Notes on the Pay Per View


Jesse Ventura and Gorilla Monsoon provided the commentary for the odd numbered matches.
Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler provided the commentary for the even numbered matches.

Throughout the evening, Mean Gene Okerlund interviewed participants to get their thoughts on their matches.

Dynamite Kid came out before his match and claimed he wouldn't be able to compete.
He has his protege, Tsuyoshi Kikuchi, take his place.
However, during the match, Dynamite Kid got involved attacking Malenko on the outside, making it obvious he was fine to compete.  

After his loss, William Regal is shown trashing his locker room.
He slams the door in the cameraman's face, when he notices his presence.

The Road warriors interference against Demolition in the Tag Team titles match led to their defeat.

Steve Austin managed to execute a Stone Cold Stunner on Sting, in spite of his neck injury.
Afterwards, a couple of referees helped Austin to the back.

After the main event, Kevin Nash slowly left the ring and headed towards the back.
The Four Horsemen members came out to celebrate with Flair as the show went off the air.

Opening segment


Kevin Nash is in the ring.
He explains why he walked out on Raw.
After trying for a year to become Champion, he won the title, only to have the Rock steal it from him at the Royal Rumble.
He's had plenty of opportunities to regain the title since then and has failed.
Nash announces he isn't sure if he still has a passion for the business.
He says good night and leaves.

Once he gets backstage, Shane McMahon tries to talk him into staying and facing Flair on Raw for the title.
Nash turns down the offer and is shown proceeding to leave the building.

As Dean Malenko went for a pinfall on Dynamite Kid, Tsuyochi Kikuchi broke up the pinfall, leading to the DQ finish.
Afterwards Dynamite and Kikuchi attacked Malenko until a group of referees broke it up.

Ric Flair makes fun of Nash's speech on Smackdown and talks about him running away.
While Flair is talking, the Injustice League and Shane McMahon come to the ring.
They defend Nash's actions and tell Flair when Nash returns, he'll win the title.
Rude then talks about facing Flair tonight for the title.

A group of referees are in Shane McMahon's office.
They demand Rick Rude be reprimanded for his actions on Raw.
He tells them he's going to go out to the ring and address the issue.

After the Smackdown credits run, Shane is in the ring.
He talks about Rude's actions on Raw and calls him out to the ring.
Rick Rude comes out to the ring.
Shane tells him he feels the referee should have extended the match and apologizes.
Shane informs him to make things right, Rick Rude will be facing Ric Flair for the title at King Of The Ring.
Rick Rude then thanks Shane and talks about having another opportunity.

During the main event, as Kobashi was about to win the match, Sid Justice ran in and attacked him.
Sid and Sting briefly teamed up to attack Kobashi, until Triple H ran in with a sledgehammer and cleared the ring of them.

He announces that due to Steve Austin's injury, effective immediately Shane has stripped Austin of the Intercontinental Championship.
He informs Sting that he will be participating in a match at King Of The Ring to determine the new Champion.
His opponent will be the winner of tonight's main event between Chris Jericho and Owen Hart.
Sting talks about injuring Austin and also talks about himself like he has already won the Intercontinental Championship.

Rob Van Dam ran in to help Malenko fight them off.
Afterwards, Dyanmite Kid waits at ringside as his match is next.
A group of referees and officials come out to escort Malenko, RVD, and Kikuchi to the back.

During the main event, Sting ran in to attack Cactus Jack when he was in control of the match.
Chris Jericho ran out and attacked Sting.
The two of them fought to the back.
Later on, with Cactus Jack once again in control, Sid Justice ran in to help Rude.
Ric Flair ran out at this point and attacked both Rude and Justice.
Flair and Justice started to brawl on the outside of the ring.
As they were fighting, Rude managed to get the win.
Once Flair took care of Justice, he entered the ring and hit Rude with his title belt.
The show ends with Flair standing over Rude.

As Kenta Kobashi waits in the ring for his opponent, Shane comes out and sarcastically congratulates him on all of his recent wins. Shane then wishes him well against his opponent tonight, The Big Show.

Backstage, Ric Flair is shown searching for Rick Rude.
Flair runs into McMahon, who tells him Rude really isn't there tonight.
Flair is livid that Rude stole the belt from him.

With William Regal waiting in the ring for his opponent, Shane McMahon comes out and tells Regal since he knows about royalty, his opponent should be someone who claims to be royalty. Jerry "The King" Lawler.

Bobby Heenan and Harlem Heat talk about being passed over for a shot at the Tag Team titles. They talk about making a statement against one time champions, Hall & Triple H tonight.

