UW Fury (7/10/06)

MatteusPosted on 04/19/08 at 16:32:56

Welcome everyone to UW Fury!  Last week we found out at the end of the show that "The Rated R King" Edge will have an opportunity to capture the World title from Triple H when the two face off at Mercury Rising!  Edge made this proclamation last week after interfering in Triple H's match against Booker T, and neither The Game or Book are happy about the way last week's show ended.  This week, they'll have their opportunity to get some revenge as they face Edge and the "X-Rated Prince" Teddy Hart.

Generation Next made their presence known last week as well, interrupting a stellar match involving Monty Brown, Limited Edition and Team Canada!  They promised to make an impact and laid all parties out, but why?  Hopefully, someone will shed some light on this situation tonight.  John Cena was laid out by Samoa Joe last week and seemed to have severely hurt his back in the process.  We'll find out the severity of the injury this week and Samoa Joe will be in action!  And we'll also see half of the World Tag Team champions face off against one of his opponents for Mercury Rising as Johnny Nitro goes up against Brian Kendrick!  Can Kendrick continue the streak of success he and his partner have had as of late or will Nitro put a stop to the challenger's streak?

All this and more, tonight!  Let's get to the ring!

UW Fury (7/10/06)

"The Rated R King" Edge and "The X-Rated Prince" Teddy Hart opened the show in the ring, as the Hybrid champion arrogantly reiterated that he would defeat the UW World champion Triple H at Mercury Rising on July 30th.  Teddy mockingly asked what made Edge so certain he would win.  Edge laughed and told the crowd that at the pay-per-view, Triple H would have an ace up his sleeve in the form of special referee... Teddy Hart!  Hart told the crowd that he would be certain to call the match exactly as he sees it, but tonight, he and Edge would defeat the team of Triple H and Booker T in the main event!  Edge closed by saying that he would lay out the World champion tonight, and at Mercury Rising, he would take his title...

Before our opening contest, Basham came out and said that despite what he said last week, he has decided to give someone else the opportunity to defeat Samoa Joe tonight.  He thought he would challenge someone who would be a bit more... his caliber.  So tonight, he'll take on the very talented, very dangerous... Shark Boy!

Basham pinned Shark Boy with the Last Impression in 0:03:13.
Rating: * 3/4

Obviously, Shark Boy is still treading water here in UW, as Basham defeated him handily tonight.  He hit him with the Last Impression, a running high jumping leg lariet, and that was all she wrote.  Basham was rather haughty for someone who only just defeated Shark Boy.  Suddenly, Damaja's music played and he came out calling his former partner a coward for not taking on Samoa Joe!  Basham started to explain himself, but nailed Damaja in the gut and hit him with a piledriver!  He yelled that for weeks, he has tried to talk sense into Damaja, but now it looks like he'll have to beat some sense into him!  At Mercury Rising, it's going to be Basham vs. Damaja, and if Basham wins, Damaja has to agree to meet with this mysterious "him" we keep hearing about!

We found out after the match the extent of John Cena's injury last week, and unfortunately the injury seems likely to keep him out of action for two months. Backstage, JBL and Samoa Joe cut a promo on John Cena, as JBL reveled in his "victory".  He told Cena to simply stay home and collect unemployment.  He's lucky to still be alive.  He pointed to Joe and said that Cena is the reason Joe is here in UW, and from here on in, every drop of blood spilled by the Samoan Submission Machine will be on his hands.  Joe ringed his hands and smiled as the camera panned in on his frightening visage...

Backstage, Triple H cut a promo saying that last week, he had Booker T defeated after the Pedigree.  But the UW's new King and his jester came and decided that was a perfect moment to stake their claim atop the mountain.  Unfortunately for them, this is Triple H's mountain.  Triple H has defeated the best this company, this world has to offer.  He said Edge isn't even in his league.  He told him to bring whoever he wants, make up whatever rules he wants, because at Mercury Rising, he'll fall like all the rest.  And he'll bow down to the true king...

Samoa Joe made Jason Blade submit to the Kokina Clutch in 0:04:23.
Rating: ** 1/2

As would be expected, Joe dominated the young Jason Blade from bell to bell.  He hit Blade with the Muscle Buster and made him pass out to the Kokina Clutch.  Once the bell rang, Joe refused to let go, wrenching back on an already unconscious wrestler's neck!  After he finally let go, JBL announced the implementation of the Samoa Joe Invitational.  Any wrestler who could last ten minutes in the ring with Joe or defeat him, he laughed, will win one million dollars of JBL's money!  And the Invitational will debut at Mercury Rising!

