WCWF '89 (NWA and WWF)

JoshiQPosted on 07/06/08 at 07:17:00

The idea behind my new circuit will be that wrestling hit a massive down swing around '87. At this point almost all of the wrestling federations closed down. It took until November '89 for Vince McMahon to get everything back on track and signed a contract with NBC to have Saturday Night Main Event every week.

NWA has closed and Vince knew that the WWF already had the problem of being known as the wrestling federation that was shut down. So instead we opened up as World Championship Wrestling Federation.

Luckily we still had a decent roster to work off of:

Greg Valentine
Andre the Giant
Hulk Hogan
Arn Anderson
Tully Blanchard
Ric Flair
Hercules
Rick Steiner
Johnny Ace
Shane Douglas
Tom Zenk
Bret Hart
Jim Neidhart
Shawn Michaels
Marty Jannetty
Ax
Smash
Akeem
Big Boss Man
Dino Bravo
Ted DiBiase
Virgil
Jim Duggan
Dusty Rhodes
Earthquake
Hillybilly Jim
Sting
Brian Pillman
Barbarian
Warlord
Raymond Rougeau
Jacques Rougeau
Paul Roma
Jim Powers
Tito Santana
Tim Horner
Jimmy Garvin
Stan Lane
Bobby Eaton
Tugboat

Saturday Night Main Event
Detroit, MI
Joe Louis Arena
11/18/89

Your announcers are: Gorilla Monsoon, Bobby Heenan

The show started out with Mean Gene Okerlund in the ring thanking the fans for their attendance tonight. From there he promised that tonight would be a great show and would kick off a long tradition of terrific shows produced by the newest and best wrestling federation around, the World Championship Wrestling Federation!

Sting pinned Greg Valentine after a small package in 0:09:17.
Rating: * 3/4

Sting, a name that is getting more and more fan fare, showed why he is considered to be the next big thing here tonight. Greg Valentine spent most of the match trying to dismantle the left leg of Sting, but just when Valentine thought he had Sting in perfect position for the Figure-Four, Sting rolled him over in a small package and it was just enough to surprise Valentine and keep his shoulders down for the three count.

Rick Steiner pinned Raymond Rougeau with the Flying Bulldog in 0:06:02.
Rating: *** 1/2

Rick Steiner showed off his amateur wrestling skills here tonight by dismantling Raymond rather quickly. Raymond tried to use his speed, but Rick was just too powerful and able to keep Raymond grounded. The Flying Bulldog put Raymond down long enough for the three count. Jacques Rougeau, Raymond's brother, was there to console Raymond after the loss.

A quick few interview segments were shown with Sting saying he was going to show the whole WCWF what his combination of speed and strength can do, Earthquake threated to squash the other wrestlers in the Battle Royal, Andre the Giant said he had never been defeated in a Battle Royal and tonight would be no different, and Dusty Rhodes was going to be juking and a jiving all the way to the WCWF Title.

Demolition (Ax and Smash) defeated
The Young Stallions (Jim Powers and Paul Roma) when Ax pinned Roma with the
Decapitation Elbow in 0:09:07.
Rating: ** 3/4

Demolition continues to be a huge threat to the tag team scene as they had little trouble in disposing of the Young Stallions.

Earthquake pinned Tugboat with the Earthquake Vertical Splash in 0:06:43.
Rating: -*** 3/4

The ring literally shook when these two behemoths collided in the middle of the ring. Tugboat was able to show some impressive speed for such a big man as he evaded some of Earthquake's more powerful offense. Unfortunately he eventually got caught in a powerslam followed by Earthquake's Vertical Splash. Nobody will get up from that.

Mean Gene Okerlund conducted an interview with Ted DiBiase and Virgil. Ted DiBiase mentioned that he and Virgil were getting ready for a six man tag match, but they did not have a third man up until just now, but money can solve any problems. Ted DiBiase then said with his money he has bought the strongest man in the world, Dino Bravo! Dino stepped into the camera with manager Frenchy Martin. Dino shook DiBiase's hand and told him that his money would not be wasted.

