Kid (w/ Davey Boy Smith & Lex Luger) defeated Bret Hart (w/ Jimmy Hart, Jim Neidhart, One Man Gang, & Greg Valentine) after the Flying Headbutt in 7:38. Highlights of the finish of the Lex Luger/One Man Gang match from last week were shown, which resulted in this match between World Tag Team champion Dynamite Kid & Bret Hart being signed.  Both men had reinforcements at ringside with them.  Before the match even got started, Jimmy Hart sent Greg Valentine to the back, being overheard saying that the Hammer didn't deserve to be at ringside with the rest of the Hart Family.  The match itself was a good one from two of our top young stars, and was a great pure wrestling match.  The presence of everyone at ringside canceled out any potential interference and instead we just got a great match - a match won by Dynamite after hitting his signature flying headbutt. ***

9)      Strike Force & The Brainbusters wrestled to a no-contest in 19:33. We expected our main event to be a fantastic match, and we were not disappointed.  We also expected a score to be settled between Strike Force & The Brainbusters, but that we did not get.  The fans were into the match the entire way, but as it went on, it became more heated and more tense.  Eventually, referee Teddy Long lost all control of the action, all four men in the ring beating each other senseless.  Long threw the match out and declared it a no-contest. ** ¾
Snabbit888Posted on 11/14/08 at 13:39:01

Contracted performers Pat Tanaka & Paul Diamond have quit effective immediately.

Tanaka & Diamond were signed back in May, but were being held off of television until an opening came up for them.  Rumors say that they were to be involved in a program with Demolition & Mr. Fuji, but now, obviously, that will not materialize.  Tanaka & Diamond grew impatient and were not confident that head booker Mark Niemiller wouldn't utilize them properly, so they went looking for work elsewhere.
Larry MondelloPosted on 11/15/08 at 03:10:37

A tag team of Terry Funk and Koko B. Ware... I never thought I'd see that.

Interesting scenario with DiBiase obviously trying to bribe Kerry Von Erich in some way.  He and DiBiase could make an interesting team.  Before that happened I figured Flair would be steamrolling over him on the path to Hogan, but who knows now.

Always cool to see Demolition and Sid dominant.  Good card.
Snabbit888Posted on 11/15/08 at 11:29:37

7/27/88: HIGH VOLTAGE - SAN ANTONIO, TX

1)      The Colossal Connection (w/ Bobby Heenan) defeated The Road Warriors by countout in 6:22. The Colossal Connection said they wanted competition, and they sure got it this week in the form of the Road Warriors.  This match wasn't pretty by any means, but it sure was brutal.  These four simply slugged it out for over 5 minutes before MR. FUJI showed up from the back and distracted Hawk & Animal.  Hawk & Animal both ran out and went after Fuji only to be jumped by AX & SMASH!  Unfortunately the Road Warriors were counted out while they were brawling with Demolition.  Knowing Bobby Heenan, I'm sure he won't complain about taking home the winner's share of the purse no matter how it comes. 1/4*

2)      We cut to the back to see Kerry Von Erich approached by Ted DiBiase & Virgil.  The Million Dollar Man asked the Texas Tornado if he thought about his offer from last week.  Von Erich said he did think about it but decided to turn it out.  DiBiase asked if Von Erich was crazy, saying, "Only an idiot would turn down $5,000 to give up his title shot."  Von Erich said being a World champion was more important than money.  DiBiase told Von Erich he was making the mistake of his life and that he'd be sorry.

3)      The Ultimate Warrior defeated Greg Valentine after the Big Splash in 5:13. It has not been a good few weeks for Greg Valentine, and last week was the kicker when Jimmy Hart sent him to the back, not even wanting him at ringside with the rest of the Hart Family.  The Hammer was sent out here for this match alone in an attempt to redeem himself, but unfortunately he had to go up against The Ultimate Warrior.  Valentine gave a spirited effort, but it wasn't a matter of if Warrior would put him away, but when.  It happened at just after the 5 minute mark when Warrior caught him with the Gorilla Press and the Big Splash to get the 1-2-3. * ½

4)      Greg Valentine was dejected after losing yet another match, and it didn't help matters that JIMMY HART came out and ran him down on the microphone, calling him a failure and a loser in front of everybody.  Valentine finally had enough and grabbed Hart by the shirt, yelling, "Nobody calls me a loser, especially not YOU!"  The crowd cheered Valentine on to nail Hart, but he was stopped when he was jumped from behind by a very large man dressed in a cop uniform.  This mystery assailant nailed Valentine in the back with a nightstick, and caught him with another shot to the throat before whipping the Hammer into the ropes and dropping him with a swinging sidewalk slam.  We learned later that this man is the Big Boss Man and is Jimmy Hart's newest client.  Greg Valentine is apparently out of the Hart Family.