A pre-taped promo showed Generation Next in the gym training.  Austin Aries said that they've been looked over for too long in UW, and last week they made their stand.  Shelley said he was pissed off that Matteus would place such a high priority on two matches featuring such muscle-bound buffoons Monty Brown, Bobby Roode, and Rob Conway and no-talent hacks like Petey Williams, Eric Young and Nick Dinsmore.  So they requested that these matches be changed and last week they made sure all parties would accept the terms.  At Mercury Rising, Helms said it would now be Monty Brown vs. Petey Williams vs. Austin Aries while the match featuring Limited Edition and Team Canada would now include Generation Next's Alex Shelley!  But Helms wouldn't be joining him, as he's signed a contract to face Booker T in a 2 out of 3 Falls Match that night.  Instead, they would be introducing a new member of Generation Next at Mercury Rising!

Brian Kendrick pinned Johnny Nitro after a leg lariat in 0:08:09.
Rating: *** 1/4

Kendrick and London continue their streak over MNM!  London showed up part way through the match and seemingly started flirting with Melina!  This caught Nitro's attention, and he chased after London outside the ring, but when he reentered the squared circle, Kendrick was waiting and met him with a leg lariat to score the upset!  Kendrick and London celebrated up the aisle while half of the tag champions and Melina stood fuming in the ring!  The challengers have plenty of momentum heading into their title bout at Mercury Rising!

Triple Threat Match:
Alex Shelley defeated Bobby Roode and Nick Dinsmore when A. Shelley pinned
Dinsmore after an inverted DDT in 0:09:10.
Rating: *** 1/2

In a preview of what's to come at Mercury Rising, these three men were looking to gain an advantage psychologically and physically for their respective teams.  Unfortunately, tensions are still high between Team Canada and Limited Edition, and Shelley took full advantage of that letting his two larger opponents beat each other senseless until he was ready to come in and claim the match, pinning Dinsmore with an inverted DDT.  Roode couldn't break the pin, but can Alex Shelley repeat this feat with his partner at the pay per view?  Next week, his Gen Next partner Austin Aries will try to repeat the success of his stable mate as he faces Team Canada's Eric Young and Rob Conway of Limited Edition.

Backstage, Triple H and Booker T were getting ready for their match.  Booker calmly told Hunter he would've kicked out last week, and Triple H replies that there was no chance he'd have kicked out.  Booker reminded him that tonight is about getting revenge on Edge and Hart, but just remember that Hunter STILL hasn't beaten Booker T... and he wants the World title.

The World's Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin) defeated
Major League (Sonny Siaki and Steven Richards) when S. Benjamin pinned Siaki after
a gutwrench suplex in 0:07:10.
Rating: ** 1/2

The WGTT is back and they look as good as ever!  Their teamwork was fluid and nearly flawless, as they showed no signs of rust from not teaming for over a year.  Major League did their part and certainly didn't go down without a fight, but the WGTT pulled out a good hard-fought win and look fantastic heading into their grudge match with O'Haire and Chavo.  During the match, O'Haire and Chavo cut an insert promo saying that regardless of the outcome of this match, Benjamin and Haas will both face their fate come Mercury Rising.  Again, they stressed that the North American champion knows not what he is doing...

Edge and Teddy Hart defeated Triple H and Booker T when Edge pinned Triple H
after a low blow in 0:14:55.
Rating: *** 1/2
[Gregory Shane Helms interfered against Booker T.]

Regardless of the methods and circumstances, the Hybrid champion has pinned World champion Triple H.  Edge took full advantage of a distraction from Generation Next's Gregory Shane Helms, taking Booker out of the picture as he chased Helms away and started brawling to the backstage area with him.  As the ref was further distracted, Triple H had Teddy Hart set up for the Pedigree.  But the opportunistic King entered the ring and hit Triple H with an extremely vicious low blow, putting The Game out of commission as he covered him for the pinfall victory.

As the show closed, we got a close up on Triple H on the mat writhing in pain as Edge held his Hybrid title high in the air and Hart filmed both parties on his X-Cam and celebrated.  Edge has to put that belt on the line next week in a rematch against Petey Williams!  Will Edge make it to Mercury Rising as the champion, and what will The Game have in store for the Rated R King and his minion next week?