The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart) and Brian Pillman defeated Ted DiBiase, Dino Bravo and Virgil when Pillman pinned Bravo with the
Air Pillman in 0:12:26.
Rating: ****
[Frenchy Martin interfered against Brian Pillman.]

This match totally stole the show. The Hart Foundation and Brian Pillman worked like a well-oiled machine while DiBiase, Bravo, and Virgil seemed to have some trouble communicating. Even so, it looked like at the end DiBiase's crew would come out on top as Virgil and Neidhart brawled on the outside and Bret Hart was still in pain from a Bravo clothesline. The two legal men, Pillman and Bravo were in the ring, but DiBiase had Pillman's arms hooked behind him. As DiBiase held Pillman in place Bravo bounced off the ropes and went to hit Pillman with a clothesline, but Pillman ducked and Bravo nailed DiBiase. The Million Dollar Man fell through the ropes as Dino looked on in shock and horror. Pillman took the time to set himself up and when Bravo turned around Pillman was able to springboard into the ring with the Air Pillman and get the three count!

The Hart Foundation and Pillman left the ringside area as DiBiase got back into the ring and he ripped into Bravo verbally. Eventually the trio and Frenchy Martin left the ring, but it was obvious that there was some problems already with DiBiase's new purchase.

Ric Flair made Tom Zenk submit to the Figure-Four Leglock in 0:06:53.
Rating: ***

Ric Flair cut an insert promo here along with Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson. Flair promised that their time was here and that tonight he would be walking off with the WCWF Heavyweight Title. Anderson followed that up by stating that he and Tully had one goal tonight and that was to make sure Flair walked out with the gold. The three men followed that up by sticking four fingers in the air.

The Midnight Express (Stan Lane and Bobby Eaton) defeated
Hercules and Jim Duggan when Eaton pinned Hercules with the Alabama Jam in
0:10:12.
Rating: 1/2*

Hercules and Jim Duggan made up a surprising tag team, but they couldn't quite pull off a win against such an established team as the Midnight Express. After the match Hercules shrugged off Duggan's checking up on him, and he walked to the back by himself.

In the back we had a few more quick segments with Hillbilly Jim stating that he tonight the Heavyweight Title would come home to a country boy, Tito Santana made mention that he has won a lot of titles, but tonight, for the first time ever, he will win the Heavyweight Title, and Hulk Hogan wanted to know what would happen when the entire WCWF felt Hulkamania running wild through it for the first time. Hogan promised a victory and that there wasn't a man out there tonight that could stop him.

20-Man Battle Royal:
Andre the Giant won a 20-man Battle Royal:
x Anderson threw out Douglas after a chop in 0:05:01

x Sting threw out J. Garvin in 0:20:02

x Andre threw out T. Santana after a vertical suplex in 0:30:43
x Sting threw out Flair in 0:32:49
x Andre threw out Sting in 0:34:09
Rating: *** 1/2
(Andre the Giant won the WCWF Heavyweight Title)

This Battle Royal really had a lot of wrestlers going all out in trying to capture the most precious title here in the WCWF. The first thing that was obvious was whenever Ric Flair started to get in trouble that Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson would dive over and break it up. With this backing it was doubtful it would be hard to try and eliminate the Nature Boy. Unfortunately for Arn Anderson, keeping Flair out of trouble distracted him long enough for Michaels to sneak up behind him and throw him over the top rope.

In showing the exact opposite of Anderson and Blanchard trying to protect Flair, Dino Bravo never even once looked over at DiBiase. In fact, Dino Bravo was standing right behind Hogan as Hogan eliminated DiBiase. Bravo just shrugged his shoulders and went back to work on Tim Horner before eventually eliminating him. Ted DiBiase, on the other hand, threw a fit at ringside and was talking to Virgil all the way back to the locker room.

