The Kings Court: special guest Kurt Angle

Kurt Angles big match with Jerry Lynn for the world heavyweight title draws ever
closer, with just thirteen days seperating him from perhaps his destiny. On
the Kings Court today, he announced his disgust that someone like Jerry Lynn
could claim to be an American the way he presents himself and promised to do the
good old U. S. of A. a favour by ending his title reign early. Angle further
noted that he was disgusted Lynn was ever even in a position to be world
champion and if it wasn't for all the foreigners on the DWF title committee,
he would have ended Jerry Lynns time at the top years ago.

All this drivel ended up bringing Lynn outside himself to confront Angle who
didn't go as far as to back right down but looked clearly very uncomfortable
at Lynns presence. The world champion started off by noting that Angle has
never had a noteworthy title reign in his nearly seven years in the DWF (a
brief hiccup with the intercontinental title being it) and told Angle it must
be eating him up inside, before Lynn questioned whether Angle was being entirely
honest about his claims that he would have ended Lynns reign years ago. Angle
claimed he was honest as the day is long, to which Lynn noted a day is only 24
hours and Angle had his opportunity two years ago when he won the Royal Rumble
and could have faced Lynn for the title at Wrestlefest then, instead electing
to go for the Intercontinental title instead.

Angle didn't really have an answer for that (although the reasoning at the time
had been admitedly legitimate) and after stammering and struggling for an
answer, Lynn finished it off for him and said where he intends the DWF to head
does not involve Kurt Angle at the top and guarenteed Angles career would
permanently take a step back at Ground Zero where he would find out for good
what the citizens of America REALLY thought of Kurt Angle.

Angle was all very peturbed by this, but had even more cause for concern when
he made his way backstage and was stopped by Rhyno. Rhyno, tongue in cheek,
congratulated Angle on getting this title shot and then asked Angle to give him
one good reason why he shouldn't interfere in Angles title match and cost him
the gold like Angle had done at Badd Blood when Rhyno was the challenger. Angle
at first threatened to break Rhynos ankle if he did, but Rhyno suggested that
this wasn't going to convince him not to interfere. Angle got rather desperate,
sensing Rhyno was probably serious and promised to give Rhyno a title shot if
he won. Rhyno pointed out that this went without saying but added he could
probably get a title shot from Jerry if he wanted to. Angle was getting really
worried now and promised to make Rhyno an offer in due course. Still, he may
have just learned an important lesson in treating others as he would wish them
to treat him, else things like this tend to happen.

The Syndicate & Bobby Eaton vs Pretty Perfect & Larry Zbyszko

It was a big six man tag that opened things up tonight with the reigning tag
team champions in action alongside Larry Zbyszko against the team of Bobby
Eaton and one of the top contenders for the tag belts, The Syndicate. It was
quite the hot opener with all six man taking turns in the early stages to go
through some of their signature moves before it was Bobby Eaton who became
trapped in the heels half of the ring where he was run ragged for a fair bit
until, after an initial comeback had fallen down, he caught Zbyszko with a
swinging neckbreaker that turned the tide.

The tag was made to Ken Shamrock who came in and quickly cleaned house, with
Lance Storm also keeping the opposition at bay. After they double teamed Larry
out, it was tag team on tag team as the Syndicate and Pretty Perfect mixed it
up. Pretty Perfect had control at first until Lance Storm caught Hennig with
a springboard dropkick. Owen tried to take care of Lance but Shamrock came in
and hit a huge belly to belly on Hart before slapping on the ankle lock. With
Lance now holding back Hennig and Zbyszko and Eaton still brawling on the
outside, Owen had no choice but to tap and hand victory to the Syndicate and
Bobby Eaton.

The Syndicate (Lance Storm and Ken Shamrock) and Bobby Eaton defeated
Pretty Perfect (Owen Hart and Curt Hennig) and Larry Zbyszko when Shamrock made
O. Hart submit to the Ankle Lock Submission in 0:10:09.

Dissension in the Rock'n'Roll Express?

