6/1/88: HIGH VOLTAGE - MOBILE, AL

1)      Intercontinental Title Match - Rick Rude (w/ Bobby Heenan) defeated Rick Martel with the Rude Awakening in 11:37. This match was a tremendous way to kick off the show tonight as it was highly competitive.  This was a dangerous match for Ravishing Rick to take this close to King of the Ring when he'll be defending against Terry Funk, but the ever-arrogant Rude didn't seem to take that into account.  It almost cost him as Martel would get several nearfalls and even locked in the Boston Crab, but Rude was too close to the ropes.  Rude would go on to hit the Rude Awakening and escape with the Intercontinental Title around his waist. ****

2)      HAWK & ANIMAL, The Road Warriors were backstage for an interview, and they said they would be watching the tag title match at King of the Ring very closely as they want to be considered for the next contenders for the gold.  They were interrupted by THE HART FOUNDATION, who told Hawk & Animal that they were getting the next title shots, and there was nothing they could do about it.  Hawk responded with, "Oh yeah?" and punched Bret and the brawl was on!  Officials finally got this one under control.  Harley Race has made a quick decision to settle this one next week as these two teams will meet in a match in Sarasota, Florida!

3)      Ted DiBiase (w/ Virgil) defeated Pez Whatley with the Million Dollar Dream in 6:29. After the beating he took from the Road Warriors last week, the Million Dollar Man was wanting to get back on the winning track, and he did so over Pez Whatley.  The fans really love the lovable loser Pistol Pez, and he gave DiBiase a far harder time than he had any right to.  DiBiase is not in the right mindset and if he doesn't get this together soon, his stay in the King of the Ring could be short lived. **** 1/4

4)      Kerry Von Erich defeated Bret Hart (w/ Jimmy Hart) with the Tornado Punch in 7:45. Kerry Von Erich made his debut last week, but he was robbed of the chance to get a clean pinfall win over Jim Neidhart when Bret Hart jumped in and attack him.  Von Erich would take on Bret himself, and would get that clean win but it wasn't easy.  Bret is a great technician and he wore Von Erich down, but the Texas Tornado's Tornado Punch can come out of nowhere just like it did tonight, knocking Bret out and giving him the win. *** ¾

5)      The Horsemen were backstage with "Mean" Gene Okerlund, and they were there to give the "official" injury report on Dusty Rhodes after the heinous attack they gave him after he defeated Arn Anderson in last week's main event.  Ric Flair let us all know that "officially" the American Dream suffered severe injuries to his knee and will not make it to King of the Ring.  They also said that they did some research and they know who the mystery partner is.  How they figured this out (if they even really did) we don't know, but they promised to unveil the partner next week.

6)      With Randy Savage on commentary - Bam Bam Bigelow pinned Barry Horowitz with a moonsault in 1:22. The Macho Man joined us on commentary for the next match and assured everyone that he and Bigelow are still great friends and that any dissention has been way overblown.  One couldn't help but notice that the Beast From the East was extra aggressive in his drubbing of Barry Horowitz, pinning him with the biggest moonsault I have ever seen.  After the match, Savage & Bigelow shared a handshake before leaving together. *** 1/4

7)      Demolition (w/ Mr. Fuji) defeated Brooklyn Brawler & "Iron" Mike Sharpe when Smash pinned Sharpe with the Backbreaker in 2:39. A squash of the finest proportions.  Demolition look primed and ready to be the team that takes the World Tag Team Titles off of the British Bulldogs. *

8)      We had an interview with someone we haven't seen much of in the past few weeks and that is TERRY FUNK, the number-one-contender for the Intercontinental Title.  Funk looked a little worse for wear and was asked about the injuries he is currently suffering from thanks to Andre the Giant.  Funk said at his age and as long as he's been wrestling, he's always going to be injured.  He is one of the toughest men in the world though, and he's not worried about any injuries.  He's worried about the injuries he's going to inflict on Rick Rude.  He also said that if Danny Davis ends up being assigned as the referee, he better do the right thing and call it right down the middle, or he will be very sorry.