Another surprising elimination took place when Bravo caught Rhodes with a kneelift as Rhodes was bent over pounding on Jimmy Garvin. The kneelift sent Rhodes flying and actually sent him over the top rope. Later on in the match, after a few eliminations, Hulk Hogan had started to get the upper hand on Andre the Giant. Something nobody had done up to this point in the match. Hogan pushed Andre back into the corner and nailed him with several punches. Out of nowhere Virgil slid into the ring with a chair! Virgil slammed the chair across the back of Hogan as DiBiase watched from ringside. Nobody had any idea when they had come back out from the locker rooms. Hogan slightly flinched before turning around and pointed at Virgil. Hogan was shaking with anger as he walked towards Virgil, but Andre grabbed him from behind and hurled him over the top rope! Virgil quickly slid under the bottom rope and ran to the back with DiBiase as Hogan argued with the referees at ringside.

Eventually we worked our way down to the final four: Ric Flair, Sting, Andre the Giant, and Tito Santana. Sting and Flair squared off and that meant Santana got paired off with Andre. This would be bad news for Tito as Andre had little trouble throwing him over the top.

This left Sting to deal with Andre and Flair. Flair put up the four fingers as if to show off the Four Horsemen symbol and Andre did the same! Andre then looked at his hand and turned the four fingers down towards the mat! Andre was rejecting the Four Horsemen! Flair seemed shocked but immediately chopped away at the Giant. It took Andre just one chop to floor the Nature Boy. Flair got to his feet, but was then grabbed by Sting and hurled over the top rope! Sting turned around and walked right into Andre! Sting sent several punches into Andre's breadbasket, but several big clubbing forearms to Sting's back stopped that in a hurry. It looked like it would be over quickly, but Sting did escape Andre long enough to climb to the top and try and hit a crossbody, but Andre caught him and dropped him hard with a slam. Sting slowly got to his feet clutching at his back as Andre grabbed him and hurled him over the top rope.

Andre won the WCWF Heavyweight Title!

Andre the Giant was handed the Title which he threw over his shoulder as the crowd continued to boo.

Next week on Saturday Night Main Event:

Hercules has promised a new tag team partner and that they would quickly climb the ranks of the tag team division, Hulk Hogan will be in action as he will be facing Dino Bravo of Ted DiBiase's Million Dollar team, Dusty Rhodes and Arn Anderson will duke it out, and, in the first ever match of this type, Brian Pillman, Tully Blanchard, Jim Duggan, and Big Boss Man will wrestle in what we are calling a four corners match. Not only that, but it will be for the vacant Intercontinental Title!

All this and much more, next week!

Saturday Night Main Event
Tampa, FL
The Sundome
11/25/89

Your commentators: Gorilla Monsoon, Bobby Heenan

Gorilla Monsoon welcomed us to the Sundome in Tampa, FL and said that before the opening match here tonight that Mean Gene Okerlund was in the back with Hercules.

Mean Gene asked what the deal was with Hercules and if he had found a tag partner for tonight's opening tag team match against the Dynamic Dudes. Hercules thanked Jim Duggan for his help last week, but said that he would no longer be needing the help of a guy that had to carry a board to the ring just to do some damage. Instead Hercules said he found somebody that could match him for strength. He then introduced Dan Spivey into the camera! Dan Spivey walked into the shot and told the Dynamic Dudes that they better watch out because they were about to take a walk down Power Street.

Power Street (Hercules and Dan Spivey) defeated The Dynamic Dudes (Johnny Ace and Shane Douglas) when Hercules pinned Ace after the Stuffed Power Bomb in 0:06:28.
Rating: *** 1/4

The team of Hercules and Dan Spivey, Power Street, really did impress on their first night as a duo. The Dynamic Dudes were able to throw out a few fast paced moves, but that was all the offense they would get before Douglas was hurled over the top rope and Ace was stuffed with a power bomb.

