For you - the home audience - tonight, we will be showcasing the three divisions of the HWL as we will be holding first round matches for the Heavyweight, Intercontinental, and Tag Team Titles! So, without further ado, let's get started with the action!"

[Albright handed the microphone back to ring announcer, Shannon Myers, before leaving the ring and taking a seat at the broadcast table...]

Intercontinental Title Tournament [Semi-Final]
"The Masterpiece" Chris Masters vs. "Y2J" Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho and Chris Masters had the unnerving task of making a good first impression with the new Nashville crowd. They fought neck and neck for the first opening moments of the match, but Chris Masters was able to take the advantage with his size and strength over "Y2J". However, Jericho showed a lit of grit, refusing to tap out even after enduring the "Masterlock" for 42 seconds! In the end, Jericho was able to take back the advantage after countless threats of disqualification by referee Rudy Charles on Masters' behalf. Jericho was able to hit the "Codebreaker" for the victory.

Chris Jericho pinned Chris Masters with the Codebreaker in 17:39.
Rating: ****

Masters rolled out of the ring and onto the mats around the outside of the ring as Jericho slowly got to his feet and had his hand raised in the air. The crowd cheered him on -- as did Commission Albright - who stood up from the broadcast table and applauded the first match of the evening. Jericho left the ring and made his way to the back. Outside the ring, Rudy Charles attended to Chris Masters.

Backstage:
Carlito tells Mia Martinez that he is going to be the first HWL Heavyweight Champion because gold is cool. He says that the HWL needs someone like Carlito to be on top of the company, because he is the only one to be a true champion in the ring. This brings out The Big Show, who says that Carlito is getting his hopes up too high too soon. Big Show says it is going to be interesting to see how "cool" Carlito is later tonight.

Tag Team Title Tournament [Quarter Final]:
Brian Kendrick/Paul London (w/Ashley) vs. The World's Greatest Tag Team

The World's Greatest Tag Team literally stole a first-round victory from Brain Kendrick and Paul London... and on the very first show in the history of the HWL! Referee Danny Davis may have had some special interest in this match as he blatantly ignored Paul London's raised hand while in the Haas of Pain, giving the WGTT a submission victory...

The World's Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas/Shelton Benjamin) defeated Brian Kendrick/Paul London when C. Haas defeated P. London when P. London passed out in the Haas of Pain in 5:53.
Rating: ***

Referee Danny Davis was quick to leave the ring after the final bell. The crowd booed him unmercifully as he ran back up the aisle. Haas and Benjamin left the ring, celebrating their advancement to the next round of the tag team tournament as Kendrick and London - along with Ashley - stood in the ring, shocked at what has just happened. From the broadcast table, Commissioner Albright said that he would have something to say about what he just, next week, but that he had to go take care of some business as soon as possible. Albright then left the broadcast table and headed backstage.

Heavyweight Title Tournament [Quarter Final]:
Carlito vs. The Big Show.

Carlito took on The Big show in the first match of the Heavyweight Title tournament... But, it soon turned out to be a war of attrition to see who could last the longest. Referee Tim White was hesitant to let the match continue past the 25-minute time limit, but he made the right choice and allowing it. The smaller, lighter Carlito - much to the fans' angst - rallied late in the match to overcome the arsenal of power moves by The Big Show. Towards the end, Show was showing signs of major fatigue and Carlito was able to outlast the "tallest professional athlete in the world" to pick up the victory.

Heavyweight Title Tournament [Quarter Final]:
Carlito pinned The Big Show after a stomp in 42:53.
Rating: ** ¾

Backstage:
Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin sit in their locker room, gloating about the win over Kendrick and London, when Danny Davis enters...

Davis: "Hey guys... wasn't that fantastic?"

Haas: "It was great! Did you two see the looks on their faces when the bell rang? Oh, it was priceless!"

(Benjamin punches Haas in the arm and gives him a stern look, before turning his attention to Davis.)

Benjamin: "Danny, dog... you need to get the hell out of here, man! I'm sure you don't know this, but Albright's lookin' for you. I don't want to get into any shit because of this anymore then either of you two do."

Davis: "Alright, alright. I just wanted to come by and join in the celebration. That's all."