The Rock'n'Roll Express were seen backstage today arguing again. Ricky Morton
claimed they should blindside Doug Furnas and Phil LaFon for causing this huge
rift during last weeks match but Robert Gibson said they should just leave it
and challenge them to a rematch so they can get another win and move back into
number one contendership. Ricky then questioned if they were in the right frame
of mind for a title shot right now, and now it was Robert losing his temper over
nothing before he stormed off. Things look very bleak for the former champs but
they will have the opportunity that Robert desired at Ground Zero as they will
indeed be taking on Doug Furnas and Phil LaFon.

Rhyno vs Eddie Guerrero

With various things going on in his mind, Rhyno had to prepare for a big match
against former Intercontinental champion Eddie Guerrero. Rhyno may have been
expected to plough through Eddie by some, but those are naive people as Eddie
as wily as he is lured Rhyno into his graps several times early on, outpacing
him and, dare I say, outsmarting him by getting Rhyno to charge in at times
when he would have been better off standing still. After hitting the
turnbuckles once too often, Eddie took control but it wasn't long before the
Manbeast was fighting back.

Using his power advantage, Rhyno began to toss Eddie around with ease and a
big victory seemed to be on the cards until Chavo Classic wandered down and
began lying to the ref about Rhyno using the tights and pulling the hair. With
everyone distracted, the other Guerreros appeared from nowhere, perhaps the
crowd, and Mando stole the ringbell which Hector used to nail Rhyno in the back
of the head to cheat him out of a win. All that was left was for Eddie to go
up top and hit the Frog Splash for a cheap victory. All four Los Guerreros left
together celebrating the win, with Chavo being heard to add "I ended Rob Van
Dams career, I ended Rob Van Dams career."

Eddie Guerrero pinned Rhyno with the Frog Splash in 0:14:04.

Edge vs Super Calo

Edge was in action today against Super Calo and whilst Calo showed us some nice
moves before the match, it was all Edge when the bell rang. Edge seemed pretty
motivated tonight and didn't give his opponent a chance as he blasted past him
and finished him off with the Downward Spiral to score a routine victory.

Edge pinned Super Calo with the Downward Spiral in 0:04:10.

Matt Hardy confirms Brian Pillman's opponents at the next two pay-per-views

Backstage, Brian Pillman was in the office of Matt Hardy, with the commissioner
being flanked VERY closely by his bodyguards (wise move with this maniac on the
loose). Following on from last weeks conversation, Hardy confirmed to Pillman
that their deal was set and both parties would stand by their side of the deal.
So Brian Pillman will be taking on Jody Fleisch at Ground Zero in an obvious
attempt to soften Fleisch up before Hardy takes him on next month at
Wrestlefest. In return, Brian will get the match that HE wants at Wrestlefest,
that being a no holds barred encounter with Sean O'Haire, although he pointed
out to Pillman that murders WERE barred - Pillman frowned, he ACTUALLY FROWNED
at this. Dare I say, he probably had some sick act of homicide in mind knowing
this psycho. Meanwhile, as the other half of his side of the deal, Matt was
going to get O'Haire just a little bit worn down before Wrestlefest by putting
him in a match, with Hardy adding that "from what I've already seen, I've got
just the team for the job". I dread to think.

Alex Wright (c) vs Dynamite Kid (Intercontinental championship match)

Opponents in the big six man tag at Ground Zero squared off today as Dynamite
Kid, who has been on a great run in recent weeks, faced Alex Wright for the
Intercontinental championship. Dynamite started off the stronger of the two
and had Wright on the back foot before the champ was forced to bail and regroup
with Ulf on the outside. Back inside, Dynamite continued to edge it though
Wright was good enough to at least hold his own but it needed Ulf becoming a
permanent distraction to really swing things for the reigning champion.

It didn't stay that way forever with Dynamite fighting back, blocking an
attempt at the Schadenfreude with some back elbows and mounting an offence which
had Wright reeling. Herman tried to interject himself but was met with a big
lariat that knocked Ulf onto the apron. The ref quickly tended to him, all the
while Don Muraco ran out and jumped onto the apron, grabbed Dynamite by the
head and dropped him neck first across the top rope. Dynamite staggered back
into Wrights clutches and the Schadenfreude was hit for a very fortunate win.
Wright, Herman and Muraco all made a hasty exit before the other men involved
in the six man tag could show their faces but no doubt this will only serve
to fuel the fire now.