During the match Jim Duggan cut an insert promo where he said he had no problems with Hercules, and that it was the least of his worries as tonight he has bigger fish to fry. He let it be known that nobody was going to stand in his way of the Intercontinental Title, tough guy! He ended with his battle cry of "Hoo!" which echoed throughout the arena.

Tugboat pinned Jacques Rougeau with the Big Splash in 0:06:33.
Rating: ** 1/4

Once again one of the Rougeau's was defeated in singles action. Raymond quickly came out to give Jacques a pat on the back. Tugboat did a nice job of coming back from a defeat at the hands of Earthquake to pick up a win here tonight.

Greg Valentine defeated Paul Roma when Paul Roma passed out in the Figure-Four Leglock in 0:03:22.
Rating: * 1/2

Mean Gene Okerlund came down to the ring and introduced the new Heavyweight Champion, Andre the Giant! Andre stepped out from behind the curtain and slowly made his way down the aisle with the belt on his shoulder. Okerlund first congratulated Andre on his win, but the question that he seemed to think was on everybody's mind was what is next for Andre. Andre responded that he had already defeated the best the WCWF had to offer last week in just one match. Andre was under the assumption that nobody would have the guts to step into the ring with him again after last week's showing. Little did he know that Sting was in the building and the crowd nearly exploded as Sting walked down the aisle. Mean Gene walked over to Sting as Sting entered the ring. Mean Gene asked Sting what he was doing out there, and Sting made it be known that he has never feared anybody and Andre might be a giant, but Sting said he had a bigger heart than Andre could ever wish for. Andre lifted the belt as if to say who cares? Sting said that since he was the last man in the battle royal then he should be the first one in line for a shot. Andre started laughing as he shook his head yes. When the microphone got back to Andre he let Sting know that "You don't know know what you're in for, boy!" Andre still had a big smile on his face as he walked away while Sting looked on with a determined look on his face.

Hulk Hogan pinned Dino Bravo with the Big Leg Drop in 0:09:10.
Rating: -1/2*
[Frenchy Martin interfered against Hulk Hogan.]

Hulk Hogan sure was impressive tonight as he was able to handle Dino Bravo without suffering too much damage. Still, it could be said that Ted DiBiase and Virgil could have done more to help. Frenchy Martin, Dino's manager, seemed to be the only one focusing totally on the match as Ted and Virgil were constantly arguing with the fans. DiBiase bought a stong wrestler in Dino Bravo and a good second in Frenchy, but so far the results have not been that great. DiBiase and Virgil did seem to wake up after the bell rang as they slid into the ring and started to put the boots to Hogan. Bravo joined in and soon it was 3 on 1 as Frenchy cheered them on from ringside. Things started to get a little scary as Frenchy handed a chair into Virgil, but luckily things were broken up as Hillbilly Jim ran down the aisle and cleared the ring of the DiBiase's Million Dollar team.

Hillbilly Jim tried to help Hogan to his feet, but Hogan almost buckled under his own weight. Luckily Hillbilly Jim was there to help Hogan up and helped him to the back. It seemed that Hogan could barely put any weight on his left leg. Apparently one of the many kicks to Hogan had damaged his knee.

Demolition (Ax and Smash) defeated
The Rockers (Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty) when Ax pinned Jannetty after the Demolition Decapitation in 0:13:52.
Rating: ** 3/4

Another impressive outing from Demolition, but the Rockers really showed that they can hang with the bigger stars of the federation as they went toe-to-toe with Ax and Smash for almost 14 minutes. Still, eventually the overwhelming strength of Demolition was too much for the Rockers to come back from and they were able to put Jannetty down for the three count.

During the match Demolition cut an insert promo stating that they would be the first WCWF champions no matter who got in their way. They claimed that no team was even close to as strong as them or had their experience. They stated that the titles would be around their waists and there wasn't anything the Midnight Express, the Rockers, the Powers of Pain, or the Hart Foundation could do about it.