5)      The Brainbusters defeated Barry Horowitz/Brooklyn Brawler with the Spike Piledriver on Brawler in 3:29. The Brainbusters have some unfinished business with Strike Force, but tonight they had to contend with Barry Horowitz & Brooklyn Brawler.  Unfortunately for Horowitz & Brawler, they are just not on the same level as Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard, who put this one away in short order. ** 1/4

6)      "Mean" Gene Okerlund caught another one of the Horsemen, Sid Vicious, in the backstage area.  Okerlund asked Sid why he was tormenting Dusty Rhodes and stretchering people out every week.  Sid just smiled and said, "Because I can."  Okerlund tried to follow-up, but Sid warned him that he could be the next message sent to Dusty if he wasn't careful.

7)      One Man Gang (w/ Jimmy Hart, Bret Hart, Jim Neidhart, & Big Boss Man) defeated Davey Boy Smith (w/ Dynamite Kid & Lex Luger) after a powerslam in 7:46. If the Hart Family wasn't dominant enough with One Man Gang, they could be downright unstoppable with the addition of Big Boss Man, who took out former Hart Family member Greg Valentine earlier tonight.  He, along with the Hart Foundation, accompanied One Man Gang to the ring for his match against World Tag Team champion Davey Boy Smith (who had Dynamite Kid & Lex Luger in his corner).  Davey Boy is a great competitor, but in a singles match like this, OMG had the clear advantage.  Couple that with the forces on the outside distracting Smith when he went up top for a flying crossbody press, causing him to hesitate.  By the time he jumped, OMG recovered enough to smash him with a powerslam and take the win. *** 1/4

8)      Koko B. Ware pinned Randy Savage (w/ Elizabeth) with a Victory roll in 7:16. Randy Savage is a high strung guy to begin with, but with the way that Bam Bam Bigelow seems to be able to get under his skin, he's been at an even more heightened state of intensity.  This week the Macho Man wrestled Koko B. Ware, and despite Koko's obvious talents, when Savage is at his best, there are few better.  Savage was looking to put Koko away after toying with him for a bit, and had him up on his shoulders for an electric chair drop.  Savage then saw BIGELOW, who was out and was talking to Elizabeth!  Savage was livid and yelled that he was going to kill Bigelow.  He stopped paying attention and Koko reversed into a Victory roll and got a flash 3 count!  Koko had pinned Savage, and the Macho Man went absolutely nuts in the ring as Bigelow went to the back laughing at his former tag team partner. ***

9)      Before our main event, which was to be refereed by Teddy Long, he was stopped by TED DIBIASE.  Long asked what it was about as he had to get to the ring for the World Title match.  DiBiase told Long it would only take a second as we cut to commercial.

10)      World Heavyweight Title Match w/ Special Referee Ted DiBiase - Ric Flair defeated Kerry Von Erich with the Figure-Four Leglock in 9:30. When we got back from commercial, we found out what DiBiase's meeting with Teddy Long was about - he apparently had purchased Long's referee shirt (we later found out for a sum of $1000)!  This did not bode well for Kerry Von Erich, who had rejected DiBiase's earlier offer to sell his World championship opportunity.  Flair was all smiles, especially when as the match got going, DiBiase was CLEARLY favoring the reigning World champion.  Every time the Texas Tornado would get the Nature Boy in a pinning predicament, the Million Dollar Ref would 'get something in his eye' or 'tweak his shoulder,' but he would miraculously heal when Flair did the same.  Von Erich fought through it as best as he could, but the odds were too great.  He looked to have the win when he hit the Tornado Punch, but DiBiase refused to make the count.  Von Erich got up and shoved DiBiase, which DiBiase didn't take kindly to.  He pulled a pair of brass knuckles and walloped the Tornado with them, knocking him unconscious.  Flair then locked on the Figure-Four Leglock for good measure, and DiBiase called for the bell.  Ric Flair is still the World champion. *** 1/4
Larry MondelloPosted on 11/20/08 at 20:54:23

Another awesome card.  Was kind of hoping Kerry Von Erich would take DiBiase's money though.  I could see him making an interesting team with the Million Dollar Man.

I'm anticipating a big feud between Demolition and the Road Warriors.  WWF botched that big time in 1990.  I'm sure you could do it better.
Snabbit888Posted on 11/20/08 at 21:52:14

Unfortunately, I won't get that opportunity (you'll see why in the next few cards).

7/30/88: SUPERSHOW - DALLAS, TX

1)      Strike Force defeated The Hart Foundation (w/ Jimmy Hart) after Santana pinned Neidhart with the El Paseo del Muerte in 8:30. These big non-televised supershows happen periodically, and they are always packed with great wrestling.  Tonight's show had a ton of it, starting with tag team action between Strike Force and Jimmy Hart's Hart Foundation.  This match set the tone for the rest of the night and both teams were firing on all cylinders.  The only complaint with this match is that it didn't go longer, reaching its conclusion at the 8:30 mark when Santana hit El Paseo del Muerte on the Anvil to keep their winning ways going. *** ¾