Alex Wright pinned Dynamite Kid with the Schadenfreude in 0:15:13.

Cruiserweight battle royal (#1 contendership)

One of the biggest matches of the night was a six man battle royal to determine
the number one contender for the cruiserweight title at Ground Zero. Jeff
Hardy has been avoiding going at it one on one with anyone as long as he could
but was standing backstage alone, watching fleefully the action that was going
on with Dynamite Kid. Devon Storm approached, causing Jeff to back off quickly.
Devon had confronted Hardy a few weeks back and Devon said he was sick of being
a forgotten man in the DWF and being that he was sick of Jeff Hardy ducking
challengers instead of facing them head on like a man, he would use Jeff and
his title to spearhead himself back into the limelight.

Devon wasn't the only man with ideas of grandeur as Juventud Guerrera was the
first man announced in the battle royal. Sadly we had to listen to him run down
the competition involved, promising that this would be where he proved himself
to be the most superior cruiserweight in the world, in stark contrast to his
opponent "Flid Trash, HoKey, Divvy Bore-em, Charva Guerrero and Rectal
wants-to-be-Guerrera". The next two out were the good friends and occassional
tag partners Low Ki and Kid Kash who spent the rest of the introductions
beating on Juventud before the match begun.

Once everyone was inside, it all got underway and this one had the added rule
in that a competitor could be eliminated by pinfall, submission or by being
thrown over the top. There was controversy in the first minute when Low Ki
quickly locked a dragon clutch on Chavo which was quickly checked out by one
referee. The other referee was busy looking to see if Devon would submit to
a Gory Special from Hector. Whilst both refs were checking this out, Kid Kash
sent Juventud out with a backdrop, only for Juventud to slide back in without
anyone seeing his elimination.

With both submission holds quickly broken, all six man began going at it again.
Everyone paired off for the next couple of minutes until a stiff roundhouse
kick from Low Ki rocked Hector Guerrero to the extent where he almost toppled
over the top. He managed to pull himself back in only for Low Ki to tip him
right back out again for the first elimination. Low Ki and Kid Kash quickly
teamed off from here and proved a dominant force in the ring. Juventud got out
of dodge when he was cornered, sliding out and taking a breather and it was
Chavo who took the brunt of the offence with Low Ki hitting another hard
roundhouse kick that staggered Chavo right into the arms of Kid Kash who hit
the Money Maker and got the pin.

Right at the same time, Low Ki threw yet another roundhouse kick at Juventud
Guerrera who ducked it. Low Ki caught his leg on the ropes and was
unceremoniously tossed out by Guerrera. With three men left, Devon Storm picked
on whomever was closest, in this case Kid Kash. Juventud headed up top with
the intent on mugging them from behind. Devon was wise to it and crotched Juvi
on the ropes before going back to Kash and hitting the Thunderclap Brainbuster.
Juventud got back up and hit the 450 splash on Kash to score another elimination
and bring it down to two.

The two of them battled it out for the next couple of minutes with Devon taking
control for the better part of it. Juventud came back with a low blow but
Devon reversed an Irish whip that sent Juventud into the corner hard. Devon
quickly locked in a waistlock and hit a German suplex in the centre of the ring
that brough both referees in to each count a pair of shoulders down. Devon
initially thought he'd won but he'd been counted down. Both referees were
briefly in dispute over the outcome but after consulting, they had no
alternative but to declare the match a draw. Neither men seemed particularly
happy, but one man who has got to be steamed is Jeff Hardy as it looks like
he'll have to face both men now at Ground Zero.