Arn Anderson pinned Dusty Rhodes after a swinging neckbreaker in 0:13:22.
Rating: ***

Arn Anderson was out alone tonight as Ric Flair was not in the building apparently, and Tully Blanchard was involved in the next match. Things would not go well for Anderson tonight as Dusty Rhodes took out his frustration from last week's battle royal on him. Anderson got in the occasional offense, but Dusty totally dominated most of the match. Unfortunately for him, around the 13 minute mark Dusty telegraphed a back bodydrop and Anderson was able to drop him with a swinging neckbreaker. Anderson went for the quick cover and even put his feet on the ropes for leverage. The ref didn't see this and Anderson scored the three count.

After the match Dusty Rhodes immediately got to his feet and and smashed Anderson with an elbow! Anderson hit the mat and Dusty hooked him in a figure-four leglock! Dusty held on for over 30 seconds as Anderson was screaming out in pain. Referees poured out of the locker room and they were eventually able to pull him off. Tully Blanchard also showed up at around this time and Dusty looked like he would go after Tully, but the refs pushed him to the outside and dragged him to the back. It looked like Dusty was more than slightly frustrated over the last couple of weeks.

Four Corners Match:
Tully Blanchard defeated Jim Duggan, Brian Pillman and Big Boss Man when Blanchard pinned Duggan with the Slingshot Suplex in 0:10:12.
Rating: **
(Tully Blanchard won the Intercontinental Title.)

What a match we had here tonight to crown the very first Intercontinental Champion! Tully Blanchard, Jim Duggan, Brian Pillman, and the Big Boss Man took turns just hammering one another. Eventually it got down to the point where Pillman and the Boss Man were brawling on the outside, but this left Duggan and Blanchard on the inside. Just when it looked like things were going Duggan's way, JJ Dillon, who we had not seen in the WCWF up to this point, came out and tripped Duggan as he was preparing for the 3 Point Stance. Duggan slowly got to his feet and went to go after JJ Dillon, but Blanchard smashed him with a knee from behind and then lifted him up for the Slingshot Suplex. That would be all she wrote as Tully Blanchard was crowned the first ever Intercontinental Champion! Arn Arnderson limped his way out to ringside after and celebrated with JJ Dillon and Tully on this big night for the Four Horsemen.

News and upcoming events:

Two huge pieces of news came out of tonight's show. First, Tully Blanchard has been crowned the Intercontinental Champion after fighting through Jim Duggan, Brian Pillman, and the Big Boss Man. He is also the first man to bring gold to the Horsemen. Not to mention that JJ Dillon is back with the Horsemen and now they should be just as deadly as ever. The question remains, who will be the fourth man?

The other big piece of news is that Hulk Hogan apparently twisted his knee during the post match beatdown he suffered from the Million Dollar Man, Virgil, and Dino Bravo. He has been told he would be out for about three weeks. Hogan has promised revenge, but in the meantime, who is going to keep DiBiase in check?

Next week on Saturday Night Main Event Hercules and his new tag team partner, Dan Spivey, will be squaring off with the Midnight Express in the semi-finals of a tag team tournament that will crown the first ever WCWF Tag Team Champions! The Powers of Pain square off with the Hart Foundation in the other semi-finals match of the tag team tournament! Not only that, but we have the finals of the tag team tournament as the winners of these two matches will square off for the titles! A debut of a new superstar as this unknown wrestler will face off with Jimmy Garvin! Also Tully Blanchard has his first Intercontinental Title defense against Rick Steiner, Dusty Rhodes also teams up with Tito Santana to face Ric Flair and Anderson!

And in the main event, Andre the Giant defends his title for the first time against Sting! It should be a crazy night of action!

JoshiQPosted on 07/09/08 at 02:46:13

Vince McMahon signed a contract apparently just after Saturday Night Main Event. Every Tuesday from now on ESPN will carry Superstars, a one hour show based around WCWF wrestling.

Superstars 11/28/89

Hillbilly Jim pinned Randy Rose after a faceslam in 0:06:23.
Rating: * 1/2

Hillbilly Jim cut an insert promo stating that Ted DiBiase and the rest of his crew better watch out. He said that even though Hulk Hogan may be out of action, they still got a good old country boy looking to make sure they keep in line.