9)      One Man Gang & Greg Valentine (w/ Jimmy Hart) defeated Hulk Hogan & Lex Luger when Gang pinned Luger with the 747 Splash in 10:16. Big time main event as Hulk Hogan & Lex Luger teamed up to take on One Man Gang & Greg Valentine of the Hart Family.  This was Luger's chance to get his hands on One Man Gang before the pay-per-view, and it was not the way he wanted it to go.  He and Hogan did quite well against the Hart Family representatives and showed great tag team work.  But the match fell apart late when Hogan and his opponent at King of the Ring Greg Valentine fell to the floor and began brawling.  The referee was distracted which let Jimmy Hart jump in the ring to attempt to hit Luger with the megaphone.  Luger saw him coming though and caught him in the act, but turned his back to OMG in the process.  The Gang smashed Luger into the turnbuckles with an avalanche and then finished him off with the 747 Splash to get a tainted win in our main event. ** 1/4

6/8/88: HIGH VOLTAGE - SARASOTA, FL

1)      The Road Warriors defeated The Hart Foundation (w/ Jimmy Hart) when animal pinned Neidhart with a power bomb in 3:08. Highlights of the confrontation between these two teams from last week were shown as this one got under way.  This match was good while it lasted as both teams wrestled an intense style.  The problem for the Harts was that nobody does that style better than Hawk & Animal.  The match would come to an abrupt halt when Animal caught Neidhart with a huge power bomb that was just enough to keep his shoulders down for the three count.  The fight didn't stop here though as they continued to brawl after the match, having to be broken up by officials. ***

2)      Intercontinental champion RICK RUDE was asked if he was worried about Terry Funk's threats to injure him at King of the Ring.  Rude said that he was a superior athlete and is the greatest wrestler in the UWF.  The last thing he was worried about was a dumb redneck like Funk hurting him.  He said just to be sure though, he had an ace in the hole all ready to go.

3)      Terry Funk made Barry Horowitz submit to the Spinning Toe Hold in 2:23. Speaking of Funk, he was in action and made short work of Barry Horowitz, locking on the Spinning Toe Hold for the submission victory.  If he can get that hold on Rick Rude, we will see a new Intercontinental champion this Sunday. ** ½

4)      Lex Luger defeated Brooklyn Brawler with the Torture Rack in 4:20. With us being just 4 days away from King of the Ring, Lex Luger is excited because he'll get his chance to get his hands on One Man Gang.  He took out a little bit of that aggression on Brooklyn Brawler, making him submit to the Torture Rack.  Luger is a strong guy, but will he be able to get the 400-plus pound in the Rack? ** ¾

5)      The Brainbusters defeated Rick Martel & Koko B. Ware after the Spike Piledriver on Koko in 14:23. Members of the opposing teams for the 8-man tag team match had one more chance to build their momentum as Rick Martel & Koko B. Ware took on The Brainbusters.  This was a fantastic tag team match which surprisingly had a clean finish.  Koko & Martel wrestled a great match, but in the end, their relative inexperience as a team would hurt them as the more experienced Brainbusters took the W after the Spike Piledriver on Koko.  After the match, SID VICIOUS & RIC FLAIR jumped in the ring to take one last piece out of them before this Sunday.  It didn't take long before DUSTY RHODES was in the ring to help even the odds, but due to his injured knee, he was quickly overtaken as well.  Things looked bleak until there was a commotion out in the crowd and a man jumped the railing... it was TITO SANTANA.  Tito Santana is in the UWF!  Santana was a house of fire and taking it right to the Horsemen, turning the tide as the face contingent cleared the ring of the Horsemen. ****

6)      Ric Flair grabbed the microphone from ringside and was very animated.  He yelled that he knew Tito Santana would be the mystery man and that Rhodes thinks he caught the Horsemen off-guard, but that is not the case.  Dusty had a microphone now and said he still has some more tricks, as Tito Santana is NOT the mystery man.  Flair asked what Dusty was talking about, and all the American Dream did was tell Flair to look behind him.  The Horsemen all turned around in time to see DUSTIN RHODES crack Sid Vicious between the eyes with a chair!  Before the Horsemen could get to the younger Rhodes, he slid back in the ring and joined his dad.  The Horsemen vowed revenge this Sunday as a stream of blood trickled down Sid's forehead.

7)      Bam Bam Bigelow defeated The Italian Stallion with a moonsault in 1:46. Bam Bam Bigelow is still harboring a lot of anger over not being in the King of the Ring tournament, and The Italian Stallion took the brunt of it as Bigelow made him eat a 350 plus pound moonsault and a loss. **

8)      "Mean" Gene Okerlund was joined in the back by the World Tag Team champions, the British Bulldogs.  Davey Boy Smith had his ribs heavily taped after the attack by Smash a few weeks ago with Mr. Fuji's cane.  The Bulldogs said they're a little beat up and worse for wear thanks to their matches with Demolition, but they cited those were singles matches and this Sunday it is what they do best, a tag team match.  "We will walk out of Miami as the World Tag Team champions!"  At this point, DEMOLITION bust in and attacked the Bulldogs, leaving them laying before telling the fallen champs that the titles were coming to them.