2)      Big Boss Man (w/ Jimmy Hart) defeated Greg Valentine with a splash in 5:22. The Big Boss Man made his debut last Wednesday by jumping Greg Valentine and thus booting him out of the Hart Family.  Valentine wanted to extract some revenge, but unfortunately for him, Boss Man is a frickin' beast.  Valentine pulled everything he could out of his bag of tricks but he couldn't find anything to slow Boss Man down for long.  Boss Man would avalanche the Hammer in the corner and finish him off with a huge splash to make his wrestling debut a successful one. ¾*

3)      Intercontinental Title Match - The Ultimate Warrior defeated Rick Rude (w/ Bobby Heenan) by countout in 8:15.  Rude retains the title. These two will meet for the Intercontinental Title at Summer Sizzler, but Warrior had a chance to go into that pay-per-view as champion instead of challenger if he could beat Rick Rude here in Dallas.  Well, he would beat Rude, but unfortunately for him, he wouldn't take the championship as Rude headed for higher ground and got himself counted out.  He keeps his title, but Ravishing Rick is going home with the loser's share of the money tonight. * ½

4)      Sid Vicious pinned Terry Funk with the Power Bomb in 11:35. Finally someone took the fight straight to Sid, and it was Terry Funk.  Sid came out wearing a Dusty Rhodes t-shirt in a huge sign of disrespect to the wrestling legend.  Funk is from the old school as well and tried to take a piece out of Sid, taking it to him like no one had before.  Sid showed that although his offense is dominating, his defense still leaves a lot to be desired.  Sid would weather the storm when Funk couldn't quite hit a Piledriver.  Sid would finish Funk off with the Power Bomb in his hardest fought win to date. ***

5)      Lex Luger defeated One Man Gang (w/ Jimmy Hart) with a forearm smash in 9:42. Based on all of the chaos that's been going on recently, President Harley Race decreed that anyone who didn't have an official manager's license would not be allowed at ringside.  This served to make this a much cleaner affair as Luger looked to finally get the better of OMG, and that's just what he did, albeit under dubious circumstances.  OMG punished the Total Package for much of this match, but a big miscue from Jimmy Hart would lead to the demise of his charge.  When referee Joey Marella got bumped and was out of commission, Hart tried to throw the megaphone to OMG, but miscalculated and Luger got it and blasted the Gang between the eyes.  Luger removed the evidence and smashed Gang with a big forearm smash to get the 3 count from the groggy Marella. ½*

6)      Randy Savage (w/ Elizabeth) defeated Bam Bam Bigelow after a small package in 10:05. You'd be hard-pressed to find a feud more intense than the Savage/Bigelow feud, and this was the first time these two locked it up in the ring.  Dallas was treated to a great match filled with a lot of passion and surely a sign of things to come in this feud.  Elizabeth looked torn in this match as she is in Savage's corner, but is still on friendly terms with Bigelow.  Savage showed he as not at all against using this to his advantage, putting Elizabeth in harm's way several times in order to get an advantage on the Beast.  The first battle in this war would go to the Macho Man as he caught Bigelow in a small package and hooked the tights to steal the
victory. *** ½

7)      World Tag Team Title Match - The British Bulldogs defeated The Brainbusters when Smith pinned Anderson with the Running Powerslam in 18:30 to retain the titles. This is the first time that the Bulldogs and the Brainbusters have met, and after watching this match, I hope they wrestle again.  This was match of the night for sure, and a testament to what tag team wrestling is all about.  If you want to watch a wrestling clinic, find yourself a tape of this match.  In the end of this great contest, Davey Boy would hit the Running Powerslam on Arn Anderson to narrowly retain the titles in a fantastic match. ****

8)      World Heavyweight Title Match w/ Special Referee Ted DiBiase - Ric Flair made Kerry Von Erich submit to the Figure-Four Leglock in 19:19 to retain the title. Just like on High Voltage this week, Kerry Von Erich challenged Ric Flair for the World Title.  And once again, Ted DiBiase served as special guest referee.  But before the match started, Harley Race came out and announced that if DiBiase tried to pull a stunt like he did on High Voltage, he would be suspended!  DiBiase was not happy, but he also is a man who doesn't want to lose his money, so surprisingly, the Million Dollar Man called this right now the middle.  The Texas Tornado had the crowd firmly behind him as his hometown fans wanted to see him end the night as a World champion.  Von Erich came close several times, including an extended sequence when he had the Nature Boy in the famous Von Erich Claw, but Flair narrowly escaped.  Eventually, Von Erich's luck would run out and he would fall to the Figure-Four Leglock. ** ½

Awesome Super Show. Some quick thoughts:

Judging by the main event, Kerry Von Erich wasn't as good as a broomstick, because you know, Flair could carry a broomstick to a *** match. Still a fun little story for this match. Race blocking DiBiase from pulling anything was nice.

OMG/Luger...might not have many dropkicks and headscissors but it would sure have a lot of heat for this time period.

Both the tag team matches were some awesome encounters. Bulldogs/Brainbusters especially, that's what tag team wrestling should be.

Yay! Warrior won and so did Savage! Excellent stuff, Bam Bam/Savage looked to be an epic encounter.

Anything I missed, it was good as well. Like I said an awesome show, keep up the good work!