The Twin Towers (Akeem and Big Boss Man) defeated Brad Armstrong and Paul Roma when Boss Man pinned Roma with the Boss Man Slam in 0:08:29.
Rating: ***
(Jim Powers no-showed.)

Slick with the Twin Towers had an insert promo during the match claiming that they were overlooked in the tag title tournament and that they would be watching very closely this Saturday.

Earthquake pinned Jim Brunzell with the Earthquake Vertical Splash in 0:05:22.
Rating: **

A backstage segment had Ric Flair standing with JJ Dillon, Arn Anderson and the Intercontinental Champion, Tully Blanchard. Flair promised that Dusty would pay for his attack on Anderson and that on Saturday Dusty would feel a true figure-four leglock. Arn Anderson also had some words for Dusty stating that he had beat him once, and that the second time would be even easier. Only this time he would make sure Dusty stayed down longer than for a 3 count. Blanchard promised Rick Steiner a tough time on Saturday and that there was no way that somebody with such little class should be even close to the gold he had around his waist.

Brian Pillman pinned Iron Mike Sharpe with the Air Pillman in 0:05:15.
Rating: *

Rick Steiner pinned The Barbarian with the Flying Bulldog in 0:09:11.
Rating: ** 1/4

Rick Steiner showed just how tough he can get if he needs to be. He was able to take care of the Barbarian and after the match he motioned that he wanted the Intercontinental belt around his waist.

Sorry about the delay, I'll try to keep these long delays from happening.

Saturday Night's Main Event
11/2/89
Hershey Park, PA

Your commentators: Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan

The show opened up with an interview conducted by Gene Okerlund with the Hart Foundation. Bret Hart claimed that tonight was their night and they would be walking out as tag team champions. Jim Neidhart let out one of his trademark laughs as they walked off the camera.

The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart) defeated The Powers of Pain (The Barbarian and Warlord) when B. Hart pinned Barbarian after a German suplex in 0:08:55.
Rating: * 1/2

The Hart Foundation really showed that they are easily the tag team to beat here tonight. The Powers of Pain were able to control a major part of the match, but Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart battled back and Bret was able to catch the Barbarian totally off guard with a German Suplex for the pin.

The Midnight Express cut an interview before their match with Jim Cornette. Jim Cornette let it be known that there was only one reason for them to be here in the WCWF and that was to win the tag titles. He also mentioned that they had defeated Hercules before, and it did not matter who was his tag team partner, they could and would do it again.

Power Street (Hercules and Dan Spivey) defeated
The Midnight Express (Stan Lane and Bobby Eaton) when Hercules pinned Eaton after the Stuffed Power Bomb in 0:11:45.
Rating: ****

Power Street came through in what was quite the upset victory. Nobody gave them much chance, but somehow they were able to pull it off. Jim Cornette threw a hissy fit on the outside after the match as he rammed his tennis raquet into the ringpost several times. Power Street will now face the Hart Foundation in the finals of the tag team tournament for the titles later tonight.

Demolition had an interview after the match with Ax stating how they had no idea why they were overlooked to be in this four man tournament and how could a team like Power Street be considered when they had only been together for a week. Smash promised to show the whole WCWF why they are called Demolition from here on.

Greg Valentine pinned Jim Powers with the Figure-Four Leglock in 0:03:43.
Rating: *

Greg Valentine comes off his victory last week of Paul Roma with a win over Roma's tag partner, Jim Powers. Both wins have come in surprisingly quick fashion.

Tully Blanchard pinned Rick Steiner with the Slingshot Suplex in 0:08:10.
Rating: ** 1/4
(Tully Blanchard retained the WCWF Intercontinental Title.)