9)      Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, The Ultimate Warrior, & Kerry Von Erich defeated Andre the Giant, Haku, Greg Valentine, & Ted DiBiase (w/ Bobby Heenan, Jimmy Hart, & Virgil) by disqualification in 13:05. Our main event featured the 8 men that will participate in the King of the Ring tournament this Sunday, and truthfully, it was a bit of a mess.  Neither team really clicked all that well because everyone knows they may have to potentially wrestle anyone else in the match.  The crowd was really into it though, even with the disqualification finish when the match denigrated   The show went off the air with all 8 men brawling in the ring. * ½

6/12/88: KING OF THE RING - MIAMI, FL

1)      Quarterfinal Match - Ted DiBiase (w/ Virgil) defeated Kerry Von Erich with a Hotshot in 6:32. The show opened up with our first quarterfinal match with Ted DiBiase picking up the win over The Texas Tornado.  Von Erich had the fans firmly on his side as they have really taken to his style, and the Million Dollar Man took a lot of abuse as a result.  But he was able to duck the Tornado Punch and counter with a Hotshot and with a pull of the tights, secured his place in the semi-finals.  He will take on the winner of Randy Savage/Haku. ** ¾

2)      Quarterfinal Match - Hulk Hogan pinned Greg Valentine (w/ Jimmy Hart) with the Big Leg Drop in 4:41. Hulk Hogan has made it known that he wants the World Title, and winning this tournament will definitely help him on his way to that.  Greg Valentine looked to slow him down, but that just wasn't in the cards as Hogan was primed and ready, hitting the big boot/Big Leg Drop combo on the Hammer to move to the semis. * ½

3)      The Horsemen joined "Mean" Gene Okerlund for an interview.  Despite the events of last Wednesday on High Voltage, the Horsemen seemed upbeat about their 8-man tag team match (except for Sid Vicious, who was sporting a bandage on his forehead after Dustin Rhodes busted him up with a chair).  Okerlund asked them about Dusty Rhodes making his son the fourth partner.  Flair laughed it off, noting that the younger Rhodes is a 19-year old kid with no experience and a loser for a father.  Sid took over and said he was making it his personal goal to break Dustin Rhodes in half.  Flair concluded by saying he is going to get a lot of people hurt tonight.

4)      Quarterfinals - The Ultimate Warrior & Andre the Giant (w/ Bobby Heenan) wrestled to a double countout in 1:32. This match never really got out of the blocks as Andre the Giant & The Ultimate Warrior didn't seem that concerned with winning this match but rather beating the crap out of each other.  It wasn't long before these two went to the floor and the fight continued, resulting in both men being counted out.  As a result, Hulk Hogan now has a bye into the finals of the tournament. -**** 1/4

5)      Quarterfinals - Randy Savage (w/ Elizabeth) pinned Haku (w/ Bobby Heenan) with a small package in 5:07. The final quarterfinal match took place to see who would wrestle Ted DiBiase in the semi-finals.  Bobby Heenan had already watched one of his men get eliminated from the tourney, so he tried everything in his power to make sure the same wouldn't happen to Haku.  Heenan's distractions helped Haku put a beating on the Macho Man, but Savage is crafty and with a small package out of nowhere, picked up the win.  It will be Savage vs. DiBiase in the semi-finals. * ½

6)      Intercontinental Title Match - Rick Rude (w/ Bobby Heenan) defeated Terry Funk after Funk passed out in a sleeperhold in 10:56 to retain the title. As this match for the Intercontinental Title progressed, it looked as though we were going to see a new champion.  Even with Danny Davis being the referee, he was calling it right down the middle and it appeared that any issue he and Funk had was buried.  That was until this match's conclusion.  After a great back and forth encounter, Rude locked Funk in a sleeper in a move of pure desperation.  Funk struggled to get out of it, almost passing out before he got to the ropes.  However, when he grabbed the ropes, Davis pretended to have something in his eye and "didn't see it."  Funk almost went out again but once again made it to the ropes, but this time there was no pretending as Davis kicked Funk's arm off the ropes.  Rude pulled Funk back to the center of the ring, and despite his best efforts, Funk passed out and Rude is still the Intercontinental champion. ****

7)      Gene Okerlund grabbed Danny Davis for an interview and asked him about his "heinous actions" in blatantly costing Terry Funk that match.  Davis said that he is an official in the UWF and Terry Funk blatantly threatened him last week.  Since no action was taken against Funk for his threats, he took action into his own hands.  He finished by saying, "Maybe Terry Funk will think twice before he threatens Danny Davis!"