Benjamin: "Hell, man! Ain't nothing to celebrate about right now. Haas and I ain't Tag Team Champions, yet."

(Davis nodded. He shrugged his shoulders and walked out of the dressing room.)

Backstage:
D.H. Smith tells Mia Martinez that it would be a great honor to be the first-ever Intercontinental Champion in the HWL. He says that there would be nothing greater then to have the finals come down to two men from Canada to determine a winner. Smith says that watching him win a title would've been a great memory for this father, had he been able to see it.

Laughter stopped Smith's comments as Mr. Kennedy approaches. He tells Smith that outside of being Davey Boy Smith's son, he has yet to accomplish anything in the wrestling business. Kennedy says that Smith can hope and dream of the IC Title match being an all-Canuck show, but it's not going to happen. Kennedy says that Smith doesn't have what it takes to be a champion, and that he was going to prove it later tonight.

Tag Team Title Tournament [Quarter Final]:
Knock Out Tap Out Connection vs. The Briscoe Brothers

In tonight's second tag team tournament match, the Nashville crowd was shocked to see independent main-stays, the Briscoe Brothers make their debut. However, Elijah Burke and Sylvester Terkay had other plans in mind after the bell rang. This was a hard-fought match; a match that Burke and Terkay believed they had won. However, the persistent Briscoes just wouldn't stay down! This frustrated Elijah Burke to the point of attacking referee Mike Sparks and throwing him outside of the ring, costing himself and Terkay a chance at the Tag Team Titles.

The Briscoe Brothers (Jay Briscoe/Mark Briscoe) defeated Knock Out Tap Out Connection (Elijah Burke/Sylvester Terkay) when M. Briscoe defeated E. Burke by disqualification in 17:01.
Rating: ** 3/4

After the match, Burke and Terkay left the ring in a huff, paying no attention to the crowd as they were booed on their way to the backstage area. Inside the ring, The Briscoes looked around, stunned, but soon began celebrating their movement into the next round of the Tag Team Tournament.

Backstage:
Carlito is asked what's going through his mind after taking on the Big Show in the almost-45 minute match earlier in the program. He says that he went out there and proved that there is not a "damn" person that is going to stop him from becoming the HWL Heavyweight Champion. Carlito says that the HWL with him as champion would be nothing by cool.

Intercontinental Title Tournament [Semi-Final]:
D.H. Smith vs. Mr. Kennedy

D.H. Smith wanted to make a statement - that his father's love for the wrestling business would transfer to his son. Now, after one match , it's hard to make that comparison... but, his first outing for the HWL was not one of the best. Mr. Kennedy was able to keep his word as he made good on what he said backstage earlier in the show. However, it wasn't all good for Kennedy as during the match, a large gash was opened on his forehead. Through the blood, though, Kennedy was able to make Smith submit.

Mr. Kennedy made D.H. Smith submit to an abdominal stretch in 15:27.
Rating: ** ½

After the match, Kennedy fell to the canvas with blood gushing from his foreheard. D.H. Smith slowly got his feet, holding his side, while spotted with Kennedy's blood. Smith left the ring and hobbled backstage as the medical team rushed down to assist with Kennedy.

Backstage:
Commissioner Albright says that he feels tonight has been very successful, and that the crowd has seemed to be into just about every match that's been put before them. He says he likes that, because it's a sign that things are moving in the right direction. Albright says that he will have a statement to make at the beginning of Anarchy next week, concerning the tag team match earlier in the program; and what punishment - if any - he and the HWL Committee can decide on.

Heavyweight Title Tournament [Quarter-Final]:
Samoa Joe vs. John Cena

Samoa Joe and John Cena finished off the first-ever Anarchy, as they tried to figure out who would take the fourth and final spot in the next round of the Heavyweight Title Tournament, next week. It was an even match for the first few minutes but, out of nowhere, Cena hit the F-U for a two. From that moment on, the match was securely in Cena's favor. He hit a second F-U to pick up the victory.

John Cena pinned Samoa Joe with the F-U in 10:27.
Rating: *** 1/4

After the match, Cena looked down at Samoa Joe and waved his hand in front of his face screaming "You can't see me!" must to the hatred of the crowd. Cena left the ring and made his way to the back. Anarchy went off the air showing Samoa Joe slowly getting back to his feet.