Rick Steiner came to wrestle here tonight and Tully Blanchard was there to match him move for move. Tully Blanchard really showed off his skills here tonight as he was able to go toe to toe with the much more muscular Rick Steiner. Rick Steiner came very close to winning the title when he had Tully dazed and set up for the Flying Bulldog, but JJ Dillon saw this from ringside and, while the ref wasn't watching, was able to push Steiner off the top rope. Steiner hit the mat pretty hard and was obviously stunned. Tully didn't waste any time in capitalizing with the Slingshot Suplex for the win. This was a very big win for Blanchard, but Rick Steiner was also able to show that he belongs right there in the midst of things for the Intercontinental Title.

Jimmy Garvin came down to the ring before the next match and he grabbed a microphone. He let everybody know that he was facing a newly signed wrestler by the WCWF, but that didn't matter to him. He would be taking him out and working his way to the gold. He looked rather cocky until BIG JOHN STUDD stepped out from the curtain. The smile quickly faded from Garvin's face.

Big John Studd pinned Jimmy Garvin with the Backbreaker in 0:05:21.
Rating: **

Big John Studd stood over Garvin after his victory and lifted his arms up as the crowd really went nuts for him. It looks like Big John Studd is back and this can only mean bad things for everyone else here in the WCWF.

Dusty Rhodes and Tito Santana defeated Horsemen Flair & Anderson (Ric Flair and Arn Anderson) when T. Santana pinned Anderson with the Flying Forearm in 0:13:12.
Rating: ***

Dusty Rhodes teamed up with Tito Santana here tonight, and Dusty got a little bit of revenge for his loss last week to Anderson. Flair and Anderson showed some nice tag team work, but it was Tito that caught Arn totally off guard with the Flying Forearm to get the three count. Flair and Anderson did immediately capitalize right after the match as Flair grabbed a chair and smashed it across the back of Tito. Dusty was right there though to run them both off. Dusty checked up on Tito as Arn, Flair, and Dillon exited the area. Dusty got pretty angry after the match as he paced around the ring ring swearing that this was far from over.

Hillbilly Jim cut an interview backstage with Mean Gene before his match. Hillbilly let it be known that Hulk Hogan is out of action for a little while and the whole reason behind it is the dollars that Ted DiBiase throws around. Tonight he planned to pick up where Hogan left off and since Virgil is so concerned about money, he would let him pay part of the price that DiBiase owes.

Hillbilly Jim defeated Virgil by disqualification in 0:05:08.
Rating: *

Hillbilly Jim showed just angry a country boy can get as he whipped on Virgil for several minutes before DiBiase had seen enough. He motioned to the back and out ran Dino Bravo with Frenchy Martin. Bravo slid into the ring as Hillbilly was pounding on Virgil in the corner and blindsided him. With everything clear DiBiase slid into the ring and started helping put the boots to Hillbilly Jim with Dino and Virgil. Things were starting to look rather bleak for Jim when Hulk Hogan's music started up. The crowd went crazy as the Million Dollar group turned to face the entry way. This gave Hillbilly enough time to slide out from the ring and stagger to the back. Nobody came out from the back, but the message was clear. Hogan was still keeping an eye out on DiBiase and his crew.

The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart) defeated Power Street (Hercules and Dan Spivey) when B. Hart pinned Spivey after the Hart Attack in 0:15:29.
Rating: ** 1/2
(The Hart Foundation won the WCWF World Tag Team Titles.)

The Hart Foundation and Power Street had quite the battle here tonight, but in the end, it was the more experienced tag team that came away with the victory. But it may not have been the experience that gave them the advantage. Right near the end of the match, when it looked like Power Street might just pull it out, Stan Lane and Bobby Eaton came down with Jim Cornette. Dan Spivey and Jim Neidhart were in the process of duking it out in the corner which the referee was trying to pull apart as the Midnight Express pulled Hercules off the apron. Hercules tried to fight back, but a well aimed shot by Cornette with his tennis raquet put him down for good. Back in the ring, Spivey was able to fight back and tried to make a desperate tag, but there was no one there. The Hart Foundation was able to put an end to things from there as they teamed up and hit Spivey with the Hart Attack for the win.