8)      One Man Gang (w/ Jimmy Hart) defeated Lex Luger with the 747 Splash in 6:38. Lex Luger has wanted to get his hands on One Man Gang for weeks now, and he got his chance in this one-on-one encounter.  Luger is a young raw talent with incredible strength, but he's also very inexperienced and it cost him big time in this match.  Luger did a great job of trying to chop the big tree down, but he made a huge mistake when he tried to lift OMG in the Torture Rack.  Luger's back gave out on him and moments later, OMG nailed the 747 Splash and this one was over. * ½

9)      Semi-Finals - Ted DiBiase (w/ Virgil) defeated Randy Savage (w/ Elizabeth) with the Million Dollar Dream in 7:25. Hulk Hogan was already in the finals of the tournament, and this match would determine who he would face.  Neither man had an easy go in the first round, so this would be a matter of who had the best conditioning.  The Macho Man looked great and was bouncing the Million Dollar Man all over the ring.  Virgil would get involved and try to help out his boss (as he is paid to do), jumping up on the apron and holding Savage prone after the referee had been bumped.  Before DiBiase could hit Mach, however, BAM BAM BIGELOW ran down and pulled Virgil off the ring apron and threw him into the ringpost!  Instead of being grateful, savage began yelling at Bigelow, telling him he had no business being out here and to go to the back.  Bigelow didn't get it as he argued he was helping him out.  During the commotion, DiBiase locked Savage in the Million Dollar Dream.  Savage fought desperately to escape, but once the Million Dollar Man has his finisher locked in, you're not escaping.  DiBiase picks up the win and now will face Hulk Hogan to determine the first King of the Ring.  After the match, Bigelow tried to help Savage up, but Savage shoved him away.  Bigelow continued to attempt to assist the Macho Man, but received a slap right across the face for his troubles!  Bigelow looked enraged and went at Savage, but thankfully for Mach, Elizabeth got between the two before anymore physicality could go down. **** 1/4

10)      World Tag Team Title Match - The British Bulldogs defeated Demolition (w/ Mr. Fuji) when Dynamite Kid pinned Smash after the running powerslam/flying headbutt combo in 15:02. The Bulldogs continued to prove why they are the best team in the world, once again putting on a great match and coming out on top.  Demolition looked great in the match as well and gave Davey Boy & Dynamite quite the run for their money, but in the end the technical savvy of the champions was too much as the Bulldogs retain their titles. Great match. **** 1/4

11)      World champion Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, & Sid Vicious defeated Dusty Rhodes, Koko B. Ware, Rick Martel, & Dustin Rhodes when Anderson pinned Ware with the Gourdbuster in 12:40. I'm sure Harley Race was hoping that this match would end a lot of feuds, but that ended up not being the case after this 8-man tag team match.  Dusty Rhodes pulled a big swerve when the mystery man ended up not being the newly signed Tito Santana but rather his own son Dustin.  The Horsemen didn't seemed too worried about the 19-year old rookie, but when he actually got in the ring, he showed that he could go, getting the better of Arn Anderson in a couple of exchanges.  The night would turn ugly for the young Rhodes.  Later in the match while Dusty Rhodes was in the ring being worked over, Sid Vicious jumped off the apron and attacked Dustin Rhodes on the floor.  Before anyone on his team knew what was going on, Dustin was lifted and Power Bombed hard onto the concrete floor!  Sid had a twisted smile on his face as the medical staff came and put Dustin on a stretcher.  Dusty saw what was happening, tagged out to Koko B. Ware, and left to the back with his son.  What this did was leave Koko & Martel at a 4-on-2 disadvantage, and they just couldn't overcome it as the Gourdbuster from Anderson on Koko would put this one in the books as a victory for the Horsemen.  We hope to get an update on the condition of Dustin Rhodes this Wednesday on High Voltage. *** ¾

12)      We had just one match to go, and it was the finals of the tournament between Hulk Hogan & Ted DiBiase.  Before the match could even begin, DiBiase grabbed the mic and made an offer to Hogan, offering him a thousand dollars if he'd just walk out of the match for the countout loss.  Hogan thought about it, causing DiBiase to up the offer to two grand.  Hogan smiled and took the money, and actually started to leave the ring!  The crowd couldn't believe it and wanted to boo the Hulkster until he stopped, turned to the crowd, and threw the money to them!  DiBiase couldn't believe it as Hogan got back in the ring and decked him with a right hand, starting the final match of the evening!