6-Man Battle Royal:
Devon Storm and Juventud Guerrera tied a 6-man Battle Royal:
x Low Ki threw out H. Guerrero in 0:03:14
x Kid Kash defeated Chavo Jr. after the Money Maker in 0:07:41
x J. Guerrera threw out Low Ki in 0:07:45
x J. Guerrera defeated Kid Kash after the 450 splash in 0:08:37
x D. Storm and J. Guerrera pinned each other after a German suplex in
0:10:45

The Paul Roma "pussy challenge"

Sadly Paul Roma is still alive, as is his Mean Street Posse, and they were back
out today with another of their "pussy challenges". Roma started by saying they
were so mad at the lack of respect they've been getting, the Posse have dyed
their sweatervests EXTRA BLACK this week. Roma wanted any tag team to prove
they had the guts, which he doubted, to take on the Posse tonight. The
challenge was answered this week by York and Matthews of the Young Lions. After
double dropkicking Roma out, the announcers had all of one minute to talk about
them investigating John Cena and trying to dig up dirt on him before York put
Gas away with a moonsault. And with that, they were back on the case again.
They signalled they wanted to interview their three fallen foes to see if they
could pick up any clues, but sadly they were all unconscious.

The Young Lions (Christian York and Joey Matthews) defeated
The Mean Street Posse (Pete Gas and Rodney) when York pinned Gas with the
Moonsault in 0:01:11.

Rockabilly interview

Hunter Hearst-Helmsley and Rockabilly were lurking backstage and Sean Mooney
took the chance to interview them for something called 'DWF doubting El Dandy"
whatever that is. Helmsley said that when you have as much class as them, you
don't need to wrestle tonight because they've proved enough. Rockabilly took a
different approach and said that Brad Armstrong is DUCKING him. Hogwash, is all
one can say to that, but no, Rockabilly went on, saying Brad only got himself
in this six man tag because he knows he couldn't handle Rockabilly on a PPV and
he challenge Brad to do double duty at Ground Zero and take him on. OK, we know
what the idea is there, take on Brad after he's had a long match but if "The
Rock" is his usual self, he'll be out all guns blazing regardless of the shape
he's in, in which case Rockabilly may have finally bitten off more than he can
chew.

Christian vs Chavo Classic

After the earlier atrocities in Eddie Guerreros match, two extra officials
were at ringside for Chavo Classics match with Christian. Chavo, as we know,
has been bragging about ending RVDs career and with Christian being a good pal
of RVD, revenge was for the taking here. Unsurprisingly, Christian was the more
agressive at the start and having rested enough to recover from the beating he
took at the hands of Brian Pillman, he was looking up for this encounter.

Christian was the man winning the fight, with Chavo only showing signs of what
he can do, until Eddie, Hector and Mando began walking back out again. The
outside officials quickly stopped them in their tracks until Edge sprinted up
the aisle and got past the brothers. The brothers forced their way past the
officials and stopped Edge getting into the ring - clearly Edge is also enraged
at Chavos boasting that he ended RVDs career. The brothers began beating down
Edge which forced Christian to go over and try and exit the ring to help out.
Chavo quickly pulled him back and hit a Chavobomb for the win.

From there, Los Guerreros tossed Edge inside and began having their way with
the two Canadians until Chris Jericho, also out for revenge with the Guerreros,
particularly Eddie, for much different reasons, ran in to make the save and
with Edge and Christian fighting back too, the Guerreros decided to quit while
they were ahead and made their leave, taunting the Canadian trio now in the
ring as they left.

Chavo Classic pinned Christian with the Chavobomb in 0:09:28.

Chavo celebrates the win

After the match we had just seen, Michael Cole tried to interview Los Guerreros
who were congratulating Chavo Classic on a big win. Chavo was convinced that
having ended Rob Van Dams career, this makes him the most hardcore man in
wrestling because nobody in ECW was ever able to put him on the shelf for good
but he has. Cole noted one man who we know disagrees with this, based on last
week, is Pitbull #2 and he has made a challenge for Ground Zero. Before Cole
could finish, Chavo gleefully accepted, vowing to prove Pitbull was nothing
more than a softcore punk, adding the only thing hardcore about the Pitbull
was the videos he watches on a Friday night. Cole then informed him that Chavo
had just accepted the challenge for a table match, which Chavo seemed a little
less enthused about. But apparently the match is official and will go ahead
in two weeks time.