To the Hart Foundation's credit, they never seemed to realize that the Midnight Express had even shown up at ringside. They looked totally surprised as they were handed the titles and noticed Cornette, Eaton, and Lane standing around the ring.

There was a commercial break before the main event, and right after we cut back to Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart, with the titles strapped on, backstage with Gene Okerlund. Bret Hart said that he had no idea that those two blond bimbos were at ringside and that the geek Cornette could take his tennis raquet and shove it. He said that he did not want to be known as the tag team that won the titles by cheating. Neidhart promised that next week they would show how they thanked Cornette and his team for their help...by beating them senseless.

Andre the Giant pinned Sting with the Butterfly Suplex in 0:13:22.
Rating: * 1/2
(Andre the Giant retained the WCWF World Heavyweight Title.)

Andre's first defense was not an easy one. Sting kept fighting back throughout the entire match, and even though he was outweighed by a couple hundred pounds, he refused to give up. Still, Andre is not an easy force to be stopped. Sting almost was able to win the match with a high crossbody, but it seemed to just make Andre even more mad. Andre might have been temporarily caught off guard by Sting's speed, that was immediately put to an end. From there Andre dominated the entire match until the end. Andre did miss a big splash and Sting tried to find a way of beating the big man after. His big mistake was going for a back bodydrop, but Andre caught him and hit his Butterfly Suplex. That was just enough to get the three count.

After the match Andre rolled Sting out of the ring with his big foot. He then let loose a laugh as he grabbed his title from the referee.

The show began with comments from Jim Cornette, who was standing with the Midnight Express. Cornette said that it did not matter that they lost on Saturday because they were going to take the titles in just a few days. He also let it be known that Hercules and Dan Spivey would pay for cheating the Midnight Express out of the honor of being the first tag team champions.

The Powers of Pain (The Barbarian and Warlord) defeated The Lightning Express (Tim Horner and Brad Armstrong) when Warlord made Horner submit to the Full Nelson in 0:07:41.
Rating: **** 1/4

The Lightning Express put up more of a fight than was expected, but the Powers of Pain, along with Mr. Fuji, were able to come through with the victory. This should be considered a big win for the Powers of Pain as they were able to get away from their losing ways as of late.

Earthquake pinned Barry Horowitz after a powerslam in 0:07:30.
Rating: * 1/4

A video package was shown of Big John Studd's previous domination from a few year's back. Big John
Studd really came through looking as a total monster.

Brian Pillman pinned Randy Rose with the Air Pillman in 0:07:44.
Rating: ** 1/2

Brian Pillman continued to look impressive by totally dominating his match tonight with Randy Rose.

Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan were in a studio announcing that there would be a pay-per-view on January 26, 1990. It will be named the Royal Rumble with a huge 30 man, over the top battle royal, but this one has special rules. It starts with two men in the ring, and every two minutes after a new superstar will enter the ring. The winner will get the right to face to the World Champion at WrestleMania VI!

The Rockers (Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty) defeated The Rougeau Brothers (Jacques Rougeau and Raymond Rougeau) when S. Michaels pinned J. Rougeau after the Double Flying Fistdrop in 0:08:50.
Rating: *** 1/2

The Rockers just barely squeeked away with a win here tonight, but the Rougeau Brothers were not overly happy about it. After the match as Jannetty and Michaels were celebrating, Jacques and Raymond ambushed them from behind. The crowd was not happy as the Rougeau's left the Rockers laying.

Akeem pinned Shane Douglas with the 747 Splash in 0:05:05.
Rating: **

Akeem had the Big Boss Man and Slick at ringside cheering him onto victory. Shane Douglas tried to put up a fight, but Akeem was just too big.

Sean Mooney and Jesse Ventura played up that Andre the Giant would be defending the title on Saturday! They also said that Tully Blanchard had accepted Dusty Rhodes's challenge for a non-title match!