13)      Finals - Hulk Hogan defeated Ted DiBiase (w/ Virgil) with the Big Leg Drop in 9:09 to win the King of the Ring. The Million Dollar Man's attempt to buy off the Hulkster was unsuccessful, so he had to wrestle him instead.  That proved to be unsuccessful as well.  DiBiase got in a lot of offense and looked like he might have the win a couple times, even locking in the Million Dollar Dream.  But Hogan backed him into the turnbuckle, hit the big boot, and finished DiBiase with the Big Leg Drop.  Hulk Hogan is your 1988 King of the Ring. *** ½

Great job.  UWF clearly has a monopoly on the wrestling business to have all that talent.  Read really good and played out realistically as if it really might have happened.  Keep it up.

Thank you.  In my universe, it's just implied everyone else works for different companies.  I have a lot of talent, yes, but not ALL the talent. :)

6/15/88: HIGH VOLTAGE - ORLANDO, FL

1)      Our post-PPV show kicked off with President Harley Race announcing that next week he would announce the new number-one-contender for the World Title currently held by Ric Flair.  He and the championship committee were looking over several scenarios and would have a decision ready to go.  This brought out RANDY SAVAGE, who said the decision was simple and that the Macho Man should be the next man to get a title shot.  Race said he would take Savage's request into consideration.  At this point BAM BAM BIGELOW came out, and he had an entirely different thing to discuss, that being the Macho Man slapping him across the face at King of the Ring.  Savage apologized and said it was in the heat of the moment as he was upset over the loss to Ted DiBiase.  Bigelow seemed to accept this, shook Savage's hand and turned to leave.  The crowd was stunned though when Savage Pearl Harbored Bigelow with a knee to the back, driving Bigelow into the turnbuckle.  Savage laid into the Beast From the East with punches and kicks before going up top and hitting a double axehandle.  The assault concluded with Savage hitting the Flying Elbowdrop and spitting on Bigelow before heading to the locker room.

2)      Strike Force defeated The Conquistadors when Santana pinned #1 after the El Paseo del Muerte in 3:46. We have seen Tito Santana the past couple of weeks, but we got his first official match tonight as he teamed up with Rick Martel to form a team they're calling Strike Force.  As a team they looked great as it didn't take long for them to dispatch of The Conquistadors (join the club).  This looks to be the start of a great team here in the UWF. ***

3)      One Man Gang (w/ Jimmy Hart) defeated SD Jones after a sidewalk slam in 1:20. The domination of One Man Gang continued with this massacre of SD Jones, taking a little over a minute to put him down for the count.  During the match, we saw an insert promo from Lex Luger saying he wanted another shot at OMG.  You have to admire his guts, but you have to wonder if his head is all there. -1/4*

4)      Sid Vicious pinned Koko B. Ware after the Power Bomb in 7:52. Since coming to the UWF, Sid Vicious has been a devastation machine, culminating in stretchering Dustin Rhodes out on Sunday at King of the Ring after power bombing him on the concrete floor.  We don't have an update yet on Dustin other than he is still in the hospital recovering and his father Dusty is still with him.  Koko was looking to be the first to slow Sid down but that's easier said than done.  Koko used his speed to try to take Sid off his feet, and he did a decent job of working over his leg.  But in the end, Sid's imposing stature was enough to allow him to hit the Power Bomb and pick up another victory. *** 1/4

5)      Sid grabbed the mic after the match and gloated about what he did to Dustin Rhodes, saying it felt good hearing his back snap on the concrete.  Sid then had a message for Dusty Rhodes, telling him he better stay with his son because if he ever shows his face again, he will get the same treatment Dustin did.

6)      The Hart Foundation (w/ Jimmy Hart) defeated The Road Warriors when Bret pinned Hawk after the Hart Attack in 12:08. A week ago, The Road Warriors made quick work of the Hart Foundation, catching the Harts off-guard with their intensity.  Jimmy Hart demanded that his team get a rematch, and Harley Race signed it for tonight.  Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart had a much better game plan this week, and even though they took a beating, they had the technical wrestling advantage and they used that to pick up the victory after the Hart Attack.  This now puts these two teams at one win a piece.  One has to think that a third match will be signed to determine who the better team is. *** ¾

7)      Kerry Von Erich pinned Louie Spicolli after the Tornado Punch in 2:15.  The Texas Tornado had a good showing in the King of the Ring, but came up a little short against Ted DiBiase in the quarterfinals.  He wouldn't have the same trouble with young Louie Spicolli, knocking him senseless with the Tornado Punch. * ½