Raven vs Don Muraco

The nights main event saw a rematch from Revenge is Sweet and the long running
fued between Don Muraco and Raven as another two men from opposing sides in the
six man tag at Ground Zero squared off. The early stages were tight with
Raven looking fresh enough to hold his own well and Muraco using his strength
to stop Raven mounting any offence too serious. As is almost customary when
these two square off, the action quickly spilled to the outside and the two
spent time brawling around ringside whilst the referee used some very generous
liberties with the count. Eventually Jeff Hardy provided a nuisance distraction
allowing Muraco to grip a bearhug around Raven and absolutely slam him into the
ringpost, leaving him in some considerable pain on the floor.

From there, it was almost reminiscent of their match from Revenge is Sweet
last year when Raven scored his famous pinfall victory over Muraco with Muraco
in great shape pummelling Raven who was clearly hurt and tiring quickly. But
Raven has always been noted for having more fight than anyone and refused to lie
back despite the odds. Sure enough, he fought back with all his reserves and
even had Muraco wobbling into the corner. Who knows what might have transpired
from there, all that matters is that before Raven could really take over, Alex
Wright and Ulf Herman spilled in for just about a blatant DQ as you could have
hoped for.

Certainly such an attack was planned for this match which now seemed like
nothing more than a chance to set Raven up and ambush him. The three of them
stomped the fallen Raven with Jeff Hardy getting his kicks in as well. Unlike
what happened earlier in the IC title match, the beating wouldn't last as
Dynamite Kid and Brad Armstrong ran out and first double clotheslined Muraco
through the ropes. From there Dynamite took on Herman and Brad made a dive for
Alex Wright who beat a hasty exit, before The Rock took care of Jeff Hardy and
helped Dynamite finish off Herman, sending him packing out of the ring too.
Muraco at this point had just climbed back in and seemed ready to take on both
Dynamite and Armstrong who equally were more than happy to go at it and a big
showdown looked imminent until the rest of Muracos team persuaded him to get
out of dodge before somebody got badly hurt. Muracos team left angrily and the
show closed with the exhausted Raven being lifted up by his team mates as he
was declared the winner by disqualification - even DQ losses are extremely rare
for Muraco so Raven will happily take a huge victory on this occassion despite
the circumstances.

Raven defeated Don Muraco by disqualification in 0:14:41.

When you said EXTRA BLACK I was expecting Bad News Brown and I am horribly disappointed.

Yeah, I just pulled a random quote out of the show in order to deceive people into reading without it being entirely a case of false advertising.

Matt's Random Thoughts.

Angle's not going to win the belt. Just a feeling I have. I could be wrong, but his past, most likely screwing Rhyno over is going to haunt him.

Damn, that was a fine little six man tag team match. The victors were a bit of a surprise, but should nicely put the Syndicate in line for a tag team title shot down the road.

Sooner or later, I think the Rock N Roll Express will be derailed.

Eddie beats Rhyno thanks to those damn Guerreros.

SUPER CALO~! I marked out for the luchadore with the sunglasses glued to his mask. Sadly, he does the old jobski to Edge.

Pillman wants O'Haire at Wrestlefest. Hardy gives it to him, everything legal except murder. Pillman doesn't seem down with that fact. Hardy has a team to soften up O'Haire. Oh no...

Nice match between Wright and Dynamite Kid, serves its purpose in setting up the six man at the PAy Per View, which should also be a good match.

Double pin? Hardy's not happy with this and why should he, as he's got twice the challengers to deal with at Ground Zero.

"Sadly Paul Roma is still alive". That made me laugh more than it should. Extra Black, damn, the Posse are evil today. The Young Guns beat them quickly, but I wonder how their quest to find the dirt on John Cena is panning out.

The power of Rockabilly! Brad er The Rock might be pulling double duty, but I suspect he could lay the smackdown on this clown, if you smell what I'm cooking.

Chavo Classic wins, thanks to those damn Guerreros, the sequel. Edge and Christian get battered, until Jericho makes the save. The forces of Canada chase off the Guerreros.

Chavo Classic against Pitbull #2 in a tables match? Nighty, night, Chavo.

Disqualification win for Raven, but hey a win's a win. Meanwhile, tension continues to build for the six man.

Another excellent show!