During the main event, Sting comes out to ringside.
He stands in the aisle and begins arguing with Jericho, who is still in the ring.
With Jericho distracted, Orton easily hits the RKO to win the match.
Afterwards, Sting slowly backs up the aisle as Jericho stares at him from the ring.

Opening segment


An angry Ric Flair is in the ring and calls out Rick Rude.
Rude comes to the ring wearing the Heavyweight title and Flair tells him he doesn't want to wait for Sunday.
Flair then begins fighting with Rude.
Shane McMahon comes out with a group of referees to break them up.
Shane announces tonight's main event will be Flair, Owen Hart, & Rick Martel vs. Rick Rude & The Road Warriors.

Raw highlights air.

William Regal informs Dave Taylor due participating in the King Of The Ring, he's giving Taylor his spot against Arn Anderson tonight. He wishes Taylor well in bringing the European Title back home.

Shane McMahon comes out with Sting and announces due to Raw Commentator Jerry Lawler being in action last Monday, Smackdown Commentator Jesse Ventura will be in action tonight against Sting.
During the match, Jericho runs in and jumps Sting from behind, causing the DQ finish.
The brawl between them spills out into the aisle way and eventually right into the crowd.
Security guards jump in to seperate the two of them.

Before the main event, Rick Rude comes out wearing the Heavyweight title.
Before the match starts he hands it to Sid Justice to hold on to.
After the match is over, it looks like Rude is going to attack Flair, Owen & Martel enter the ring.
Hawk & Animal attack them and throw them out as Justice enters the ring and wraps the belt around Rude's waist.
Rick Rude puts one foot on Flair's chest and poses with the belt as the show goes off the air.

Notes on the Pay Per View



Jesse Ventura and Gorilla Monsoon provided the commentary for the odd numbered matches.
Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler provided the commentary for the even numbered matches.

Throughout the evening, Mean Gene Okerlund interviewed participants to get their thoughts on their matches.

After the first round of the tournament is concluded, Kevin Nash is shown arriving backstage and entering Shane McMahon's office.

During the Undertaker/Randy Orton match, Bobby Heenan distracted the referee.
During this time, The Rock ran out and hit The Undertaker with the People's Championship belt.
This move helped Orton win the match.

After the KOTR Semi Finals, Shane McMahon runs into Chris Jericho backstage.
Shane asks Jericho how he feels as his reign as King Of The Ring comes to an end.
Shane tells Jericho he feels he was a lackluster King. Jericho is obviously annoyed with Shane.

Before the Jericho/Sting match, Kevin Nash is shown sitting in Shane McMahon's private box.

After winning the Intercontiental Championship, Chris Jericho walks off to the side of the stage where a platform has been set up with the throne for the KOTR winner. Jericho sits on the throne as he celebrates his win.

During the KOTR Finals, Bobby Heenan again distracts the referee.
As The Rock was shown running in from the audience, The Undertaker was shown on his way out to the ring.
The Rock attempted to hit Triple H with his title belt, but Triple H managed to get to The Rock first. Pushing him off the ring apron, The Rock crashed against the ring barrier.
As The Rock is shown laying on the outside, The Undertaker stares at him, then turns his attention to Bobby Heenan.
Undertaker begins to approach Heenan, and Heenan starts pleading with the Undertaker not to do anything.
Undertaker grabs Heenan by the neck and sets up Heenan for the Tombstone Piledriver.
Harlem Heat run out and attack Undertaker and he drops Heenan before he can execute the move.
As this is going on, the referee is trying to restore order. A group of referees run out and try to help him by escorting Heenan, Harlem Heat, and Undertaker to the back.
The Rock gets to his feet and notices the referees aren't paying any attention to him, he enters the ring and this time manages to hit Triple H with his title belt.
He then runs out and Orton manages to hit a stunned Triple H with the RKO.
At this point, the referee gets back in the ring in time to make the count as Orton wins.

During the KOTR Coronation, Bobby Heenan comes out with the Heenan Family to congratulate Randy Orton.
Orton sits on the throne as Heenan hands him a Scepter and then places the crown on Orton's head.
Mean Gene Okerlund is there to interview Orton, he announces from this day forward all the peasants out there are to refer to him as King Orton.  

Before the main event, Rick Rude comes out still wearing the Heavyweight title.
Once the match is over, Flair takes the title belt back and puts it around his waist.
As Flair struts in the ring, he doesn't notice King Orton run in. Orton nails Flair in the head with his scepter.
He then lays out Flair with the RKO as the ppv goes off the air.