8)      Andre the Giant (w/ Bobby Heenan) defeated The Ultimate Warrior by countout in 7:09. As our main event match got started, Bobby Heenan joined Gorilla Monsoon & Jesse Ventura on commentary and said he had had a big surprise for The Ultimate Warrior.  After a slow plodding slugfest between these two, Andre dumped Warrior to the floor.  While Warrior was out on the floor, Andre grabbed the referee's attention which allowed RICK RUDE to blast Warrior in the back of the head with the Intercontinental Title!  Warrior was knocked out cold and as a result, was counted out.  Heenan said he tried to warn The Ultimate Warrior, but this is what happens when you mess with the Heenan Family. -**** ¾

9)      The show came to a close with the official coronation of Hulk Hogan as the 1988 King of the Ring.  The ceremony was done by "Mean" Gene Okerlund and UWF President Harley Race and was complete with a crown and robe.  Hogan accepted the honor and thanked the fans for helping him along the way when he was cut off by World champion RIC FLAIR.  Flair mockingly put over the Hulkster, saying what an achievement winning the tournament was and how Hogan is definitely worthy of getting more attention than the World champion.  Flair then got serious and said Hogan can enjoy his little ceremony, because when all is said and done, one thing he isn't and will never be is the World champion.  Flair let out a big, "WOO!" right in Hogan's face as the show came to a close.
Snabbit888Posted on 11/09/08 at 12:46:48

6/22/88: HIGH VOLTAGE - SAVANNAH, GA

1)      President Harley Race kicked off the show to announce the new number-one-contender for the World Title.  He said he and the championship committee had met all week and they had narrowed the list down to four men - Ted DiBiase, Randy Savage, Bam Bam Bigelow, and Hulk Hogan.  Because of the caliber of the four men, it was hard to make a choice, so Race is giving all four a chance to impress the championship committee next week.  All four competitors will wrestle in matches with the most impressive man being named the top contender and next challenger to Ric Flair's World Title.

2)      Lex Luger made Greg Valentine (w/ Jimmy Hart) submit to the Torture Rack in 5:40. Lex Luger keeps trying to get the better of One Man Gang, but thus far his attempts have been unsuccessful.  Jimmy Hart sent one of his other charges, Greg Valentine, to stop the Total Package.  Valentine is a veteran and did some damage to Luger, but Luger's raw strength was enough to put him in the Torture Rack and take the fall.  Luger grabbed the mic and told Jimmy Hart he wanted one more match with One Man Gang.  Hart said that if Luger was so set on having his ribs broken, One Man Gang would do so in three weeks. * ¾

3)      The Brainbusters defeated Pez Whatley & The Italian Stallion when Anderson pinned Whatley after a kneedrop in 2:32. The Horsemen continue to run roughshot over the UWF, the latest chapter being this tag match.  Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard continue to win and position themselves for a future tag team title shot, easily getting past Pez Whatley & The Italian Stallion. ** ½

4)      The Colossal Connection (w/ Bobby Heenan) defeated Scott Casey & Louie Spicolli when Andre pinned Spicolli with the Elbowdrop in 3:02. Bobby Heenan has announced that he is permanently teaming up Andre the Giant & Haku, referring to them as the Colossal Connection.  They proved to be a colossal obstacle for Scott Casey & Louie Spicolli, squashing them in short order.  Heenan got on the mic afterwards and said it won't be long before the Colossal Connection takes the World Tag Team Titles. *

5)      Koko B. Ware defeated Ted DiBiase (w/ Virgil) by disqualification in 9:07. A good match between these two ring generals that was spoiled by the ending.  A lot of chain wrestling and a good pace, but as he has in many matches in the past, referee Danny Davis' seemingly biased officiated resulted in a screwy ending.  Late in the match after Koko B. Ware had hit DiBiase with the Ghostbuster, Virgil jumped in the ring to break it up.  Koko fought him off and threw him to the floor, but Davis didn't call for the disqualification.  Koko called him out for it and gave him a shove before going for the cover again.  Davis hesitated and then called for the bell, disqualifying Koko for pushing him!  Koko (and the crowd) was livid.  He went after Davis, but he ducked out of the ring.  Davis got a rude awakening though when he backed into TERRY FUNK, who leveled him with a right hand and knocked him back into the ring.  Davis begged off, but backed right into a right hand from Koko as well.  Funk ended the beating by lifting Davis up and piledriving him to the canvas,  Davis had to be stretchered out. ** 1/4

6)      Intercontinental champion Rick Rude & his manager Bobby Heenan were interview next, asked about Rude's assault on The Ultimate Warrior last week.  Heenan said he was tired of Warrior thinking he could intimidate him and push him around, and it was time he got even.  Rude said he is the best wrestler in the world and that all of Warrior's huffing and puffing meant nothing, because he would be put in his place once and for all.

7)      Sid Vicious made Barry Horowitz submit to a nerve hold in 31 seconds. This has to be a first.  Sid Vicious has been such a brute force in the UWF and has left a trail of bodies in his wake.  Barry Horowitz wanted none of it, and when Sid got him in a nerve hold early, Horowitz quickly submitted and took the loss.  Sid is so dominant, that wrestlers don't even want a piece of him now.  One man I bet will want a piece of him though is Dusty Rhodes, who we will hear from next week for the first time since King of the Ring. *

8)      "Mean" Gene Okerlund caught up with Bam Bam Bigelow before our main event.  Okerlund asked him about Randy Savage attacking him last week.  Bigelow said nothing and when Okerlund pushed him on the subject, Bigelow grabbed Okerlund by the shirt and yelled, "SAVAGE IS DEAD!"

9)      World Tag Team Title Match - The British Bulldogs & Demolition (w/ Mr. Fuji) wrestled to a time limit draw in 30:00. Because of their great effort at King of the Ring, Demolition was granted one more shot at the World Tag Team Titles currently held by the British Bulldogs.  Demolition once again brought it to the table and took the Bulldogs to the limits, but the Bulldogs fought right back.  Unfortunately, the match couldn't reach a conclusion before the time limit expired, resulting in a draw.  Harley Race was quick to act, calling for a rematch next week, and it will be the final chance for Demolition to take the titles. *** ½

6/29/88: HIGH VOLTAGE - ATLANTA, GA

1)      Ted DiBiase (w/ Virgil) pinned Koko B. Ware with a rollover in 6:50. Our first match was also our first of two rematches from a week ago pitting Koko B. Ware & Ted DiBiase one on one.  Ted DiBiase was also looking to impress the championship committee with a strong showing.  This match was marred by the shenanigans of Danny Davis last week, who awarded DiBiase the win on a bogus disqualification.  The Million Dollar Man wouldn't need a crooked referee to win this match, but he did need a handful of tights as he reversed a crossbody attempt into a rollover to get the W.  Koko argued with the referee, but he didn't see it.  DiBiase wasn't happy with just the victory, as he and Virgil assaulted Koko until TERRY FUNK ran down and cleaned house for the save.  A tag team match with these four competitors has been signed for next week on High Voltage, live from Biloxi, Mississippi. **** 1/4

2)      Bam Bam Bigelow was in the back getting ready for his match to impress the championship committee when ELIZABETH walked in.  Bigelow greeted Elizabeth warmly and said he was sorry about all that has happened.  Elizabeth said she was sorry too and she wished the Macho Man didn't have such a temper.  Bigelow said he had to go get ready for his match.  Before he left, Elizabeth asked him not to hurt Savage.  Bigelow smiled and said, "I make no promises."

3)      Kerry Von Erich defeated Randy Savage (w/ Elizabeth) after a rolling reverse cradle in 6:05. Randy Savage was the second man up in his match to impress Harley Race and possibly be named the next challenger for Ric Flair and the World Title.  The Macho Man didn't have an easy go of it as he had to take on The Texas Tornado.  At the start of the match, Savage was reprimanding Elizabeth for talking to Bigelow, warning her to stay by his side.  Von Erich used Savage's wandering mind to his advantage, focusing on outwrestling the Madness.  Von Erich got the better of Savage for most of the match, but Savage used some shortcuts to get the Tornado primed for the Flying Elbowdrop.  He was distracted when BIGELOW came out from the back and yelled at him.  Savage jumped off the top and berated Bigelow, telling him to get out of there.  In doing so, he left himself wide open to a rolling reverse cradle from Von Erich and a loss in his match to impress. *** 1/4

4)      Strike Force defeated Brooklyn Brawler & Reno Riggins when Santana made Brawler submit to an armbar submission in 2:56. Another match, another win for Strike Force.  The team of Tito Santana & Rick Martel has looked fantastic and they showed more great teamwork this week.  Brooklyn Brawler & Reno Riggins couldn't seem to get along with each other long enough to put together any offense, and Santana showed his diversity in the ring by making Brawler submit to a very painful armbar submission. **

5)      World champion Ric Flair, along with the rest of the Horsemen, found LEX LUGER in the back.  Flair told Luger they've been scouting him and still think he has all the potential in the world.  Flair reminded Luger of his previous offer to let the Total Package join the Horsemen and how they never got a response.  "I'm a patient man, Luger, but you don't want to try my patience for too long.  Don't make me angry, Lex.  Do the right thing."  Luger said he was flattered by the offer, but before he could outright reject the offer, Flair stopped him and just said, "Sleep on it."

6)      Hulk Hogan pinned Greg Valentine (w/ Jimmy Hart) after the Big Leg Drop in 7:07. So far, you'd have to say that Ted DiBiase was in the lead to be named the number-one-contender with his win over Koko B. Ware (and seeing how Randy Savage was defeated).  Hulk Hogan knew he not only had to beat Greg Valentine, but had to beat the Hammer in impressive fashion.  Valentine wasn't going to make that easy for the Hulkster.  Hulk was cruising early, but a distraction from Jimmy Hart and his megaphone allowed the Hammer to work Hulk's leg over to set him up for the Figure-Four Leglock.  Valentine went as far as getting Hulk in the painful hold, but Hogan escaped it.  Valentine went to attack Hulk again, but Hogan "Hulked up," hit the big boot, and finished Valentine off with the Big Leg Drop. * ½

7)      THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR did an interview commenting on Rick Rude's comments from last week.  Warrior said that he was shocked that Rude attacked him - not because Rude attacked him, but because he was actually stupid enough to attack him.  Warrior babbled about the other battles from his past, and how he has faced difficult odds before.  Warrior knew that to get rid of Bobby Heenan once and for all, he would have to take down the crown jewel, and that was "Ravishing" Rick Rude.  Warrior said he would hurt the Heenan Family most by taking away the Intercontinental Title and banishing Rick Rude to the forsaken lands... or something like that.

8)      Bam Bam Bigelow defeated One Man Gang (w/ Jimmy Hart) by disqualification in 8:01. Bam Bam Bigelow's turn to impress, and he had the unenviable task of wrestling One Man Gang, Jimmy Hart's top thug.  There was nearly 900 pounds of hoss in the ring for this one, and the collisions these two monsters had were amazing.  Bigelow had the speed advantage and used it to stay one step ahead of OMG.  OMG got in his offense too, throwing Bigelow around like no one has been able to before.  Bigelow turned the tides when he dodged OMG's 747 Splash and looked to hit the Flying Headbutt, but he was stopped when he was jumped by RANDY SAVAGE, causing the disqualification.  Bigelow fought back and we had a brawl on our hands before UWF officials split them up. **

9)      We had a very special interview via satellite with "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes from his home in Austin, Texas.  Gorilla Monsoon conducted the interview and asked him about the condition of his son, Dustin.  Dusty said Dustin suffered a broken back and was just released from the hospital this week and is resting comfortably at home, but any chance that he had of a wrestling career is more than likely over.  Gorilla asked how Dusty was doing, and Dusty said this was the hardest thing he had ever went through and he blamed himself for what happened.  "Had I not pushed him to be the mystery partner in the match, he wouldn't be where he is now."  Jesse Ventura chimed in and asked Dusty if he heard Sid Vicious' comments.  Dusty said he did, and he was physically sickened by them.  Ventura wanted to know if Rhodes would come back to get revenge, and Rhodes said he didn't know if he had it in him anymore.

10)      World Tag Team Title Match - The British Bulldogs defeated Demolition (w/ Mr. Fuji) when Dynamite pinned Ax after the Flying Headbutt in 13:01. Demolition had one last chance to take the tag titles, and they came out strong and fast not wanting to waste it against the British Bulldogs.  Mr. Fuji even interfered an extra amount to try to wrangle the tag titles off of Davey Boy Smith & Dynamite Kid, but it would all be to no avail.  The Bulldogs wouldn't need extra time as Dynamite was able to hit Ax with the Flying Headbutt.  Davey Boy cut Smash off with a running clothesline allowing Dynamite to get the pinfall and a successful title defense for the Bulldogs. *** ½

This has been an interesting and fun read.  It has the flavor of an old school fed but it's written in the style of a modern fed.  Keep up the good work.

I do that more for my own sanity.  If it was booked strictly in an old school style, I don't know how interesting it could possibly be.  A show full of squashes and slow developing stories would suck in the written word. :)

Well hopefully wouldn't suck that much because it's how I'm writing my AWA fed.  :P  I understand what you mean though.  I throw the backstage stuff into my fed to give it flavor.  I enjoy writing that as much as the cards themselves.  But I'm loving your take on it - here's to hoping we see a lot more Demolition in the coming weeks!
